Last time with ds the consultant thought it was a waste of time me being on it in the first place. However the nhs seems to be recognising the use of progesterone a bit more. I’ll let you know what the advice is. Xx

Just to add on the progesterone convo... I had mine tested at the epu at 5.5 weeks pregnant, it was really good at 120. However when speaking to the junior sister I asked if it could drop and she said when she joined the role she didn't think so but have since known women who levels have. So she called my fertility consultant who reluctantly prescribed it for me as I said this is my final shot and I would rather try everything and not have regrets. Anyhow, junior sister said it would be from a heartbeat so timing is fine but then said after that the fertility consultant said before 6 weeks, so I was ok to start it!?!?
So I'm on it, it's messy shite but at least I'm trying. The fertility consultant warned that it could mask miscarriage though but I was ok with that as have another scan booked in at 8 weeks on Friday. So we will see 🙏

So interesting this whole progesterone debate, I had two NHS fertility consultants, my GP and one private fertility consultant tell me to take it from 2 days after ovulation. Then a different private fertility consultant and a locum NHS GP told me it was a waste of time! My conclusion was that they don't really know whether it makes a difference or not but the miscarriage charity Tommy's supports prescribing it and if they support it there has to be a valid case for taking it.

The doctors who supported taking progesterone all told me that it can mask miscarriage but that it's still worth taking it just in case it is a viable pregnancy and that it wouldn't do you or the baby any harm.

Slept for Britain this weekend and that seems to make the biggest difference with the morning sickness. My poor other half is trying so hard and is affronted at me turning down food I'd normally love, but I think he's understanding the food aversions a bit more now. Headspace Guide to Pregnancy is so good and thoroughly recommend it for the conception period too. I'm feeling bad about the horse not working just now, but it's been hard to find someone who can ride. Might just have to accept she's going to have the first trimester off then can start doing ground work in my second trimester once energy levels start to come up again.

I asked whether progesterone could mask miscarriage and was told it could but if having regular early scans it wouldn’t be for long. Also my first pregnancy was a mmc and I found out 4 weeks after the baby stopped. I’d had no signs anything was wrong, in fact I was vomiting daily. I wasn’t on progesterone then. I guess my point is mcs don’t always show symptoms anyway so it’s worth trying xx

@Lastyearttc I’m so pleased everything is going well. Good luck for your next scan. I’m really impressed with your EPAU. They sound really on the ball. I wasn’t offered a progesterone test. My 8 week plus 4 scan was fine though and I have another one tomorrow at 10 plus 4 eek. Xx

@ponymum1980 I’m so pleased it’s going well. I think for a lot of people the first trimester is a right off. The sickness and food aversions make it complicated. I’ve found the only way through it is to go with it and not expect too much. I hope you get some better days soon. Xx

It's so nice to see so many of you with your bfp it does give me some hope when I'm feeling rubbish about it all!

Hey everyone - can I join? 👋

I was in the 35+ thread but I got pregnant, had a MMC (my second) and in the meantime I turned 40! It’s been 2 cycles since said MMC at 12 weeks. I’d seen heartbeat earlier at a private scan so was a little hard but I do already have a 2.5 year old so it wasn’t as rough as it could have been - emotionally!

Didn’t get pregnant last cycle. Should’ve hopefully ovulated a couple of days ago so here’s that interminable wait again. Fingers crossed and lovely to see success on this thread!

@Pamparam welcome to the thread. I’m so sorry to hear about your mmc. My first ever pregnancy ended at a similar stage. It’s so heartbreaking. Wishing you the best of luck for this cycle. Xx

@Marvellouslymadmum I’m so glad it gives you hope. I do sometimes wonder how much to post on this thread. Would hate to make anyone feel bad. I know how horrible it is to try and lose at this age. So we really are very grateful and feel lucky to be in this position. Xx

@Catconfusion wonderful news! I hope the nausea settles down soon for you too.

@Marvellouslymadmum I'm glad the positive stories on here are giving you hope. I too try and be sensitive with what I share currently as I want my posts to encourage rather than upset others.

I will be 20 weeks on Thursday and have the anomaly scan on Friday and I think we're going to find out if we're having a boy or a girl!

I have a very obvious bump now and baby began to move last week so am enjoying getting used to the flutters and bubble sensations.

Hi to everyone currently waiting for their bfps and those who have them. I hope you're doing ok and enjoying the sunny weather today xxx

Thank you @Littlemiss41andfabulous Good luck for your anomaly scan. How lovely to find out the sex. It really helped me to bond with my ds once we knew. You’re nearly halfway there! Xx

Aww so happy for you @Catconfusion, I hope the rest of the pregnancy goes great for you! Keep us updated. I had a 16 week scan a couple of days ago and still found I was nervous and holding my breath until the sonographer says "there's baby and the heartbeat" and it'll probably be like with every scan till he's born 😅 (yep, he. It's a boy! 💙) Good luck with your scan too @Littlemiss41andfabulous! Do you have any predictions with the gender? I can't wait til I start feeling the flutters and kicks, I think it's still a little early yet.

Welcome to all the new posters! Thanks

@Catconfusion thanks for the well wishes, my first one did too, I thought/hoped my bad luck would be a one off, especially as I had an early scan at 8 weeks this time and all was well (first time round it was sized just 5/6 weeks). Ho hum, at least trying is fun… for now!

So glad to hear all is measuring well with you, good luck for dating scan!

Exciting for your scan @Littlemiss41andfabulous. Keep us updated. And @sabtom too. I felt movement at 19.5 with my first.

Hi @Pamparam I remember you from the other thread, I am sorry to hear if you're loss

@Catconfusion no please do keep posting! I have days where I just feel what's the point it's just never going to happen then I come on here and hear all the good news and I know there's still a possibility! So glad your scan went well xx

@Littlemiss41andfabulous that's amazing news! So pleased for you - it's gone so fast!

@sabtom as well! So happy for you all, congratulations on your scan and finding out your having a little boy 💙

Aww @sabtom congratulations on your baby boy. Boys are so much fun. My ds makes me smile and laugh everyday. I would be happy with another boy. I thought I’d want a girl but I’ve loved being a boy mum and another one would be an absolute blessing.

I was 20 weeks when I felt movement with ds and I think that’s normal for a first. I might be going crazy but I felt some twitching as the baby moved during my scan. I know it’s early and baby is small but it felt like those first flutters. A friend of mine had similar at this stage.

I hope you feel something soon. It could be anytime now. Xx

Catconfusion · 08/09/2021 05:12

@Pamparam I’m so sorry it happened before. It’s such horrible luck. It also ruins pregnancy for the future because it’s difficult to just trust the process. I hope when it happens for you there’s lots of support through that early stage. I’ve been having fortnightly scans at my EPAU which has really helped with the anxiety.

I do hope you get some good news soon. Xx

Catconfusion · 08/09/2021 05:16

@sabtom I completely identify with the scanxiety. It wasn’t until I felt proper movements I felt a bit more chilled. Even then there’s that worry something unexpected will come up. Will you have the growth scans? Roll on that 20 week scan for you. Xx

Catconfusion · 08/09/2021 05:22

@Marvellouslymadmum thank you, I remember feeling like that. It is nice to know ladies our age can be successfully pregnant. My midwife was saying they have record numbers of women over 40 on their books at the moment. She even asked if I’m planning another after this. I reminded her I’ll be nearly 43 when the baby is born. She said there’s still plenty of time, even though it would mean a third c section. I can’t see it happening to be honest but it was nice to hear the midwife thought it could. Xx

@Catconfusion yeah, I think when I start feeling regular movements I'll probably relax a lot more a start enjoying the pregnancy. I have my 20 week anomaly scan on the 12th October but I'll actually be 21 weeks 4 days. Hopefully the movements start happening before then or I might need another private scan for reassurance 😅

Report
Catconfusion · 08/09/2021 09:43

@sabtom I remember that feeling so well with ds just before my 20 week scan. It felt a bit like being limbo. The movements make everything better once they start. It might not be too long for you. Is your placenta anterior or posterior. It probably won’t be too long. Xx

Report
sabtom · 08/09/2021 09:52

It's posterior, but the midwife said it can move.
