Hi all,

Hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. I am slowly settling in to life as a mum - and starting to get used to life without much sleep! Think I have the breastfeeding sorted now, I can get him latched on now by myself, hooray, as there is no midwife constantly on call at home like there was in the hospital! It does sometimes take me a few goes, but I'm getting there, so that's a relief. Could I ask you ladies with babies when he will be weighed again? I have a visit from the midwife tomorrow and then the health visitor will be coming at some point in the next few days, and I wondered if he will be weighed at either of those visits. Anyway, all in all I have to say the first weekend has gone pretty well, but I don't know if he is lulling us into a false sense of security with all the sleeping he is doing.....who knows what he might be like in another few weeks!!

Sorry to those who've had AF turn up in the last few days, good luck to majormoo (I'm guessing another bonkers baby must be imminent now), hope all the other bonked bonkers are looking after themselves and their beans. To the TTCers, I'm going to keep everything I have crossed that this month is your month and to the time outers - hope you are enjoying some chilling out time!

Morning all!! Sorry I have been away for a couple of days. We had a busy weekend. DH ge-grouted the bathroom and then we put all the christmas decorations up yesterday!

Juanitad - I can't remember whether or not I said congrats! So I've said it again. I love his name!

HC - get that appointment booked! I would say it will make you feel better, but possibly not - I will fill you in below!

Ceebee - glad Sam is managing to "catch some rays!" LOL - hope he is feeling better.

Dawn - good luck for today.

BSL - were you talking about the day 21 test? We can be guniea pigs together!

MJIM - well done on updating the stats - I am nearly back in the bonkers zone and feel really excited!

Well I was at my consultants appointment. I had convinced myself that I had endometriosis and for some reason thought I would just be put down for a bit of laser surgery or something.....but no..... aparently it is a last resort and now DH and I have to go through a catalogue of tests . My next appointment is at the end of Feb and in that time I've got to have a progesterone 21 day test to see if I am releasing and egg, DH has got to have a sperm test (in 6-8 weeks) and then I have to have a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) which I think is a dye test and x-ray. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing but am glad that DH and I have decided that as soon as Jan comes we are going for it big style on the ttc front (we haven't been trying that hard so far).

Sorry it was a bit mamoth. I will add myself to the list now!

Sorry - last message was from me!

DawnAS · 01/12/2008 10:37

Hello all,

Well, I'm sure I must have done something wrong in a previous life since, after getting through the weekend Ok, the hospital called this morning to say that the Consultant is off sick today with a cold...

They have rebooked me in for the same time tomorrow and will call me first thing if she is still no better and will rearrange again.

I was sick with nerves this morning and now I'm just numb... But I guess on the other hand, I would rather she was 100% at her best than the risk that she might sneeze during the test!! I am starting to wonder though whether this is someone telling me I shouldn't be having the test...

Frosty, loving the new name and it helped me feel a bit happier with it being 1st December. Normally I love Xmas and would have been playing my Xmas music by now, but I just can't feel into it yet... Not until I know if my little one is going to be OK.

MrsP, how annoying when you think you're almost there and then you find out that there's still more to be done. What a pain!!

Juanitad, well done on the breast-feeding!! My two sisters only managed it for two weeks so I'm not sure how well I'll do, but you can only try!! Sounds like you're doing really well though - yay!!

Thanks all for your warm thoughts and I'll be taking them with me tomorrow. I was thinking of things to distract myself while they're doing the test (I'm sure those of you who have been through it will be thinking that nothing will work, but at least it gives me something to concentrate on), so I've decided to try and remember all your names, with all the correct spellings!! That way I'll be thinking of you all!! I won't be looking at the screen either, I've decided, I've asked DH to though, but I don't want to see it...

Me
xx

MrsPuddleduck · 01/12/2008 10:43

Dawn that is awful .

This daft HSG test has to be done on CD14 so you phone of the first day AF arrives and they 'try' and book you in that month Well, I am CD16 atm - so by my calculations I will be phoning the hospital and trying to arrange a HSG between Christmas and New Year - this is exactly what happened to me last time (with DS1) and I remember being hysterical when they couldn't fit me in. Fortunately I don't feel that bad this time - still a bloody pain though!

DawnAS · 01/12/2008 10:50

Oh Willmouse, why does it all always happen at Xmas time. I'm keeping everything crossed that you get the appointment that you need - how awful that you only get one chance a month! Even when you are TTC you get a few days a month when it might work!! That just seems mad!!

I guess the only thing is that so many people are going through bad times this Xmas, all we can do is support each other and know that people are thinking of you.

xxx

MrsPuddleduck · 01/12/2008 10:58

This thread is fantastic - it keeps me going through bad times and good.

There are quite a few going through bad times at the moment - I would feel like a fraud including myself - my problems are (so far) insignificant in comparison.

DawnAS · 01/12/2008 11:07

Willmouse, Your problems and concerns are still yours though and as important as anyone elses because they mean the world to you. So they mean the world to us.

Let's hope for as wonderful a Xmas as it can be for everyone on here. About time MN but some Xmas hats on the smileys me thinks!!

xxx

MrsPuddleduck · 01/12/2008 11:18

Could do with some more Christmas cheer - I'm surprised the hats aren't about yet. I am trying to think of some Christmas decorations for the children to make - my aim is to get our house looking like a grotto!

We have three trees up in our house this year!!1 . DS1 said to me this morning "Mummy, why have we got three christmas trees?" to which I replied "because we can!"

DawnAS · 01/12/2008 11:27

Ahhh, that sounds lovely "Willmouse". We can't put any up yet because we still don't have a date to move house and we were due to complete last Friday. So the house is full of boxes so we have no space for a tree .

We had to root through all the boxes to find our advent calendars and we never did find the one for the dog, so she's having to share the cat's!!

Is it too much to ask to move AND have a healthy baby in time for Xmas - I hope not.

xxx

MrsPuddleduck · 01/12/2008 11:34

Moving house is so stressful! I used to be a conveyancing solicitor and have thankfully given it up! Are you hopefull for this Friday? I used to hate having to tell people that completion had been delayed, especially at this time of year - the busiest Friday of the year for Conveyancing is the Friday before Christmas (just in case you were wondering lol!) - hopefully it wont come to that!

BlueStarOverBethlehem · 01/12/2008 11:49

Morning all,

HC or should I say Frosty! You've inspired me to a nice Christmas name change too!

Willmouse - yes, we can hand hold through all these tests. I got my 21P test results today and they were 53...so within the correct range of 30-80. Yay!!!!I need to go back to the GP and request all the other tests before our consultant appointment, which is still to be confirmed!

Dawn - Hun, I'm so sorry about today!! But you're right about wanting her to be on top form and not sick. Like you say, wait and see how you feel about her MC rates etc. and take it from there.

Juanitad - it's lovely to hear you are settling down and enjoying being a mum!! I am a little envious. But not so much about the lack of sleep!

Myjob - mammoth post!! I hope you and DH have a lovely meal out together tonight!

Big waves to everyone else!! and an update from me on the stats.

Hi there,

Happy to hear things are mostly well and spirits high.
Lots of love to everyone.

Just a flying visit and some words for Dawn:
I'm aching with you - getting bumped like that is awful. Had a similar thing happening to us as they couldn't do the CVS (abdominally or vaginally) and then when we came back for the amnio the lovely consultant who promised to do it was off with a bad back. I'm sorry to say I freaked out when a v young registrar was assigned to perform the thing and initially I refused & cried until a lovely MW & DH sat with me and made me see sense - the pressure of the wait and nerves and expectations just made me break down. Turned out he was amazing, v steady and actually physically made a barrier with his fingers to hold the baby away from the needle in case it would wriggle. DH watched the whole thing but I just focused on being super calm. Did not see the needle go in & didn't feel it either. Just slightly sore & crampy afterwards, like I had done loads of sit-ups. I didn't eat much beforehand as my baby seems to get v wriggly just after I do.

OK, so my nuchal scan was fine. Fold was on the thick side at 2,7, but our baby is big overall and a MW said unless it's over 4 she wouldn't worry. The heart looked OK but there were doubts about the nasal bone. We tried not to dwell or double guess too much - it just drives you nuts - but I must say with our odds we did prepare for the worst. The odds were all based on my freaky blood test in w 9 - the PAPP-A hormone was extremely low which is often - but far from always - an indicator of something being not quite right. There are many theories of why PAPP-A could be low without it meaning that the baby has a chromosomal issue; early bleeding (I had that...), if the baby is a boy, diet, genetic heritage, being prone to pre-eclampsia later... I know it's really hard not to think about it too much but please do try. We have tried to look for answers and had many discussions with MWs & consultants but they all say: "Don't speculate, let's look at facts and keep a close eye on you so that we can exclude any issues as soon as possible as the PG progresses." Sensible but not easy.
Big hugs & positive vibes for you & DH for tomorrow. Relax, try to stay neutral & open minded to what may come. You are stronger than you think and any detachment this experience brings will be erased in the future - it just takes a little while.
xx

DawnAS · 01/12/2008 12:16

Mandy, thank you so much for your post. It's given me real food for thought. I still remain encouraged by our scan as the fold was 1.9 and the nasal bone was clearly visible and I'm almost hoping that we never know what might have caused the bloods and that everything else turns out to be OK.

I was just chatting to my friend who's just had her second baby boy. Her first one went to the dentist last week (he's coming up for three) and the dentist asked if he'd been on any medication as a baby, which he hadn't. Because one of his teeth had absolutely no enamel on it at all!! So basically, it will just rot away. No test could have picked that up!! So it just goes to show that there can be things in the future that we will never know and I've decided that if the initial result comes back as negative for Downs, I'm going to put the rest of my faith in God that everything will be OK and try not to dwell too much... Hard as it may be. But apparently with children the worry never stops and by the end of this pregnancy I'll be well practiced I'm sure!!

Thanks again Mandy, you've all been such a massive support through this difficult time.

xxxx

PS: Now to think of a Xmassy name for me!!

Hi everyone

Just to let you know I am still alive! I have had Flu I think and have been in bed from wednesday til yesterday! Was pretty horrid but I made it back to work today.

I'm so sorry Dawn I wasn't around to offer you support through what must have been an awful weekend. You are being so strong and all the advice given has been fantastic. I am hoping and praying that all goes well tomorrow and that you get your results quickly. Just remember that although your odds seem high, there is still a massive chance that all will be well. Huge hugs for you xxxxxx

Sorry to hear that AF arrived for HC and DD

Hope all the babies are well - they sound it!

I promise to try and post a bit more this week now I am feeling better (pip is fine btw and very active!!)

Dawn sorry to hear you have to wait until tomorrow. Really hope all is OK.

MJIM enjoy your night out

Willmouse here's hoping you do not need all the tests and some serious effort in January works!!

Juanitad glad the feeding is going well now. I can't remember how often they weigh babies when they visit. The midwife does it at least once I think before they hand over.

All fine here-baby is due on Sunday so I am feeling like a weeble wobbling around the place.

FrostyTheSnowman · 01/12/2008 21:29

Busy lot.

Dawn-that is rotten making you wait another day.

Am hoping to see the Dr tomorrow but ew, Willmouse, that is some testing.

Anyway, must watch Spooks, have been at SIL's all day and she was v. negative about me wanting another baby.

'Til tomorrow and I can catch up properly.

Sending lots of positive vibes to Dawn.

V busy with some pre-Xmas deadlines here, baby seems OK , house smells of hyacinths, DH may be telling at work today.

Lots of love to everyone.

Dawn - really hope you have managed to get your appointment today - I really feel for you having it cancelled Lots of positive vibes for you today.

MJIM how was your evening? I bet you had a great time and Naomi slept all evening!!

Juanitad glad Patrick is ok. As for weighing him, the MW usually weigh him at each visit (they come for about a week after you have been discharged from hospital) and then the HV will weigh him a couple of times - after that, it is up to you to take him to a clinic if you want him to be weighed. With Josh, I took him weekly at first and then every other week - but that was mainly to get out of the house and speak to someone

Willmouse sorry you are having to go through the tests - and definitely bad timing at Christmas. I guess it will all be worth it in the end.

Majormoo any news????

Frosty ignore your SIL - probably jealous or whatever. It is your life and your children - and having 3 children is hardly unusual is it??

All well here - Sam is definitely better. MW coming today (if the snow is not putting her off) to weigh him so fingers crossed he has put weight on since last Thursday.

Josh is proving a bit of a challenge though - he is very caring towards Sam (if a bit over-enthusiastiv) which is obviously good - but his tantrumming/constant whinging about everything has increased - not sure if it is just his age or because of Sam - either way, he is testing mine and DH's patience!!!

Have a good day

MrsPuddleduck · 02/12/2008 10:23

Hi all.

Dawn - hope all goes well for you today.

Frosty - hope you got an appointment with Dr - you will feel better once you get the ball rolling!

Ceebee - - glad that Sam is better

MJIM - hope you had a lovely time last night.

Majormoo - can't belive your due date is almost here! Any twinges yet?

CE - glad you are feeling better.

BlueStar - I got my referal through in about 6 weeks - could have been less. The NHS target is 8 I think.

Well, I'm off for my 21 day test today which is only effective if your cycle is less than 30 days so if AF does not arrive by next Thursday it will have to be repeated next month and I will have to request two tests one at 21 days and one at 28 days. I am seriously considering cutting out the middle man and just asking if I can go back next week for another. My cycles are quite often more than 30 days and whilst I don't mind waiting until end of Feb for my next consultants appointment, I will top myself if the tests etc are not back and I have to go back at an even later date.

Hi to everyone I missed - hope you all have a good day and that you have some snow!!!

BlueStarOverBethlehem · 02/12/2008 10:58

Morning all!!

Brrrr...it's cold here!

Willmouse - wow...I didn't know we might get a referral through so quick! We haven't heard anything yet, but it's only been a couple of weeks. As for the 21day test, I was told it needs to be roughly 7 days after you OV, but can be + or - a couple of days if that helps at all.

Dawn - thinking of you this morning!! hope it goes okay whatever decision you make!

Myjob - how was your night out?? And were you ok about little Naomi?

Ceebee - sorry you are having a hard time with Josh. It's probably just that it's a change for him. I hope it settles down soon!

Mandy - how exciting about your DH telling work!! I am so happy for you guys that things are going well now! And you reminded me I didn't get any hyacinths...

Frosty - how are you today?? have you managed to see your GP yet? And I'm sorry about your SIL being negative. I don't understand why people judge other peoples decisions about stuff like this. It's a personal choice.

CE - yuck about the flu...it's so much worst when you can't just take some flu capsules and feel a little better. Glad you're over the worst of it now!

Majormoo - yay!! more babies!! And signs yet of your LO wanting to make an appearance?

Big waves to everyone!!

BSOB x

FrostyTheSnowman · 02/12/2008 11:03

Well, went to the Drs but need to make a double appointment for 'ivestigations' and so does DH which is clearly not going to happen methinks. DH is at another surgery so that makes things awkward. Sooo, will wait until the new year. AF due Christmas Day but it won't be as my cycles are erratic. The Dr said you normally try for 2 years before testing but at my age I can be investigated. Will speak to DH about his seminal testing.

Good luck Willmouse-be interesting to follow you testing so I know what may lie in store for me.

Dawn-let us know how you got on and put your feet up afterwards.

Dawni-where are you. Get thee on here and chat.

Majormoo-not long now.

My mum must have told my dad about the baby plans as he was happily dicussing what SIL had said so all is well and my dad isn't going to disown me. SIL said FGS you will be 50 when they are 10 and who is going to look after them when you go to work? (She has an obssession about me going back to work BTW) She said I can't rely on my mum as it isn't fair then I said MIL would never refuse the DC SIL said she won't be able to cope. What?????? Then she said it was nothing to do with her and she didn't need to hear all this and she wouldn't have been surprised if I announced I was PG anyway. I didn't see anything wrong in telling her and I did it when she was doing her get a job speech so told her not until I have had another baby. Later on I wondered if it was because her and Bro might have to buy 3 lots of presents but my friend is due No 3 and I will be buying 3 lots and her only 2 but it doesn't bother me.

Am waffling now so will catch you all later. Big festive wave!
