New thread for all ttcers who want to moan etc...

OP posts:

P.S. Apparently exercise is also the key in helping women with PCOS to start ovulating - my hospital dr. said it's even more important than losing weight - starts everything working apparently.

I hate exercise.... but have started doing power walks twice a week, and occasional (very occasional) bout of exercise at home!

It's not flipping easy, is it?!

bayleaf · 19/05/2003 20:14

WOW dot - I'm impressed ! I too love everything a low GI diet would ban and hate exercise - it's about the only thing I could't make myself do when I thought the problem was mine!

And yes Gill - I know exactly what you mean!

It's day 8 today - feel like I'm pregnant as am on progesterone pessaries so feel knackered and tender breasts but that is all the side effects so altho it's tempting to dream I KNOW it's just the drugs!

OP posts:
elliott · 19/05/2003 20:43

bayleaf I was wondering how on earth you could already be day 8 -then remembered that the defrost started a week ago! At least this way you just have a slightly-longer-than-one-week wait!! Good luck for whenever you decide to test...

dot1 · 20/05/2003 08:46

oh Bayleaf - I'd be testing from today and driving myself mad..! Hope you can stand to wait another few days (week?). Huge amounts of good luck vibes coming your way!

Just worked out when I maybe should be trying next month, and we're probably going to be on holiday.... I'm not 100% sure as I'm only day 19 today, so a few days either way on my cycle length and we could be around - we're only going away for 3 days, but it's looking like those 3 days if my cycle's its usual 28 days.... I hate either not being able to plan anything in advance, or keep missing attempts.

Ho hum. Can't do anything for the moment - but hope for a 26 or 31 day cycle!

josiejump · 20/05/2003 15:13

Bayleaf, excellent news about the blastocysts ( all new to me, it would appear that the FET technology is way in advance of when I had the last one in 2001 ). Have been thinking of you and keeping fingers and toes crossed!

bunny2 · 22/05/2003 15:05

Well, the results of my blood tests show no hormone problems and I do ovulate so I should be able to conceive. My gp thinks itis likely that our problems stem from the fact that I have a very long and irregular cycle so pinpointing ovulation is difficult. We have been referred to the infertility clinic, does anyone have any advice about the sort of treatment I can expect. Will Clomid be prescribed for my cycle or is it more for women who do not ovulate at all?

josiejump · 22/05/2003 20:58

Bunny2, all I remember of our first visit to the consultant ( besides him being horribly late for the appointment making me miss an afternoons work), was being asked to go away for a month and fill in a chart detailing every time we had sex. I remember feeling cross and deflated as I knew that we were doing it often enough and at the right time, and having waited so long for an initial appointment felt that this was just wasting more time. Hope your appointment is more productive ( mine was in 1995 so I expect things are completely different now).

bunny2 · 23/05/2003 14:21

Josiejump, that's awful! We forked out for a private appointment, I shall certainly expect more for 95 quid!. You must have been so disappointed, what an anti-climax (no pun there!).

caz61 · 24/05/2003 09:16

That GI stuff is really interesting - I have been told in the past I have gluten allergies and maybe this is one of the reasons I am not conceiving (can't stop eating bread and pasta!) All the recent press about the Atkins diet says it is safe - so that may be the best approach - then I could be slim AND pregnant!! Whooppee!!

Bayleaf - I have been following your experiences and wish you tons of luck and positive thoughts!

caz61 · 24/05/2003 09:18

Bayleaf - did you used to be a fireman on London's Burning???!!!

Ghosty · 24/05/2003 09:44

Thanks bayleaf for pointing me to the right thread!!
Caz61 ... on the gluten free subject ... I have been wheat free for 3 days now!! Not as easy in NZ as it was in the UK ... although they pride themselves on the 'allergy' thing here!!
You can get wheat and gluten free pasta in most UK supermarkets ... you have to get used to it but it tastes quite nice! The rice pasta is very tasty ... If I would you I would ask for someone to point you in the right direction ...
I have to go to an Organic Health Food shop here for mine ...
In Waitrose you can buy a couple of Russian breads called 'Borodinsky' and 'Rossisky' that are made of Rye and are totally wheat and yeast free ... you need to slice it thinly and toast it as it is a bit heavy on its own.
When I was really into it (when I conceived DS) I used to eat rice crispies or cornflakes or porridge with soya milk for breakfast ... Loads of salads (with rice or the wheat free pasta) or the russian bread for lunch ... and dishes with rice or potatoes or the rice pasta for dinner. I ate a lot of meat ...
I am really looking forward to going back to it ...
As for dairy free ... soya milk and sunflower spread more than compensated for milk and butter ...
I really feel that this is the thing for me to do if I want to conceive ... hope I haven't got my hopes up for nothing ...
HTH a bit ... love G xxx

elliott · 24/05/2003 09:44

bayleaf, all the best for the weekend and hopign for some good news from you when I'm back on Monday....(actually I expect you'll be testing like mad already....)

Ghosty · 24/05/2003 09:46

PS ... I was wheat and dairy free for a skin condition ... had no thoughts of having a baby at that time ... but concieved without trying. and the reason why I have gone back to it is because it is the only thing I can think of that has changed in terms of conception .... IFYKWIM!!!

bayleaf · 24/05/2003 13:01

Ghosty I think you're doing the right thing - so many people on fertility websites have got pregnant after changing their diet it's just untrue!
Caz - no firebrigade links of my own I'm afraid ( it was a primary school nick name) tho I did once go out with one who now works for the LFB!

I'm afraid I'm not pregnant - I've had the absolutely confirmation early as they will test eary if your period starts and mine did a couple of days ago so I've had a while to get used to the idea.
I've done my bit of crying at the 'unfairness' of it all and have been out shopping this morning - nothing like a bit of retail therapy to help!

I've said it before but I always survive best by really focussing hard on the good things in my life rather than allowing myself to wallow, It's not that I'm at all Pollyannaish in real life, just that it 'works' for me! I've got dd who is such a poppet - (all the nursery nurses regularly tell me how happy/affectionate/kind/generous she is) ( certainly doesn't take after me!!!) so I'm very blessed to have her - I've got a good marriage and so many posts on here make me stop and realise how much I take it for granted and shouldn't, my dad lives nearby and I idolise him - I've got a job I love and can work as much or as little as I choose and am about ( in September) to go back to my old head of department level as a job share - dh earns lots of money so I have an indulgent life with all my cleaning and ironing done and I don't have to stress about the cost of ivf and can really have as much as I want (!) and I have good eggs and good embryos so it is likely that it'll work in the long term, it's just a lottery as to which ones 'take' and which ones don't ( apparently!)
So it's not a bad old life really and holding these thought around me is like an armour for me - when I see pregnant people ( and there were plenty in town this morning...) I think ''oh but maybe you're a single parent - or you'll have to work full time even tho you don't want to - or you hate your job or whatever - not many people in my experience really do have it all.

I've got a review on 2nd June - but basically I want to try again next cycle - so that will be end of July really.
!

I'm sorry that this month wasn't you lucky month Bayleaf. Its true what you say about 'having it all'. All the very best for your next cycle.

Jane101 · 24/05/2003 16:10

Bayleaf - I'm really sorry. I'm glad you're managing to be positive.

Marina · 24/05/2003 18:56

Bayleaf, so very sorry it did not work out for you this cycle. I'm sure that an overall positive attitude to the whole experience, such as yours, is going to help you sooner rather than later. I certainly hope so, because you really deserve it. Ghosty, hope the diet (which sounded grim at first glance until you explained it in detail, and then it seemed "doable" works its magic for you again.

Crikey, triple post and unwanted winks. Sorry ladies, must take elbow off keyboard when checking Mumsnet...

Ghosty · 24/05/2003 20:52

Dear Bayleaf ... so sorry it hasn't worked out for you this month. You are so positive about it all and you post is a testimony to your fantastic attitude ... I really hope you have more luck next cycle!!
Thanks, to you and Marina for your kind words ... the added bonus of this diet is that I will be skinny again!! Eating no dairy products (but taking calcium supplements) is a great way to get slim!!!!!

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2003 12:15

Oh, Bayleaf, so sorry it didn't happen for you this time. Your mindset is admirable though.

josiejump · 25/05/2003 20:55

Bayleaf, really sorry to hear your news although I'm sure it won't be long before it works as you have totally the best attitude. Keep smiling ( and if I knew how to send you a smiley I'd do one now).

tigermoth · 26/05/2003 09:52

bayleaf, just read your positive rant. What a good way of looking at a life (and yours has lots of greast stuff in it, as you say). You say it's only a matter of time before the IVF works for you. I hope that the waiting is soon over. I am sure your baby, whenever he or she arrives, couldn't be more loved.

Your daughter sounds such a sweetie.

Ghosty · 26/05/2003 21:03

Erm ... just thought I might let you in on something ...
After all my going on about diets and not ovulating etc it looks like I might have to leave this thread after all ...
I will keep lurking though to follow the progress ... Hope everyone keeps going and smiling and wish you all lots of luck ...
