congratulations that is great news.

lovely time of year to have a baby-have always thought spring would be great with all the summer sunshine to go for lovely walks, sit in cafes chatting with your friends or reading a book in the park while your baby gurgles at you (although actually I have August, October and will now have December but you cannot plan these things!)

Well, I think it was a combination of the BDing and the babydust!

I have so much to do today...whilst walking around on cloud nine! Setting off to Wales first thing tomorrow, for Sis wedding Friday. Then going on hols Sat, straight from hers as she lives closer to Manchester airport! MUST start packing - was thinking I might like to borrow Mandy's miniskirt actually!

Hope everyone is ok today? The 'Summer of love' won't have started yet I guess?

Hey All,

DH and I went shopping - for food!! So not overly exciting but I did use it as an excuse to buy lots of yummy food that I thought Pip might appreciate. Lots of yoghurt and cheese (cheddar of course... ) and also got some houmous. I love that and it's supposed to be quite healthy. A Caramelised Onion one and a Red Pepper one - yum yum!!

Anyway ladies, I'm a bit confused, I thought they took your "how far along you are" date from the first day of your last period. Well my period was 5 weeks today, but on Babycentre it says that I'm 4 weeks?! Does anyone else know how they're supposed to work it out?

DawnAS · 23/07/2008 10:18

Oooh, must say though that I was wandering around looking at books and then I went around the corner to the toy aisle and DH was there looking at baby's teddy bears. He looked all shy when I walked over to him and said "I wondered whether we should buy Pip's first teddy bear" - ahhhh bless!!!

PS: We didn't know though because they were crap!!

ceebee74 · 23/07/2008 10:34

Dawn - I had that problem re due dates aswell both times. All those calculators assume you have a 28-day cycle so it is assuming you ovulated/conceived 14 days after the first day of your last period - and that your BFP was 14 days after that. However, if you have a longer cycle, all the due date calculators can't cope with it (including the ones the GP and MW's use!) As I had a 35-day (ish) cycle when I conceived, I just used a date a week later for the first date of my last period - I told the MW this date (even though it was a lie), used it in the on-line calculators etc and got a due date of 26 November - which was confirmed by my scan so maybe try that! Sorry have waffled there but I had this issue with DS and ended up going for my 12-week scan at just under 11 weeks as the due date calculators couldn't cope with a longer cycle and it was pretty rubbish tbh - he had no arms and legs and looked like a deformed jelly baby so we didn't get a photo as I didn't want to have to explain 100 times to people why my baby had no limbs!!

Right Dawn

You date the pregnancy as 266 days (8 1/2 months)from ovulation. So, seing as 'most' people have 28 day cycles this would be 280 days (9 months) from 1st day of LMP.

However, my cycles are much longer than 28 days, so I calculate it from ov day minus 14 days! Does that makes sense?

When was CD1 for you?

(very sweet about the teddy!)

ChocolateEclair · 23/07/2008 10:37

Ah, ceebee ex[lained it sooooo much better than me - but that's what I meant! I fully intend to lie to the midwife as well!

DawnAS · 23/07/2008 10:38

So Ceebee, I'm almost better to say that I'm 4 weeks then instead of 5? Bit of an arse really - an extra week before I can tell people (as in thought I only had 7 weeks before I could tell people - now it'll be 8 weeks.. )

Better to be safe than sorry though I guess!! Oh well, changed the update then!!

DawnAS · 23/07/2008 10:45

See well, I'm not quite sure what day I OVd either, I can tell you what "days" but not the specific day because I get CM all the time and it was different to normal for about 5/6 days.... I'm sure it was about 14 days ago though so I'll probably just go with the 4 weeks..

What will the Midwife ask in respect of dates then? What will I need to tell her. Just move my AF later by a week?

DawnAS · 23/07/2008 10:46

I guess it's better to underestimate the timelines than overestimate them...

xx

ceebee74 · 23/07/2008 10:46

Dawn - I am afraid so - I know how frustrating it is having been there twice but it is better to get the date accurate from the start (plus, from experience, once you and CE join/start the ante-natal thread here for April 2009, it is MUCH better to be the ones due early in the month rather than the ones - like me - who are due at the end - it was torture hearing everyone else going for their scans when mine was still 4 weeks away!!)

So sweet about the teddy but you want to make sure your first baby purchase is special so definitely have a look around.

x

DawnAS · 23/07/2008 10:48

Ceebee totally with you on the teddybear front... Although a bit nervous about buying anything quite yet. As weeks go on I'll feel more comfortable about it.

Any advice on maternity bras by the way?! Other than the op that I had - I don't think I've ever actually "grown" bigger since I was about 16 (and even then there wasn't much believe me - hence the op...!). All I know is that right now all my bras feel too tight and uncomfortable. I think because of the implants my boobs are growing wider as opposed to out front!!

Heard that I need to stop wearing underwired ones aswell, is that right?!

FlirtyThirty · 23/07/2008 10:55

Well ladies...the Preseed has just arrived. Not bad..I only ordered it yesterday afternoon!?

It looks so technical! Bloody hell...DH can never know about this stuff...he'll think I've lost it completely. You'd think they could make it look less scientific...

Mandy...I must have missed the whole mini-skirt thing! Is this the secret weapon...!?

ceebee74 · 23/07/2008 10:58

Lol at your boobs growing wider! I think the advice is to get measured regularly but tbh, this would cost a fortune if you had to buy new bras everytime you got measured!! My boobs haven't really grown this time round so am still in my pre-pg bras - yes, you are right that you shouldn't wear underwired bras but I still do I am too vain not too but that really is bad practice so don't listen to me!

You are probably right to wait before buying anything - with DS, the first thing I bought was a gorgeous huge teddy bear with a red hoody on when I was about 20 weeks pg. He is called Lenny and sits on a shelf in DS's bedroom and we bring him down every morning and every night to say 'goodnight' to DS and give him a kiss and then put him back - although DS seems to have developed a very independent streak now he has turned 2 and refuses to play that game now !

Bellie · 23/07/2008 11:36

I am still in my underwired ones but they are getting very tight - was going to dig my maternity bras from last time out soon (when the guests that are staying in the room where it is all stored goes!!). I can't remember when I changed last time, but am definately feeling like I am squashing them in!! .

bluestarlavender · 23/07/2008 11:53

Flirty - I think I must be evil!! I made DH check out the preseed yesterday and read about how to use it FOR me!! I haven't even been into the box yet!! He's being so good about all of this. I think he's secretly pleased that I want a Bean so badly. We did think about trying twice before, before we got married, but I was the one who bottled out both times!!

Mandy - how short is the skirt??

Anyhow, off to drive into the office . I love working from home, and although I like catching up with everyone when I do go in, this month my AF is really hurting! I'm too scared to take any ibuprofen (which I normally take) because it can cause problems with egg development, so I'm on paracetamol...got lots of pain and a headache!

Later guys!!!

Ahhh MJIM, that sounds like a lovely day!!

I just had my lunch in the garden as it's beautiful here too, but unfortunately I was very very naughty and didn't think I'd need the suntan lotion. I now have red shoulders and arms.... . Good job I didn't stay out there any longer really, because they're not too bad but I think give it another 30 mins I'd be very sore...

Thanks for all the hints and tips guys on the bra issue - although can I ask one more thing on that? Assuming that they actually do maternity bras, do you buy your normal size because they're specially made to stretch because they're maternity bras, or do you actually buy bigger sizes? Sorry to sound so naive!!

I'm wearing one of those vest tops with the bra bit built in at the moment and it's quite comfy!!

Flirty, that's exactly what I first thought when I got my preseed through - almost glad I didn't need to use it really... Although maybe I should hang onto it for now, a bit early to get rid of it yet I guess...
