Anyone out there starting/continuing IVF treatment next month (April 2023)?

I’m 36, first time everything, and due to start stims early April. Wondering if there are others who might like a thread to chat/vent?

If you’re out there and in a similar position, let me know!

Post transfer - I'm feeling a bit lightheaded and mildly back crampy this morning. I assume that's just because someone poked around my insides yesterday!

CR7 · 25/04/2023 10:59

@RunningOnHope absolutely I'm sure. Also the relief of getting through yesterday. You were probably quite tense even if you didn't realise it at the time xx

CR7 · 25/04/2023 12:35

So they called me on the way to the clinic and I almost freaked out as they were only meant to be calling with bad news.

They said the transfer is on but they need to change my drugs. No other info.

I am glad they are all over it but I'm pi55ed off they called me as I went from 0-100 on the stress level and I feel that it could have waited til I got there.

Sitting in the sunshine in the car park with my water. My advice to anyone who hasn't done it is don't start the constant drinking until an hour before. I went to the loo at home at 12 noon and started slow drinking in the car. I already need a wee and there's half an hour to go.

On my first transfer I was so desperate for a wee I couldn't get my clothes off to put the gown on 🤣🤣

TheBirdintheCave · 25/04/2023 14:09

@CR7 I think the full bladder is the part I'm most afraid of. I don't know how I'll manage holding it that long :/

I hope the transfer went ok! Sorry they called you and gave you a scare though :(

Flowerlover010 · 25/04/2023 14:21

@CR7 geez it isnt half stressful! Can only imagine how you must of felt. Hope it all goes ok.

CR7 · 25/04/2023 14:34

All ok here. Don't go wild with the drinking, trust me. It gets uncomfortable especially if they are running late.

Embryo is in place.

Progesterone was low so they offered me rectal pessaries or injections. I went for the much more expensive but much easier injections as I have tried rectal pessaries before but it wasn't for me.

Thank you all for your support 🩷🩵

The full bladder is not pleasant, I can tell you. The reason they need a full bladder for the transfer is because the uterus naturally folds over when the bladder is empty, which means the catheter will kink, so the embryo risks not making it into the uterus. The bladder being full helps to flatten out the uterus and thus makes it easier for the catheter to slide in and the embryo to put in place.

I got it wrong with my first transfer in March earlier this year. My bladder wasn't full enough, so I ended up downing a load of water to fill it up quickly. All went well. But I nearly wet myself three times on the way home because I'd drank way too much. Sitting there in pain, thinking your bladder is going to burst is not fun.

I learned the hard way. But I know for similar procedures in the future.

TheBirdintheCave · 25/04/2023 15:41

So. I've been having red bleeding since 1pm. Can I count this as day one? It's more than spotting but not heavy yet. If I weren't doing IVF I'd count this as CD1 but I don't want to get it wrong 😂

CR7 · 25/04/2023 15:42

Was told I had to wake up bleeding xx but that could just be my clinic @TheBirdintheCave

TheBirdintheCave · 25/04/2023 15:45

Hmm, ok, I wish I'd been given such a definitive instruction. I think we'll call tomorrow morning and let the clinic choose between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Flowerlover010 · 25/04/2023 15:51

@TheBirdintheCave i was told after 5pm is considered the next day! Why are they all so different in what they say!

RunningOnHope · 25/04/2023 16:05

Well done @CR7 - especially dealing with that added stress on the way, that sounds no fun at all! Now to relax for two weeks...

RunningOnHope · 25/04/2023 16:09

Was expecting an update today on our last little embryo which was being left another 24 hours to see if it reached blastocyst, but heard nothing yet so I've left a message... assume not though.

RunningOnHope · 25/04/2023 16:42

Ahh good news again. We were told yesterday one would go to the freezer, one not good enough, and the third would need to see if it got there today. Just had a call back and all three are now good enough to freeze! Can't believe it.

RunningOnHope · 25/04/2023 16:55

Thinking of you @charja100 - hope you've had some reassurance today, one way or another?

CR7 · 25/04/2023 17:01

Amazing news @RunningOnHope - back to relaxing now please

Triselly · 25/04/2023 17:05

Goodness that was so thoughtless of them to call you like that @CR7 , like anyone needs that cortisol wave right then. So glad to hear it went well though and congratulations on having your little embryo back with you! Xx

@RunningOnHope excellent news! So that’s one on board and three in the freezer? That’s wonderful that they’re all so strong!

@TheBirdintheCave My clinic said any bleeding before 9pm counted as day 1, it seems like there’s a real variety in what difference clinics say!

So we got a call this morning that 4 out of 8 eggs had fertilised, and we’re booked for ET on Thursday, hopefully some of them make through the next couple of days.

Getting spotting since yesterday and AF due on Saturday. Trying to not to ge5 my hopes up that it could be implantation bleeding as every month I get spotting before my period and get my hopes up.
Only thing is a bit weird is that I had a bring pink bleed for short period yesterday and today very light brown small amount of spotting. So far this seems different than my usual pre-period spotting but I just have to wait and see if AF arrives.

RunningOnHope · 25/04/2023 18:36

Rooting for those four, @Triselly! How have you been feeling today?

CR7 · 25/04/2023 18:46

Great update @Triselly !! Hopefully this week will fly by for you xx

So Thursday will be day 3 for a day 3 transfer of one or two? Do you know yet xx

Triselly · 25/04/2023 18:58

Thank you guys ❤️ it’ll be a 3 day transfer of one embryo (fingers crossed), they don’t ever transfer 2 embryos here sadly as it’s seen as too much of a risk, a shame as I’d love twins! Did you guys get the option of 1 or 2 embryo transfers?

@RunningOnHope felt really very sore yesterday but much better today cheers!

@Jennifer89 very best of luck that it’s implantation bleeding

@CR7 they told me that they look for a number over 60. When mine came back it was 221. I hope that helps.

charja100 · 25/04/2023 19:07

@RunningOnHope that's so amazing! This journey is so hard to deal with!

charja100 · 25/04/2023 19:09

@Triselly that's great news. Praying for your four!

CR7 · 25/04/2023 19:41

@charja100 they wanted me at 30. I was at 20 so i know have progesterone injections as well 🤣 but transfer went ahead x
