wow omg i cant believe how busy this thread is! i go away to have reflexology and my eyebrows waxed and there's just a gazillion posts to catch up on!!!

welcome to all those who have just joined, bigbro when you are at low fertility you have high levels of oestrogen in your body which is why it detects it on the stick, as your cycle progresses, the amount of oestrogen will decrease as you get your LH surge (peak day). When you get a peak that doesnt mean you are ovulating, it means you will ovulate in the next 24-36 hours after the LH surge. If you go on to the clearblue fertility monitor website they explain it all really well (much better than i can!).

ewcm is the really fertile mucous that allows the sperm to swim easily up to meet the eggy, and it allows the sperm to live for a number of days. if you dont have ewcm then the sperm are less likely to make their way up and reach the egg, plus they dont survive very long. Toni weschler has written a really good book called taking charge of your fertility, i really recommend it!!!

carol- if you peaked on cd19 then i would add about 12/14 days before AF will arrive (depending on how long your luteal phase is).

hope i havent come across preachy or anything...

engelbart · 17/06/2009 20:57

andiw, you're right, who am I kidding, just going to go for it tonight! DH will have to rise to the occasion!! He can have a night off tomorrow.. .

Oooh Trixel, you never know, you might get your high tomorrow and then the action can begin!

Does everyone else feel like a nervous wreck, waiting for the reading, when the monitor does its flashing thing?!

NewMember · 17/06/2009 21:17

Hi Ladies,

AF got me this morning, so onwards and upwards for me!

Hope u are all well

andiw77 · 17/06/2009 21:30

NewMember · 17/06/2009 21:31

AF is your period arriving Not sure why it's AF I have just caught on with the Mumsnet codes! lol

andiw77 · 17/06/2009 21:34

thats my girl engelbart. Have fun...

andiw77 · 17/06/2009 21:35

thanks newmember - its so confusing. I'll need to ask loadsa silly questions

babyinacorner · 17/06/2009 21:38

Evening ladies - hope you are all well.

New member - sorry to hear AF got you - i know how hard it is

engelbart - good luck for tonight -I got home from work early and luckily so did dh so the deed has already been done!

If I get a high tomorrow do you think it's worth doing it again, i don't know if i can muster up the energy and is it really possible to get pregnant that long after ovulation?

Also - gross question but tonight after bd'ing i was lying down with me legs/bum raised for about 40mins but then had to get up. would this have been enough time for the swimmers to get swimming? the fact that loads fell out doesn't fillme with hope!

babyinacorner · 17/06/2009 21:43

p.s i'm a dipper too! i literally can't poas as i just end up actually pomh (peeing on my hand!)

babyinacorner · 17/06/2009 21:45

p.s i'm a dipper too! i literally can't poas as i just end up actually pomh (peeing on my hand!)

Trixel · 17/06/2009 21:53

booo for AF NewMember - sorry to hear that. Glad you're positive though. x

Trixel · 17/06/2009 21:58

haha lol baby: "pomh" - absolutely!
think 40 mins would definitely be enough time. i know some comes out, but a lot stays in as well. remember that some of the goo that comes out is your own - sorry, tmi!!
AF stands for Aunt Flo as in "flow" - goodness knows who dreams these up in the first place!
BYM - not preachy, useful and knowledgeable!
And yes - I'm a dipper too! Just much easier weeing in cup isnt it?!

babyinacorner · 17/06/2009 22:00

thanks trixel - you have given me some hope

andiw77 · 17/06/2009 22:08

Carolk06 · 18/06/2009 12:12

thanks bella, angua, was just really confused on the days. I need to test on sat as am going to a hen on sat night. Just trying to figure out if sat will be 2-4 days before af due. To be hoenst am just not positive about this month at all as have had my normal af quesiness all this week However, you're right nemember, onwards & upwards if the hag does show her face!

Carolk06 · 18/06/2009 12:21

Angua, forgot to say my cycle hasn't been standard. It was 29 last month and 25 the previous mth, this was the 1st mth using the monitor and because I ov'd on d18/19 then am going by af arriving 14 days later - my doc once told me that I can nearly guarantee on af arriving 14 days after ov but I just don't know if ov was d18 or 19, and does 18/19 count as day 1 of the 14??? I think I'm gone mad LOL
Phew, just had a cuppa to calm down, and cop on! Hope you're all having a good day ladies

andiw77 · 18/06/2009 17:09

2nd peak day for me yay!!! Must say tho, I find it hard to stay horizontal afterwards

engelbart · 18/06/2009 19:08

Hello everyone! How are we all doing?

I managed to stay horizontal last night! Really really hope this gives me a better chance this month.

CD 16 today and got high, so thats it now, all over for another month, no more dipping on a stick until next month.

Andiw expect you'll be busy later tonight then!

Trixel · 18/06/2009 22:35

hi engel, glad you've stayed horizontal! i'm doing well thanks. just torn between feeling a bit disappointed that haven't got a high yet (only day 10 though!) and quite pleased that the monitor is showing me something slightly different to what i expected. it would be quite nice to find out (in a way) that we've been way off with our dates the last few months. well, we'll see anyway - que sera sera
how are you doing carolk? i reckon just test on sat anyway before the hen night, but you may well still be too early.... it's awful when you've got a big night out planned and you're not sure whether you might be pg...
we've got a ball this saturday - parents' do from school (ds1 is in reception) - and i have to say i'm quite pleased that i've not had a high or peak yet so that i can let go a bit!!
andiw - this is going to sound ridiculous (mainly because it is!) but both times i conceived my 2 gorgeous boys we turned the tv on afterwards whilst i stayed lying down and columbo was on!! praps that's what you need - a bit of peter falk!

AnguaVonUberwald · 19/06/2009 09:14

Well ladies fingers crossed for everyone.

It is hopefull when the monitor shows you something different than you expected, as it gives you hope.

Mine did that, I am ovulating later than I would have thought and seem to have 11/12 days between ovulation and period.

The thing is, I am now 8/9 days post ovulation - so you could say thats a little early for a postive test (its negative by the way) but 3 days before AF is due - so if pregnant I should be getting a positive!

I think I probably am not, if I was pregnant I would be testing positive by now - but will still test till AF starts in the folorn hope that it will be positive.

I supose the flip side to the monitor showing you that you have been doing it on the wrong days, is when you do it on the right days, and it still doesn't happen!

bigbrofan · 19/06/2009 11:15

i am on day 13 now and got a high yesterday and today (dipped both times) - i was so excited!!! i am hoping i peak at the weekend so i have lots of time with husband....

angua - i know what you mean about doing at the right time and it doesnt happen - it's rubbish. last month i definately ovulated as i had a progesterone test done at the doctors and we tried practically every night for 14 days and then af came so thats why i bought this monitor - i figured i would try anything!!! i had to go for dinner last night with my inlaws and my husbands brothers pregnant girlfriend, who to the day is how far along i would have been had i not miscarried in january!!! hey at least i got a high on the monitor!!!

good luck to everyone

Katnkittens · 19/06/2009 12:54

Hi guys,

Been reading this thread as I'm thinking of getting myself into the hi-tech ttc clan and am wondering what you all think of them? (CBFM's)

I am 29 and have 3 Dcs already, aged 13 (in 2 weeks), 10 and 5 all conceived by accident(!) then I had a mc in December and another one in Jan and nothing since.

I know 5 months isn't that long but I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting my timings right and I also dont have any signs of OV so would be helpful to let me know if I am actually OVing.

Terrified of getting pregnant (due to mcs) and terrified of not getting pregnant!

What do you think? Worth getting one or will I become even more obsessed than I already am? LOL

Trixel · 19/06/2009 19:08

Hi Katnkittens, welcome! I'm similar to you in that i've got two kiddies already (altho not 3 like you!) at 5 and 3, and had no probs getting pregnant with them. Also we had 2 MCs, last Mar and Dec. Had decided not to TTC after the March MC thinking we're just grand as we are, then in Oct / Nov thought ah feck it shall we try just one last time, caught on first go, then miscarried again - grrrr! And since then havent managed to conceive. Personally, I'm really pleased to have got the CBFM - I just felt that I wanted to know when it was all going on. I havent found myself gettign obsesses about it - in fact in some ways it's taken away that sort of mad under-your-breath day counting that I'd sometimes find that I do - trying to work out when day 14 is, counting it forwards from day 1 first, then thinking ah but if i have a 30 day cycle this time it would be day 16, now that means we should try 3 days before blah blah blah. I quite like the machine saying "High" - go on and have some nookie. I find it much more relaxing!!
And I did get a High today - very exciting!! So I'll be off to have some nookie soon - when I can get the 2 little blighters to bed!!
Angua - if you're 8-9 days post ov, I dont reckon you'd be showing up yet to be honest, keeping my fingers crossed for you love.
How's everyone else?

babyinacorner · 20/06/2009 09:38

Hi everyone - hope you are all ok this morning.

Katnkittens - i agree with trixel about the monitor taking away an element of the stress - sort of being told what to do by a machine makes it quite cut and dried rather than trying to guess when you are ovulating! I find it a lot easier

Trixel - hopefully you will have got your peak today and will have an action packed weekend.

Engelbart -how are you feeling on the 2ww? I'm already getting impatient and got blimmin ages till we can test. do you have a 28 day cycle?

hello to everyone else and good luck to all who are bd'ing this weekend

engelbart · 20/06/2009 09:57

Morning everyone, its gorgeous weather here today, cant wait to get outside and enjoy the sun!

baby- I have a 28/29 day cycle so like you, have a LONG 2WW. I'm already counting down the days til I can test which can't be a good thing. Feel like I can't enjoy anything because all I'm obsessed about is testing and wanting the days to go fast! Not confident of a BFP this month either, as last month had sore boobs 3 days post ovulation and got the BFN have same thing again this month, a sympton that I'm not pregnant I think. With my dd I had no symptons at all so feeling a bit depressed already . When are you planning on testing? We can do virtual hand holding

Anyone else done a test

Trixel- yay for a high!

KatnKittens- I love having the monitor, and cant recommend it enough. It gives me reassurance that I am actually ovulating and takes all the guesswork away which has to be a good thing! True, it does make me more obsessive, but I think I'd be a bit obsessive anyway!
