Hello guys just popping in for some advice.

I was put on clomid for LPD as I ovulate normally on day 17 of 26 day cycle.

Last month I took clomid and had a 23 day cycle. I didn't check when I ovulated as I was on holiday. Am worried that clomid has made my LPD worse!!!

I was so excited when I was prescribed it and now not so sure.

Does anyone know how soon after finishing clomid you ovulate? I know it will be different for everyone but wondered if there was a general pattern???

Thanks ttc for nearly 2 years after mc so really fed up and bored with the whole ttc now just want to be normal again!!!

Pinkali37 · 10/05/2008 09:30

Morning Poppy, so sorry but what's LPD?

I was clomid and all my consultant told me was abstain from day 10 to the evening of day 12 then do it all the way through to day approx 20 (like every other day). I never ever knew when I ovulated so had to take pot luck and this time it worked. x

gem2mum · 10/05/2008 12:48

Hi Poppy

I dont know the answer but I was having 35 day cycles and my first month of Clomid took it down to 29. I haven't used ov sticks but from the pain I was getting it seemed like I might have ov on day 14 and that was after taking 50mg on day 2 to day 6. Am now on 2nd clomid cycle and am waiting to see if AF will come on day 29 again I dont know what LPD is either?

lauralou1 · 10/05/2008 18:01

hi moonlit i have been on metformin for 2 1/2 years now for pcos .

i went to see my doctor 4 days ago and he said that a investigation onto metformin has come back that they arnt workng properly for fertility.

as u can quess i wasnt very happy lol

he will be monitoring every fortnight

thanks for your message back

how are you doing on clomid ?

ipanemagirl · 10/05/2008 18:15

Hello sambrands, I'm expecting a clomid prompted baby in Sept. I think I took it for about 6 months to stimulate my ovaries because they didn't appear to be hugely productive. I didn't have any side effects unless weight gain was one!
I would definitely back it up with something alternative like acupuncture or massage, a friend of mine conceived after years of trying with just three months of acupuncture. Fertility is full of mysteries isn't it?
My sister was a mw and she said she delivered 100s of babies of women who said they'd been told they'd probably never conceive!

Moonlit · 11/05/2008 02:26

Hi Lauralou - Unfortunately hun, I haven't had a prescription of Clomid yet. I know it's my weight preventing me from getting pregnant, but loosing the excess weight is a nightmare.

Metformin is rubbish for fertility???? Great I have been suffering from the runs for nothing .

I am glad your GP is monitoring you on a regular basis. Any signs of stomach cramps etc, get yourself to the hospital ok!!!!

I need to loose 2 stone. What about you?

LPD = Luteal Phase Defect

lauralou1 · 11/05/2008 19:21

Hi everyone,
I havent posted for ages. To be honest i have been struggling a bit. I have just started my third course of 50mg of clomid. Really wanted it to work by now. Im really worried that i have only got three goes left at double dose after this, it just doesnt feel like its going to work. I went to see my neice-in-law who is 3 at the weekend, really felt like she should have been mine, she has the same colouring and everything. God this sucks. Sorry to be so down but just cant figure it all out right now, its pants isnt it.

gem2mum · 11/05/2008 22:02

Viksam, dont give up hope. Lots of people have success after 6 cycles of Clomid. It seems to take a while for the body to adjust. I'm at the end of 2nd cycle of clomid and dont really expect it to work just yet. Why dont you try accupunctue too? I'v heard lots of positive stories of that.

Moonlit · 11/05/2008 23:40

Hi Lauralou1

I am lucky, I concieved my DD at the first attempt. She is now 2 years old. We have been trying to concieve DC number 2 since October 2006. My DD was the easiest baby ever, she slept through the night from DAY 1. I didn't want a big gap between her and the next baby, but unfortunately there will be a gap now. But that;s not end of the world.

The only thing that helped me get pregnant was the Atkins. The weight fell off and I was taking folic acid for three months before I got pregnant and I was excersing. It was easy then, but now I find these things a lot harder with a child and the extra 2 stone I am carrying about. I knowm I will get pregnant if I just loose the weight, but it's not easy . Ask your doc for Metformin. I live in the South East.

x

Pinkali37 · 12/05/2008 09:20

Viksam, Don't give up. I am pregnant with my 3rd course of comid at 50mg. I know exactly how you feel. I kept thinking only 3 more to go and what if it doesn't work? I even got my next 3 months worth of clomid at 100mg )(consultant said to up it to 100mg for months 4-6), alas i found out I was pregnant on day 27 (V early). I never knew when i was ovulating either so just had to go for it. I was discouraged when on my 2nd course and discovered I hadn't ovulated my level on day 21 was at 1(needs to be over 10 but really over 30). The month I got pregnant it had been 67.

Please do not give up. I started acupuncture the month i got pregnant too. Could just be a fluke but it really helped mentally. They explained it to me like my womb is a garden and his job was to make it fertile. In the end it made sense despite my usual negative thoughts on alternative therapies. xx

ipanemagirl · 12/05/2008 09:56

I really encourage anyone trying to get pregnant to look at alternative therapies to back up medical ones. dh and I found the process of 'trying' to get pg for years to be so soul destroying and so generally negative that you need huge positive input to counteract all that.

i've got pg three times in my life (one mc) and twice it was when we had all but 'stopped' trying and relaxed a bit. I think there's is such a strong psychological element to fertility (if the fertility is partially unexplained) that is still poorly understood. I think it's proved by people who think they're infertile, adopt and then get pregnant!

lauralou1 · 12/05/2008 10:10

hi moonlit i have been on metformin for 2 1/2 years but not on no more tell you truth i dont rate them

Nandos
I am so sorry to hear that it hasn't turned out. Take some time off from all this madness hun. The weather is nice, maybe talk your DP into going away for a long weekend somewhere to just have a change of scenery.

BIG HUGS FROM ME!

DungunGirl · 13/05/2008 08:51

Hi LauraLou

Welcome!
You are so lucky that your GP is willing to presribe you Clomid !!!! I am still killing myself to lose weight. It has gone a little pear-shaped though over the last 4-6 weeks...first I had the miscarriage, then I caught Slapped cheeck disease from my 3 year old, then I caught a tummy bug !!! So my health has been letting me down.

But on the good side, my weight hasn't gone up, in fact even though I have been rubbish, it has still been very slowly going down.

I weighed this morning and I need to lose 1 more pound/ half a kilo and that will take my total weight loss since November to 2 stone!!! Hooray!!!!!

LauraLou I have found that the combination of 3 times a week gym, a little exercise at the weekend ( I go for a morning cycle with my DH and DS ) and a Low GI diet.

On this combo, I have managed to keep a constant weight loss.....on average about 1 -2 pounds a week. OBviosly, there have been a few hickups and I also hit that dreaded plateau where I lost nothing for 2-3 weeks! But other than that it has worked better than I thought!

Moonlit I understand what you mean about trying to exercise and cater your diet when you have a little one about and also a DH to think about. It hasn't been easy...but I have in fact noticed that as now we all eat Low GI....our diet as a family is MUCH healthier and my DS loves our Saturday morning cycles . We make it fun for him by making the point we are cycling to either a park or a play area. We aim to do about a 3-5 mile ride.

Anyway, I have my next consultant appointment on 2nd June..and hope I can drop another 2 kg by then, because if I can, I would still have a BMI over 30 but I would feel like I had reached a mile stone!

At present I am 33.5 bmi... at my last appointment in March my bmi was 35.1 - so I was JUST over the 35 limit.

I so so so hope that I will get clomid on the 2nd!

DungunGirl · 13/05/2008 09:11

LauraLou

Me again! I always do this! As I forget to ask/say something before I click 'post message'.

Sounds like your GP is very reasonable. The consultant at the subfertility unit harped on about how dangerous it was for me to start on clomid with a BMI over 35 and how it was going to increase chances of miscarriage, complications in pregnancy...bla bla bla bla.

I was thinking at the time....Going by bmi alone, which doesn't work for me as even when I was a size 12 ( years and years ago) my bmi was 30! I was STILL classified as obese! I am JUST really heavy!

ANyway....it is a rule now at my NHS hospital that they won't treat anyone with a BMI over 35. So..wouldn't make any difference arguing with her!

Do share any info you may have on clomid and being overweight...what did your GP say to you?

lauralou1 · 13/05/2008 13:07

hi dungungirl

it was my consultant not gp

he ket going on about being obese but i just had enough and told him what about really obese people what do they do ?

so he couldnt really say nothing he told me about the risks of multiple births and that if i have twins i could develope diabeties and it could be dangerous for me .
he said ok he needs to see some other consultantsand my gp but i will be able to start them in 4 weeks i see him again 28th of this month .

what hospital are you with ?

DungunGirl · 13/05/2008 14:23

lauralou

I have got a woman consultant....do you think I would be able to talk my way into getting clomid if I swapped to the male consultant? From what a few others have said...it might swing in my favour ....

I am being seen at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Where are you?

lauralou1 · 13/05/2008 18:54

arrowe park hospital upton it is in merseyside

if your bmi is 35 thencan get it any way my consultant said my bmi would be 35 if i met my goal it is 40 at the moment

DungunGirl · 13/05/2008 23:46

lauralou

I am hoping that my consultant will let me have it at the next appointment.

I weighed again today and figured out that my bmi is now 33.5,

So I am clear of 35 for now....we will see.

I HATE this bmi rule!

ang14 · 14/05/2008 03:08

Any one taking provera and clomid?
I hope to start my 1st round of clomid soon.
I didn't really get a period with provera, just light pink brown discharge when wiping yesterday. It's been 13 days since the first pill. Should I take clomid? Has anyone experienced this?
