sorry Luchar - I had a few days off work and can only access Mumsnet at work! Please pass it on to someone else - I think I'll just stick to doing my chart at the moment - but thanks anyway!

I'm a bit down at the moment, which is also why I haven't posted. My thyroid's possibly playing up again - just waiting for blood test results - as my GP's discovered I've got an irregular heartbeat which he wants to investigate. It could be that if my thyroid's gone overactive it's affecting my heartbeat, and it'll be easily sorted out by reducing my medication, but I'm worried it'll have implications on ttc.... so I'm desperately trying to get my blood results before the next ttc attempt - in about 10 days time..!

Ho hum. Always something to think about.

Hope everyone's doing OK and there'll be more good news from someone soon.

Tillysmummy, I think the 'boom' lasts for just the first month. this happened with two friends of mine too. immediately. start trying from day one of coming off the pill

bayleaf · 24/06/2003 19:49

Sorry to hear it's going a bit pear shaped for you dot - we old stagers don't seem to be getting our fair share of luck at the moment do we?
Fingers crossed that it's all very simple and is sorted out PDQ.

Bayleaf- So sorry to hear your news. You are an incredible inspiration - hearing you saying how you focus on the good things in life is so uplifting. I am trying to do the same and it does help if you can become un-all-consuming(is this really english?) on the subject. You keep going girl - someone with such spirit should have what they desire.

Ghosty - thanks for your advice re diet. I have been off most caffeine and gluten now for about two weeks and I do feel better... only trouble is I have been staying with family and my alcohol intake has probably tripled!. Also my partner is 100 miles away so unless he has really powerful airborne sperm - it ain't gonna happen this month... watch this space!!

Good luck to all who have their fingers crossed this month!! (Sorry.. as you may have guessed - just slightly the worse for wear!)

quackers · 25/06/2003 08:54

Hi all, hope you're all keeping well! I am sorry there is no positive news this week, sibble, maybe it's your turn then?? Well this is it fr me now. Period over and we'll start trying again from the weekend. It feel sweird though planning to do it - I have never done that before. I hope we can try and be spontaneous. Maybe a bottle of bubbly will help especially as we are going to a wedding at the weekend!
Any tips here girls??
Good luck all for your next cycles!!
LOL xxx

bunny2 · 25/06/2003 08:57

Day 5 of clomid and the side effects seem to have passed .. except for one that is. I cant stop eating chocolate, it's more than desire and greed (my usual reasons), this is more like a physical need. And, weirdly, other food makes me feel sick. So I am living on 4 chocolate bars a day and little else, great pre-conception diet eh? (but I am taking my folic acid).

luchar · 25/06/2003 11:04

Hi Dot1. Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry you're a bit down at the moment, hope you feel better soon. I'll pass the Persona on to someone else then. Good luck with ttc - really hope it works out for everyone on this thread.

Lexy75 · 25/06/2003 16:18

Hi all this is my first time on here.Gald to have found some people on here that no what im going through.Hope that doesnt sound horrible i didnt mean it that way.Anyway i came off the pill a year ago now and im having very irregular cycles longest one so far has been 42 days.Went to my gp and mentioned it to her she said it was just pill infertilty and to give it time.I went back last month and she has told me to have a blood test done on day 21 of my cycle.I got my period earlier this month it was 34 days this time. Not sure if i should have the test done on day 21 now cos i came on earlier.Or is it normal to have it done on that day? Any advice would be great.I already have an 8 year old son would have thought i would be pregnant by now Find it so hard not to get my hopes up every month and then when i do come on i get very down. There also seems to be lots of pregnant women and babies everywhere.

bunny2 · 25/06/2003 16:57

Hi Lexy75, welcome to the thread. I, like you, have been plagued by very irregular cycles which, according to my fertility consultant, is a good indication that I am not ovulating. This may not be the case for you but I presume that is what the blood test is for. I think, on a regular monthly cycle, day 21 is a good day to test to establish whether or not you have ovulated in the previous week (assuming on a normal cycle ovulation falls around the 14th day). The problem with an irregular cycle is that one never knows when to test for this. I cant really offer any good advice but you will find lots of help here, and lots of sympathy.

Is weight gain inevitable with Clomid, according to my mother it is.

Lexy75 · 25/06/2003 17:44

Hi again and thanks bunny2 i am going to make an apointment for my blood test tomorrow day 21 of my cycle will fall on a saturday im not sure whether it would be better to have the test the day before or wait till the monday.Thought about trying those ovulation tests but then again wouldnt have a clue when to start cos im so irregular.Being tested for pcos as well as i have also had unexplained weight gain and i dont think i eat loads and i get regular excersize i bike to pick my son up from school.Think i need a new body this one is broken lol

bayleaf · 25/06/2003 18:34

Lexy if your cycle is not 28 days then you won't want it on day 21 - instead 7 days after when you usually ovulate - it looks for the rise in progesterone which comes after ov - so if you do it at 21 days and you have a longer cycle than average ( eg 34 days) then altho you may well ovulate the test will miss the progesterone surge.
I DO ov but on a 32 day cycle - to start with I thought I didn't and tried clomid and all sorts!
Good luck
ps Caz61- thanks for your kind thoughts

Thanks for the advice babyleaf will go back to my doctor and ask her what she advises.Problem is my cycle is so irregular it was bang on 28 days for the 2 months after i came off the pill then it kept getting later and this time its earlier.Ive had a 29 day cycle for a month then a 30 day cycle for a month then it went to 37 days then it went to 42 daysand then this month it was 36 days.
So how will i ever know when the time to concieve is.

Egypt · 25/06/2003 19:14

Hi lexy
I have the same prob as you and have been ttc for a year, just over. My periods are all over the place, if at all. I went for 4 months without a single one, then they have started coming regular just the last 2 months. you may have pco but i wouldnt think that it will be at all severe, as you have pretty regular is periods, at least you do get them, although sometimes late or early. i think you should start testing with ovulation sticks and start around day 11 of your cycle. keep testing everyday until you get a positive. the only prob is that you may find you have to test for a week or two, and they are expensive at the chemists. I have had some ov tests delivered by post which were really cheap. they are on a website which i shall have to look up for you, but they were great and were delivered within 3 days. the tests are q sensitive however, which dont seem to do the trick for me, as they detect a lower level of LH surge (which is what your body makes just before you ovulate). My doc seems to think that i am not ovulating but producing a little of the LH hormone. the chemist ov tests detect the LH surge when it is high - which is how it goes when you do ovulate, so itmay be wise to get one pack of clearblue tests or suchlike to use as a backup. when you find the cheaper sticks give you a positive, check with the chemist kit, just to check that your surge really is high enough to be a positive. hope this is not too confusing! i tend to rabbit on a bit! I shall get you the web address as soon as i find it

Egypt · 25/06/2003 19:24

lexy - the website is www.earlypregnancy.co.uk
i bought the ACON tests - really cheap, but they have others, including chemist type tests like clearblue and predictor.

Lexy75 · 25/06/2003 19:28

Thanks for the advice egypt and the link for the tests would be great Hope u have some good luck soon.

hewlettsdaughter · 25/06/2003 20:56

Het quackers, just read your post. Does it feel good to be at the point of trying? My tip would be relax and enjoy your weekend! You never know what might happen...

hewlettsdaughter · 25/06/2003 20:58

That was meant to be "Hey quackers..", sorry

Lexy75 · 26/06/2003 10:04

BigBird · 26/06/2003 10:23

for me this month.
I was away with work and AF started a tiny bit and then stopped for over a day so I was convinced it must be breakthrough bleeding and I was pregnant. Didn't want to test till I got home to DH. It went so far as I was watching what I ate and staying away from certain cheese. But then it started big time. Very dissapointed. Time to get the ov sticks and try again. Good luck everyone.

bunny2 · 26/06/2003 12:13

Bad luck Big Bird

AliBaba · 27/06/2003 11:30

Quackers, the daftest piece of advice I've been given is to put a bottle of champagne under your pillow on the critical night. Needless to say, I've never tried this, but would be interested to know if it works...

bunny2 · 27/06/2003 19:24

I'm currently monitoring cervical mucus. Where's the mucus thread?

Jane101 · 27/06/2003 21:29

Bigbird, I'm sorry you got your hopes up and then were disappointed. It just makes it so much worse when you manage to convince yourself it's worked doesn't it?

bunny2, I don't remember hearing about clomid causing weight gain, but I could have missed that.

I had a scan today, and have decided not to go ahead with the iui this month, as I'm ovulating on the wrong side again. I'm getting really fed up with this now.

bayleaf · 27/06/2003 22:02

OH bummer again Jane - there's only SO much positive thinking and waiting optimistically that a girl can do isn't there? I can quite imagine how you must feel - it 's bad enough to keep failing to get pregnant, despite the 'high tech' approach - but to not even be able to try - well that's the pits.
I'm desperately trying to eat healthily to optimise my chances this time as my usual diet is pretty awful and full of sweets and chocolate and bicuits - it's really not much fun! Lucky we live in the middle of nowhere or I'd be off to an all night garage right now for some chocolate...

OP posts:
Egypt · 27/06/2003 23:06

Bunny2
How's the clomid going now? Are you feeling over the side effects yet? Are you having scans to see if you are ovulating? Or are you taking ov tests?
