So nearly nipped into WHSmiths today to buy baby mags..... I thought it was my hormones that drove me to spend ££££££'s on them in my last pregnancies, I guess not!! I was very good though and didn't... yet

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 10:56

lol i already own at least 10 books, so wouldnt , and ive already ready them... thats sad eh xx

NatalieJane · 22/01/2008 10:59

Was also thinking about the pregnancy vits, is anyone taking anything yet? How long before you get pregnant is it recomended? I've no idea.

Nothing sad about being prepared... though, if you are anything like me you will have to read them all again, I forget everything!

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 11:38

lol i will probably re-read them as i last read them before MC, i have vits in cuboard from last time but dunno when we should start taking them?? xx

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 11:51

Hi all,

Natalie - about your thread. People are so insensitive, pg seems to be everyones business. Mind you I am sure I have been guilty of being insensitive myself before. I once asked my cousin if she was thinking about having any more children, ds1 was 3, and she replied "we are working on it!". Looking back that was such a rude personal question to ask but at the time it seemed a normal question.

Re: vits, I have read that 3 months before is ideal to be your bidy in shape pre-ttc.

I have so far avoided books and magazines. Know when I do it will be a slippery slope. I remember how addicted I became to wedding magazines in 2004 I had piles of them by the time I got married and that was just a wedding, I can't imagine what my baby mag addiction will be!!

Diege · 22/01/2008 11:52

Sun, sun?? Grey and raining here . Re: folic acid, the recommendation is 3 months before ttc to get it into your system, but not many women would be that organised, so not end of the world if it's taken when you find out you're pregnant. I for one have been taking folic acid for a few weeks now, though have forgotten a few times. Not going on pregnacare just yet - will probably stick with just folic until I get a bfp, which could be many months going on my last pregnancy!

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 12:19

lol its lovely here love the sun cheers me right up!

gonna start my vits in march i think, gonna try not to read until BFP tho xx

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 12:37

Yes the sun is still shining here too. BB we are pretty close so the weather is likely to be similar although it does seem to shine more south of the hill then it does up here. What a surprise, was not expecting good weather, not that it makes much difference as I am stuck at my desk, but at least its nice to look at the window and see blue sky. Make the most of it, the forecast is rain tomorrow.

Diege, I think you might be on to a good idea there. I will probably start taking a good multi vit next month but wait till about April to start taking Folic Acid and yes maybe swap to Pregnacare when/if I get a BFP.

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 12:38

I think the diet might start in Feb as well!

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 12:55

Also, can I ask if anyone is doing the sort of mad cycle charting that seems to go on, e.g, opk, temping, CM watching etc?

Not sure I will bother with the opk and temping (probably not that effective with an irregular cycle) and would put far to much pressure on, not sure I want to know "today is the day". Would rather just have BD every other day at my most likely times of my cycle (and maybe unlikely times as well ). Can't stop myself CM spotting though (sorry if thats TMI), its actually quite interesting as I have never paid much attention to it , never even considered that what my body is doing down there is a good indicator of whats going on inside. Maybe I am just getting carried away but recording whats going on actually feels like I am being constructive.

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 13:04

Playing can you educate me?? what is CM watching and OPK? and temping? i Feel a fool!

I was gonna take asda's version of preg multi-vits, can you educate me about pregnacare too? is it different? x

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 13:17

Hey BB,

I am not an expert, never done this before just spent too much time on other threads, so it worth checking them out as they know what they are talking about!!

Temping is literally as it sounds, take you temperature (with a sensitive digital themometer) everyday first thing in the morning before you get up at the same time and chart it. The theroy goes just before (or is after) you ovulate your temperature goes up (or down). Would have to check out how to do it properly, there is a temping thread.

opks are ovulation predictors sticks which work on saliva or urine. Not sure exactly how they work but again you chart it throughout the month and it is suppose to indicate either that you are about to ovualte or that you just have. Again not sure which.

CM is cervical Mucous (sorry if that TMI). The theory is this changes throughout the month and when you are about to ovulate it gets almost like egg whites, clear and stretchy. A little foul really, but quite easy to check when you are going to the loo. Not all women get this though so it is not a sure fire sign, but I think I do, so wanted to keep an eye on it.

There are all sorts of other weird and wonderful things people do (such as monitoring cervix position) btu I am way out of my depth there!

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 13:18

I am sure there isn't much different between multi vits and pregnacare. They main difference would simply be that pregnacare has been specially formulated to provide a pg women with all the vits she needs. Its just focussed on the slightly different nutritional needs. Def, not essential, but I want to do everything I can

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 13:20

To be honest there are loads of people using these techniques on other threads so they are the experts not me!

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 13:25

aw well thanks for the info, think i'l try and be relaxed about it then if not got BFP after about 3 months will insanely like possessed woman calmly start temping or something, will def go for pregnacare tho xx

Diege · 22/01/2008 13:30

Some good advice there PLAYING. Lol, I've always been confused too about whether ovulation 'signs' mean you just HAVE ovulated, or are going TO ovulate the next day. If the former, I suppose you would have to have pretty regular cycles to predict for the next month! Personally speaking I found the CM sign the most accurate, though don't get it every month. Remember using Ovulation predictor kits with dd3, that never really seemed to work. The month I fell pregnant I apparently never ovulated according to the sticks! Oh and the main differentce I think with multivits compared to pregnancy vits is no vitamin A in pregnancy ones, and maybe a bit more iron

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 13:42

BB -Might be the best plan, particularly as you're young. I think all these techniques can sometimes increase the stress of ttc so actually make them less effective! Just wondered if anyone was using their time waiting to monitor their cycles in a way that may be useful when we actually go ahead and ttc.

NatalieJane · 22/01/2008 14:50

Gosh, you have all been busy

Playing I also do the EWCM thing every month It worked when TTC'ing DS2

I've never really done any of the other things, I do seem to remember there is something else you can do with saliva, you need an instrument (not musical, something I can't remember the name of!) you lick the end of it and as you are about to OV the saliva changes pattern, bit like snow flakes. No idea if all the things really work or not though, as Diege says the OPK's aren't always reliable, and even temping can be a bit hit and miss because you body temp. flucuates for many more reasons than just OV'ing.

I think other than the EWCM checking, which is sort of habit now I won't be touching anything else just yet.

Will however be popping vits and anything else to try and make sure I don't MC again, really not looking forward to the first few weeks of the pregnancy! I am gonna be a nervous wreck!

BeMyLilBaby · 22/01/2008 15:13

Whats EWCM?? x

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 15:15

Hi Natalie,

Yes we have been busy today, for me I think its work avoidance, just cant seem to concentrate at anything for more than 30 mins!

Glad I have a EWCM spotter pal! Thought maybe I was going a little too far as I am not trying yet but wanted to see if I could spot a pattern if I tracked it over several months. It might suggest roughly when I ov to make things a little easier. If there is no real pattern at least I will be used to looking for it and what it looks like so I wont get it confused with DHs swimmers like some people seem to!

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/01/2008 15:16

Egg White Cervical Mucous (cant spell). When your CM gets to the stage where it suggests you are ovulating
