hewlettsdaughter, just read a post from you below about staying pregnant, and I don't know much about anything but just read recently about selenium levels being low in women who miscarry and it's also good for fertility. I have just gotten myself a jar of 50microgram capsules. Here is a website with more info (HTH)

Brill news Bunny2. Good luck with the clomid - keep us posted with how you get on. Want to know all the details! I dont have facial hair either, nor am overweight, but do have polycystic ovaries, so it could be that that is your reason for lack of ovulation too. Anyway, it doesnt matter cos its the clomid way either way! Good luck.

hewlettsdaughter · 18/06/2003 19:35

BigBird, thanks for the info. I've looked up what foods selenium occurs in naturally: meat, fish, cereals, eggs, cheese, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, garlic, mushrooms, onions, asparagus, spinach, tea, brewers yeast, sesame and sunflower seeds, brazil and cashew nuts.

Don't mean to be paranoid but be careful of the nuts. I was doing a high zinc diet, including nuts 2-3 times day for nausea when I miscarried. DS's allergy consultant said he couldn't rule out that it had caused the miscarriage if new "baby" was also allergic. Chances are pretty slim I know but will be avoiding nuts when get pregnant next time. Am trying to pin DH down to try again this month, think he is feeling the pressure and keeps disappearing!!! If not pregnant this month may give it a rest for a few months and come back to UK for Septmeber. Gives me something else to look forward to.
Good luck everybody

Jane101 · 21/06/2003 16:23

LucieB and dino55 - congratulations. bunny2 - good luck with the clomid. I needed chocolate today, too. It hasn't worked again this month, unfortunately, but I've already rung the clinic and arranged to try again next month. We're not giving up yet.

dino55 · 21/06/2003 17:31

Jane101 lots of luck, hope it all works out for you next month, fingers crossed.

jodee · 21/06/2003 17:55

Lots & lots of luck to everyone trying - I can't wait for my period to end!!!!

moosh · 22/06/2003 11:28

Hi there ttcvers,
Why is it that when you are ttc the two weeks leading up to your period (if you are regular as clockwork like me) can seem the longest ever. I'm finding it pretty hard this month as I think that my body is too stressed to conceive. I work part time am studying too with exams looming in 2 weeks and have ds at that hard working age of 3.5 yrs. I have a week to go till my period and am really taking a battering with PMT (or hopefully pregga symtoms) I am particulary ill tempered and pathetically emotional and am feeling sick. I have put this down to stress as I do not want to get my hopes up. I am not a regular on this thread have only been on once before but would be nice to hear from anyone. Only 5 days to go but I don't think that it is looking likely that I will be preggas. Sorry don't mean to sound depressive but I think I am seriously PMTEED!

bayleaf · 22/06/2003 13:06

OH Jane101 - I'm so sorry. Hope you have some first rate chocolate on hand - and lots of it.
I'm a bit weaned off Mumsnet these days - not sure how it's happened - maybe because I look on the CARE ( assisted repro) board more and don't have time for both - but I've kept looking in over the weekend just in case you had news - it feels like a very small club of us now who have been here for AGES ( that is NOT meant in any way negatively towards newcomers!) and it's about time another one of us got a break! isn't it?
I'm just waiting for my period to start anyday so that I can get back on that expensive rollercoaster. WE can only be optimistic for next month can't we?

Hi moosh, sorry you're feeling bad. Know what you mean about that time until your period taking forever... I hope your symptoms are pregnancy ones rather than PMT! Your son and mine are around the same age - mine will be 4 in August. Here's hoping the next week goes quickly for you

Jane101 · 22/06/2003 15:23

moosh, I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten - but no wonder, with all that to contend with. The waiting's horrible isn't it? I find it almost a relief once I know for definite, even if it isn't good news.

Thanks for thinking of me bayleaf. I've pretty much got over the disappointment for this month - as you say, all we can do is look forward. We've had 3 good goes at iui now, and I've promised myself at least another 3, so I'm not desperate and feeling like it's our last chance yet.

moosh · 23/06/2003 08:25

Thanks Jane 101 and hewlettsdaughter feel a little better this morning. Off to work now so at least it will take my mind off the waiting. Will post this thread at the end of the week to let you know if I have my period or not. Is looking likely that it may come early though because of the extra stressful feelings I have this month.

luchar · 23/06/2003 09:07

Dot1 are you still around? Can you email me about the Persona please - I have had an email from someone else who wants it and need to know if you still do. I am holding onto it for you so please get in touch! Hope you are OK - you've not posted for ages. Luchar.

elliott · 23/06/2003 09:34

luchar think she might be on holiday.

LucieB · 23/06/2003 10:20

Jane and Bayleaf - have everything crossed for you both for next month Good luck everyone else too....

Egypt · 23/06/2003 19:04

How is the clomid going, Bunny2? How often do you have to have scans during the cycle? Want to know as should start in about 3 weeks all being well and want to know if it means we cant go on hols!!

bunny2 · 23/06/2003 19:43

Hi Egypt, I've been taking Clomid for 3 days now and am experiencing some rotten side-effects - dizziness, headaches mainly. I have 2 more days to go then I will hopefully ovulate in about a week. I am not having scans at the moment, just a blood test on day 21 which will establish whether or not I did ovulate. If I didnt, then the dose will be upped to 100 mg a day (I am currently on 50). I dont know if scans are necessary, my consulatant thought not (kept the cost down!) but I have done some Google searches on Clomid and some sites do recommend scans. What does your sonsulatant say? And where are you off on holiday?

bunny2 · 23/06/2003 19:44

Bayleaf and Jane, best of luck to you. I really hope you both succeed next month.

bunny2 · 23/06/2003 19:44

Bayleaf and Jane, best of luck to you. I really hope you both succeed next month.

bayleaf · 23/06/2003 21:03

Bunny when I was on Clomid I didn't have scans at 50 - just when I was on 100.
Sorry you're having such horrid side effects

Hi Bunny
my consultant hasnt gone into the details of it all yet. i am to go back in 3 weeks and get myblood test results to see whats going on with me when at the beginning of a cycle. he has the ones from the end and he says that the high LH hormone seems to suggest that i didnt ovulate. this really annoys me as i do ovulation tests and i do get a positive at about 15-19 days (today in fact ) but it stays positive for the rest of the cycle which is false. anyway, he says that i will need help and that when i go back in 3 weeks we can sort out treatment. i do hope that means that day. how much is your treatment costing? i take it you are going private? i will prob continue privately, unless the cost is extortionate.
i hope that you are feeling better soon. does the clomid mean that you expected to have a period on time next month(if you aren't pregnant?)

Egypt · 23/06/2003 21:18

no hols destination planned yet, will go last minute if can!

sibble · 24/06/2003 00:22

Hi Moosh
Fingers crossed for you (and everybody else). Know where you are coming from with PMT/time coming up to your period. Am about a week behind you and am starting to count the days already. Lost the plot a bit last month (serious PMT). Have 1 pg test sitting in cupboard waiting with fingers crossed.
Good luck with the exams and keep us posted on both.

Tillysmummy · 24/06/2003 13:51

Me !!! Just started. Good luck to you all
I have a question. Had polycystic ovaries a while ago and got pregnant with dd straight after coming off the pill (by accident, we were supposed to be using contraception for 3 months). My doctor told me to do the same again this time to get pregnant, start trying straight after coming off the pill because your fertility is increased apparently. Has anyone got any idea how long this fertility boom lasts ? Can't face having to have sex every night indefinitely
