DungunGirl · 23/04/2008 13:52

I am so pleased to hear all is going well Pink.

cedar12 · 23/04/2008 14:04

Hello everyone I am on my first month of clomid this month I was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions I have. I had a scan today cd13 I usually ov on day 17-18 I am only on 50mg. I only had one follicle is that normal? I thought I would at least have 2 as I have been ovulating any way before the clomid. I think they put me on it as I only have one tube to give me a bit better chance. Sorry for butting in and congratulations to all who have had bfps.

nandos · 23/04/2008 14:16

Its nice to hear your baby is growing well pinkali ..
i just realised today that having a bump so soon might be due to multiple pregnancy -yikes! and clomid may give a higher chance of having twins or more..i hope its not the case with me cos' i prefer a singleton but dh would love to have twins.
usually my tummy is flat like a surfboard lolz cos am on the thin side but now even before having breakfast, i have a slight bump when i wake up, which i usually dont have before pregnancy..
cedar12- i cant really help u with your qn cos' i didnt get a follow-up after taking clomid...but i guess 1 big, mature follicle is good enough if bding at the right time. usually doc will up your dosage if too little follicles mature during ovulation. do ask your doc if u are concerned abt the number of follicles.

cedar12 · 23/04/2008 14:30

Thanks nandos I have tried to phone my consultant hes on holiday but his secetary is going to get him to ring me on monday so maybe he might up the dose next time if I dont get pregnant. How long have you been on clomid? This is only my 1st cycle, ttc 2nd for 3 1/2 years but had 2 ectopic pg during that time.

fruitl0ops2muchchoc · 23/04/2008 14:39

Hi guys,

Can I just ask a question?

I've got PCOS and have my follow up gynae appointment in August. Ive had LH/FSH blood tests and an HSG scan. Baseline scan in July. What are the chances of being prescribed Clomid in Aug? Or will she just send me off for more tests? I cant bare it anymore. We've been TTC for nearly 9 months now but I'm only on my 4th menstrual cycle. I know I dont ovulate because I am temping. Temped last cycle for the 1st time (AF was induced with progesterone) and temping again this cycle. CD26 and no sign of temp shift - I'm not expecting to ovulate at all. I obviously need help. But what do I have to do to convince them to prescribe me Clomid?

fruitl0ops2muchchoc · 23/04/2008 14:40

I meant to ask, How long did it take and after how many tests did you finally get your hands on Clomid?

nandos · 23/04/2008 14:40

i got pregnant on 1st cycle of clomid cedar12. didnt expect it to be so soon but i had no problems with me just that dh has low motility and we have been trying for 2 1/2 yrs before taking clomid..

cedar12 · 23/04/2008 14:59

Thanks nandos its nice to hear a positive story. I am ov from my ovary with tube this month so its full steam ahead. Fruitloop with such irregular periods I would think they would put you on clomid once all tests were done to rule out any other probs

fruitl0ops2muchchoc · 23/04/2008 15:03

What other tests could they do? If I dont come out of my appointment in Aug with Clomid I'll be devastated we'll be TTC for 13 months by then Thing is, I have managed to get preg before as we have a 2.5 yr old DS but I wasnt using any kind of contraceptive for 3 years before. Do you think I'll come out empty handed?

cedar12 · 23/04/2008 15:43

Sorry had to go and get dd from school. They would do bloods and maybe hsg to check tubes. But if your periods are so irregular I am sure they will give you clomid.

nandos · 23/04/2008 18:54

fruitloops, since u dont have regular period due to pcos, u can just ask the doctor for fertility pills -clomid. sometimes these docs just like to delay things. the first time i went to see doc and did scans, she said i didnt need it till my hubby got checked as well. they also told me to get a hsg if any tubal blockage but i was overseas that time so didnt have time to do it.
have u and your hubby/partner done any test yet? if not, they might not give u prescription....its sucks i know

fruitl0ops2muchchoc · 23/04/2008 21:14

Yup nandos Done the LH/FSH blood test and HSG scan. Baseline booked for July and follow up Gynae in August.
My GP said I would have to go through the fertility clinic at the hospital (St. Georges in Tooting, London). Do you think, now I've had these tests, my GP could prescribe me Clomid? He seemed to want to pass me over to the clinic. DP is supposed to have a semen test but I think it's pretty obvious it's me with the problem so he's been a bit lax about going plus they've made it really difficult for him to do it! It's not at St. Georges, it's only open for an hour a day and there's no decent transport to get him into central london for work. He'll do it if he has to but we already have a DS so I dont think he has a problem.

viksam · 23/04/2008 22:47

Hi Fruit I have just had my 2nd round of clomid. I have been advised not to temp because it can be unreliable. I had loads of blood tests and L&D before being perscribed with clomid. I can also tell u that treatment was catagoricaly refused unless DH has his test done. He really, really didnt want to do it but he didnt have much of a choice. His test was fine, L&D showed i had only one viable tube also raised FSH hense clomid. To prevent any hold ups i would advise him to get it done ASAP before ur appointment in Aug. Things dont remain the same forever, i was told, and his situation may have changed since ur DS. I hope my experience helps, everywhere seems to be very different and everyone has different experiences its very strange.

nandos · 23/04/2008 22:53

My hubby had his test done and the procedure is that he should send the specimen at tooting hospital(st georges) within 2 hours of 'doing it' . the specimen was supposed to be tested within 1 hour but they did it 4 hours later so i guess its the reason for my dh low motility lol(nearly all died or something : 13%). after we received the results in 1-2 weeks, the doc asked for another test! can u believe it! ..and later the next day i found out i was pregnant after having bladder pain and did a hpt...so no need for another embarassing test for dh.
hopefully u dont need to go through all the hassle we went though fruitloops. goodluck

DungunGirl · 24/04/2008 11:32

fruitloop

I still have not been given clomid, EVEN though my GP told me back in December that I should have clomid ( he wouldn't perscribe either even though they can! ).

I would say you MUST MAKE your DH have the sperm test done before August as they have a tick list. And ALL the tests on the list have to be done before they even consider giving you anything.

I was told by the fertility nurse that they WOULD NOT proceed to the next appointment until the sperm test was done.

Also, sorry to ask this, BUT is your August appointment your first appointment at the fertility unit? My first appointment at the hospital ( royal berkshire, Reading ) was in fact just a booking in appointment! Even though the letter I got said appointment with consultant on it, it turned out to be merely a fertility nurse, checking my weight and basically having a chat with DH and myself.
She went through the 'checklist of tests' and then booked us in for the real consultant appointment, which was 2 months later!

As most of you all know, my BMi was over 35 and I was told I had to lose weight before they would give me clomid anyway! So I did!

But come the appointment, I had somehow managed to fall pregnant all by myself! So the consultant swiftly packed me on my way.

ALas, 7 weeks in, I miscarried...

I called the fertility unit once I had been to the EPU and they did an internal scan and all. Seems on my record, it said that the follicle from which the egg ovulated from was immature. The nurse told me that I needed clomid to help my eggs mature enough to be viable.

BUT...Heres the BUT

I had to wait till my next appointment with the consultant which isn't now until JUNE!

So here i am 15 going on 16 months into TTC, one miscarriage under my belt and 1.5 stone lighter....but still no clomid.

I just hope that you have it easier than I have so far!!!

nandos · 24/04/2008 14:20

dungungirl,
if u really want the clomid, i have extras which i can give u but i dont think its a good idea cos' it might lead to over hyperstimulation of the ovaries if not checked out by doc..
But do tell me anyway if u want it. i could send it to you if u dont mind (p.s. i dont care what others might say cos' its personal choice)but i hope im not to blame if anything other than pregnancy happens

DungunGirl · 25/04/2008 09:59

That's very kind Nandos.

If you are sure you no longer need it I would be grateful! As DH and I have decided that if the next time we see the consultant she doesn't prescribe clomid, we are telling her that we are going to get our own anyway!

After the GP, 2 fertility nurses, the consultant herself, the sonographer at the EPU unit and the doctor at the EPU saying I should be put on clomid...I am still puzzled why I haven't been!!!!!

Of course I would only be appreciative of the clomid...anything untoward would be my own doing.

Let me know when you are happy to part with it and I'll get you my address.

How much would I owe you for the clomid? I know it isn't cheap...

THanks Nando!

nandos · 25/04/2008 10:35

Dungungirl,
maybe the GP forgot to write the prescription to you? they can be forgetful at times..
I think i have 15 tablets(50mg)left (dont know if thats enough for you) and i wont charge anythng cos' its not that expensive.
I can always get the prescription if i need it in the future so dont worry abt me.
Do give me your email address and will get info from there

FruitynNutty · 25/04/2008 12:47

Hi girls,

Thank you for your responses
nandos I was told St.Georges dont take sperm samples which is why DP is being sent to St. Heliers. I cant understand why St.Georges wont take the sample, it would be much more convenient with the tube station being round the corner. I'll get on DP's case about going, it's not that he doesn't want to do it, it's more the hassel of getting to work in Soho after. He had a day off a couple of weeks ago and was about to do the business but I looked on the letter and it said it only excepts samples between 8 and 9am! They really dont make it easy do they!

I'm so desperate for Clomid that I'm almost willing to buy it off the net I know that we've only been trying for 9 months but only being on cycle 4 it's getting rather tedious.

It's blatantly obvious I'm not ovulating, unless of course it's possible to ovulate on CD80 odd and have a healthy preg!

DGG I've had the initial 'booking in' appointment. I also thought this was going to be with the consultant and stupidly thought I'd be prescribed Clomid right there and then given the length of my cycles . However, I had the same as you; fertility nurse, checking my weight and having a chat. Unfortunately DP wasnt there as I didnt think he'd need to be seeing as the problem is with me. The appointment in Aug is the Follow-up. I'd better be seen by the consultant by then or all hell is gonna break loose!

viksam I've also been advised by some ladies on here not to temp with PCOS but I'm pleased I do because if I wasn't temping I'd of assumed I'd ovulated already this cycle. I had every possible sign of ov on CD13 but no temp rise. Temping has saved a lot of wondering and heartache - although I've also learned that it can also cause a lot of wondering and heartache!

I was wondering if I should be going for weekly blood tests to check for ovulation? surely this should be done as a matter of course? Obviously there's no point in having blood test on day21 but I would've thought it would help if they tested me weekly throughout my cycle?

FruitynNutty · 25/04/2008 12:48

Oops, it's me fruitloop, i namechanged again!

DungunGirl · 25/04/2008 14:27

Good to hear that Fruitloop. In that case the next appointment should with the consultant then.

Fingers crossed we will both be drugged up on Clomid come August!

DungunGirl · 25/04/2008 14:28

nandos

My email add is [email protected]

Pinkali37 · 25/04/2008 15:26

Fruity - I agree about having your bloods done every week after day 21. It must make a difference. I know with my 2nd course of clomid my day 20 (21 was a saturday) came back as 1.0 and I tried to convince a locum gp that I should be tested 48rs after and again until it raises but he said no. Anothe Doc said it made sense and he woudl not stop me from having my bloods done so often. That is the kind of advice you need. x

nandos · 25/04/2008 15:31

Thx dungungirl, wil email u soon
i have to do a lot of packing these few days cos' moving out by end of the month.. feeling so tired
Fruitloop- i think the GP usually ask your hubby which nearest hospital he wants to go to, and for us we chose st georges. where is st. heliers by the way? heard of it b4 but dont know where it is..curious
