elliott · 15/05/2003 13:23

bayleaf, best of luck for Friday. does that mean dh won't be with you at transfer?
Hope the interview went ok too.

Jane101 · 15/05/2003 15:53

Bayleaf, we're all hoping and hoping for you.

Girly · 15/05/2003 15:55

I hope it all goes well for you bayleaf, i cannot imagine whats its like but would like to wish you all the best.

LucieB · 15/05/2003 16:20

Best of luck Bayleaf. I am also ttc and am going technical this month out of desperation!!! I am using the opks and persona to try and pinpoint when the best time is for bd!
Hope it all goes well and do keep in touch - we are all thinking of you.....

bayleaf · 16/05/2003 09:11

Thank you jane, elliott. Girly, Lucie - and good luck Lucie - I found persona very useful ( in the days before dh's problems).
elliott - yes he is away all weekend - and he didn't want to cancel as one of the friends he is going with ( his bf) has just been made redundant and no immedaite chance of new job so he didn't want to let him down ......
I got the job yesterday ( only applicant !) but unfortunatly dd decided to wake about 5 times in the night - very very unusual, she hasn't woken in the night for ages, but she missed a sleep at nursery, went to bed overtired and hey presto I was awake between 1 and 4 as of course being stressed I didn't fall asleep between 'call outs''
BUT I rang this am to find out if it was today or delayed till tomrrow ( a little complication they brought into play as a possibility last night)
and it's today and there ARE 2 blastocyst - so HOORAY!!!!!!

OP posts:
elliott · 16/05/2003 09:19

good luck bayleaf. Fingers crossed for an easy transfer and hope you don't go too mad in the 2ww...

elliott · 16/05/2003 09:20

oh, and congratulations on the job!!
Do you have to look after dd today or can you chill out at home?

Ghosty · 16/05/2003 09:57

Congratulations on the job Bayleaf ... and the good news about the blastocyst (all a bit technical for my small brain but I think all of it is good so far ....?)
I had a chat with my doctor yesterday (I was there for something else) and we might have hit upon a theory as to why I am not conceiving at the moment (don't even seem to be ovulating .. she did a blood test on day 16).
Thought I would run it by my good mates here and see what you thought.
Anyway ... it's like this ... When I conceived DS I was very slim (57kg ... Just under 9 stone ... I am 5'7". I was also on a totally wheat free and dairy free diet at the time (for my skin)
When I conceived the one I lost I was also very slim (around the same mark) ... although not on the wheat free dairy free thing.
NOW ... although definitely not OVERWEIGHT ... I am now 65 kg (I think that is around 10stone) ... I put on weight really easily - always have done - and have to be careful if I want to stay slim. I haven't worried too much about my weight in the last few months as I am planning to be pregnant and have had it in the back of my mind that I would diet again later ... after baby no2 comes along.
Well ... My doctor said that this could have a bearing on my being able to conceive and that I might have a tight weight bracket where my body is 'fertile' ...
Does this sound totally far fetched or does she have a point. I am due to go on the pill in a couple of weeks for 3 months to regulate my periods again ... and she said that I might want to try to shed that extra stone while I am on the pill to see if that will make it easier to conceive ...
Is she bonkers or not ... what do you think??

Ghosty · 16/05/2003 09:58

Didn't mean the winky face in the middle there ... don't know how that happened!!

GillW · 16/05/2003 10:00

COngratulations on the job bayleaf, and hope it all goes well today.

LucieB · 16/05/2003 10:02

Thinking of you bayleaf...hoping that May/June will be a lucky time for all of us ttc. I say that every month, but you DO have to stay optimistic, don't you?

StripyMouse · 16/05/2003 10:41

Ghosty - your doctor may have hit on something, don?t know enough to be of help really other than to offer support. I know when I was trying to conceive I latched onto any idea where I felt that I could do something prqactical about it as it made me feel in control again and more positive - that is not to knock the ideas, just how I felt.

TTC can make you feel so helpless at times as you can end up thinking that there is little more you can possibly do and your body is almost "failing" to keep up its end of the bargain! The frustrating part is that there is a fair amount of science and fact involved in the successful process of making a baby and yet there is the x factor lurking around to make the best made plans go haywire at times.
Like you I was slim at conception of number 1 (not as slim as you though!) and was concerned about putting on weight afterwards affecting my fertility as I had heard the stories. I lost two stone (not just out of fertility concerns but general embarrassment and a desire to become more healthy) and then went on to try again with relatively immediate success (not bragging, sorry, just being honest). I have no idea if that played a part but I feel relieved that I did it. I am still overweight but feel ok in myself for me, IYKWIM. By many people?s build and personal body shape I am still overweight but know that I am within my own body?s "bandwidth" for want of a better word. Looking at your height and weight, I would say that it sounds pretty ok to me if I were you, but everyone has their own bandwidth and just maybe you fall slightly outside it on this occasion. I would trust your doctor and give a sensible weight loss diet a go if he/she advises it - certainly can?t hurt and might make you feel more positive by doing something other than counting days and looking at temperature charts. Good luck.

(ps I used the slimming world diet mags for inspiration as that claims it is the only diet officially approved by the midwives assoc. as being safe during pregnancy with proviso of following doctors advice...made me feel that if i did fall pregnant my baby wouldn?t be missing out if I followed a more radical diet that can lead to missing nutrients)

Ghosty · 16/05/2003 10:47

Thanks StripyMouse ... you are a star! Glad to hear my doctor might not be barking mad!
I am a life time member of Weight Watchers so I am the queen of dieting ... so I will just have to go back there ...
Thanks again ...

LucieB · 16/05/2003 11:54

I am hoping that having the persona device means that we don't have to bd every night from when my period stops to when it starts again. This is the approach we have adopted over the past 6 months and its exhausting!

bayleaf · 16/05/2003 16:41

TEll me about it Lucie - I only kept that up for a couple of months whe trying for dd - but it's not something I'd recommend!
Ghosty - I'm not sure if this is relevent or not but I do remember reading ( maybe it was even on here) how a diet rich in high GI food could delay/prevent ovulation - thus for polycysitic people low GI was recommended. (As I'm addicted to high GI foods and my cycle was erratic in the past I did think I ought to try it - then discovered that the problem ws dh not me and forgt all about it.) GI values are on mendosa.com
May be the drs advice was linked to this in some way - would you say you ate high GI foods???

Ghosty, I read somewhere that extra fat, specially carried around the middle, can affect the uterus, apparently that is surrounded by fat too. So losing the spare tyre can help some women to conceive. Unfortunately my middle is whre all my weight goes. I have slim arms and legs, a great bust and about two stone in the middle.

chanelno5 · 16/05/2003 19:10

Hi Bayleaf - I'm still knocking around, just find it difficult to get on the computer, what with the kids and dh hogging it.

Hope today went well and that you're taking things easy. How long will you have to wait before you know?

Ghosty · 16/05/2003 21:33

Thanks bayleaf ... with all you are going through you still have time to support someone else ... thanks! I may be being thick though but I don't know what GI food is ... I will check out that website to find out.
bunny2 ... funny isn't it? my weight IS sitting around my middle ... and a bit around my bottom and thighs ... still got bony shoulders ... and lower legs ... mmmmmm... very interesting Meester Bond ....

bunny2 · 17/05/2003 08:04

I think we are classified as apple-shaped, the worst kind of fat to have apparently. . We are at risk from all sorts of nasties. It was great having slim legs when I lived in mini skirts but now the words mutton and lamb spring to mind.

bayleaf · 17/05/2003 09:54

GI food is linked to how quickly the food is metabolised and sugar gets into your blood stream - so glucose is at the top and oils are much lower down - the Atkins diet would be low GI - any sort of sugary stuff/white bread is high GI - wholemeal bread is better as it takes longer to metabolise - etc etc - yes if you look at the list it will make sense.

OP posts:
LucieB · 19/05/2003 15:27

What is GI food? Bayleaf - how's it going?
Really hope one of us will be posting some good news over the next 4 weeks. It seems to have been a long time since we heard a 'success' story!!!!

GillW · 19/05/2003 15:45

Am I the only one who thinks "GI food" sounds like American army rations?

dot1 · 19/05/2003 16:56

Bayleaf - all sounds hopeful and exciting - fingers crossed!!

I'm also on a huge diet (bleugh) - one of the symptoms of PCOS is being overweight, and with its links to insulin problems, a low GI diet is recommended. Unfortunately I like my rice and pasta too much....! But I've lost nearly 3 stone since September (I was VERY overweight) and have about 2 to go. Hoping this will make a difference to my chances to conceive - certainly both my GP and hospital dr. were pleased I was losing weight and said it would help.

Good luck to all....!
