I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

@Twdfn123 congratulations. Looks like a strong positive to me!!

I'm having a bit of a freak out. Just realised my last two cycles were 24 days long. I thought they were 24 and 27. I ovulate quite late in my cycle sometine between day 16-18 so that's made me anxious. Pre DD I had cycles every 27 days. Now I've never had three cycles in a row the same length. They're anywhere between 24-29 days. Driving me a bit mad and now very worried about how short my lutal phase is

Twdfn123 · 08/08/2023 10:25

Thank you so much, can't quite believe it! Got another test for tomorrow morning just to really believe it iykwim.

For what it's worth, my cycles range from 30-35 days they're always a different length every time. Im sure you will be fine 🙂 hope I've read that correctly and im not just talking rubbish xx

Mummysparrow · 08/08/2023 10:36

@SillyFillyDress where did you get yours tested? Was it one if those self test kits?

SillyFillyDress · 08/08/2023 10:52

@Mummysparrow I did blood tests in a fertility clinic.

KM8 · 08/08/2023 16:12

Hi 👋🏻 Can I join?
DD is 2yrs, we are TTC#2
Stopped pill in June had withdrawal bleed July 5th. Currently on day 35....no sign of AF.
Taken a test, but negative 😫

jules5232 · 08/08/2023 17:17

Can I join? Little late but I'm ttc #2 with an almost 2 year old. We've been trying since January, but our first took 13 months to conceive. Each month feels like forever!

PerfectPairOfPlums · 08/08/2023 21:58

Welcome @KM8 and @jules5232

I have such an urge to test. One app says I am 4dpo and the other says 6dpo. I have no idea which is more likely so maybe I should go in the middle. I would still have to wait roughly 4/5 days to get a decent line on any test but I feel I need to test

WolfMother326 · 09/08/2023 13:13

@Bells3032 I had this problem before my first. I took a supplement called vitex /agnus castus that seemed to lengthen my luteal phase by a few days over about 3 months, then I got pregnant- May not have been related but it seemed to help. Good luck x

WolfMother326 · 09/08/2023 13:25

I meant to reply to this thread last month after I'd asked everyone about why they wanted a second. I loved your the responses @Bells3032 @Mummysparrow @swirly3468 @Bubblesandtroubles - really similar stories to mine. Then I got AF and felt really low as I'd had a good feeling last month so took a break from mumsnet.

This cycle we were pretty good about dtd and I actually detected ovulation for the first time in months. This morning (11 dpo) I felt exhausted and had a headache so decided to test early even though felt like I was wasting an expensive test (didn't have any cheapies left). Was so shocked and delighted to see this... I'm really early, still have 4 days til AF normally due. Fingers crossed it sticks!

Out of interest how long was your literal phase before?

My app (Femometer) keeps telling me my luteal phase is too short - its 11 days, but I've conceived twice with it being that length.
Also very interested about the Vitex, as it's used as an alternative medicine to stuff that I'm on for a prolactinoma.

WolfMother326 · 09/08/2023 18:30

@Throwawy
Mine was 10 or 11 days and went up to about 12 or 13 when I conceived. I'm a pretty big fan of vitex!

PerfectPairOfPlums · 09/08/2023 18:36

Congratulations @WolfMother326 hope you have a great pregnancy

Bubblesandtroubles · 09/08/2023 19:29

@WolfMother326 and @Twdfn123 congratulations both of you!! Wonderful news 💕

I am now either 1dpo and just mostly feeling relieved that there is no pressure to DTD this evening! 🙈
Managed every day since Friday + except Saturday. So hoping we've thrown enough at it 🤞🏻🤞🏻
We go away on holiday at the weekend so at least will keep me distracted for the TWW!

@Bells3032 I've had 2x 24 days cycles and a 25 day since February but then last month it went back to normal. So not sure what happened there 🤷🏼‍♀️ hoping this one is the right length too! Xx

Mummysparrow · 09/08/2023 21:35

@Throwawy you have a prolactinoma? I had a prolactinoma until it went into remission after my first pregnancy. I used to be on Cabergoline and was on it for 12 years x

OP posts:
Throwawy · 09/08/2023 22:43

@Mummysparrow yeh been on Cabergoline 10 years, other than a 6 month break that went badly, and then it was decided I'd stay on it forever. My prolactin was still high a year after birth/9 months after stopping breastfeeding so I just went back on it. Haven't been rescanned since I was 2 years in, but the 2 times I stopped my main symptoms - weight gain and night sweats - came back as well as the high prolactin so just assuming it's still there.

RedRobyn2021 · 10/08/2023 19:47

I've just taken the test and I'm pregnant

I'm filled with anxiety, I had HG last time and I'm scared. Need to call the doctors tomorrow but I'm frightened they won't give me the medication.

Just in shock and want to cry, ridiculous as this was all planned and I know I'm being insane. I thought it would be negative.

I really want another baby, I wish we could just skip the pregnancy and birth part!

PerfectPairOfPlums · 10/08/2023 20:22

Congratulations @RedRobyn2021 fingers crossed you have a better pregnancy this time.

Throwawy · 10/08/2023 20:43

Congrats @RedRobyn2021!

Bubblesandtroubles · 10/08/2023 22:09

Congratulations @RedRobyn2021 your hormones will be all over. And we have an inkling what's to come after the first time around so no wonder you're nervous - especially when you had a tough time.
Doesn't mean the same will happen again though.
I hope you have an easy pregnancy this time round! 💕 Xx

Mummysparrow · 11/08/2023 11:16

@Throwawy oh really? Does the medication help keep things at bay?
I tried coming off Cabergoline back in 2017 and although my prolactin levels remained low my periods stopped. I came off Cabergoline once I became pregnant and thankfully never had to go back on it. However I was never able to breastfeed as it caused issues with my supply. Prolactinomas are known to cause issues with supply so I was prepared for it thankfully.
I have heard Cabergoline can be used for fertility so I am a little worried that it helped me get pregnant laste time and that I will have issues this time around. I won't know until I start trying.

OP posts:
Throwawy · 11/08/2023 21:35

@Mummysparrow it really does. My main issue is weight gain. When I came off it for 6 months I gained 4 stone! During pregnancy for the first half I lost weight as I think my hormones somewhat balanced out. I was back as pre-pregnancy weight a week after giving birth, then I gained 2.5 stone without changing eating habits. Start Cabergoline again and I'm back down 3 stone in 6 months. High prolactin is known to cause weight gain but it's crazy how much of a difference it can make without changing eating habits. When I move been losing I've actually been eating more as it's freaked me out how quickly it comes off.

When I've stopped my periods remained regular though. Have you had your hormones tested in any way? Before I was diagnosed my estrogen was literally 0. I didn't have periods at that point. Before my last pregnancy though I forgot to take it for at least a month and still got pregnant (accidentally).

Mummysparrow · 11/08/2023 22:42

@Throwawy my periods stopped at 16 and started having milk production. I never got weight gain but I donk think I ever got a huge prolactin level and half a dose of Cabergoline did the job for me.
I had to fight to get an MRI and prolactin levels checks (as I had a Google and came across prolactinoma so I thought that was what it was) they never check any other hormones and continue to not test anything. I haven't even had my prolactin levels checked in over a year. I have considered getting my levels checked privately. I have vitamin and iron deficiencies since have a child though which I never seem to be able to get on top of.

Congrats @Twdfn123 @WolfMother326 and @RedRobyn2021 ! Wishing you all happy , healthy pregnancies!

I’m CD9 today so will start the OPKs again tomorrow probably. I’m feeling really wobbly about having another this week. I’m sick with a horrible cold and totally sapped of energy so that doesn’t help, but all the reasons NOT to have one have been piling up on me. Everything from financial strain and insecurity, which I’m really worried about, to possible issues with mine or the baby’s health.

Anyone have any tips on how to work through this as ultimately it comes down to whether I’d regret it if we didn’t try, and I know I would.

Twdfn123 · 13/08/2023 17:41

Thank you but I'm just going through an early miscarriage. Hopefully next time 🥺

Good luck to you xx

deliwoman1 · 13/08/2023 17:49

@Twdfn123 oh I’m so sorry. Sending hugs. xxx
