TAKING CLOMID FOR THE FIRST TIME AND REALLY EXCITED AND SCARED!!!!

HELLO EVERYONE !!!!
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONCIEVE FOR NEARLY A YEAR AND WITH NO LUCK AND AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID THE DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED ME WITH CLOMID!!!
I TOOK MY PERIOD ON 23RD DEC AND TOOK IT DAY 1 _ 5 I AM DUE TO GET MY BLOODS TAKEN ON 11TH THEN 23RD IS BIG TEST DAY!!!
I HAVE READ SO MANY SUCCESS STORIES BUT I CANT HELP FEELING NEGITIVE AS I DONT WANT TO GET LET DOWN !!!

HAS ANYONE GOT ANY SUPPORT OR ADVICE OR FEELING THE SAME??

Fingers crossed and its not stupid thinking that. I think if you expect the worst to happen it can only get better. YOU WILL BE FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well its taken me 2 hours nearly to read all these threads which has given me so much positivity, i have a ds who is 2.5 and have been ttc for 18 months now had one appointment with fertility nurse who has taken my bloods at day 21 and some this morning at day 3 for my hormones, my dh has his sc test next mon and i am having an xray thingy done on fri to check my tubes are ok! how long girls do u think before they give me clomid? am getting so down about it i know i must think positive but its so hard as im sure u all know.. i am also overweight with a bmi of 31 but the nurse thinks they may give it to me but no date as yet!!! how often should i be doing it nurse said every 3 days but surely if im ovulating if should be more often than that!!!? ohhhh how annoying thanks for listening though!!x good luck to all you expectant moms how exciting

sorry also forgot to say, that in those 18 months all my friends have either conceived their 2nd or have had them i feel so envious sometimes..

Hi Rach, When I was TTC everyone around me seemed to look at their partners and get pregnant which does not help your/our state of minds!

Clomid, right, well, I was very lucky and went private for my Endometriosis from the first day they discovered it. (Not BUPA just a lovely DH) so I am so unsure about the NHS side of things. All i know is that my consultant and after my second operation told me he would suggest Clomid for 6 months and then possibly another Op if that hasn't worked. He wrote to my doctor and my doc actually prescribed it. My Consultant said that sometimes Doctors don't like prescribing it but mine seemed very sympathetic. I was going to get it privately but thank the lord it wasn't necessary. I had a friend however, that has PCOS had been ttc for 1 year and her doc just wrote the prescription as if they were jelly tots! It really does depend on areas and doctors. I think it unfair for them to play god. I was also told by a Professor in infertility that i would never conceive naturally and that Clomid woudl not work for me and that I needed ICI (IVF). That was the biggest blow I could ever have received. I now feel that he was conning me as we would have had to pay for it privately. My consultant is a god send.

Do you have any known problems?? And what area are you in?

no known problems as yet! live in sutton coldfield in birmingham, how long have you been ttc? and how long have u been on clomid?

Hi Rachie I have just taken my last tablet of my first round of clomid.Ill just tell u my story because thats all i can really go by.
I have been ttc for almost 4 years. I went to the docs about 18 months ago, had no luck what so ever so i changed docs surgeries and the new one was really good, really proactive. She booked me with the specialist at the hospital straight away. In the mean time i had several zillion blood tests and DH had his swimmers checked(which, incidently, he was non too chuffed about!!) It turns out I have an underactive thyroid and raised FSH, hense the clomid. I had a lap & dye in jan and that showed one tube bloked, but everything else was fine. 8 weeks later(three weeks ago)I saw the specialist who suggested i try clomid. I didnt have to request it and to be honest i would rather not be taking it at all but if it will get me to my goal so be it. I have found this thread ace, it has given me loads of hope! As for the bding, i have been told at least twice a week so she is about right i think. Others will say different. Hope my story so far will help u.x

rachie, have you not been given your day 21 test results yet? I've had these taken a few times and always get the result within a day or 2.

I've been ttc no.2 for 18 months as well and started clomid this month after my day 21 blood result was really low- showing I hadn't ov'd.

At first the consultant said that she'd like to leave me to keep trying for another 6 months before seeing me again , but when she saw the look on my face she asked if I would rather she prescribed clomid to try.

It may be worth suggesting it to your consultant.

I have answered ur question in my post above re clomid. I have felt fine so far, does anyone else know if side effects kick in from the first tablet or from later in ur cycle?

Lucky you didnt have any side effects. I had severe headache on the 2nd day of clomid till the last and I could feel my ovaries working extra hard, sometimes a little cramp too. Also the bloating..I feel n look like im 5 months preg just after clomid.

Hi Rach, My Husband and I had been ttc for 14 months but following my diagnosis with severe Endometriosis I think I pushed for whatever treatment I could get. Out other big stumbling block is that my DH is 20 years my senior and had a Vasectomy 13 years ago!! He had it reversed Nov 2006 and it turned out he had good swimmers but onyl 33% didn't have that horrible antibody thingy which prevent the sperm from fertilising the egg.

I was on my third round of clomid when I managed to get pregnant this time. Also only at 50mg. Was about to go up to 100mg but turned out I didn't need to. Also I had previosuly had the dye test and my tubes were what they call Patent (clear).

I shall let you all know how i get on today. I tell you what I FEEL ILL WITH WORRY Can't explain how I feel.

Any advise when I should start my ovulation strips? today is cd 8 (2 days after last clomid tablet) we have already started b'ding every other day. I really want this to be the cycle to work!!

Supersteph -U can use the ovulation test kit around mid-cycle or when you start to see the changes in your CM, thats what i usually do. I think bding every alternate days is good enough and the swimmers also get to replenish itself.
As for me, I didnt feel like my AF is coming but I have been dry as a desert for 4-5 days now.I think that is due to the clomid effect. Slight on-off cramps in lower abdomen for few days-forgot to mention that earlier. Lastly having headache like the kind when I go to the frozen food section in a supermarket and my brain nearly froze - that kind of feeling LOL
Anyways my appointment is tmr morning and will see how it goes from there...

supersteph i think there is a day between us, i am on CD8 and took my last clomid yesterday,have u had any side effects? I am going on holiday on CD16. I have heard say that clomid can shorten ur LP that means later ovulation......right? I read sooooo much i get a bit confused, a bit dim me!!Im hoping i can do that magical holiday/relax/conception thing that i have heard tell. I really would like this cycle to be the one too!!
nandos ur side effects arnt nice, how long did they last. Dont fancy ur frozen headaches!!

Forgot to give my tip (from Consultant).... Abstain from Sex from day 10 to the eve of day 12 then do as often as you can... well maybe not that often. My dh and I didn't do it this cycle as often as i wanted (because he started to feel like it was mechanical) but it worked. Don't forget that sperm hangs around longer than the egg so it is easier to get pregnant before you ovulate than after... APPARENTLY!!!

Sorry I have been a little absent recently. Was just reading pinkali's post and I must agree...we were surprised that we got PG this cycle but turns out the last time we 'tried' turned out to be 3 days before ovulation and the little swimmers hung around! So they can survive quite a while.

Viksam you must have been takin clomid days 3 to 7 then. I was days 2 to 6. Today being cd8. I have been havin twichin pains in my left ovary all evening on and off at work. Since i have been home it has stopped. Maybe this is a good sign. My last cycle my temps started rising on cd 30 and my period came on cd44. So I think I ovulated late. I also stopped intercourse about cd 25 and gave up hope. So maybe this higher dose will do the trick. I will find out monday 31st when I have my 14 day follicle scan.
