That's investigations.

MrsPuddleduck · 02/12/2008 11:17

Frosty - what a time you are having. Your SIL sounds vile. What on earth business is it of hers whether or not you work???? Is she jealous or something? Re the sperm test - DH has already done one - basically you get given a pot and a bag and are told to do the test at home and then drop it off at the hospital within 4 hours so there is no embarassment involved. If I were you I would say you want a consultants appointment requested now, that way if it takes 6 weeks that will fit in nicely after Christmas (which will hopefully take your mind off ttc a bit anyway) rather than request one in January and it not come through until the end of Feb

Mandy73 · 02/12/2008 13:25

Frosty your SIL is soooooo jealous.
Best revenge = living well.

DawnAS · 02/12/2008 15:26

Hi All,

Well, back from the CVS test after deciding to go through with it.

I discussed my NT results with the Consultant first of all and apparently, with the scan alone, my risk was 1:734 for Downs. The bloods were 1:35 which gave me an overall risk of 1:59. With Trisomy 18 my combined risk was 1:7924 and Trisomy 13 the risk was 1:1823. So it's the Downs risk that they are worried about.

My PAPP-A is 0.27 MoM and my HCG is 1.08 MoM. I'm not quite sure what any of that means, but what they did say was that I would need to have more frequent growth-scans as a low PAPP-A can mean a small baby. Strangely enough (for those that believe), that clairvoyant said to me that doctors aren't always right. They may tell me that my baby is too small but it will be fine. Quite spooky really since she said it before I was pregnant...

So I'm really really hoping the result comes back as negative for Downs... We should get that result on Friday and the rest in about 2-3 weeks...

Thanks for all your lovely thoughts and prayers. If anyone knows anything about what the blood results mean, I'd be grateful to hear!!

The test itself wasn't too bad and the slight crampy feeling has virtually gone and I haven't needed to take any painkillers. The MW said that I didn't necessarily need bed-rest, but just to put my feet up and relax for the rest of today. Wouldn't want to have that done again though - ouch!!

xxxx

DawnAS · 02/12/2008 15:36

Forgot to say, the Consultant that performed the test has been doing one CVS a week for 5 years and has NEVER had any miscarriages!! I was really encouraged by that!!

xxx

detoxdiva · 02/12/2008 15:51

Dawn - hope you can try and relax a bit now until the results come it. I don't know anything about CVS but here's hoping all is well and there was just some strange unexplained business with the bloods that have affected your risk factor. Will be thinking of you over the coming days. Glad you are feeling ok and the procedure wasn't too bad - good news about the consultants stats though - sounds like you got a good one there

MrsPuddleduck · 02/12/2008 16:28

Really happy for you Dawn - hope all of your other results are as good!

Had blood test here.

Just happened to pop into see health visitor about DS2's lack of weight (he went back on his anti-acid drugs last week ) and he hasn't put any weight on since his 2 year check 9 months ago I have to try and "feed him up" now he is back on his medication and then take him for another weigh in the week before Christas

It never rains eh?

Mandy73 · 02/12/2008 16:33

Dawn sounds like things went really well. Well done you!

Your blood results are more than 50% 'better' than mine and me + baby are really well so far. As to when they mean, well, once the risk of chromosome abnormalities have been excluded about 40% of cases are absolutely fine. The 'dodgy values' are never explained.
It should also be said (although no medical person will admit to it - I know it from FIL who is a biochemistry prof.) that these blood tests are notoriously unstable and have a huge rate of 'false positives' - but rather that than false negatives hey?
In 60% of cases however the dodgy values seem to spell some placenta/circulation/blood pressure issues later in the PG - all which can lead to pre-eclampsia, small baby, all of that. Often stuff that can be dealt with very well as and when.

frosty Loving the new name hun.....I've been a busy little bee over the weekend and I never stopped after work yesterday, today I got a regular client back and I was there ages !! ( Im a home carer, not a prostitute !!! ) so when I came in and seen DH on the sofa with the dog and the fire on full, I took myself to bed as I was in a hell of a moody !! Monthly pains doing my head in.....Not his fault I know, but Im better on my own when feeling that way, he has now gone to the gym with our son.
My DH is taking something for his sperm count and mobility which he gets from the gym, if you want the name I can ask him ? He only just started on it recentley and with me on my second course of fertilaid, my hopes are high.....maybe too high but time will tell....

DawnAS Been reading the messages and trying to understand whats going on in everyones lives.... I cried when I read yours, hope things go well...much love xx

Hello to all the other girlies, hope everyone is well

juanitad · 02/12/2008 17:16

Hi all,

MW came today and Patrick has put on an ounce and a half, yippee! It's so weird to think that something like that would get me all excited, but it does! Motherhood has definitely changed my priorities! Dawn, I'm glad you're feeling positive after your test today, it sounds like it went really well.

Not much else to report here. Geting excited now about the next bonkers baby to arrive - keep us updated majormoo!

FrostyTheSnowman · 02/12/2008 17:28

Dawn-so pleased you had the CVS done today. Now just the wait until Friday and you should try and rest as much as you can-no heavy lifting.

Dawni-I did laugh at your post because I immediately thought your job sounded interesting Can't see my DH taking or doing anything to help his troups. He thinks that as he has performed well in the past nothing should have changed. May need to take action in this department in the New Year. I really want to enjoy the build up to Christmas and have wine and nuts then as soon as January comes it will be back on the diet and full steam ahead with the TTC but secretly hoping I might fall this month. Would be a September baby so wouldn't go to school until 5 unlike my girls who have to go at 4 and 2 months and 4 and 1 month. When are you weeing on those OPK sticks? I am starting on CD 6 so I don't miss anything-going to cost a fortune.

Willmouse-is he very underweight? Thing is, you can't force feed children can you? Also, should you be giving him high fat food to feed him up. So, so difficult for you. {{hugs}}

Have been wrapping again, nearly finished.

Laters!

DawnsAS thank goodness the test is over. I do not know about the bloods but the risks sound really good to me so things are looking positive. Assuming the CVS comes back clear of chromosonal problems which sounds very likely, you will get lots of scans etc throughout your pregnancy now which could be very reassuring.

Frosty agree with the others-SIL DEFINITELY jealous.

Juanitad glad to hear Patrick is doing well.

Dawni well glad you clarified your job!!
Willmouse hope things work out OK with your DS. Quite hard to make them eat if they are not keen.

Ceebee-a bit of bad behaviour has to be expected-though it is still infuriating. Plus two year olds anyway can be a real handful. I am preparing myself for some serious tantrums from my DS once the baby arrives.

MJIM hope you had a good time.

No action here yet. My other two were late so not expecting anything for a while yet.

Dawni · 02/12/2008 20:06

frosty was gonna start testing on the 8th (day10)but might start a little earlier just incase, I nearly missed it last month !!! Worst thing was I couldnt help but laugh cause I really wasnt in the mood and I had a blinding headache !! Never mind, got the job done
By the way, my job is interesting at times......

Im a celebs on soon, off to wash my hair !

Dawn - glad the cvs went well. I was thinking of you all day. I have everything crossed for your results now. It all sounds very complicated but you seem like you have understood it all.

Juanitad - Patrick is gorgeous!!! He's so fair! And yey for him putting on weight - you did that!!! What's it like being a Mummy then? I am so excited but have so long to wait still!

Forgot to say welcome to dawni - you sound like an interesting character!

Waves to everyone xxxx

PS. Hope MJIM had a good first date with her DH!

MrsPuddleduck · 03/12/2008 09:28

Hello!

Frosty - I am very that you have nearly finished your wrapping. My bright idea to store all the presents in the loft has backfired somewhat . As for DS2 - they haven't told me to feed him high fat foods just to see how he goes - he limped his way through spaghetti and meatballs yesterday with extra grated cheese on top and only ate half The boy just doesn't fancy eating much (unless it's chocolate/cakes).

Dawni - what is fertilaid and is it supposed to work? Am tempted to try anything come the new year....

CE - glad you're ok

Juanitad - well done on Patrick's weight gain! Most babies lose a little I think so you must be doing something right!

Hello to everyone else !

Dawni · 03/12/2008 10:54

Goodmorning ladies... Im home on a tea break for an hour...My sickly feeling has gone but seen as though the matchmakers were buy one get one free I may feel sick again later LOL !!!!

frosty I must admit I dont think I would like to offer a sample were I a male, It cant be easy I suppose ! You could always get dressed up and pose for him ?? Or am I just freaky ......Dont answer that xx

Willmouse Hello hun...I came across fertilaid by accident and after 13 years of on/off TTC I will also give anything ago, It is full of all the supplements you need when TTC, they say you should take 3 months supply for it to really work well....It should stimulate your ovaries to work at the correct time and also regulate your period, I've just finished my first month so cant tell you much, but it did sort my period, only problem was because I have always had a 25 day cylce, I thought I was late and the deed was done !!! Not to worry, lots more baby making to do this month eh .
If you google fertilaid and read through the success stories it will fill you with hope, it did for me, I also invested in pre-seed lubricant as this does not kill sperm like normal lube or saliva !! Both of these you can buy cheaper on ebay, the pre-seed helps sperm swim easier to their destination.

(hope this helps a little)

Right, now Ive got blisters on my finger tips from typing, Im off back to work, my oldies will be ready for the loo and lunch by the time I get driven back in the ice (bbrrrr)

D xx

MrsPuddleduck · 03/12/2008 13:03

DS2 has managed 1/3 of a saugage and one and a half baby sweetcorn for lunch, followed by 3/4 of an apple

Anyone got any ideas?????

Mandy so glad your scan went well and you?re getting such great care after all you?ve been through.

CE - gorgeous pictures. You look so slender and elegant. My bump sticks out so much now that people are starting to ask whether it?s twins, and someone I hadn?t seen for two weeks asked ?what on earth happened? when she saw me yesterday. I refrained from drawing a diagram. I swear it?s sticking out so much because I?m short-waisted, I?m not fat, honest . Sorry you?ve been ill, by the way. It?s just horrid being ill when pg, isn?t it? Everything seems to feel so much worse.

Dawn - Wow, what a rollercoaster you?ve had, hon. It sounds as though things are a lot more positive now, though, and that you are hanging there. Hope you get to complete on your new place soon. I think it?ll make a huge difference once you?re in your lovely new home, too. Interesting about the clairvoyant ? and comforting too, I?m sure.

Knax you must have been terrified, and sooo relieved. Very happy for you.

Juanitad - Congratulations . Hope you?re recovering well and enjoying your lo.

BSL - a tortoise! How adorable. They are so fab ? I used to just watch our neighbours one for hours when I was a kid. Loving the new name

myjob ? thanks for the good wishes So glad all well with you and lovely DCs and that you had a fun time with DH.

Sparky - ooh, I?m feeling all uncertain now, especially after dan?s experience, too. I?m meeting up with some local MN mums-to-be tonight in Blackheath, and someone on the thread also recommended a local independent mw?s classes. Also have my 24-week mw appointment next Tuesday, when I?ll find out about the NHS classes. I will have another chat with DH this weekend, and make a decision next week, I think (always supposing I?m not now too late to join an NCT class). I did suddenly have a big wobble yesterday about both DH and I not being well prepared enough? So much to think about [nervous emoticon].

herby - hope all OK with you.

Frosty - Ugh about your SIL. That?s one hell of an attitude!

In the Daisy household things are finally settling down. The flat is starting to look beautiful, and it makes the last six months of stress and misery feel worthwhile. So good to have a proper home at last . Now things are more organized I will get DH to do 24-week pics this weekend, and post them, and you can all tell me whether you think I?m abnormally huge for my dates (which I absolutely know are correct). I?m worried I?ll have a whopper ? I?m only little and I?m getting a bit nervous. Babies in our family and DH?s generally tend to be 6-7 pounds, but he was over 8.5 and had a very big head (gulp). His mum?s my size and had to have a cs with him.

to everyone I?ve missed (and apologies for epic post!)

ceebee74 · 03/12/2008 20:26

Evening all

Daisy lovely to hear from you and what a mammoth post!! Don't worry about looking big - the baby will be the size it is and there is nothing you can do about it! I was huge and got all the 'twins' comments etc - obviously Sam was a big baby at 9lb 4, but the surgeon also commented that there was a lot more water than normal so being big could be for a number of reasons

MJIM so glad you had a good night!! It is nothing less that you deserve Am v as me and DH haven't had a night out since Josh was born 2 and a half years ago

Willmouse I completely sympathise about your DS - Josh has the appetite of a sparrow most of the time and what your DS ate for lunch would probably be double what Josh eats most days!! But again, he seems to be able to devour chocolate and cake without any problem No advice about putting on weight as I am sure you don't want to pump him full of crap but I am not sure what the answer is.

Will post more later - Sam is crying for a feed so need to go.

Knax · 03/12/2008 20:39

So glad to hear the CVS went well Dawn, and thinking of you friday!
Glad your date was fun MJIM!
HC you're confusing in a pseudonym! Glad you still sign as HC.
Waves to everyone else......

Ended up in A and E at the weekend with some scary-looking bleeding, but it stopped fairly quickly and they didn't know the cause so i went home in the end. Thought I'd have a scan then but they said they don't do them at the weekend, so I'm still waiting for friday.
Don't know what to think now but just waiting for fri.
knax xx
