I've started a new thread as the old one was full - hope everyone finds their way here OK.

OP posts:
napa · 12/05/2008 11:16

kate thanks for the laugh this morning, but have to admit I had to read that bit twice too!! do you think we have one track minds?!

quick question... how long did you periods take to returns after misc? I had ERPC on 1st April and apart from bleeding on and off then, have had nothing, the longer it goes on the more worried I am about being out somewhere and a really heavy period starts. I'm doing the moonwalk on Saturday night and knowing my luck it will be in the middle of that.
Thanks!

quarkee · 12/05/2008 12:51

napa I went back to normal pretty much straightaway but I know there are others here who took a while to get back into the swing of things - everyone (as ever) seems to be different - hang in there...

daisyj · 12/05/2008 14:20

napa ditto quarkee, but it seems to be anything from 4 weeks to three months. Have you had your hcg levels checked? That might give you some idea...

kate hilarious . I too read that a couple of times before I realised what was going on!

prepg - where are you? Did you test?

PrePG · 12/05/2008 14:28

Oh, daisy sorry I didn't post here, but TEW showed up - I started spotting at only 8dpo

Did anybody read about Cherie Blair's miscarriage? It was right after Leo and she said that Tony announced it because he didn't want the press to think they weren't going on holiday because of a potential situation in Iraq. He didn't come off very well, but I suddenly felt compassion for her (which I'm not sure I ever did before). It was interesting...

PrePG · 12/05/2008 14:33

Meant to add that she said afterward Tony was trying to console her and he said something like 'Well, you thought something wasn't right, so it's probably for the best'

I just thought that was really amazing - this man is a leader of the free world and he just doesn't get it! I guess most men couldn't possibly understand.

here's the link to The Times

NotSoNewAnymore · 12/05/2008 14:36

PrePG - so sorry about TEW and at 8DPO!! I also had a LP of only 9 days in my first post-mc cycle. Hopefully it is just our systems settling down? Huge glass of wine for you tonight

I had a rough day on Saturday - I saw my friend who is pregnant (and due at the same time as I was). She talked alot about the baby, how excited she was and how much better she felt now that the first trimester is over (she is 19 weeks). I felt like reminding her that (a) I have an idea how crap you feel in the first few months and (b) I have to try and go through it again...it wasn't necessarily a fun day

Although - after that amusing piece about the commute and TTC, I am looking forward to my journey home today

elibumbum · 12/05/2008 14:37

Prepg - sorry that TEW showed up. Good luck for your next cycle.

napa - re periods after mc - mine arrived 4 weeks after the ERPC. Had 3 weeks of bleeding after ERPC then a week off then a period for another 2 weeks. Was pleased to see it at first but soon got pretty fed up with it! I hate not knowing when it is going to turn up - have to go everywhere armed with tampons! First post-mc one was quite heavy to start with too.

Has anyone used an ovulation microscope?

NotSoNewAnymore · 12/05/2008 14:41

PrePG That is an excellent article....I just read it quickly and have a lump in my throat. I guess no-one is immune to the heartache of losing a child. Just that some people have politics to deal with at the same time

mistlethrush · 12/05/2008 14:59

How horrid to have dp talking of press releases rather than dropping everything and trying to get you (both) through it.

Yes, she almost sounds human doesn't she !

OP posts:
quarkee · 12/05/2008 15:20

will read it tonight - I normally steer clear of Blair related literature...

daisyj · 12/05/2008 16:57

Oh, I just read it . Feeling a bit down today anyway - just really want my baby back. Sounds like I've lost my favourite teddy or something, but ykwim.

prepg - sorry about TEW - hope you're feeling OK, hon.

NSNA - how crappy for you - I guess you might have to avoid her for a while. Bit insensitive, though. I'm sure she must have plenty of other people she can 'share' with, without submitting you to it. Have a big cake and a glass of wine !

Am off for a swim in half an hour in the hope of lifting my spirits. It'll be the first exercise I've done since m/c, but I'm going on holiday in less than a month, so that doesn't give me very long to acquire a bikini-fit tummy - ha ha, in my dreams!

louwantsaBFPtoo · 12/05/2008 17:52

Daisy - Im so sorry you are feeling crappy. I have been through the "I want my baby back" days many times. Feeling for you.
Hope the swim makes you feel a bit more relaxed.
xx

PrePG · 12/05/2008 17:57

Thanks, NSNA - the spotting started at 8dpo, but the full-on bleeding didn't come until this morning, so I'm counting today as CD1, and still maintained my 10-day LP. Hopefully it is my cycle just settling down, but I can't seem to do anything to lengthen my LP - it's always around 10 days. Also, I always seem to O right around the same time also. I guess the thing that's varied most for me is the amount (or complete lack thereof!) of CM and the spotting. After coming off BCP and now the two cycles immediately following the mc, I have little CM and lots of random spotting. Oh, well, I got pregnant the third cycle after coming off BCP, so let's hope the same is true for my third cycle since MC. Maybe that's just how long it takes my body...

Anyway, so sorry your friend is talking so much about her baby. I know it's hard and I don't really have any advice

napa like everyone else has said, it's perfectly normal for AF to be delayed after mc. Are you temping or using OPK's? if you can determine when you O'd you might have an easier time of predicting when she'll arrive. Good luck.

daisy Hugs for you too. I'm sorry that you're feeling down. Must be going around

elibumbum · 12/05/2008 18:30

prepg have you heard of preseed? I've seen a few people mention it on other ttc threads. Might be worth a try if you don't have much CM.

mistlethrush · 12/05/2008 22:34

Daisy - was there today. Secretary at work due about 2wks before edd...'I've only got 7 wks to go, still feeling lots of movement...' - yeah, right, thanks very much, I'm not feeling anything.

Got paracetamol trial tomorrow - will let you know how things go . Have told work I don't know when/if I'll be back...

OP posts:
scully · 13/05/2008 03:51

Hi ladies
Elibumbum I have an ovulation microscope, could never get my picture to resemble what they said it should, so gave up and just used opk's.
Napa, af has a mind of it's own after a m/c, seems to be different each time. I still haven't seen af since my m/c in April, but I think that's because it went on for about 12 days and then wasn't complete anyway, so my body seems to have no idea what to do right now
It does suck when people don't seem to be considerate of what we've been through. I don't want anyone to walk on eggshells around me, just acknowledge the loss and the time it can take to recover from it.
How did the paracetamol trial go Mistle?

daisyj · 13/05/2008 07:16

Thanks for the thoughts and hugs everyone. I feel much better today after swim - I think it might have been a little to do with feeling stressed about the move, but a bit of exercise seems to have worked wonders.

Yesterday must have been the day for it, what with Cherie Blair - I bought the Evening Standard on the way home and their was an interview with the lovely Mariella Frostrup in which she talks about her m/c (she must have been 39/40), after which she went on to have two children in quick succession. She says 'I don't know any woman who's got children who hasn't had a miscarriage but I do think a lot of women find it very hard to talk about' and she talks about how worried she was that she wouldn't be able to have children.

Does it sound awful to say that it really did make me feel a lot better - she was so honest and un-smug about finally having kids - it's good to see women with such a high profile talking about this. Unlike the hideous Gwyneth Paltrow who a friend tells me was raving about pregnancy and babies in Glamour magazine last month and how wonderful it is that this is something that it 'accessible to all women'. What planet is she on!!?

mistle - hope the trial goes well for you.

Have a good day, lovelies.

x

lastboxoftampons · 13/05/2008 10:13

I decided to change my screenname in order to think a bit more positively (pun intended) about TTC and I did in fact buy what I hope is my last box this morning So lastboxoftampons = PrePG Eli - I was thinking of trying preseed this month. The month we did conceive I had lots of natural CM - not sure where it came from or more importantly, where it's gone!

daisy Glad to hear you're feeling better this morning. Feeling a bit like a cloud has lifted and that I need to just get on with it. My parents arrive today for a week-long visit which includes a quick jaunt to Spain, so hopefully, I'll have an obsession-free week!

NotSoNewAnymore · 13/05/2008 10:26

great name lastbox !!!

daisy I am really pleased that you are feeling a little better. Exercise does help sometimes - all those endorphins I guess!

mistle sorry about the secretary's comments...it is soooooo hard, isn't it.

quarkee · 13/05/2008 10:31

LBT sounds like you are on the up - great news.

Daisy glad you are feeling more positive - I didnt know re MF but I have always had a bit of a soft spot for her. Godd for het that she was open about mc I am still quite abotu how secret everyone keeps it - you may remember a while ago I was saying Id beenout with my SIL and she hadnt said anything - well she still hasnt and now I dont know whether its 'OK' to mention it. Mind you, I dont think shes told her children about my PD (they're women, not kids btw) so its probably a pattern of denial....

mistle what was the trial for?

daisyj · 13/05/2008 12:03

LBT how weird, I was just wondering this morning whether you might change your name. I like it . Glad you're feeling better too.

quarkee - we love Mariella in our house. DH and I always have a childish argument over who reads her first in the Observer magazine (she's my best friend; no she's mine, etc.)!

mistlethrush · 13/05/2008 20:49

Well, had trial for Paracetamol potential allergy: started with 'prick' test - 3 blobs of different things, one being dillute paracetamol. No reaction. Then gradually increasing amounts - no apparent reaction. Got back to car - thought face was a bit swollen, particularly around the eyes - thought it was just paranoia and would go away. Drove home as not feeling particularly great. Got home, had one look at my fact and neck, got in the car and drove back again. Got into department (quiet at the best of times) - managed to locate the two staff nurses (eating their lunch and having a chat - the one that saw me jumped up and immediately got the senior registrar that was looking after me in the morning - who rushed to get some things etc and then a consultant came in and said it was really unusual - only seen one before in his career - and could they get some pictures done for 'teaching purposes' !!!!! - quite quickly had people bustling round getting things to calm rash down (now quite spectacular) - meanwhile first consultant reappeared, then the consultant who had seen me first - then the one that wanted the pictures - then the 'medical illustrators' wanted their pictures - then I had to wait around for a bit and eventually got to come home. Feeling a bit bleugh and will have an early night.

So been rather eventrul in the thrushes nest...

OP posts:
napa · 14/05/2008 09:42

sounds like you had a dramatic day!

not much to report my end (AF-wise anyway). Having new kitchen fitted so house resembling a building site!, currently have no kitchen, no floor in what was the kitchen and no hot water in one of our bathrooms!, and everything I touch is dusty. thinking we should have moved out while they were doing this, oh well bit late now. flooring guys coming today, tomorrow and friday so by the weekend we should have a nice new floor to walk on, but until then using the dining room as kitchen/living room/storage area (also doing living room floor so can't go in there either). then kitchen hopefully in by the bank holiday weekend.

I'm also doing the moonwalk this weekend with a group of friends - 26.2 miles through london in the middle of the night wearing a bra in aid of breast cancer.

hope everyone else is doing ok

scully · 15/05/2008 04:54

Enjoy the moonwalk Napa, hope it stays warm over there
Your day on Tues sounds very hectic Mistle, hope the reaction has calmed down now, sounds like you will be famous in some medical journal soon
Good to hear you're feeling better Daisy, hope that feeling continues for the rest of the week
I think af arrived yesterday, 5wks exactly since m/c began. Doesn't feel like I've had to wait too long though, with m/c going on for at least 12days and then being incomplete anyway
Wondering if the acupuncture last week had anything to do with af arriving, as she put needles in different places, when I told her drs had confirmed that m/c was incomplete.
Had Foxtel (Sky) installed today, dd2 just finished watching Balamory, brings back memories of dd1 watching it religiously when we were in the UK

NotSoNewAnymore · 15/05/2008 11:20

Hi all,

Am now officially on the two week wait as O'd two days ago. We are going away for 10 days (Leaving on Saturday) so I am hoping that I will be distracted from my usual obsessing while I wait for signs of AF. Oh...who am I kidding..I am already symptom spotting

napa that moonwalk sounds like a good cause - I hope the weather co-operates with you. (It is pouring with rain here!) I guess that getting away from your building site home is a good incentive to just keep walking...get far away as possible!

scully great news on getting foxtel...what are you going to watch first? I did do a double take when I read the time of your post - 4:54am? Then I realised you were in Aus...DUH. I need to wake up

Hope everyone else is well.
