TTC Thread 14 ... Santa knows what we want for Christmas

Here we go! Thread 14 for the nicest bunch of women on Mumsnet

Thread 13 was very joyful and very painful for me, but what it has shown me is that even old warhorses like me can get lucky, so there's no excuse for all you nubile young honies not to deliver the goods! Come on now, Mama Hester expects you to do your duty by your fellow ttc-ers

Get ready now, 1 - 2 - 3, GO!!!

go to ebay and get one from there! the sticks are all sealed from boots and you can clean the moniter and reset it. it's cheaper than a new one anywyas, they're about £69 odd or something, or is it £99?

RudyDudy · 23/11/2004 21:26

A new persona is around £60 and I think the sticks are about £10 pm (though DH bought them last time so I can't remember!) It is SOOOO easy to use. The first month you do 16 pee on stick tests and put them in a machine that tells you whether to BD or not. Romantic or what?

It works by measuring hormones I guess but will have a look in the user guide and get back to you on that one...

RudyDudy · 23/11/2004 21:28

oh, and as for reliable - last time I used it I got pg within 3 months and the first time we got an 'O' sign and I know at least 3 other people who've used it and all got pg pretty quickly. Not a massive sample I grant you but all positive stories.

RudyDudy · 23/11/2004 21:31

nothing more technical in the book..."persona works by monitoring changes in the hormones which control your monthly cycle and identifies the days when you are at significant risk of becoming pregnant"

that is the other thing - as it is designed for contraception it can be a bit confusing as red means 'go' iykwim

forgot to say that after month 1 you do 8 pee on stick tests pm

Hulababy · 23/11/2004 21:33

Cheers Rudy Will have to have a think. Dh is not really into all this monitoring and prefers the "just see what happens way of thinking" but last time it took so long - I don't want that to be the case again if I can help it.

pooka · 23/11/2004 21:36

I LOVE a good gadget! Sounds fab. Hmmm - might ask for one for Christmas (I don't think!). May have to have a look at Ebay and Boots later this week.

munnzieb · 23/11/2004 21:38

well hula, if my dh had his way we'd just bd till we die!, i do the moniter thing, but do try to ensure that we bd slightly more around OV (then i give him the few days before AF and durning AF) to recover before starting the next month!

RudyDudy · 23/11/2004 21:48

I know what you mean hula - my dh is a bit like that. Typically wants it both ways - wants to bd at the right time but doesn't want to know when that is!!! It is difficult as I am planning on trying to keep an eye on dates and not necessarily telling him when it is but if he has lots of stuff planned then I may have to!

yingers74 · 23/11/2004 22:17

just dropping in again to wish everyone luck this month. Hugs all round and congrats to those who have got a bun in the oven. Spread that baby dust, fingers crossed, now where is that dh of mine.....................

BeckiF · 23/11/2004 22:44

Any help on CM? I had ew about 6 days ago but today have a thin creamy type ... is this the norm? Thanks!

alterego · 23/11/2004 23:01

I've just started using persona. It took a while to work out how to reset but I'm now on day 15 and this morning I had the little o (egg) symbol to say ovulation is in the next 1-2 days and sure enough I've got the egg-white mucus - I don't get this every month which is why I switched to persona after using OPKs for several months. I suspect that for me persona may be slightly more expensive than OPKs (£10 a month for persona as you have to use 8 tests as opposed to anything between £3 and £19 per month for OPKs based on using ClearBlue which is £19 for 7 tests where I buy it) as I have a fiarly regular cycle. However, it is comforting seeing the little o symbol to confirm that everything is working properly and I'm not imagining bluse lines etc. Anyway, what am I doing here - got to go grab dh for a bit of bding

Tania2 · 24/11/2004 03:43

Hi Girls s**t it just took me 1/2 hour to catch up and i should be cleaning up after the party.
It went really well had way too much food but the kids really had a great time and ds was so excited. they all looked so cute sitting at the bob table having their party food and singing happy birthday to ds. just melts your heart seeing how happy he was [warm fuzzy feeling] he is sound asleep now had to drag him away from all his toys to put him to bed, expecting him to sleep all arvo now!!
Congrats Piff it really does prove that if you relax about ttc it happens...i need something to distract me for a couple of months.
Welcome Kizzy212 and Colinsmommy hope we dont shock you too much iam one for being really open i have to just keep reminding myself not to talk about cm and all that personal stuff in RL i think some of my friends would be really if i talked about the stuff that i talk on here.
Jeddah would love to meet up but unfortunatly i cant afford the air fare but please cat me a photo of you all at the meet up
pooka best of luck testing

Tania2 · 24/11/2004 09:45

Its very quiet. Where is everyone?

geordie · 24/11/2004 09:46

morning Tania.....

glad the party went well....can't wait for our first one. ds is one in feb!

around but getting ready to go out for a walk with ds.

Nikkichik · 24/11/2004 10:10

Morning all. Yes, I'm interested in the meet up Jeddah but don't think I'll be able to come cos it's so far away from Devon! ;(
Anyho, welcome, big congrats and comiserations to those it's relevant to.
As for me, have a bit of John Wayne walk now and dpo 2 so we'll have to see. Dh has entered into the spirit of things quite well except for the day I was actually ovulating and said we really needed to get down to it - he said he had a tummy ache and didn't feel like it!!!- what do you mean you don't feel like it???!!!! ahhhhhhhh

Twiga · 24/11/2004 10:27

af arrived this morning
Suppose if nothing else means my cycle is finally back to where it should be after mc. Trying to be positive about it but am fed up.

geordie · 24/11/2004 10:29

((twiga)) so sorry about that....hope this is her last visit in a while.

Tania2 · 24/11/2004 10:38

((((HUGS)))) Twiga.
Geordie ds 1st birthday really felt like it was for the adults like a celebration that we made it throu the 1st year with out going insane IYKWIM.
This birthday i really wanted to make it all about him and his friends and i feel that i did achieve that. dont know if i will go to as much fuss until he is 5 with his kinder friends but we'll wait and see next year i proberly wont be able to resist. Finally got him to sleep after 9pm really hyped up on sugar now iam totally stuffed and really need to bd but dont have the energy.

Twiga · 24/11/2004 10:45

Have a friend who is pg just now and due not long after I would have been in March, am pleased about it but so glad that she is away in Oz and not back until Jan. I feel bad but I don't know that I could face seeing her at the moment, and am dreading March when the baby arrives, not sure anyone will understand and don't want to be a bad friend. Was hoping I might be pg before then, next significant deadline would have been 22nd Dec which would have been start of maternity leave - ironically is now the date for next af if cycle continues as normal. How do you get through everyone celebrating a new arrival when it should have been you too - sorry just feeling really sorry for myself today.

hester · 24/11/2004 11:28

Oh Twiga, big hugs from me. I keep writing things and then deleting them because they're not coming out right - really just want to say that I TRULY know how you feel and it stinks, doesn't it? Much love to you today. I'm having a bad one too and have already eaten way too much chocolate.

Tooks - great to see you back. I really hope you get your good luck soon.

Colinsmommy - welcome; it's great to have you here.

Tania - so pleased the party was good.

Munnzieb - there's no reason not to do temping as well as Persona; some people would find the extra information useful. Personally, I never got the hang of temping and don't get ewcm so was very relieved to be able to ditch in in favour of Persona.

A general note on Persona - I think it's great, too, but it does have a couple of disadvantages. One is that it tempts you to get lazy about tracking other fertility symptoms so you can end up missing the start of your fertile period and only starting BDing just before ovulation. For some women, this can mean the loss of a couple of fertile days and so reduce their chances. The other problem is that if something doesn't work right with the Persona it can send you a bit crazy, again because we can put too much faith in machines and shut off the other sources of information about what is happening with our bodies. Having said which, i wouldn't be without mine.

oh, Twiga, bad luck. Thinking of you

Bella23 · 24/11/2004 13:46

Hello - only occasional poster but long standing lurker. AF due tomorrow and can think of nothing else! Am trying to work but can't concentrate at all. Am convinced that am not pg but can't help imagination going overboard.
History is have been ttc for 7 cycles now. This is for our 1st. Annoyingly all friends have had 1st after only a couple of months of trying so feel very much alone. DH is great but very much of the frame of mind that all is ok and "things take time". I on the other hand have turned into a pre-occupied nightmare who can think of nothing else other than rushing to the toilet every 5 mins just to check in case AF has arrived.
Help! If Af arrives again this month am going to sooooo disappointed. To be honest just want to get the waiting over with as it drives me mad !
Sorry - needed to get that off my chest - need to learn patience!

hester · 24/11/2004 13:51

Bella, we understand! it is CRAZY-making, isn't it? Have you tried chocolate?

Best of luck for tomorrow. If af doesn't arrive, when will you test?

OP posts:
Bella23 · 24/11/2004 14:04

Yes am stuffing face with chocolate as we speak !
If AF doesn't arrive I have promised myself I will wait until Friday before I test. Feels like such a long time - have started painting the lounge in an attempt to keep self occupied.

moschops · 24/11/2004 14:10

well i am having the week from hell. yesterday i did that crazy hormonal wild woman thing again. got to work, totally blew up at dp about some insignificant little thing, stormed out of the shop and round to my sisters with tears streaming down my face. have convinced myself i am not pg, and that i am suffering PMT.

also having work related problems which is putting a strain on our relationship. certain people are showing their true colours and it makes me wonder........i am an honest person and yet it seems to get me no-where. the only thing keeping me going is my belief in karma......

well at least i have tonight to look forward to......Ash and The Darkness......i shall feel like a teenager again!!!
