Hi All, have been on a couple of ttc hreads but due to sad arrival of af yesterday and x2 negative pg testa thought I'd start a September one.

We are ttc#2 we already have dd(2) and had a mc in September this will be cycle 3 since mc.

Mc hit me hard, more so than other adverse life events for some reason also head full of other stuff such as trying to complete a Post grad Diploma in Cognitive Therapy!!

Anyway want to try to be optimistic and hopeful and not (too!) obsessive this month!

Anyone else fancy joining?? xx

Bubblebell, if it was me I'd just bd when i wanted to, it's quite a relief to be able to do that sometimes. But i do understand why you want to keep ttc too. For me to do it every other day until further notice would be too hard what with my shifts and ds and Christmas round the corner. I'm knackered as it is. I guess it depends how much tired you are with your other dcs.

HeadFairy · 16/12/2008 16:00

Oh, sorry irish, just scrolled down. Sorry to hear af got you

bubblebell1 · 16/12/2008 16:21

yer head...think thats best. just bd at will.

going for bloodtest tomorrow and have to wait a week for the results!!!

i dont think it will show much especially if the hpts are -tive

HeadFairy · 16/12/2008 16:34

A week tomorrow is Christmas eve. will they get the results before Christmas? I think just take it as an enforced break for a week at least. Time for you to relax and enjoy christmas (hard I know when all you want is a baby)

littlepea72 · 16/12/2008 17:36

Irish im sorry

irishmumwannabe · 16/12/2008 17:46

Ah thanks everyone - it's so nice to have other people around who I can share this with. All my friends would think I am mad ttc'ing and DH while he is great isn't eth same as another woman!

Anywho, jsut done my calculations and think I'll probably be late september/early oct so I'll stick around here and keep an eye on the list to see if anyone gets lucky!

Bubblebell if it were me I would just keep trying - you never know what your body is going to do!

Good luck to anyone testing in the next few days -

ForcesSweetheart · 16/12/2008 18:04

Opinions needed please!

Funds are limited this close to Christmas and I can't really afford to drive down to DH more than once. I'm trying to decide whether to go for it tonight, or wait til tomorrow night. Still getting negative ov sticks, and have some EWCM but I'm not convinced by the cheapie ov sticks and am worrying that I may ov tonight and then waiting til tomorrow night to drive down would be too late. Surely it'd be better to bd today even if I don't ov til tomorrow than to wait til tomorrow night and risk having missed it? Thoughts anyone? IS it possible I could ov tonight despite the negative ov sticks and ewcm? Arrgghh somebody more clued up please advise!

littlepea72 · 16/12/2008 18:54

Forces you know your own body, if you think it would be better then go for it. Remember that the sperm can live up to 3-5 days, so its going to be hanging around, but your egg might be gone or nearly gone by tomorrow night. I switched to the more expensive Ov sticks because i wasnt getting a reading on cheaper ones, the clearblue are about £19 but they give you a good reading. Happy bd'n!!

bubblebell1 · 16/12/2008 19:21

i forgot to ask!! i will find out when i have the test. scrambled egg for brains at the mo.

it seems just my luck tho. it took 6 months to convince dh to ttc and now he has said yes my periods stop!!

hopefully it will happen without me obsessing about it but as soon as AF returns i will be jumping straight into the sperm meets egg plan and onto dh .

i would love to stay on the thread tho. dont evict me yet!!!

forces check your cervix... if its far back and hard to reach with lots of ewcm then go to c your dh. someone told me somewhere on 1 of these ttc threads you can tell when your ov by the position of your cervix. if its too gross for you then just go for it anyway. you never know

HeadFairy · 16/12/2008 19:32

bubblebell I think that was me who told you that. Forces, bubble's right, if your cervix is hard to reach, really high up, then I'd go for it tonight. It's always better to have sperm sitting there ready to go than miss ov!

bubblebell1 · 16/12/2008 19:44

oh yeah! (light bulb now goes on in bubbles head) i remember now head sorry

ForcesSweetheart · 16/12/2008 21:45

lol thanks for the cervix tip guys, but I can never reach my cervix at the best of times! I have really short fingers and apparently a really high cervix. When I was in labour with my DD they had to keep sending for this 6ft 2 amazonian woman with long fingers to check how dilated I was coz none of the midwives could reach it (sorry if tmi lol)! I didn't go see DH in the end, I decided to try and be patient. Now I'm unsure, as I've just done another ov test (4th today, as I read on another thread that the surge can last just a few hours and only testing once a day may mean missing it) and for the first time there was a very faint line. I know the instructions say the line has to be as dark or darker than the control line otherwise it's still a negative, but does the fact that I'm now getting a faint line when there was no line before mean the LH surge could already have happened? Or does the level of LH increase gradually before the actual surge - so it's likely to surge tomorrow now? I know, I know, I'm a pain in the a*se and probably obsessing way too much

littlepea72 · 16/12/2008 22:12

Forces its not easy to understand the silly things when you just start using them, ive been using them for about 2 yrs now & im just starting to understand! lol... you should find the line gets darker from now on untill you are ready to ov. But remember that they only tell you went its about to happen, it can be from 8-36 hrs after that you ov. I got really confused with them, and looking it up on the web didnt help, so i went and asked my doctor, he made alot of sence. I really hope i havent confused you!

ForcesSweetheart · 16/12/2008 22:19

No you haven't littlepea :-) Put my mind at ease actually. I was worried that seeing a faint line now might mean I had missed the surge in the few hours between my previous test (this afternoon) and this one (9pm). I've been googling too and found a study that seemed to show that in about half the women tested LH spiked rapidly, and half it increased gradually, so hopefully mine's on the upward slope. Thanks for being so patient with me! Persona was a lot easier - if I got a green light I went for it, no obsessing. If the cheapie ov sticks don't get us there in a few months might go back to the Persona, as we conceived DD on our 2nd month using it, after trying and failing for 16 months with no clue when was the right time.
Lis x

MoreThanChocolate · 16/12/2008 22:57

Today I read up on ovulation tests on www.peeonastick.com/. It was very interesting and informative so I'd recommend it. I didn't get a true positive this month and I got so stressed about it - thought I maybe wouldn't ovulate at all but then once my temp went up it followed the 2 strongest days on the test so I felt better and think I did ovulate afterall on day 21(got ewcm and ov pain also about the same time). Think I didn't test quite right as I didn't get the exact surge but I only tested once a day

Last week I had about 14 used ovulation tests lined up on my desk and had DH examine them with me!! He is very patient with me but we agreed there wasn't a true positive though two were close - then he encouraged me to throw them all away as it is a bit disgusting keeping them

As for waiting till friday to test - i lost my nerve this evening and for my trouble got a BFN - serves me right for being impatient
Still AF not due till friday so still hoping left to do this month yet

Sans04 · 17/12/2008 03:45

Hello
Thank you very much ladies for welcoming me, made me feel much better especially, it's so nice to have other people around who I can share this with.
actually I am driving myself creazy in this 2ww, it's only five dayse gone so far and I am just looking at the clock but the time is not going.
But now I've got a really lower back pain with a little bit of tummy pain what do you think is that lead to?
baby dut to all of you.

littlepea72 · 17/12/2008 07:39

Ive not been getting anywhere with the ov kits, so im just going to strap the hubby to the bed for a week! Hes not happy about it...but it has to be done!!
Morethan, naughty girl for trying so early lol...at least you have a good 3 days left to try.
Sans the 2ww is so long, it can drive you mad! Hang in there

olivo · 17/12/2008 08:20

Hello everyone. well, i'm coming to join you all properly if that is ok. BFN for me this morning it is a few days before i expect AF (i'm 13dpo)and temp is still high but with the symptoms i've been spotting, i had convinced myself of good news. all i can say is that if these are normal AF symptoms, it sucks ! I'd been on the pIll since i finshed bf dd and all i got were a couple of days light bleeding. now nausea, boobs like hell, dizziness - i'm not impressed!

TrixieBelden · 17/12/2008 08:23

So sorry to hear about irishmum's AF. Next month, fingers crossed.

What did you decide, Forcessweetheart? Morethanchocolate - can't blame you for testing early! Here's hoping it was just a bit too early.

Am scouring pg websites trying to remember how this conception lark works. It's sort of embarrassing how little I know, or at least how little I remember from last time. You know: the sperm lasts how long up there? Implantation happens when? It's slowly coming back to me, but I'll have to do opks next month if this month isn't a success, because all this guesswork is driving me bonkers.

On the bright side, my fertile time (given my cycle-length variations) is supposedly Sunday to Saturday, and we managed to BD on Sunday and Tuesday. So at least I feel like we're giving it a good shot. So to speak.

JumpingJellyfish · 17/12/2008 11:29

Good morning all, wow this thread is certainly moving on fast!
I'm out this month- AF arrived with a vengeance as predicted in the small hrs of this morning Stupidly I'm mightily disappointed...really felt we might have been lucky this month and with AF being 2-3 days later than the previous 3 cycles started to get my hopes up. Sounds like you're in the same boat irishmumwannabe- I'm sorry your AF came yesterday. Like you though I'm glad it means I can partake in a few festive drinks without worry!!

If you kind ladies don't mind I'd like to stick with this thread as beginning to get to "know" you all...and there's a good chace if I do manage it this month the baby would be due at the very end of Sept (and mine are usually early- not made it past 36 weeks yet!)

Determined this month to actually put more effort into trying, though have niggling worries as I'm sure we all do that something might not be "right" as I fell so easily before...

Forcessweetheart good luck with interpreting the OPKs! I have kept away from them so far as sound too complicated for me- but might resort to them soon! Hope your little visit to DH goes well!!

Morethanchocolate I don't blame you for testing early I've done it every cycle except last it's just too tempting- I'm totally sucked in by the "can detect pregnancy up to 4 days before period is due" marketing even though the actual stats show fairly few pregnancies are detectable even with sensitive tests this early....But I'm not that rational when TTC!!

Do you ladies think temping is any more helpful than monitoring EWCM? Have a very sensitive thermometer (ear one) at home so could go this way- haven't before- but not sure if it's worth the extra effort? Or just BD every other day between CD8 and CD17 and every day when getting EWCM?

Bubblebell good luck with the blood tests, hope you do manage to get the results just for peace of mind before xmas. Just enjoy BDing with no agenda!

Hi Olivo, nice to see you over here

at forces amazonian woman checking her cervix! Mine always drops right down after ov so it's pretty easy to know, but I can see how cervical positioning isn't such a great one for you! I've used opks before and when I've used the old fashioned analogue ones I used to get a faint line at first which gradually got darker until a peak and then was gone the next day, so I must be like you, a slow surger. I went out and bought a stash of digital opks last cycle as I was getting fed up of squinting at lines and just wanted a smiley face (which I got on cd15, like clockwork!) Much easier, but they are so expensive. I'm not buying any more after they're run out, I just wanted to see what my body was up to after pregnancy, a year of bfing and a miscarriage. Turns out, it's exactly the same as before all that!

Sorry about your bfn morethan, gotta sit on your hands for the next few days I hope it turns to a bfp on Friday!

Trixie, from what little I know, how long sperm survive up there depends on how much ewcm you have. The older you are the less you produce, and you need ewcm to allow the sperm to swim through and to protect the sperm from the acidity of the vagina. So it's a bit like saying how long is a piece of string. In prime conditions it's about 5 days, but more usually about 2 days. I think that's why they say bd every other day during your fertile period to ensure you always have a fresh supply hanging around for the egg. As far as implantation goes, most websites say 7-10 days after ov, but I'm less sure of that because both times I've been pg I've definitely felt very strong implantation pains about 3-4 days after ov. Maybe I have very short tubes, maybe it depends on the individual physiology. I'm sure someone with better information than me will be along soon!

Sans - hope the 2ww flies by for you, it's miserable isn't it? At least at this time of year you've got Christmas and New Year to distract you (hopefully )

cantwaitforxmas · 17/12/2008 11:55

Wow - I have been reading through this thread and realised how little I know about my own body/cycle . As we have just started ttc I was planning to just see what happens for a few months then try OPKs or temping if nothing happened but maybe it would be worth doing this now while I am still relaxed about it all? Who knows, maybe I'll be lucky this month and won't have to think about it .

I have been laughing at all the symptom spotting - I am the opposite. I am only on CD21 but I feel exactly the same as usual (no twinges or aches or anything) so I'm convincing myself that means we haven't been lucky. Crazy I know but can't help myself.

Sorry for the BFNs so far - I hope we all have BFPs to celebrate soon.

MoreThanChocolate · 17/12/2008 16:38

hi have been resisting symptom spotting today and also as per your advice HeadFairy sitting on hands not testing!

trying to convince myself there is no rush to concieve but since I'm 37 and DH is 43 we are at severe risk of being too old to understand the facebook/ipod's or whatever of our DC's generation at this rate - in fact facebook is a bit out of our league already though I hate to admit it

jumpingjellyfish sorry about the af re temperature taking -for me the downside of temping is that by definition you have to become a bit obsessive i.e. it has to be the first thing you remember as you wake up in the morning but the upside is that the rise does confirm (pretty much) that you ovulated so at least there is no need to obsess about that!
PS using an ear thermometer makes it quick and easy but if you sleep on one side don't put it in the ear you were lying on or you will get wacky temp chart!

be lucky x

HeadFairy · 17/12/2008 16:50

Well done morethan! Keep it up! You're most definitely not too old, I had my first at 37, and I still use facebook
