Oooo summerbird are you going somewhere? We are going to Chamonix on Friday morning (also my birthday!) and not back until Tues 26th! Can't wait!!

eth37 · 11/08/2008 11:16

PS does anyone know when Kali i back? Will she have told her family?!?!?

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 11:52

Hi guys,

Jersey was great, thanks. Surprisely, it was very relaxing!! Despite the early morning start on the Saturday and the fact that we flew out on the Sat morning and back Sun night! The flights were so easy and check in both sides was like a dream! The weather was also really good. It was supposed to be awful with loads of rain, but it was lovely...mostly sunny. We had literally a couple of spots of rain on Sat afternoon and that was it! We went to Durrel's wildlife park yesterday. I have wanted to go for years and years as I'm a massive Gerald Durrell fan! I've read all his books and actually studied biology and biochemistry because he interested me in zoology so much! Weirdly, my DH actually did his degree in zoology!

The park has a massive focus on Madagascar conservation and a few years ago DH and I went there, partly because I've wanted to go ever since I read Gerald Durrell's The Aye Aye and I. Our trip to Madagascar was probably the best holiday I have ever been on and we both want to go back one day!!

Apart from that, I thought Jersey was pretty. I ate lots of fresh seafood, ice cream and had a Jersey cream tea yesterday...yum yum!!

BSL I want to go to Jersey now!! I love Durrell too, altho it was Attenborough that got me into Biology (that's what I did my degree in too)
I'd also so love to go to Madagascar someday, lemurs are way cool!!

summerbird · 11/08/2008 12:23

wow BSL you have got me interested in Jersey too!

eth i am off to South Wales on Friday for the weekend with friends who are going to teach me to surf - then on Monday we are off to Bath for our first wedding anniversary.

i dont know how long kalikaroo is away for - she has got some catching up to do tho when she gets back as we are a jabbery lot!!

eth37 · 11/08/2008 12:31

Jersey sounds fab!! We went to Kew Gardens on Saturday which was lovely although it rained all day
Summerbird that sounds lovely!I love Bath. USed to live in Cheltenham and it's sucha nice part of the country.
I am tempted to start packing for hols....

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 12:33

Saz - the lemurs are amazing!! It was just one of the best trips ever!! Definitely go!! It's quite expensive to go on a group trip, but my DH planned it all independently and it wasn't that expensive if you do it yourself, not too hard either. The only think I would advise is that it was originally a French colony and most of the locals speak French, but NO English, so brush up on the French!!! I love Attenborough too by the way...he certainly played a role in inspiring me!

Summerbird - where in South wales are you off too for the surfing??? We've been going to Llangennith on the Gower for about 5 years now. It's awesome! I can recommend some good pubs if you're over that way!

BSL that is EXACTLY where we are going! We are going to the (as i have now realised) very famous Hillend Campsite. Go on then - recommend some pubs to me as i reckon the weather will be rubbish! There is a crowd of us going, made up of some really good friends i made when i lived in London - i am really excited.

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 13:48

Summerbird - we used to always stay at Hillend, but have moved in the last few years to either Three Cliffs or Kennexstone...We all live so far away and can't get down there that early on a Friday. You can't book pitches at Hillend (it's always full in the summer months), and as we now have a (nearly) 3 year old with us, we need to know we have pitches. You will love Hillend...make sure you have a BBQ in the dunes! The good pubs - well, opposite PJs surf shop in Llangennith is The Kings Head - pretty famous and has pool tables, juke box and quiz game machines. Most people end up there, but the food has taken a nose-dive (IMO) since they have been under new management, last year. We've started going to the King Arthur's which is on the way over towards Rhosilli (which if the waves are flat is worth a visit). The food there is great!! Plus they have lots of seating inside and outside. The Greyhound on the way to Llangennith is also nice for food, but hasn't got such good atmosphere! Oh and Eddie's, actually at Hillend, is the only (and best) place to go for breakfast!! They have the best brownies in the world there too!

You are going to love it there! the beach is amazing! 3 miles of white sand and dunes you can get lost in!!

When ever we're going I'll let you know, it would be cool and strange to meet! We're going again 12th - 14th September and will probably also go for a weekend in Oct/Nov.

wow thanks for that BSL i shall copy that info and take it with me. it all sounds wonderful, my friend now lives in Cardiff and goes there quite regularly. it would be great to meet up, in such a cool place too! I am not sure about the September dates but do let me know if you decide to go later in the year as i am sure i will be able to convince my surf mad husband to go again!! we should all go and have a 'first time TTC' party!

summerbird · 11/08/2008 14:20

oh and ps BSL who is your 'nearly 3 year old'? would that be the cute ickle baby in your profile pics?

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 14:27

Summerbird - lol, nope. The little one in my pix is my niece. She's only 10 months old. Our friends have a little boy who has been coming surfing with us since he was a bean in his mummy's tummy. He'll be 3 in September. He was one of my DH's ushers at our wedding! They are expecting DC#2 at the moment...I think I might have mentioned our friends before as I took a PG test (BFN) the day they told us they were expecting (11.5 week). She is due beginning Feb 09!

I'll definitely let you know re: Oct/Nov. We normally hire a cottage going into or coming out of the winter, but the boys are all such super keen surfers that the cold doesn't bother them!

saz007 · 11/08/2008 15:12

Can I ask a question about testing please?

I know that you are supposed to use FMU to get a stronger concentration of hormones, but if you drink a lot of water during the day before, does anyone know if this can dilute the levels? I ask as I usually drink about 3l of water a day.....straws and clutching I know

I'm not going to test again for a few more days, I don't want to start down that slippery slope and it's still a week and a half to pay day!!

Suring sounds good BSL and Summerbird, never done it but I've body-boarded on holiday and that was fun! Not sure it would be the same in the UK tho - I know when I did my open water diving, it was horrible

makingafamily · 11/08/2008 15:15

Hello All.

How are your mondays going?

eth37 · 11/08/2008 15:18

Surfing sounds good - v jealous!!

saz not sure if that would make a difference - I think it's more the length of time you have held it in, so to speak? Are your cycles normally regular? Any more symptoms? You can get a batch of pg tests on a website (accessdiagnostics or something) for quite cheap.... But I know - you don't want to get obsessive (like I always do....). Maybe wait 'til Wednesday if stlll no sign?

maf my monday is pretty quiet. Just back from the gym and thinking I should do some cleaning! How about you? Getting nervous for Thurs?

makingafamily · 11/08/2008 15:43

Saz. Sorry about your BFN but No AF has gotta be a good thing. Just give it a few more days and then try again

Hi Eth. My monday is driving me mad, trying to work and my head is wedding mad. Yep getting very nervous lol

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 16:04

Saz - Do you have many PG symptoms?? The PG test is measuring concentration of hormone in your urine. Some people get early BFPs because they have loads of hormone. Usually loads of hormones means lots of symptoms, like MS. You're right, if you are really well hydrated your urine will be more dilute in terms of hormones etc.

MAF - how was your weekend?? All excited for the coming week??

Eth - I really recommend surfing, it's a good laugh and Llangennith is lovely! We camp, but only at places that have showers and power sockets for hair straighteners!

Well Saz, I don't know how you drink that much, but I would avoid drinking anything, say after 10pm. Make sure you go for a good wee (sorry about TMI) before you go to bed and don't drink anything else before you test again in the morning.

Give yourself some time. I've read people on here that didn't get BFPs until they were about 7 weeks PG!! So don't give up yet!!

xx

saz007 · 11/08/2008 16:24

Thanks ladies, I know I'm being totally ridiculous about this!

I don't get many symptoms before AF normally but over the past few days I've had weird fluttery/light crampy (rather than bad crampy) feelings, boobs are a wee bit sore, I'm weeing loads (I know I drink a lot but more than usual!)

But I'm more than aware that these could all be imaginary

I'm impatient and I guess this is me just wanting to know right now rather than having to wait a few more days

Thanks for putting up with me

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 16:28

Saz - I second what Dawn says! It can take some people a long time to get their BFP, when they are PG! I reckon if you are PG, your hormone levels aren't high enough yet. The more you feel symptom-wise, the more likely you are to get a BFP result. By the way what test are you using...that's another area of debate - which ones are the most sensitive...

Anyhow, all I can say as comfort is no AF is a good sign!!

summerbird · 11/08/2008 16:48

hang on in there saz we arent putting up with you we are sticking with you girl!!

BSL important question - does Hillend have electricity sockets for GHDs - i cant stress enough just know how important that is to me!!!

eth37 · 11/08/2008 16:58

Hang in there, saz - I reckon if you're starting to get symptoms the concentration of hormones should be definitely increasing! How many days since AF due now? It's so frustrating, isn't it. Symptoms sound v good though!!

LOL for sockets for hair straighteners - I am the same - def couldn't contemplate camping without nice showers and plugs!!

bluestarlavender · 11/08/2008 17:10

Summerbird - they have built new shower blocks since I stayed there. But I did go in and check them out...I'm sorry to say I couldn't find any power sockets...but I could have missed them. Sorry, hun! Kennexstone and 3 cliffs have them, but I guess that's no help!

The showers are nice though, and they have surfers ones (for when you're in your wetsuit and sandy) and proper ones too. Bearing in mind you just walk through the dunes to the camp site, it's pretty nice to come up the beach and jump straight into the showers!

Saz - I think your symptoms sounds good too!

Hi ladies

Seems I've got lots to catch up with since yesterday!!

saz ... sorry you had a BFN but as the other girls have said, it may be too soon yet.

Had a chat with my DH about names yesterday -a bit premature I know ...
but then I couldn't sleep last night thinking about it all... wondering if I could even be PG already! it's the dreaded 2WW for me now!

DawnAS · 11/08/2008 19:22

Hey Bubbap,

We had the name conversation about 3 weeks ago on this thread, so you're not premature at all.

Unfortunately I think I upset Bonafacio because she had chosen a beautiful girls name, Emily-Rose. But unfortunately I reminded her of the re-make in 2005 of the Exorcist which was called "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". . It's such a beautiful name though that I hope she still goes for it!!

We've chosen Marissa Ellen Rose for a girl and Ryan Anthony Jonathan for a boy. Normally we'd only go for 2 names but we wanted one middle name from each family and a new name as the first name. It doesn't seem to matter these days and my DH has two middle names from his Dad and Grandad.

Sorry - I'm waffling now!!
