C'mon in BESHes to the beach bar...sprawl on comfy sofas while you wiggle your toes in the sand and watch a glorious sunset....and drink brightly coloured cocktails with sparklers in. Cos we're classy, innit.

I've got Adam and joe in as barmen, and we have a rather nice Cave of Gloom in the corner for those 'whyyyyyy meeeeeeee???' moments. We have a reggae sound system playing mob barley's greatest hits. It's a sunshine paradise!

Newcomers welcome,as long as they drag along a bucket of black humour and a vast amount of gin. And please note, some of us have been here so long we have forgotten the real world almost entirely.

Now,who's getting the next round in?

Good article here, ladies, in response to a scaremongering bullshit piece in The Times about women having abortions after getting pregnant via IVF (80 women a year apparently do so. The original article tries to insinuate it's all due to silly, flighty, immature women 'changing their minds' - like having IVF is some frivolous, throwaway choice like getting a radical new hair colour or similar ).

Muser · 07/06/2010 08:09

That original article is awful. Wild conclusions based on nothing, loathsome paper.

Bessie123 · 07/06/2010 10:20

Hello, BESHes. Did you miss me? Did you?

Welcome, Salty - it looks like you've settled in already.

Muser - will you help me knit a blanket? I'm going to start it this week and I have to do 36 squares and a border by the end of July. I reckon if you do a few of the squares that will speed it up for me and make the finished version look a bit less shit

Scorps pull yourself together, girl. You're supposed to be getting ready for imminent updif, not gibbering on the sofa. You are for sure enrolled in the Summer Mass Diffment programme (I've put myself in charge of enrolment) so get with it.

Gin big smooch. Are you potty training Mani? Why is he doing wees on your foot?

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 11:16

I saw a similar article in the Daily Heil on my internet wanderings Scorps. The comments section was depressingly predictable (e.g. they should be put in prison). I actually went so far as to comment. Cretinous paper for cretinous people. Didn't quite say that, but I should have done.

Muser · 07/06/2010 11:36

Are you doing a blanket that requires sewing Bessie? That is v.impressive, I hate sewing with a passion. My blanket was chosen precisely because there was no sewing.

I think I am now physically incapable of knitting for at least a month.

I am also settling in for the 2WW, have decided that must have oved already. Think it was just a light FFJ month. Didn't do much SWI at all, just not in the mood yesterday and am not about to force myself. Figured that we were covered with Saturday's activities.

Now, when can I start symptom spotting? I feel very dizzy today.

OliviaMumsnet · 07/06/2010 11:46

Hello
Have changed your very long thread title as it won't all fit
HTH
MNHQ

PollyPoo · 07/06/2010 11:50

That Times article is hideous. I was more disappointed by the comments. Like lovely Aries I was going to post comments but couldn't be arsed with registering/logging in etc.

Scorpette · 07/06/2010 12:01

Gah, if they were going to change our name, they could at least have re-instated the '30s TTC' bit

Bessie, ya big meany! But I will pull myself together and get with the programme. Sexy times resume this Friday in time for a predicted Monday 14th Ov.

See, this is what pisses me off - my Ovs are (nearly always) textbook D14-ers, every test under the sun says I am fertile-tastic and yet still no baybeeeeeeeeeeeee! Am going to go back to Docs to get them to do more specific testing on hormones in Luteal Phase. I realise that me moaning about my apparently perfect reproductive health might be annoying to some, but imagine the colossal headfuck of being told repeatedly that you're apparently a one-woman baby-making machine but then nowt happens

I've gone a bit depressed again. Already thinking am never going to win. Violence urgently required!

Those articles about 'IVF abortion' are soooo depressing but yep, it's the comments that are the worst. Not only the misogyny but the flippant, callous lack of comprehension of the agony of childlessness and going for IVF. People are cunts.

OliviaMumsnet · 07/06/2010 12:08

Scorpette, we were asked to amend it.
Didn't realise I'd missed the 30s bit (it was a VERY long title ) which is now reinstated.

Headbanger · 07/06/2010 12:10

MNHQ just came into the Palais !!11!!1!

Scorpette · 07/06/2010 12:12

That's OK, Olivia, no worries. I likes a good grumble, me Thanks for reinstating the 30s bit.

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:16

Hello Beshie. Have you been on your hols?

That sounds terribly Enid Blyton, doesn't it? Been on your hols old girl? Are you trying out for Saturday morning lacrosse? Shall we have a midnight feast with lashings of ginger beer and egg sandwiches and potted shrimp? My sis and I used to try and play lacrosse with fishing nets and a tennis ball but it didn't really work. I used to want to go to Mallory Towers. Aren't kids weird?

Scorpette · 07/06/2010 12:20

I wanted to go to Mallory Towers soooooooo badly when I was little! Is no doubt the source of my only loving posh pre-war names for girls!

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:26

I wanted to be Alicia! Or failing that, Betty.

Bessie123 · 07/06/2010 12:34

mmm... potted shrimp.

Mallory towers, I did like that. And St Clares.

I haven't been on holiday but I didn't check into the palais for a week or so. It distracts me from working so I am trying not to spend all day on mn now...

Muser yes, I think my blanket does require some sewing. I can't sew, I am planning to cross that bridge at a later stage because quite frankly, if I ever do manage to knit 36 squares and a border without completely messing it up, a little bit of sewing should be quite easy to master. I am of your blanket, it looks really good. Mine will not be quite that standard...

Scorpette · 07/06/2010 12:35

OMFG, there are NEW books!

From Wikipedia:

"Pamela Cox wrote six sequels in 2009 which focus on the adventures of Felicity Rivers and June Johns:

  1. New Term at Malory Towers (2009)
  2. Summer Term at Malory Towers (2009)
  3. Winter Term at Malory Towers (2009)
  4. Fun and Games at Malory Towers (2009)
  5. Secrets at Malory Towers (2009)
  6. Goodbye Malory Towers (2009)"

How come we remember it as 'Mallory'? Guess phonetically it sounds like it should 2 Ls.

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:36

Did anyone read the 80s version Trebizon by Anne Digby? I wanted to go there too. I wanted to be Rebecca and be a tennis prodigy and good at all other sports too and live in a small boarding house with my friends and surf in the summer term...

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:38

Clearly we're both having a Very Busy and Important day, Scorps. Shall we have a BESH-library and share boarding school books? Am off to Wikipedia Trebizon now.

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:46

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trebizon

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 12:56

Cluster post alert...cluster post alert... scorps have you seen this? Wot a coincidence! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/978718-To-think-that-it-is-impossible-to-bring-up-your

Bessie123 · 07/06/2010 13:09

oooh, have you checked out these scary ladies? I haven't looked at their thread for about 2 years because they frighten me. I imagine them all with red lipstick and rictus grins (and alcohol breath), is that overly judgemental?

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 13:12

I mentioned that I'd ventured over there a couple of weeks ago to ask about whitening my knickers and I was completely derided! Are they for real do you think? There is also, refreshingly, a slattern's thread for sluts.

Bessie123 · 07/06/2010 13:15

whitening your knickers???? I'm not even going to ask...

The last time I clicked on their thread it was out of curiosity, I didn't know what fly ladies did. It turned out that on that day they whitened sinks and waxed floors before 8am. I must say I do admire their drive, I am just not sure what fuels it.

Scorpette · 07/06/2010 13:24

I have but one house rule: are things clean? If so, fuck everything else. OCD + laziness = balanced out into relative normality. Well, I would say that - TYF might say 'messy nightmare constantly screeching at me to wash my hands'. This is why filthy-but-neat IL's place drives me to distraction: germ-ridden show home

Ariesgirl · 07/06/2010 13:26

I had some really nice white lacy knickers which turned bluey grey as per normal and I wanted to get them back again because I liked them and I thought if anyone will know it's these ladies. So I asked. And the response was overwhelming.

That is my last post for a few hours. I'm starting to look like a total sad-act .
