Hey Bubbap,

What make of test did you use? I have to admit that I bought some cheap ones off of ebay but they seemed to work Ok. I got a BFP at only 11DPO, 3 days before AF was due. But some people haven't got a BFP until they're about 6 weeks pregnant.

I would recommend one of the Clearblue Digital ones, both Summer and I used those and they were really good. But then we got ours free, I think they might be quite pricey... But give it a couple of days and try another test.

I really hope you are PG hun - a great pressie for the New Year!!

Hi Guys can anyone help me with this, i am really baffled. I am also going to as in pregnancy but you guys sually have good advice and info here

I have been doing a lot of reading about my situation to help me understand what is happening and prepare me either way. I am very glad i have. There is such huge variation in the way they date pregnancy and make decisions on what is viable. Obviously sometimes it clear what is happening, but not always.

Anyway the things that are confusing me are;

  1. I was dated at 5+5weeks. However my gestational sac was 19mm. From what i have read a 19mm sac suggests a date of around 6+5 not 5+5. Does anyone know what their sac size was at this stage, could i have been dated wrong.
  1. I have been looking at my dates and IF DP's sperm survived 5 days and i ov'd much later than i thought despite thinking i had ov pain a week before i could adjust my date so that i was 7+2 when i went for my scan. This would mean though that i had an extremely faint BFP at only 5DPO, unlikely but possible. It waouild also explain my early low HCG levels. My question is, obviously i don't know how long i took to implant. Does the time it takes to implant affect your dates, presumable embryo development can't begin until implantation has happened. This could close the gap in my dates, but would mean i got my BFP before i implanted - is that been possible??

I also think that i have a tilted uterus but need to ask about this at my next scan as i can't be certain.

If my assumptions about this are correct then it may just still be too early to see the fetal pole and things can be ok.

I realise i am just guessing and need to wait until the scan but i find it easier to cope if i can explain things. I have gone from thinking it was all over to possibly coming up with a plausible explanation for what is happening giving me enough hope to get through the weks and a half wait.

Thanks for reading and i really would appreciate your thoughts - hope i don't sound to much like an obsessive derranged preggers woman

DawnAS · 11/01/2009 18:49

Hi Fairy,

I'm not completely sure on all your questions, but I know that they take the dating from the first day of your last AF, so if you have longer cycles or don't OV on day 14, you could easily be looking at a different stage of PG.

Also, when I went to the EPU at what I thought was 5 weeks, my sac was only 2mm!!! So 19mm is a lot more than mine was and I thought was about normal.

If you are less than 6 weeks, it would be quite difficult to see a heartbeat aswell, which might explain why they couldn't find it.

So has the bleeding stopped? Did you have to have another blood test so that they can check whether your HCG levels were rising? I hope they did that as that's the best way to tell how the PG is progressing. Apparently (according to my experience) your HCG levels should double in 48 hours to show that the PG is moving along as it should.

Keeping everything crossed for you hun!!

xxx

fairywing · 11/01/2009 21:31

Thanks Dawn
Yes bleeding seems to have stopped now. They won't do HCG levels, i have asked twice now. They say they won't tell us enough at this stage

Whatever is going on i can't be less than 5 weeks unless i got a BFP before i was actually pregnant! Sounds like my gestational sac is measuring closer to what i am despite what they told me at the scan so the dates are not the issue really, ths issue is that there was no fetal pole or heartbeat at about 7 weeks which does not bode well. Hope the next week doesn't drag too much, i just want this all to be over now so that i can move on and get excited again about TTC instead of feeling this terrible sadness every day

summerbird · 11/01/2009 21:50

fairy you must be so confused hun, i dont know what my measurements were so i cant help with your questions but i am just sad that the hospital have left you to go and browse the internet and read books to find out what is going on. I want this to work out well so much for you, and am pleased to hear the bleeding has stopped. Hang on in there until your next scan (which must seem like months away!). But i am secretly hopeful for you.

Bubba definitely go for the clearblue digital, as Dawn has said, she and I got ours free but buy one and only use it when you are almost sure you could be PG. The cheap Boots ones were rubbish! Good luck bubbs, this could be your month

Big waves to everyone else! xx

BubbaP · 12/01/2009 17:52

Hi girls

Well... I'm not PG Did another clearblue PG test yesterday and got another BFN and then AF arrived this morning - almost a week late. Not sure why I would be so late, but maybe my AFs haven't settled down after the MC yet.

In a way I'm relieved because at least I know where I am now, but also sad because I was totally convinced I was PG last week.

Fairy glad to hear that the bleeding has stopped and keeping everything crossed for you that you're going to be OK. Also hoping this week goes quickly for you.

Thanks Dawn and Summer for your advice & support, as ever.

Hope all the other girls out there are OK... anyone on the 2WW?

HolyGuacamole · 12/01/2009 18:17

Hi,

Can I join in? Have been following this thread with a lot of interest. Decided on
Sunday to ttc. Last AF was on 22nd Dec so next one will be in about 6-9 days (I think). Am just learning about all this Ovulation business so forgive me, I've not been keeping track till now What else? Oh yeah, I'm 33, almost 34.

Vix67 · 12/01/2009 18:40

Hi Ladies

Fairy hope ur OK and times not dragging too much for you.

Bubbap sorry about your BFN

Holyguacomole welcome to the lovely world of ttc!! Lets hope ur not here too long , in a nice way

I'm on the dreaded 2WW aaahhh. It's my last month on clomid too, but i am now on day 23 and am starting to get AF cramps . My boobs are killing me but that could be because of AF too. I have my next hospital appointment in a few weeks so hopefully they will refer me for IVF or at least let me know what will happen next!!

BIG HELLO to everyone else, hope you're all OK!!

xx

DawnAS · 12/01/2009 19:09

Hello all,

Welcome Holyguacamole - love the name by the way!! This is a lovely thread. Some of us are already PG but we like to stick around with all you TTCers because this thread is one of the friendliest on MN and we want to be here when you all get your BFPs!! You're much like I was. I was only just 34 when I started on this thread. I didn't have a clue that all the ovulation stuff was so hard - you never learn about that in school!!

Bubbap, sorry it wasn't your month this month hun. My AF after the MC came a week early, so I do know that it takes a little while for your cycles to settle down... Fingers crossed for next month though!!

Fairy, hope things are Ok with you hun. How long to go now before your next scan? Try and keep positive hun. It's a good sign that the bleeding stopped, it didn't with me!!

Hello to everyone else!!

We had two bits of lovely news today. The first is that we got the final all-clear from the amnio. Then we found out the sex...

IT'S A GIRL!!!!! We're both so thrilled!!!! I really thought it was going to be a boy, which would have been lovely, but I was still secretly hoping for a girl so it was a wonderful surprise!! ON Saturday night we bought a few baby clothes, mostly in neutral colours, but DH did pick up a lovely outfit that has some blue in it. But tonight he took it back to change it for something pink - I haven't seen it yet as he was changing it on his way to work - but I can't wait to see something in pink now!!

DH is working 2pm until 10pm this week and I'm a bit freaked out TBH. We live in a village not far from Channings Wood Prison and for the last few nights, there've been helicopters searching for something, I've got a horrid feeling that it might be an escaped prisoner... So I'm keeping all the doors locked while I'm here on my own, thank goodness for my doggy!!

So, who is on the 2ww at the moment, we'd like some 2009 BFPs please!!!

xxx

summerbird · 12/01/2009 19:45

Hi

bubba sorry about your BFN it is rubbish when you get your hopes up as i did every month, i just had a good bubble then did all the things i cant now do when PG. ie get bladdered and eat smoked salmon and brie!!

and a big welcome to holyguacamole i agree that is a fab funky name! i am 35 and started trying almost a year ago and am 20 weeks PG now. I am staying on this thread as i want to keep up with all the lovely ladies on here, we have all been through a few ups and downs and are all here for eachother. Also ask any questions you like - it would be good for this thread to get back onto the TTC advice, and go through the is she/isnt she pondering that we do!!

Dawn!!! a little mini-dawn how fabulous! 2009 is certainly bringing you some good news. Are you going to tell everyone in RL? You must be soooo excited

We have our 20 week scan tomorrow and have decided that we are not quite ready to find out the gender, although Dawn's news has got me thinking whether we should! i shall report back tomorrow!

DH and i decided what he is going to cook for me when the baby is born - ie when i can eat all of the forbidden foods - I cant wait!! Here is the menu:

Camapes - Smoked Salmon and cream cheese
Starters - Warm camembert and crusty bread followed by smoked mackerel pate
Main - a huge juicy medium rare steak with blue cheese sauce
Dessert - Chocolate fondant puddings

Washed down with lashings of champagne and red wine. Anyone fancy joining us???

Hi lovelies,

Sorry haven't posted in so long, our internet connection has been down and I never get a chance at work to read everyones news.

Fairy you poor thing. I can't understand why they won't measure your HCG levels. But you're right to stay positive until you know for sure whats going on.

Congrats Dawn, a little girl, how exciting for you. What wonderful news.
I meant to say, I always wonder what happened to Bonafacio as well, I wonder where she went!

Buppap sorry about the BFN. It'll be our time soon.

Hi Guacamole, I just turned 33 and started trying last summer but had to give up for a while as I started new job and have to be there a whole year before I qualify for maternity (annoying), but will be back on track again in a month or so...can't wait to get back to symptom
spotting again!

Hi to Vix, Summer, MAF and anyone else I've missed.

p.s. this really is the friendliest thread isn't it. I go on the style and beauty threads the odd time for tips and stuff but sometimes the comments are so blunt

HolyGuacamole · 12/01/2009 22:41

Hi ladies, thanks for the lovely welcomes and congrats to the BFPs

So I've ordered Pregnacare vitamins and supply of ovulation sticks so I guess I need to wait now till AF. Is that what the 2ww is then? Trying to think one step at a time but keep getting way ahead of myself, I guess you all know what that is like

So can someone tell me about the surge? Is the surge recorded on the sticks after you have ovulated? Or do you get a line leading up to that time that gets darker and just make sure to BD from when you first see the line to make sure? Sorry, I'm a bit overwhelmed with the OV thing

HolyGuacamole · 12/01/2009 22:44

Hiya Linwin - Yeah, it's really friendly and nice I enjoy the tough talking, more blunt threads too though, you just need to keep a thick skin

So you will be starting ttc around the same time as me, woo-hoo! Exciting stuff!!!

DawnAS · 13/01/2009 08:45

Morning all,

Hope everyone is OK this morning!!

Oh Summer, have you been depriving yourself of Smoked Salmon? I found out just before Xmas that it is fine because the Smoking part kills any bugs!! If I'd have known you were such a fan I would have told you!! So don't feel guilty eating that. You can even have prawns aslong as they're cooked (pink) We had Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese canapes on Xmas day. Have some and enjoy!!

Holy, The Surge comes between 24-48 hours BEFORE you OV. So, the instructions that come with them are usually very good and generally say that if you are on a 28 day cycle, start "peeing on sticks" from around day 10. When you get a line darker than the test line, start BDing - you should OV within 24-48 hours after that. Remember that once you've OVd (some people get slight cramps when they actually OV - I did but never noticed them until I started really TTC) you can stop BDing then because it's too late!! Doctors generally recommend that you BD every 2-3 days from when your AF finishes to make sure you catch it. The little critters that men produce can stay alive for around 72 hours, so even if you don't manage to BD on the day of OV, if you BDd the day before, you should still be fine.

Hope all this helps hun, I'm sure the other girlies can give some advice. Just to show how freaky it is though, the month after my MC, we BDd every other day from when the MC finished and it didn't work. The next month we only BDd three times in the whole month (from about 2 days before AF) and fell PG!! So it just goes to show, it's not always quantity, but quality!! Also remember that if you BD every day, your DHs critters won't have time to regenerate.... Best to leave at least a day in between so ensure that they're as strong as they can be.

xxx

Linwin · 13/01/2009 08:46

Guacamole I didn't both with temping last time round and I doubt I'll be bothered this time either. I was hoping the BD'ing every other day thing would do the job!

makingafamily · 13/01/2009 18:27

Hello Ladies

Well 2009 has been mad so far. But have finally got an hour to sit down and catch up on my favorite mums to be and TTC'ers

Dawn A girl? Thats such lovely news. I think i would've been out and purchased half of mothercare by now

Bubba Sorry about evil AF turning up. I had a similar thing happen last month when my LP went from 10 to 20 days with no bloomin reason at all

Vix Everything crossed for you on your 2WW. Have you thought about medicated IUI's before IVF?

Holyguacamole Welcome to this lovely thread and ask away. I am a peeonastick queen

Summer Good luck for your 20 week scan tomorrow. Keep us posted. We have decided we would want to know, but thats probably because i'm an inpatient cow lol

Linwin Waves looks like we may be starting again at about the same time

Big Waves to anyone i've missed

Well, here's our TTC update. We've had out counselling appoitment that went well and today i had the HSG. A bit painful but they said all looks well. We're ordering the sperm tomorrow morning (dam the bloody euro!!) so the swimmers should be at the clinic in about 3 weeks Now its just a waiting game for us as no more tests/appointments etc until March and really i just want to get started. Our relationship with the boys seems to be getting back to normal and they're over for lunch on sunday

Anyway, i think its time for a list update

Hello ladies
I am still here - just been lurking for AGES!! But have been enjoying very much the tales of success on here, which is all so encouraging. I wonder if we should have virtual baby showers??

Anyway it's been a rough old few months. Mum had cancer, I risked losing my job for months, and I am still not pregnant...

On the plus side, DP's sperm count is good and my bloods are good -theoretically I should be able to conceive. But it hasn't happened yet. S'funny, but I desperately wanted to be pregnant by Xmas. This hasn't happened so am moving the goal posts to 'by next Xmas.'. Am 37 so nervous now. Sigh...

We have decided to try for three more months - then if no joy by April to have further tests. I can't even begin to think about how many 'real' months we have been trying (some months not possible, iykwim).

So have updated the stats to what I think I am.

Hey MAF welcome back - was about to drop you a line actually to see how you are doin lady. Glad things are better with the boys, they will want to be involved as 'Uncles' as much as poss i reckon. I still have an image of your eurobaby singing trashy euro pop - boogaloogaloo!

Thanks for the heads up on the salmon dawn i am still a bit dubious at present but wont freak out as much now - and will have those canapes a bit earlier!

fairy how are you hun? this waiting game is all very frustrating for you i am sure, has the bleeding still gone away?

Good to see you back linwin I know what you mean about the othe threads - i have been a bit taken aback by some of the bitchiness on the random threads

holyguacamole you sound like you are all set! the 2WW is the period (pardon the pun) after you have ovulated and before AF. the longest 2 weeks ever - and it always seems as if the next one comes around all too quickly too and you feel like you are always on it! Good luck hun we are all rooting for you!

Well the scan was this morning and the summerbean is HUGE! It was being a little bugger tho as the sonographer couldnt get a proper look at the heart (although it was beating furiously so she isnt worried about that - she just needs to see the 'outflow' before she can sign me off), so i have to go back next week. Still i get another chance to see my baba. It was having a good kick too!

I had a rubbish afternoon at work though, so am trying to chill tonight.

Big waves and babydust for all *

oo hi there heylottie think we crossed posts there. sorry to hear about your troubles - how is your mum now? Good luck with the next few months - heres hoping that taking the pressure off might just do the trick.

and PS - we decided we didnt want to know the gender of the summerbean - we dont feel quite ready to know yet.

OP posts:
heylottie · 13/01/2009 22:00

Hi Summerbird! Seems you have a Jumping (Summer)Bean in there - how utterly lovely. I hope Bubs lets you chill out tonight!
Mum has got the all clear - it was colon cancer - and after three months off is back to work next week.
So... onwards, upwards, and a cheeky glass of red to help me
'into Wednesday!!' x

fairywing · 14/01/2009 08:32

Hi yes still no more bleeding. The waiting is awful but only 5 more days to go. Jst don't know what to think any more i'm so up and down. Has lots of lovely friends and family trying to take my mind of things to help the week go quicker which has been nice and work are being very understanding.

Congrats on having a little girl Dawn how exciting!

And hi to everyone else and thankyou for your kind words and support over the last week.

makingafamily · 14/01/2009 08:54

Hey Fairy. Thats great that everyone's being so supportive. Keepin everything crossed for you hun x

I just realised by lookin at the list that by the time we get started TTC again that some of the bumps on this thread will have been born. How amazing is that? Where does the time go? I can't believe i've been talkin to you lovely ladies for 6 months!

Vix67 · 14/01/2009 12:54

Hello Ladies,

Great to hear from you MAF , Heylottie and Linwin*Summer fantastic news that you get to see your babba again maybe that's why he/she turned around ha ha!! I don't think I would find out the sex either, but then again I am very impatient so who knows?!

Heylottie Glad to hear your mum's better, let's hope 2009 is your year!! I know what you mean about hoping to be pg for xmas i was exactly the same and was even thinking of how i could take a photo of the BFP and put it in a To Daddy Christmas Card and surprise my DP!!!! ha ha how sad am I?? I am praying that I fall this year!!

MAF Well done for the new list , I will update mine now. I think I am on cycle 6, but really have been trying for over 2 years now aaahhhh!! But makes myself feel better if I put from when I started clomid!!
I think the doctor will maybe suggest IUI first, but Im not sure how good the success rates are with IUI?? Do you know??

Fairy good news that the bleeding has still stopped , lets hope the 5 days pass quickly for you!!

Dawn Wooo Hooo a little girl and all tests clear that really is brilliant news!! You deserve it hun xx

Big hello to everyone Ive missed hope you're all keeping well, nearly Friday
