Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people[a] in whole or in part. In 1948, the United Nations Genocide Convention defined genocide as any of five "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". These five acts were: killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. Victims are targeted because of their real or perceived membership of a group, not randomly.[1][2] Wikipedia

Reservist Major General Giora Eiland told Israeli media on Monday that Israel’s actions in “creating a severe humanitarian crisis is a necessary means to achieve the goal. Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist.”

Oxfam says starvation is being used as a weapon of war against civilians in Gaza, adding just two percent of usual food has been delivered to the enclave since Israel’s “total siege”.

Gaza death toll rises to 6,500, including Al Jazeera correspondent’s family

Al Jazeera Arabic’s Wael Dahdouh’s wife, son and daughter among family members killed after home hit.

@WomanOfTheWoods

Or was the invasion into another country and the horrific mutilation, murder, torture, rape, setting on fire and kidnapping of over a thousand civilians including babies while celebrating it for the whole world to see just a act of legitimate protest?

It was horrific and horrible and all the bad words in the dictionary and i have the moral strength to condemn it.

The question is Do you have the moral rectitude to condemn Israel for starving gazans and killing children in an equally horrible way? Or do we now have to race to the bottom and decide which is a more horrific way for a child to die?

And GOSH comparison sounded ridiculous because it was. Not because UK government doesnt store ammunition under hospitals but because no government that is not morally bankrupt bombs hospitals to kill terrorists and describes children as collateral damage.

I've read/skimmed/read.

This is my take. Oct 7 was just another audacious attack on Israel. Hamas were expecting the usual resistance, but, due to recent political upheavals in Israel, didn't encounter it.

Thus they ran amok. Took hostages, did 'the other one-to-one stuff'. 😞 I imagine even Hamas high command went 'Oh shit!'

This gave Israel an unexpected opening. In the undeniably knowledge that Hamas DO have military commands under hospitals and schools; and their leadership is based in Qatar.

Israel know no one wants Palestinian refugees. That the Palestinians have been offered endless peace deals that their outside proxies have told, or persuaded them to reject.

Hamas brought this upon Gaza.

Fordian · 28/10/2023 21:25

Note to the unaware: Israelis are 'brown', too.

Fordian · 28/10/2023 21:33

The greatest victory for Gaza is the neutralisation of Hamas. Gazans' biggest enemy are their Qatar based Hamas leaders.

Gazans could be living prosperous, peaceful lives alongside Israel (providing the prosperity 😉) by now, but they are kept in a state of subjugated victimhood by others, using them as proxies in others' wars. This one was financed by Iranians, sleeping peacefully in their beds, tonight.

Hamas won an election in 2006. And have not allowed another since. In the west, we'd call that a dictatorship.

WomanOfTheWoods · 28/10/2023 21:37

You could see the Gazan government had their social media propaganda arranged in advance of October the 7th. It was all over TikTok within hours. Didn’t see much from Israel for a few days.

Note that the Israelis don’t seem to plaster pictures of their dead over all SM, they obviously believe their dead deserve dignity. The ghouls wanting pics of the victims of the atrocities to ‘prove’ it happened are disgusting. Would they want pictures of their raped, burnt, mutilated, headless relatives or friends beamed around the world for other sick bastards to crow over?

How come Palestinians in the West Bank, where there is no Hamas, don't live peacefully? They can wake up one day to have their towns destroyed and settlers from any random country in the world waving guns and taking their homes because they can, and be killed, or imprisoned in an apartheid legal system? 2023 was one of the worst years for this, if you look at news beyond the usual superficial headlines.

Please.

Fordian · 28/10/2023 21:42

@DinkyDaisy - Hezbollah? Who are also shelling Israel? Did you know that?

Isn’t hezbollah in Líbano rather than West Bank ?

Chaiandkaafee · 28/10/2023 21:47

@WomanOfTheWoods you clearly haven’t seen the YouTube ads then plastered all over social media of the Israeli hostages? Shame.

They are clutching at straws to defend genocide.

Chaiandkaafee · 28/10/2023 21:48

Oh please @Fordian where do I even start with lies and misinformation in your post. This is exhausting. Just give it up 🙈

The casual lies and twisted (il)logic would be funny if it wasn't in effect endorsing the brutal murder and maiming of thousands of children as we type.

Chaiandkaafee · 28/10/2023 21:54

@bness i know. I can’t believe the casual lies and misinformation just bring thrown out. Unfortunately for posters like @Fordian we live in an age where several different media outlets are showing the various sides to this conflict. Back in the 90’s and before that we’d be limited to two news channels pushing our governments version of events. Social media has at least been beneficial in this regard.

Ohlalalalala · 28/10/2023 21:58

Wow, the amount of misinformation and fake news emanating from some posters trying to justify the genocide! Please stop it. You know that you are not even convinced yourselves with what you're trying to convince others. The time of the monopoly of the mass media is over. The peoples of the world can see by themselves what's truly happening.

"If the international media is objective, it serves Hamas" Brazen!

It is well documented that Hezbollah have been firing anti tank middles and rockets into northern Israel from Lebanon.

orangegato · 25/10/2023 20:25

Maybe release the hostages? Why would Israel give up without getting what they came for. Why would they leave now?

Hamas knew what would happen when they took hostages.

They offered to release hostages in exchange for palestinian ones

But the question. Wasn’t about Lebanon. It was about why are people being killed in West Bank if there is no Hamas there. Totally different places

Thank you for the links, really appreciate it. It's always good to see other points of views and learn more about this subject but I think you are reading my comments with prejudice, you think I said laziness when I never saud that. What I said is gazans they deserve better government, there is huge unemployment and hamas instead of using foreign aid to create employment they use that aid in buying arms. I never said were lazy, lots of palestinian in uk who study/work.. what I said their government don't care about them.

You're welcome. I am usually really good at reading tones but if you say it wasn't your intention I accept that I might have been mistaken.

Here's two links related to what you were talking about earlier.

@WomanOfTheWoods you clearly haven’t seen the YouTube ads then plastered all over social media of the Israeli hostages? Shame.

I was referring to calls for pics of the DEAD to prove beheadings, limbs cuts off, eyes gouged out, breasts cut off, babies heads smashed in, children tied together and set on fire etc.

The Israelis had to give a journalist viewing to prove this after they were accused of lying. They could have released these pictures and videos on SM but they didn't.

Why do you think that was?

We saw the Palestinian civilians celebrating these acts of savagery in the streets though, on their knees shouting Allahu Akbar which means Allah is the greatest.

A point of clarification for @WomanOfTheWoods the majority on this thread are advocating against any violence. Wanting it to stop! I don’t recall reading of ANYONE on mumsnet celebrating after the attack on October 7th. I am not trying to excuse any violent behaviour but am calling out the violent behaviour. If you can’t see that and want to post on this thread to argue with me then the only conclusion I can draw is that you are in support of violence towards Palestinians. Your posts certainly read in that way. Which is frankly, appalling.

It was the Gazan government who butchered entire families from what had been reported. I haven’t seen any reports of the IDF cutting off anyone’s head with a garden hoe and it was definitely be all over SM if there was.

What the hell are you on about - MY quench for blood? I certainly don’t condone the Gazan government blocking the roads to prevent their citizens from evacuating legitimate target sites after being warned to by the Israelis if that’s what you mean but it should be remembered that the majority of Gazans support their government which is the reason their children are dying.

Terrorist supporters still denying the atrocities inflicted on Israelis because they haven’t seen the pictures or the CCTV? You have the audacity to ask if I’ve lost my mind?

Chaiandkaafee · 28/10/2023 22:59

@WomanOfTheWoods Oh dear me!! 🙈

Stomacharmeleon · 28/10/2023 23:02

@Chaiandkaafee I imagine the wait was because there was a high level of victims that had to be identified. A lot where not easily identified for reasons that Don't need much imagination.

Also the footage they used was mostly from body worn cameras by the terrorists: They would have to draw information from it and try and ascertain where people had gone. I can't believe the Israelis are being castigated for wheeling what's left of there dead out quick enough! They had to tell their families whilst whole families are missing or part removed. It's like their horror is not enough for you.

We should be calling out behaviour both sides. Don't be selective.
