Come on in, ladies. I've had a widescreen telly installed and there's a big cupboard full of 80s teen movies if anyone's interested. New and more secure cages for our prey are being delivered soon. There's a big picture of a desert over the bar, a loudly ticking clock in the corner and bowls of raisins, currants and sultanas on every table; everything the discerning BESH could ask for...

I heart modest mouse.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 12:57

I also want the Boscastle Busker!!!

Great joiny-inny choruses for drunk beshes, and he's a brilliant proper folky!

(and he's my dad )

camel / scorp have you heard the xx? Think you would like.

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 13:13

I have heard - and heard of - Neutral Milk Hotel. Have to say I was a bit meh about the album, but with such glowing praise I may well return to them.

Just googled the xx and they sound lovely. Am disturbed by the fact that music can be made by those who are still technically foetuses, though. Fuck, I'm old.

Deffo The Fiery Furnaces. They make a nicely odd noise.

Can I have Frank Turner, too? He's like a younger version of Billy Bragg. And has a lovely song called Thatcher Fucked the Kids (which I may have discussed on here before).

Gin - you can have the Boscastle Busker because he sounds super-amusing, not just because he's your dad.

(Sorry to post so much, peeps, am trying to distract myself from my I'm never going to have a baybeeeeeeeeeeeee thoughts)

ginhag · 02/10/2009 13:29

camel I am beginning to think that,at least in a musical sense, you are actually me.

Frank turner, yup.especially for 'photosynthesis'. The lyrics suit BESHes like us.google n see.

The xx are fab tho yep, annoyingly young.excellent lust music though.

I also want the national. And the clash. And the yeah yeah yeah's. And Joe Gideon and the shark.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 13:31

Photosynthesis also has an ov-encouraging video as I remember...

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 13:44

Photosythesis just hugely cheered me up - ta!

Love, love, love The National - quite often found myself heading to the pub on a Friday singing all the wine is all for me.

Oh, how about Neko Case?

ginhag · 02/10/2009 13:48

Alligator is on my fave albums ever list!

Don't know neko case. Tho I bet mr gin does.

You'd like Joe Gideon for sure.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 13:52

Listening to neko case now.new mr gin would have it.very into his music.

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 13:52

Oh fuck, this conversation is going to cost me a fortune on iTunes this weekend. Thank God it's still the beginning of the pay month.

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 13:54

Neko Case - find Hold On, Hold On if you can. Has brilliant lyrics.

I commend Mr Gin's taste.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:03

I got him the coolest Xmas pres, rough trade do an album club, they send an album and load of recommendations each month. Fab way of finding some off the wall stuff.

He uses emusic a lot as you pay subscription, seems to work well.

Could prob think of lots more you'd like..

Can't hassle him too much re looking at specific neko case track as we're at work and he's on a deadline. I can confirm I have heard this album before tho,and I like.

Do you like the low anthem?

skihorse · 02/10/2009 14:10

Fuck me some people are dumb. Some dope has just asked if I've got children around my dog. Errrr.... no, I use mumsnet because I thought it was dogsnet.

You are quite clearly a nutter. I don't even know what jailbait's astrological sign is - does this make me a self-obsessed loon? I do hope so.

So what's everyone doing this weekend? I'm going to a horse show tomorrow.

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 14:14

For some reason I know I've heard and liked the low anthem but have no more details in my head than that. Do I need to add them to the list? They're alt-country, right?

ski Between you and one of my bffs, I'm going to have to learn about these horse creatures. They bite? Right? And they're very far off the ground?

Oh My God I Have No Weekend Plans. I am so old and boring.

skihorse · 02/10/2009 14:18

camel well mine doesn't bite, or kick - she's a big softie. But yes, she's very high off the ground - but this can be useful or horrifying depending on your preferences. Take for example leaving work an hour early in the summer to get home for an evening hack... walking along a river bed, climbing up a path and then down out through a carpark in to a forest... except the carpark is full of people "dogging". "Good" view off the back of a horse.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:20

ski are you rampaging thru IDGAFIYABUON again?

camel yep I guess.am rubbish at thinking in categories, I tend to have 'good music' and 'everything else' as my two categories. Both albums really really good, melancholic and beautiful. 'oh my god Charlie darwin' is the new one, makes me want to cry (in a good way)

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 14:30

Ok, deffo adding the low anthem to the weekend music list.

ski Really? Ick.

Who are you shouting at elsewhere on mumsnet? Did you 'fess up to your dogs' breed, thus leading to a "but what about the children" moment?

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:35

camel go to pizza express's website, get a voucher for pizza, glass of wine n dough balls for a tenner, and hey presto! Weekend plans.

I have no plans either. Except possibly taking mani to pizza express.

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:36

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:38

Sorry internet connection just went funny.

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 14:44

Weekend plans are non-existent because Monsieur Camel has been working so damn hard this week that we haven't had time to make any. Bum. And he'll be really tired this weekend, too.

Can I come to Pizza Express with you & Mani?

ginhag · 02/10/2009 14:48

Yep...and then come and plunder mr gin's music stash!

(for ideas,obviously,so don't sue me,record companies.)

you're in that london though intcha? Shame you're not a brizzle BESH!

idealcamel · 02/10/2009 14:52

I know. Am proper West Country at heart if it helps though; parents are in Bath & rest of family is in Cornwall...

ginhag · 02/10/2009 16:02

Mr gin knackered also.

If you're ever down this way you should def look me up. We could have a Real Drink!

Scorpette · 02/10/2009 16:20

Just listening to the xx via youtube on another tab. I like. Camel has v similar taste in music to me (and TYF). I want They Might Be Giants, too. Am I alone in this? Gah, the last concert I (we) went to was Blitzen Trapper last year. Had tickets for Florence & The Machine just before she hit the big time, but had worst cold of my life and couldn't go. Regrets, I've had a flu (badum-tssssh!). Can we also have a Comedy Tent - purely for the purposes of kidnapping Charlie Brooker, mind

TYF is a muso and mighty talented - can we have him on, too? I'm the only groupie allowed though. If Bright Eyes sang songs about magical space cabbages, that's what he sounds like.

Ski - yeah, that's right, Mrs Coconut Hoof-Hands, I'm the mad one. Besides, I thought the Palace was a safe place where we don't have to pretend to be sane/mature/well-balanced, etc.

PS Have guaranteed updiff by keeping BPM at over 160 at gym. Then I can worry about ruining it through exertion.

I am so sad. I have no weekend plans (which is actually a relief because it's my first weekend of peace in ages) and I've never heard of most of these bands... so I guess finding out about them could be my weekend plan
