Conflict in the Middle East

For people who say I stand with Israel

What does that mean to you? Especially for Jewish people who are happy to answer.

I know what Free Palestine means - it has always meant freedom for Palestinians, peace, basic human rights such as water, the right to life essentially.

I Stand with Israel - what exactly does this mean?

I am genuinely not being 'goady" to use a MN word but I want to learn & understand. I know many will say not to have Israelis attacked at a festival or for the hostages to be released but what is the long term goal for those that support what the Israeli government is doing. What do you want for Palestinians?

'I know what Free Palestine means - it has always meant freedom for Palestinians, peace, basic human rights such as water, the right to life essentially.'

That most certainly is not what everyone using the phrase means. Don't you know that?

I'm not Jewish but I stand with Israel because I believe the Jews have a right to a nation and to defend their nation against terrorism

But it's not their nation is it 🙄

DragonFly98 · 22/10/2023 15:38

That's not what free Palestine means , stop with the faux naivety.

Of course it is.

Namechangeagain2023 · 22/10/2023 15:39

I stand with Israel means to me that I will always support the existence of Israel as a democratic Jewish state. It also means I completely support the principle of them doing what they need to do to bring the hostages home and I support the need to eliminate Hamas.

Do not support the current Israel government who I hold responsible for entirely screwing up and tiny chance of a peaceful peace process and I do not support the starvation of innocent Gazan citizens

I will support the right of a Jewish homeland to the end of my days and also support a 2 state solution with a democratic government in Gaza and the West Bank helping them to build an infrastructure.

I support equal rights for arab Israel citizens within Israel and I believe that any Jews choosing to live on the West Bank need to do so under Palestinian rule and not colonise the land for themselves

Free Palestine unfortunately often means liberate the whole region, ie no more Israel, so people stand with Israel's continuous existence as a country and Jewish homeland.

I do know that many people supporting the Gazan civilians right now don't wish to see Israel's destruction, as a disclaimer to the above.

sprinklesprinkle · 22/10/2023 15:39

No I don't. From what I have been told and seen online that is what I understood it to have meant. What does it actually mean then?

For many people Free Palestine means the destruction of Israel

bellac11 · 22/10/2023 15:40

Free Palestine is about land, acquisition or land being given back (delete according to belief)

Atmytethersend · 22/10/2023 15:41

Exactly this

sprinklesprinkle · 22/10/2023 15:42

I believe the Jews have a right to a nation

What about a Palestinian's right to a nation? Where should they go?

They have the right to a nation too, hence the need to successfully implement a two state solution, as hopeless as that currently looks.

RudsyFarmer · 22/10/2023 15:44

I listened to a podcast yesterday which talked of the distinction between Israel wanting a protected state and preparing to fight for it and Hamas wanting eradication of all Jews in the area. So it’s not a case of Palestinians wanting peace, its much more than that.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 22/10/2023 15:44

I'll just repeat what I said on another thread: My heart is with the Israeli peoples who just want to be left alone to live their lives in peace in a tiny area of the world, and it is also with the innocent Arab peoples who are being forced to live with the consequences of being ruled by Hamas.

Loulou599 · 22/10/2023 15:45

@sprinklesprinkle
The Palestinians have a nation and it has not been under existential threat from terrorism

What about a Palestinian's right to a nation? Where should they go?

The Palestinian authorities have chosen not to take part in peace talks to establish a 2 state solution because their basic starting point is the destruction of Israel. That's in Hamas's charter. I stand with Israel and am not Jewish because I believe Israel has an absolute right to exist - as does Palestine - but only one side of this has Jihadi terrorists in charge.

WarmWinterSun · 22/10/2023 15:48

OP, Israel has proposed a two state solution multiple times. Hamas has rejected it. What do people mean when they say ‘free Palestine’ given that historical context?

Hamas also believes in the eradication of Israel (beyond those living in Gaza). Hamas has now invaded Israel to murder, rape and kidnap innocent Israeli civilians.

I stand with Israel’s right to peace, to protect its citizens and its right to exist as a functioning democracy.

RudsyFarmer · 22/10/2023 15:53

I also know if I were Jewish right now I’d be terrified and I’m so sad it’s come to this.

ScribblingPixie · 22/10/2023 16:00

I also know if I were Jewish right now I’d be terrified

I literally heard a couple saying goodbye to a shopkeeper when I was out today as they'd decided to leave London immediately. Just awful.

Makethemostofit · 22/10/2023 16:03

Although this OP doesn’t really address me, because I don’t say “I stand with Israel”, I am currently wholly on the side of Israel in this.

I don’t believe in the correlation between ethnicity and a right to land, so I think the name ‘Israel’ is problematic because it is overtly tribal, however, as a country, it is a free and modern democracy and I support that.

In the UK, we have no correlation between tribe and land.

The words ‘free Palestine’ are empty and meaningless because they suggest no practical demands, which might actually bring about peace.

I believe there is a mass hysteria happening. It’s completely absurd that people are supporting terrorism.

This. 1000x over.
