TTC immediately after miscarriage

Hello ladies.

So this is my story. I am 30years with a beautiful DD, aged 4. We decided we would finally give start trying for baby #2 in May. However, as we had a big family holiday planned for 14 nights during May this meant that we were only able to try prior to going on holiday. So we figured that month was completely out of the question.

My period was due towards the second half of the second week away but Instead I had very sore breasts and a super bubbly stomach. I just figured it was PMT symptoms especially as it was accompanied by spotting.

The spotting continued, everyday. On arrival home, I did a pregnancy test, really not believing I could be pregnant since we were unable to even really "try". To my shock and delight it was positive!

I had some spotting on my DD during early pregnancy so didn't think too much into it. However, the spotting got worse. I tried contacting a local midwife who advised that as I was only 4.5 weeks pregnant there was nothing I could other than wait it out.

It continued, with period cramping pains and a lower bad back, although they were mild. The spotting colour changed to bright red and then on Wednesday (last week) I knew I was completely miscarrying. We are devestated but we understand these things happen. I'm also trying not to overthink everything as that's what I always do.

I've now stopped bleeding. And feel that I've gone through a bit of an emotional roller-coaster the last week. We would like to try again, straight away. So I guess I'm looking for a little advice.

The Dr told me it's probably best to wait a cycle before trying again but looking online there doesn't seem to be any benefit or logic to this if you know you miscarried earlier in pregnancy and have passed the full miscarriage. Do you think I will be fine to immediately try again without first having a period?

And then if I was successful would I just count my pregnancy from the miscarriage bleed? (father than 1st day of last period)

I was thinking of booking a ultrasound scan privately to check the endometrium lining is thick enough to support a pregnancy. Do you think this is wise? And if so, do you think 2 weeks following MC would be the best suitable time to book a scan to view the thickness?

Also, people have told me how common MC is and how I obviously must have found out super early in pregnancy. But I didn't think we did find out super early? A few people have passed the same remark ; " you found out early if you was only 4.5 weeks. Most people don't know until later" now I understand if I hadn't of done a test then I would have assumed this MC was my period. However, I was 3 days passed my due period when I tested so? 😳 Isn't finding out your about 4.5 weeks pregnant about the usual??

Sorry for the ramble. I guess it's nice just to write everything down 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Thanks.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments.

I enter the 2nd trimester next week and I'm going to try and enjoy it. The 1st has been full of anxiety and worry.

Can't wait to follow everyone in here journey. Sending you all baby dust for a healthy rainbow baby 🌈

WaitingWatchingPeeing · 02/07/2022 21:42

@Laurzz that's is such a gorgeous scan photo I bet you and hubby are on cloud nine this weekend ☺️

@Lauren441 yeh so likely we are very close if not the same DPO. Hope your having a nice time at CP and it's not to hard to hide your not drinking. Let us know when you've done your digi 🙌🏼

I'm going to follow your lead and only get my booking app once Iv had my digi 3 week+

Have had symptoms coming and going, the days leading up to testing I was extremely emotional and couldn't stop crying, since then have stated getting very car sick and bad back ache. Also had a wave of morning sickness but only once. How about you? Mine are a bit inconsistent which doesn't help the anxiety and keeping calm 😩

@yorkshiremumofone yeh I was the same, i have never wanted something so bad that's why I held of testing until 12dpo as despite it being mega hard (and I cheated and tested 12hrs early) I knew I would be worse getting no line or and unclear one but on a day where I wasn't sure if it was just to early 😩

How you feeling now?? Oh bless you! Yeah you just want constant symptoms!

I'm sooooo nervous about thinking it's not my month, I am literally scared of the date AF coming 😓 I think I'm about 4/5 DPO. It's so hard, it's literally all I can think about. You did so well to hold off testing so long!! I think if I test early and it's negative I feel like I'll be distraught!

Lauren441 · 04/07/2022 07:13

Well all my symptoms have now gone. Breast tenderness and abdominal twinges. And you know when you just have this deep down gut feeling. 😞 I feel horrendous. And I also feel horrendous being away and unable to even run to the shop for a test to offer myself reassurance.

Hope things are going well for you all though?

OP posts:
Laurzz · 04/07/2022 07:28

@Lauren441 Nothing I can say will give you any reassurance but my symptoms came and went. The twinges for me tailed off at about 5 weeks then come back pretty intense from 8-12 weeks. My breasts always remained tender (and still do) but i'm on another thread and also of them lost the breast tenderness pretty early on and currently 12/13 weeks pregnant.

Do whatever you need to do to reassure yourself but please don't be harsh on yourself.

WaitingWatchingPeeing · 04/07/2022 08:38

Oh @Lauren441 this sounds like mental torture 😞 how long until your home?

If it helps I was feeling like this yesterday, symptoms had dissapeared, nausea all gone and I was convinced my test today would be lighter but it wasn't so hopefully it's just a combination of symptoms fluctuating loads in the early days and also where you are away from home doing lots of new things and busy your less likely to spot/feel them?

I'm usually a strong believer in trust your gut but after something like a MC I think it's very easy to let your anxious brain take over and always jump to the worst

yorkshiremumofone · 04/07/2022 08:40

Oh @Lauren441 it's such a awful feeling 😓 just try to keep as positive as you can and don't get stressed I know it's easier said! Lots of peoples symptoms come and go a lot! I know with my first mine was coming and going!

The last couple of days I've had bubbling tummy, metallic taste in my mouth yesterday and I'm not sure if my boobs are tender or not! I hate driving ourself mad with symptom spotting and I'm only about 5/6 DPO!!

Maya12345 · 04/07/2022 10:46

@Lauren441 im so sorry you're feeling like this, not a nice feeling at all. I don't think any of us will truly be able to relax until we're actually holding a baby! I had some brown spotting this morning and freaked out. Waiting for gp to call me later. So many things ran through my mind. Apparently it could be the progesterone pessaries causing it but I don't know.
I haven't really had any symptoms apart from sore boobs too.

When are you home? X

Lauren441 · 04/07/2022 13:00

Thank you ladies! I REALLY need to read these posts from you this morning and you've all reasurred me and you're absolutely right I definitely need to remind myself that because of our history of MCs we are definitely more tuned to noticing changes, which may not necessarily be anything to worry about!

My tender breasts have returned and I currently feel slightly nauseous! I literally feel like I flick between feeling delighted I have symptoms and then the next minute feeling absolutely horrendous that it's another miss happening. The fluctuations in my mentality is absolutely insane!

I do think we are all hyper sensitive given the MCs but to add to this I also have a degree in maternity care and this also doesn't help! I think people think it's a blessing to have all this pregnancy and baby knowledge but I think it makes it worse!

I've not had a chance to individually reply as I'm currently walking through centre parks so will take some time later to directly reply to each of you later. We are home today so I'll have more of a chance on the drive home.

Lauren441 · 04/07/2022 15:02

@maya12345 - Sorry to hear you're anxious about the spotting. Did they call you back?

Sometimes it isn't always a cause for concern though (probably more often that not!). Our bloodflow would have now increased, caused by our rapidly increasing hormones, namely progesterone at this point. The cervix is particularly hyper sensitive during pregnancy and that coupled with the increase in bloodflow can cause brown spotting. Especially when the cervix is slightly 'irritated'. So for example, after sex or an internal. But it's not a cause for concern, it just shows your cervix is hyper senataive due to the increased hormones. I guess you could almost view it as a good thing!

I'm not saying that's what it is, but it's one of lots of causes to consider. We all (me more than most) instantly jump the most terrifying explanations, when infact there are also lots of good positive explanations too!

Hang in there, 😘

@yorkshiremumofone - thank you!

They all sound like good signs! 🤞🏼when do you plan on doing a test?

OP posts:
yorkshiremumofone · 04/07/2022 15:14

@Lauren441 I'm trying to wait as long as possible AF is due 13th, maybe on the weekend I don't know! I just don't want the disappointment 😟

Are you going to test again once your home?
Hope you had a lovely weekend away. X

Lauren441 · 04/07/2022 15:18

@waitingwatchingpeeing - you're absolutely right; we definitely do jump to the most terrying conclusions as a first thought.

Thankfully at the moment the symptoms seem to be back and I'm feeling more relaxed again (well... for now at least).

I totally understand how you were feeling yesterday, and you are most definitely not alone with the fluctuations in symptoms/lack of. The darker test this morning is a sure sign things are sitting in the right road for you today though, which is fab!

Babies #watchingwaitingpeeing, #maya12345 and #Lauren441 are already keeping us on our toes!!!!!

Lauren441 · 04/07/2022 15:21

@laurzz - thanks for the reasurrance. It definitely does help hearing such similar stories!

I guess we should (in theory) be greatful for the less intense symptoms! X

Maya12345 · 04/07/2022 16:14

Thanks so much!! I'm so glad you're feeling better now and can feel those symptoms again! Phew. God I can imagine how knowing so much about this subject would make you question everything! Amazing to have that knowledge though!

Thank you so much for your help there, really reassuring!!
Yeah I just spoke to my GP who basically and briefly reiterated what you said, hopefully nothing to worry about and probably irritation! Thanks so much for your help. These babies are certainly keeping us on our toes already haha! I feel like I can get more excited about reaching 5 weeks today now!

Xx

WaitingWatchingPeeing · 05/07/2022 17:54

Hi ladies how is everyone?

Are you home and have you tested now @Lauren441 and di you do your digi? So glad your symptoms reappeared!

Are you over the covid @Maya12345 and what happened with the spotting?

Sounds positive @yorkshiremumofone, getting closer to testing date, il be so impressed if you make it to AF!

I'm in such an anxious place, no symptoms today but I usually work from home and have spent the day commuting to the office and back to back meetings so I'm not sure if I'm just not in tune the same way. I keep checking for bleeding but nothing so hopefully just my anxious brain taking over 🥺 I'm testing every 2 days so I'll test again tomrorow but I'm convinced there won't be any progression.... THIS IS HORRID

WaitingWatchingPeeing · 05/07/2022 17:59

Probably worth mentioning that I started bleeding with the chemical on 17DPO last time and il be 17DPO tomrorow so I don't think that's helping 😭

Lauren441 · 05/07/2022 18:03

@WaitingWatchingPeeing - you're absolutely not alone. And I most definitely feel that awful pit of the stomach dread every now and then too. I think it would be impossible not too after the previous pregnancy. But you've got this!

Right now, you have no bleeding and the last time you checked you had a beautiful positive pregnancy line - the odds are most definitely in your favour - it's so hard to forget the positives, but you're pregnant and thankfully you're probably one of the lucky few to have quite mild systoms (like me). 🤞🏼 Even though want them 😂.

Just as you told me, your busy day has more than likely taken over so much that you've not had a chance to think about/notice them.

Do you have any symptoms today? Sounds stupid, but if you push your nipples is it sore at all? For me, this is the ONLY symptom currently and it's mild.

I did my digi today. I'm somewhere between 2-3 weeks.

@WaitingWatchingPeeing notttt fun is it?! Tomorrow will be a such a milestone for you, just try to take it all day by day I guess. Its so hard to not be able to look too far forward though! I'm sure there'll be some progression!
Spotting stopped pretty much straight after I saw it yesterday morn which is a relief.
Also got my 3+ on a Digi today which is bang on so I'm quite happy now, i think I'll stop testing at the end of the week l think.
Covid still messing me around with the nastiest cough but resting at home has helped.
Xx

This has so much to answer for! You're anxiety is going to be sky high, today and tomorrow. But imagine how you will be feeling at the end of the week, having made it past 17days. Positive thinking 💪🏼 x

Maya12345 · 05/07/2022 18:10

@Lauren441 I've hardly had any symptoms either apart from achey boobs when I poke them! Felt a little sick yesterday but think it's the constant covid coughing that's fooling me.. I'm glad we're not all dealing with constant nausea but a little bit would be OK for some reassurance.. Congrats on the Digi that's exactly right for you right now isn't it? Xx

Laurzz · 06/07/2022 07:54

@WaitingWatchingPeeing It's wrong we feel this way and should enjoy it but unfortunately for those who have experienced losses it's impossible to enjoy it. I agree with @Lauren441 treat it as a milestone.

Any time I felt my worry taking over I repeated the below affirmations several times.

  1. I completely love and trust my body.
  2. I will conceive a beautiful and healthy baby.

It didn't take the worry away completely but defiantly helped me.

Everyone you've got this 💪. Hang on in there!

WaitingWatchingPeeing · 06/07/2022 09:03

Thanks ladies, so so helpful as always and got me through to my test this morning. @Laurzz I am going to be literally mentally repeating thoes all day 🤍

Test I think is very slighter park darker (or is it the control is lighter) but it's so hard to tell, I don't think it's any fainter which is good... what do you think?

Congrats on the 3 week Digi @Maya12345 so exciting 🙌🏼

And on yours @Lauren441 will you test for your 3week at the weekend? I think I will all being well I make it there 🙏🏼🤞🏼

Thinking of you @yorkshiremumofone I know how had the final bit of the wait is... how are the symptoms?

@WaitingWatchingPeeing that's amazing!!! Definitely darker!!!

I don't know why I did it I did a stupid early cb test just now and obv negative. Don't know why I did it. I've been having the worst headache and nausea yesterday. I'm only about 8DPO too. Aeggggggg.

I'll be soooo upset if it doesn't happen this cycle.
