Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@notyetamumbuttrying @rocky89 oh wow, I didn't know that. Annoying they wouldn't see you when you're just on the cusp. I do have the panic of it not happening so it's good info to know. Xxx

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 14:06

@Peach1204 I'm calling up on the 1st September to say I'm in month 12 now, see me goddamit lol! But hoping we don't get to that point!

Poppyismyfavourite · 22/05/2020 14:19

Well I'm using two apps - P tracker and femometer. P tracker says I ovulate on the 23rd, but femometer says 20th. We had sex on 18th and 20th (and planning to tonight and 24th) so I guess we'd still catch it?
I'm trying to monitor CM, but it's always a bit different the day after sex anyway so it's difficult to say...

My cramps are back Sad

I was telling myself the cramps on 7-8dpo we're implantation cramps (lower abdomen, felt almost prickly, not like usual cramps) then nothing, but past hour cramps are here but only high up on my left side, not quite painful, but enough to make you take a breath...I was quite content with having no symptoms as I can't go crazy if I don't feel anything!

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 15:06

@notyetamumbuttrying I hope you don't have to get that far either! Wouldn't it be so cool if everyone on here got their BFPs! It would be so exciting to tell everyone on here! Xxx

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 15:38

It would be great @Peach1204!! Here's hoping eh Smile

MintGreenLife · 22/05/2020 15:39

@Poppyismyfavourite ah fair enough. TBH I'm not paying a huge amount of attention to my apps as this is the 2nd cycle since coming off the pill for me, so doubt my cycle will line up perfectly with what my apps say. Yeah totally, that makes sense :) I'm only using OPKs to get used to my cycle mostly, and we are DTD every other day also, think thats the best strategy as that way you can't really miss your most fertile days x

MintGreenLife · 22/05/2020 15:41

@Rocky89 ah I feel for you. I'd try your best not to read too much into any symptoms, although that's easier said than done. I'm not looking forward to my first experience of the TWW as I know I'll be jumping at every tiny little thing. I get really sensitive/sore nipples a few days before AF, so I know if I get that I'll be worrying. Keep me posting on how you're getting on xx

Daffodil21 · 22/05/2020 16:41

@MintGreenLife glad you're about to hit your fertile window - good luck!! Although of course that does mean the dreaded TWW is looming!

MintGreenLife · 22/05/2020 16:44

@Daffodil21 thanks :) this will be my first experience of it, eeek!

Daffodil21 · 22/05/2020 17:19

@MintGreenLife it turns me into a crazy person sometimes haha

SaraVB · 22/05/2020 17:24

Wow I missed a lot today! Unfortunately my OPKs still weren't delivered so doubt they'll be here over the weekend which means I'll most likely have to wait until next month to use them.

@MintGreenLife I'm also supposed to be ovulating sometime next week so going to try DTD as much as possible. Seems my Oh is the only one that's not too keen on doing it for the sake of TTC - just my luck! Difficult to try to make something spontaneous when it's being timed to perfection. Haha

@Rocky89 yes try not to get carried away symptom spotting... seems completely unreliable and honestly not sure how much of it happened anyway before AF and we just never noticed it. Easier said than done I know..

SaraVB · 22/05/2020 17:25

@Daffodil21 don't worry I think it's normal. I'm a very relaxed easygoing person and just experiencing one TWW made me totally lose my mind!

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 17:42

Hi everyone

I'm very new to mumsnet and TTC. Not long off the pill and after a withdrawal bleed last month see to now have first proper period (I hope!)

Have taken the decision to not tell anyone we're off the pill / trying - just to avoid any pressure! So nice to have some people in the same boat to chat to 💓

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 17:50

Thanks guys, I know you're all right, it's exactly what I'd be saying to you haha, just never experienced such a long two weeks haha.

Hi @HJen22, you're in good company here, were mostly all in the same boat! I too haven't told anyone, seems weird that something so important is so much easier talking to strangers about, but like you said, its less pressure and can talk to people who want to talk about TTC!

Baby dust to all xxx

Daffodil21 · 22/05/2020 17:57

@Rocky89 I'm sort of the opposite now. Because it's been particularly long for us I would chat to anyone who asked! Of course no one does but I have a few friends who are probably bored by the whole saga by now!

It's nice to chat to you ladies though, it actually brings some of the excitement back rather than it just being a long slog! I hope no one is disheartened by my experience, we are in the minority!! Everything crossed for everyone!

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 18:07

@Rocky89 hello 👋🏻 yeah I feel like I need to talk about it with someone other than my OH haha!

I actually thought I'd gotten pregnant before AF arrived today and was away to get a test. Did think, bloody hell that was quick haha! Didn't really get any symptoms last month before the withdrawal bleed but seem to have had every symptom under the sun on the lead up. Kinda forgot what a period was like (ouch, the mini pill was a savour for this!) so got my hopes up!

Wishing everyone luck and thanks for tips above! I've been taking folic acid since I came off the pill, haven't really drank much but need to cut down on coffee.

Vil10 · 22/05/2020 18:09

@HJen22 welcome!
Does anyone else feel like everyone around them is pregnant? I have 6 friends in my friendship group already who are pregnant, went on a walk with another friend today and she told me she’s 9 weeks, obviously I am so so happy for all of them and I cannot wait to enjoy this journey with them but a part of me is a bit jealous too! Does that make me a bad personConfused

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 18:12

@Daffodil21 Happy to bring the excitement back for you, some of us said at the beginning, I have full respect for women who have to go through this for months, this is my first cycle trying and this tww is excruciating!! Yes you're right, I think if this was a little way down the line I'd talk to everyone about it!
So where are you in your cycle this month?

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 18:17

@Vil10 no that absolutely does not make you a bad person...unless I'm a bad person too haha! But yes I do find everyone around me is getting pregnant! Our time will come though!!

@HJen22 omg mini pill I didn't realise until coming off! I had "periods" while on it but never had cramps or any kinds of bloat, gas, boob pain, just had the messy part, but weirdly mood wise I feel amazing since coming off it, not going back! How do you feel moodwise? Where are you in your cycle now Hun?

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 18:23

I was just doing an order on amazon and wanted the free delivery! So added the wellness tablets for men and some lubricant that aids the sperm movement. At least we are then both doing our bit! Xxx

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 18:39

@Vil10 I feel like everyone is asking me when I'm going to get have a baby 🙈 and also yes, feel like everyone else is pregnant!!! Doesn't make you a bad person at all! And on the one occasion before lockdown i went out and didn't drink everyone was asking me if I was pregnant!!

@Rocky89 I had no period at all on the mini pill or symptoms when I should have probably been due. But this week had it all, bloating, gas, boobs feel huge, dizziness, tired! And I'm grouchy haha! I was due yesterday according to my app after last months and got it today so it's looking at around a 29 day cycle, this is just my second month TTC, how about you? X

SaraVB · 22/05/2020 18:43

@Vil10 of course you're not a bad person! You just would like to be in the same position. My best friend is pregnant too, she's the only person I've told that we're trying and she's been a big comfort to me having gimme through it all before. But I'm noticing people who are pregnant more often now as well, all around me, on tv, they're everywhere!

@HJen22 I thought so too last month just before AF and it was only our first month trying. We only used condoms before so I assumed it would be simple haha

@Peach1204 I'm always really impressed that your OHs are willing to do all these things so early on. Mine is still stubbornly sticking to doing things the same way as always and just letting things happen naturally. I'm too impatient for that!

M4v3r1ck · 22/05/2020 18:45

Hey ladies,

So much to catch up on! 😃 I'm terrible at remember who said what, but...

Welcome to the newcomers! 😃

Sorry to hear about the tough experiences some of you have had - sending lots of love and positive thoughts your way! 😘

I'm so glad I've found these groups! Even though I know I could talk to my friends/family about starting this, you just worry how it's all going to go, how long it will take, etc... so I really appreciate you ladies being here and sharing your advice and experience! 😍

Laughing at some of the symptoms... I must be permanently pregnant as I'm always hungry and needing to pee! 🙈😂

Coil removal today was so straightforward and easy - yay! So having a chippy and some Netflix! 😈 It might be different here in Scotland, but the doc said today that for over 35 yrs to flag if no luck after the 6-month mark and then they can start investigations, eg. Sperm count etc. However, they fully expect some couples to take 1-2 years. Also, yes to DTD every 2-3 days regardless of ovulation, but that increases the chances. She confirmed the main pills are folic acid and vitamin D! And to maintain good health and weight!

Sorry for the long post! 🙊

SaraVB · 22/05/2020 18:45

@HJen22 my mums been asking and dropping hints for years.. she's going to be shocked beyond belief cos I've always let on that I didn't really want kids
