IVF April 2023 - looking for buddies!

Anyone out there starting/continuing IVF treatment next month (April 2023)?

I’m 36, first time everything, and due to start stims early April. Wondering if there are others who might like a thread to chat/vent?

If you’re out there and in a similar position, let me know!

I have my scan on Monday at 10.30. Sounds like Monday is scan day for quite a few of us.

Regarding pessaries (words you didn't think you'd hear) definitely get yourself some panty liners. They even do thong ones these days (not bought them for years haha). I also bought some extra pants xx

Morning @everyone

So we've just had the call from the embryologist and I can't help but feel disappointed 😔

14 eggs
13 mature and injected with ICSI
5 fertilised
Now it's a waiting game to see how many make it to Wednesday.

When she said 13 we're mature and injected I was expecting much higher fertilisation rate having used ICSI. I did just question this and she said yes it's normally a 70% success rate and we only have 40%.

Fingers crossed for 5 day Blasts on Wednesday, I won't hear anything more until then apparently.

Anyone have any advice?

@charja100 these are still wonderful numbers but I understand why you're bewildered. Are the other 8 able to have a bit longer or are they sadly counted out?

The waiting game is mega hard. We had a fertilisation call on day one (today for you) and a second call before day 5. Are you able to ask for another update inbetween?

@cr7 She said they didn't fertilise so they've been discounted out. It's got me deep in research into reasons for such poor fertilisation rates when using ICSI.

She said they wouldn't call until then but I might call and leave a message and see if there's any news on Monday they can share.

I'm just nervous that if DH sperm is that bad, are these all going to fail too. It's so hard.

@charja100 five have still made it. My husband's sperm is in the top one percentile and not all of our eggs fertilised. Be strong xxxx

Ah sorry you've had a disappointment @charja100 - five is definitely still hopeful, I guess it just feels hard when you had such a strong start. No update feels really tough too - I'd definitely be asking for any news if possible! Keeping everything crossed for you.

@charja100 i forgot to say i havent had the egg collection yet but i was told at my scan that my ovaries are going to be difficult to get to because of blood vessels! So i think i will be like u bruised and battered afterwards.

@Flowerlover010 I hope you're not too bartered after egg collection. Advice to anyone who does need it is hot water bottle and painkillers! I alternated paracetamol and Codeine yesterday which really helped to get over the worse.

Thank you all, I know it only takes one and five is a good start. I think I'm just really disappointed that the conversion rate was so low when we used ICSI.

I'm pottering around the house and trying to do what I can to keep myself occupied!

TMI question - is it normal to be getting the same kind/amount of CM as if you were ovulating, while on stims?

Also how long before egg collection do they tell you to do the trigger? Just working out what the earliest EC could be if all did go well at my scan tomorrow...

@RunningOnHope I asked this question so I'm really glad you've asked. They told me that when the progesterone is introduced for a transfer it balances out or after egg collection if you're not doing a transfer, it will stop xx

@RunningOnHope Good luck with your trigger. My EC was 3:30pm, so my trigger was administered at 3:30am. I set my alarm for 3am simply because I didn't want to be bleary-eyed and half asleep when administering it. That was a strange morning! The proceeding 1 and a half days went by really fast.

@SarahShorty ah that must have been really strange! Did you have to go without food and drink on the EC day? I assumed they were always in the morning because of that. I'd be struggling by 3.30!

@RunningOnHope it all depends on the theatre lists. Mine have been at 8.30, 12 and 1.30pm.

Yes nil by mouth due to sedation x

How many are going in for scans tomorrow? There's me, @CR7 , @Triselly , @TheBirdintheCave - anyone else got stuff happening tomorrow? @pongom will you have any more scans this week or just keep going with the meds? @charja100 do you think you'll call tomorrow to ask for updates? How have you found the weekend waiting?

So thankful for you all, and lovely to have people to cheer on so I don't get too wrapped up in my own little journey!

@RunningOnHope yep I’ll be joining scan-club tomorrow! I’m in just after 8am for my scan so hopefully I’ll know a bit more about a likely collection date after tomorrow. The injections seem to be getting more sore everyday, just catching up on this thread now after a madly busy weekend and I’m thinking I might try the ice/numbing cream trick because I’m getting quite bruised now. It’s odd because I didn’t bruise at all for the first week, I suppose it’s just the repeated assault on my stomach 😂 it’s mostly the cracking headache after the jabs that I hate.

good luck tomorrow with your scan and to you guys as well @CR7 @TheBirdintheCave @Triselly Im rooting for you all and hope your scans go well! I’m hoping for lots of good news all round tomorrow ❤️
