forgot to say....I have confirmed PCOS as well...

stuarts · 03/06/2008 13:47

OK

Obviously it is up to you, I can only warn you of what I know.

I actually know people that have been put into early menopause because they were prescribed Clomid incorrectly by a gynae (even the professional get it wrong sometimes!).

There was also someone on this site the other who had had the same thing happend to them - they were given clomid before the results of their second blood test were reviewed, it put them into early menopause. Had the gynae reviewed the results of the blood test clomid would never have been prescribed.

I really, really hope you don't self prescribe it but obviously we all have to make our own decisions and accept the risks/consequences accordingly

Good luck

supersteph · 03/06/2008 14:29

Dungungirl, I am so sorry about your appointment. Is there another clinic you can get refered to? I know I would not except that news. I would be straight to me gp to get another opinion. (sorry about my spelling) I know how desprate I wanted clomid, I was even going to buy it over the net if they did not give it to me. Lucky They understood how much I want a baby.
But if that is what you want you must be very carful on where you get it from and also it is best to be monitored while you take it. Why not surgest that to your gp and he may give you some as he would not like you using clomid unprescribed. (its worth a shot)

Viksam, I am not doing any exercise yet as I am worried about little pea. I am trying to eat healthy and I am taking my folic acid daily. I cant wait for my scan but I am very worried about what they will see. My first pregnancy was great, I did nor worrie about anything. I cant relax this time, I will be fine after I know my little pea is doing well. xx

DungunGirl · 04/06/2008 12:08

Hi lauralou

I am ok thanks. Have calmed down a little since yesterday. Spoke to DH about going private and he isn't really up for it, which I understand.

We have decided that I will continue on my weight loss programme as it can only help. AND in the meantime I will try and find out how expensive it would be to purely go private for monitoring while I am on clomid.

It might prove much too expensive, then in that case I will see whether my GP can provide any assistance.

So feel a little better.

Pinkali37 · 04/06/2008 14:02

I admire your attitude Dungungirl and congratulations on the continued weight loss! x

ChoChoSan · 04/06/2008 17:02

I am a bit gloomy today - did a test (really early) as my ovaries feel like they have been going bonkers this month, and I did not want to wait with my hopes raised for the next few days...BFN!

I hate this, I am not normally a POAS person - usually I am very patient, but all this Clomid, tempcharting (and MN-ing ) has made me a bit of an obsessive looney. I wonder how many eggs I might have lost to Clomid this month?

Hey ho, just felt like venting my misery a bit...!

DungunGirl · 05/06/2008 10:53

HI ladies

After a lot of thought, I have investigated private treatment and am tempted to go private even if it was only for a couple of appointments.

It is £160 for a session and I was told the consultant would not send me away without a proper answer to how I should proceed.

The fertility services manager I spoke to said that the consultant would properly evaluate whether I was ovulating ( not fob me off like the NHS ) and that he would check my insulin levels ( which NHS didn't want to do! ) in case I would be better off with metformin.

Sounds all good...

Should I do it? I am far from swimming in money....but it might it be worth it? Worst that could happen is I spent £300 and get told that really everything is not too bad and that I just have to give ttc more time!

xserialshopper · 05/06/2008 11:35

Hi DungunGirl. I'm a lurker and have been lurking since the start of this thread So I've read all of your posts.

I've never been tempted to post on this thread before, even when I got upset with the different things that have happened to you. BUT I have to say GO FOR IT. Book a couple of appts. YOU DESERVE IT. You've had some pretty shoddy treatment in the past and deserve some special, one-to-one, personal attention from a professional.

I'll be expecting your next post to say I've booked an appt....

I'm on the 40+ ttc thread by the way.

I probably wont post on here again until you've had your baby sometime next year Feb

sambrads · 05/06/2008 14:42

hi ya dungungirl how are you doing honey??

thought i would have a wee catch p and see whats happening cant believe that they turned you away

it just shows that if you have the money then its no problem!!!

i think you shuld go private as this is definately eating you up and like me it takes over your life .

you need answers and help and waiting another 6 months will end you nuts

as for taking clomid yourself if you are going to do that either take it day 1-5 as i did or day 2-6 as someone else suggested also make an appointment with your gp tell them you have taken it and get your bloods done on day 21 of your cycle to see if it has helped !!

if you feel ill at all make sure you see someon straight away .

remember you dont havbe to see a fertility doctor as you can get clomid from your gp as i did

sambrads

HELLO!!!! Yeah it's all gone rather badly wrong!
I was determined to take clomid myself...but I might float the idea past the GP and see if they can offer any support. Am getting cold feet...

xserialshopper

Hi THERE LURKER! I do feel like I have been through the grinder with this whole TTC and the NHS....I have lost heart a bit....but hey....I guess I just have to keep moving forward as much as I can.

Unfortunately though DH is still not up for paying for private treatment. He is determined not to spend anymore money TTC. We spent £300 on chinese herbal medicine in the beginning, DH spent £200 on some herbal sperm stuff and we have spent loads of money on ovulation sticks/machines, pregnancy tests etc etc. I think we have easily spent £800 just TTC this time. Crazy!!!! So he really doesn't want to spend another £160-300.

So as much as I want to....I might try the asking to be re-refered to another NHS hospital. at least for now...I know which hospital the private consultant is at, so might ask for that hospital this time.

cam75 · 07/06/2008 12:27

just wondering if anyone can tell me if you feel cramping like a period is due after taking clomid? I had a scan last week and my foillice is a good size so been like a rabbit every other day, i am due to go to the hospital next week for a blood test. I feel like a period is coming? not sure i do feel like i am ovualating as i have the dull ache plus i have the discharge the clear sticky type?? (sorry to be gross) is that good?(hmm)

viksam · 07/06/2008 22:59

Sambrads
Hi, how u doing? nice to see you still pop in on us now and again.

Dungun I bet it does feel shit right now but I'd just like to say that i had shit treatment from my doc's at the begining so after a few months i changed doc's and the difference is outstanding. So the NHS isnt all that bad, i personally think you should give them another try.
If u have PCOS its not a good idea to take clomid is it. I have no idea what it will do, but a pre existing condition needs specialist treatment. I think you have done really well with the weight loss but I really think you will be alot more comfortable with propper perscribed treatment. Go back to ur docs,if they are no help ask to change docs or see someone else at the surgery. I agree with ur DH not many people have a spare £300 hanging around, u really dont want the stress of debt and TTC. I know how you feel I have been TTC for four years now so i dont give this advice lightly.

cam I get all sorts of wierd aches and pains with clomid, dont worry, If ur being monitored like u say u will be fine.

steph When is ur scan? I can imagine that i would be the same as u, worried. Im sure it will be fine!Let us know!

Hi to everyone else,
xx

supersteph · 08/06/2008 10:54

Hi Viksam, my scan is on Thursday so only 4 more days. I have pcos and the fertility nurse said I need clomid to give me a better chance of making good eggs. It worked 3rd time for me, but the clomid did not work on its own. I needed metformin too. The two meds worked well together on the first cycle. I am still on the metformin as the fertility nurse told me to stay on them until my 6 week scan. If all is well at my scan, I will be slowly taken off them. Today I have sore bb, so I am happy to finaly get some symptoms. xx

supersteph · 08/06/2008 10:55

I am 5.5 weeks today.

viksam · 08/06/2008 11:00

OOOOOOOOh, how exciting, sore boobs and everything! God i hope Thursday comes around quick for u! Like i say let us know ASAP how you get on. Have u told anyone else yet?

supersteph · 08/06/2008 20:46

I have told all of my family and I had to inform my work as I do a lot of lifting in my job, and I am not risking another loss.
All of my family are really suportive. I have also told inlaws mum and dad. So yes I have told alot of people. I have not told DH sisters or brothers yet untill after my scan.
I had lots of suport of all the family when I was having my mc last year. Also every one knows I am having fertility treatment, so everyone keeps asking if I am pregnant yet. I am not a good porky teller. xx

DungunGirl · 09/06/2008 13:58

Supersteph
So far sound great! Fingers crossed for you! That early scan is only round the corner!!!

Viksam
They do prescribe clomid to PCOS women but lots of them team it with Metformin for maximum results. My GP told me that Metformin is mainly for Insulin resistance rather than fertility - that's where the clomid comes into play.

Went to see my GP this morning. Told her about what happened at the subfertility unit and that I was planning to take clomid.

She has written me 2 slips for day 21 blood tests, and has advised that we do those 2 first before clomid. If indeed they put ovulation into question, then she will re-refer me immediately to a fertility unit with confirmation in writing that I need clomid !!!!! If the blood tests indicate ovulation, even though she thinks then clomid would not do much good, she said it would be up to me if I decided to take it on my own. But even she admitted that a low dosage would be safe.

So here I am again, back where I started more than 6 months ago!

Can't believe it really...but at least I know what I am doing for the next few months which makes me feel better.

cam75 · 10/06/2008 15:18

hello ladies,
hope you are all well.
Dungungirl glad you got the dr back on side now. When do you start your clomid?? baby dust to you honey. Keep strong now and we are here for you.

Lauralou how are you?

anybody else i have left out.
Today i went to the hospital for another scan i ovulated last week so i was busy baby making (grin). The nurse said that my linning is thickning. I had a blood test done to check my progesterone level so i have to call back 2moro and find out what next. I must say that the metformin is working and i am on 3 tablets a day. At last the dr's are giving me what i ask for.
So i guess i better buy some test's to put aside.
my head is spinning it's happening so fast.
Anyone else waiting?

littlemissdaisy · 10/06/2008 15:39

Hi

I am back on the Clomid (100mg) this cycle after CP in April, I would have been twelve weeks tomorrow anyway got my follicle scan booked in at 9am tomorrow, just wondering if there is anything else I should ask about as this is my 3rd CP

danismum · 10/06/2008 17:01

Hi everyone, quick q about clomid. I took my first lot this month on days 2-6 and it's now day 12. today i've had continual pain just below my tummy, it's even affecting how i walk, and i have to be careful when trying to sit down!! Does this mean i'm ovulating?
on a scale of 1-10, i'd say it's about 6.

also, i'm worried that I'm not being monitored at all. i was just told to take 3 months of clomid AND THEN GO BACK IN aUGUST FOR NEXT APPT. STUPID CAPSLOCK!!!

hope everyone is ok, i really feel for you all. life really sucks at times x

danismum · 10/06/2008 17:02

ps i meant the level of pain is about 6 on a scale of 1-10!
