Anyone out there starting/continuing IVF treatment next month (April 2023)?

I’m 36, first time everything, and due to start stims early April. Wondering if there are others who might like a thread to chat/vent?

If you’re out there and in a similar position, let me know!

@RunningOnHope sort of. I had a cup of tea and a small bowl of porridge at 6am and then nothing else until after the EC was completed. By which time I was still a bit drunk feeling and bought myself a sandwich and a bottle of water. They advised at least 7 hours of no eating and drinking before the EC, water being the exception. Because even if you can't eat, you need to stay hydrated. As @CR7 said, it's because of the sedation during the EC. If I recall, and this might be TMI, so be warned; if you were to throw up while under sedation, you won't have the reflexes to deal with it and you could end up with it going into your lungs. This is why they advise against food and drink beforehand.

CR7 · 16/04/2023 20:33

@RunningOnHope it is nil by mouth from midnight so I ate at eleven pm ha xx

TheBirdintheCave · 16/04/2023 22:40

Crikey so many of us are having scans tomorrow 😂 Mine's nothing important really as I don't imagine anything will look different to last time in there.

Triselly · 17/04/2023 08:14

Very best of luck to everyone who’s having scans today, and hope everything is progressing well for everyone else here xx

Just an update from my scan - I have around 18 follicles now between 11mm & 20mm. They want me to continue with jabs and another scan Weds for a proposed egg collection date of this Friday. So good news really, although I know it's going to feel like a loooong week now!

I hope everybody has good news today, I'm thinking of you all x

CR7 · 17/04/2023 10:27

@pongom wonderful news! I'm just waiting to go in xx

RunningOnHope · 17/04/2023 10:31

@pongom that sounds really positive, so pleased things are moving forward for you!

My scan went well, I think. Six follicles are now over 18mm (up to 25mm biggest), with another couple coming up at 17mm. Is the 18mm line a definite minimum needed at this stage, or do you think there's a chance the 17s could still catch up?

Egg collection planned for Wednesday, waiting to hear this afternoon exactly what time it'll be and what time I need to trigger tonight. Feeling really pleased to be at the next stage but nervous about everything involved with EC, cannula, sedation etc etc.

CR7 · 17/04/2023 10:35

@RunningOnHope sedation was wonderful. I have never felt calmer (I don't drink) and I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling haha

Canula just don't look. My husband told me inappropriate jokes which shocked everyone and I was thoroughly distracted.

I've done three. If it was bad I wouldn't have done more than one

TheBirdintheCave · 17/04/2023 10:56

@pongom @RunningOnHope That's really great news :)

lemons44 · 17/04/2023 11:02

Hi everyone

I've been a bit quiet as I haven't had much to input but I'm still here and still downregging 😂😅 it's taking foreverrrrrr!! I start stims on Friday.

Hope everyone's scans go ok x

TheBirdintheCave · 17/04/2023 11:11

@lemons44 I'll be starting next Wednesday I think so it'll be good to have someone in the same boat :)

I'm delaying buying our medications until Friday just on the off chance that by some miracle I'm pregnant. Did anyone else do that? I'm so paranoid about losing out on £1000 😓

CR7 · 17/04/2023 11:11

My endometrium is at 8.3mm so they are delighted. (They want 7-8mm for this scan) Just waiting to speak to a nurse to find out when we are doing my transfer.

Fingers crossed for everyone with an appointment today xx

TheBirdintheCave · 17/04/2023 11:15

@CR7 That's brilliant! Won't be long now :D

CR7 · 17/04/2023 11:16

@TheBirdintheCave don't blame you one bit x

RunningOnHope · 17/04/2023 11:51

So good to hear @CR7! Do you know what the optimum thickness is for transfer? Could I end up too thick?!

CR7 · 17/04/2023 12:51

@RunningOnHope no unlikely. Difficult is if it's too thin xx

Triselly · 17/04/2023 12:52

So glad that it sounds like everyone has had some good news this morning!

My first scan was not great. They counted 5 or 6 follicles, and now I'm on stims for another couple of days with collection probably on friday, like @RunningOnHope .

I know 5 or 6 eggs is better than none, but I was hoping for more.

@pongom I can relate with the injections starting to wear a bit, definitely getting a bit bruised now but it's not umbearable.

CR7 · 17/04/2023 12:52

Transfer date - Tuesday 25th 1.30pm with a 9am blood test the same day to check progesterone levels. Xx

Triselly · 17/04/2023 13:06

Ah that's wonderful @CR7 , so happy your lining is sounding so good! Haha weird thing to say to someone, but that is great to hear!

OP posts:
Triselly · 17/04/2023 13:08

@TheBirdintheCave Yes i was absolutely worried about that too! But then AF turns up to poop that party. You could always take a cheap pregnancy test before y ou buy them?

OP posts:
WholeZebra · 17/04/2023 13:13

@pongom and @RunningOnHope brilliant news about your scans - try not to be too worried about EC and everything that comes along with it, it’ll be over quickly and well worth it.

@CR7 how exciting! Thrilled for you and your lovely thick endometrium!

All booked in for my planning meeting and bloods on Thursday - hoping for smooth sailing post.

TheBirdintheCave · 17/04/2023 13:27

@Triselly Is there a chance of there being more follicles visible at the next scan?

I will take a test on Friday at 10dpo and then order the meds once I've satisfied myself with a negative 😂 I think I'm still struggling with the idea that I'm actually going to have to go through with the IVF.

CR7 · 17/04/2023 14:28

@TheBirdintheCave understandable when you know what lies ahead xx

Triselly · 17/04/2023 14:40

@TheBirdintheCave I have no idea whether a couple more might potentially pop up? It'll be interesting to find out i guess.

I know it's very nerve wracking waiting to start, but so far I've found the experience much easier and less stressful than the waiting part.

And sorry it wasn't @RunningOnHope on Friday, it was @pongom ❤️

CR7 · 17/04/2023 14:42

Agree @Triselly xx and great for people to know it's not awful. Of course everyone will feel different but I'm four goes in and still here haha x
