Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@M4v3r1ck oh glad it went well for you and thanks for all the useful info! I've been taking some preconception multivitamins but I think I'll switch to folic acid and vitamin D too.

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 18:53

@HJen22 yeah totally different ball game isn't it haha. Well here's to a relatively painless AF and then onto baby making time! Did you do anything to track last month or just doing it all naturally?

M4v3r1ck · 22/05/2020 18:54

You're welcome! Happy pill popping! 😜😂

Daffodil21 · 22/05/2020 18:57

@Rocky89 I'm ovulating today (or around today), so just about to enter the dreaded TWW. Going to try not to obsess about it, so we'll see how that goes! I saw below that you're 10dpo with some promising signs! Will you test early? Sorry if you've answered that question in a different post.

@M4v3r1ck I am also in Scotland, hello ☺️

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 19:02

@SaraVB my sister was the same, as soon as she had kids she was on to me! She took some time to fall pregnant first time, then second very quick!! Told her to back off haha seems people always ask me but I'd never ask anyone!

@Rocky89 thank you! Where are you in your cycle did you say sorry? I tracked when my April withdrawal was with the P.C app, which then showed expected ovulation and May period. I only really got it as I thought my periods might be a bit all over the place. Hard not to get a bit keen on looking at when it's high chance for getting pregnant though haha 😂

M4v3r1ck · 22/05/2020 19:05

@Daffodil21 hey there fellow Scot! 😃😃😃

Do the rest of ladies have a nice Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy?! I think I'll be downloading every tracker and app under the sun! 😜😂

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 19:05

@Daffodil21 fingers crossed those little spermys have met your egg!! I wish you the best of luck for the next two weeks! We're here to get you through it!! Yeah 10dpo, trying not to think about it, but it seems to be whenever I'm not physically doing something my mind turns straight to it! I'm going to try my best not to, it seems some people don't get positives until nearly a week after their period is due, but il likely cave next week :/
It's tricky battling the thoughts though because you try to stay positive and then I remind myself it would be a miracle to catch first time trying, so trying not to get my hopes up! AF due Thursday so we'll see!

Rocky89 · 22/05/2020 19:11

@HJen22 definitely! I think that's why my hopes are up because of all the talk of coming of minipill, but equally don't want my hopes up! Here's hoping this thread is a lucky one for of us!

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 19:12

@M4v3r1ck @Daffodil21 I'm also a fellow Scot 👋🏻

Poppyismyfavourite · 22/05/2020 19:14

I really want to tell people we're trying but it feels like tempting fate... Also if it takes a while I think the pity would make it worse!

On a lighter note, DH just clocked yesterday that I now can't drink for 3 weeks each month! His face was hilarious.

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 19:15

@Rocky89 just read your below post re where you're at! I felt like the 2 weeks before AF were the slowest. Wishing you luck!!

I know - I didn't really have any intention of tracking ovulation really (not sure my OH believes me haha) until the period tracker showed me when it was best chance! Although I didn't even really know I was ovulating as I wasn't sure the last period was even a proper one! All very confusing stuff!

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 19:16

@SaraVB I'm saying about me doing extra things in case there it is a struggle and it's my fault and he jumped in straightaway and said what if its me? There might not be any issues but trying to increase the chances. Fingers crossed we are both getting the BFPs soon. Xxx

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 19:19

@M4v3r1ck does it always have to be the woman who is 35? Is that a stupid question?! Just thinking my OH is older and it's not necessarily the girl that has the problem. Xxx

Daffodil21 · 22/05/2020 19:53

Thank you @Rocky89 ! Yes going to try and keep occupied in the meantime (we've got lots of decorating to do atm so I'm going to throw myself into that! I bet you're glad your TWW is nearly over, although I always find the closer you get the harder it is!

@M4v3r1ck @HJen22 I have to confess I am not actually a Scot 🙈 but nice to 'meet' you both! I recently moved here from way down south! It's beautiful - I love it. I didn't even realise the bank holiday's were different here until it was Good Friday and it wasn't a bank hol haha

Vil10 · 22/05/2020 20:05

@Rocky89 @HJen22 @SaraVB Thankyou I don’t feel as bad now! I suppose it’s a normal emotion when it’s something you want! Typical the OH has been called out to work just now on the day I got my peak on an opk😒 we’ve been DTD every other day since the 14th and last night as well and they do say sometimes it’s best DTD the day before ovulation as sometimes doing it on the day you’ve missed it, but still frustrating!

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 20:06

@Peach1204 it does have to be the woman that's 35 + before they'll start fertility tests! I tried to start them early at 9 months as I'm 34 but my drs wouldn't budge! My friend was able to get bloods done at 9 months of trying and fell pregnant before the results were bk lol!

HJen22 · 22/05/2020 20:26

@Daffodil21 haha well welcome to Scotland! I hope you can see some more of the beautiful surroundings now things are easing up!

@Vil10 totally normal emotion! Hopefully as you've been DTD every other day you'll have caught the right time! Does everyone recommend opks? Just had to google that 🙈 wow there is so much to learn!

The last week I found myself thinking of nothing but pregnancy and babies. I was trying to tell myself I couldnt be pregnant so I wasn't gutted, but then knew I'd be disappointed when AF came! Working from home and with no one there to catch your googling, it's easy to go down a baby/conception/pregnancy rabbit hole of articles 😂

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 20:36

@notyetamumbuttrying ahhh guess that makes sense as we are the ticking time bombs when it comes to baby making. Guess they have to have limits somewhere else everyone would want testing ASAP. I even looked at private testing when we first discussed me coming off the pill just to know sooner rather than later but it's pricey. Thought better to try first and stop being such a Debbie downer! Xxx

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 21:04

I was gonna look into private too tbh @Peach1204. Can I ask what the prices were coming in at? I know it can vary depending on where in the country you are. I'm London so I'm guessing it'll be extortionate lol!

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 21:09

@notyetamumbuttrying it was £450 for a couples test. That was for a scan, sperm test, height, weight and bmi (although that's an easy thing so wouldn't want to pay someone for that!) and to discuss previous medical history. Xxx

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 21:25

Thanks @Peach1204 eek yeah there is quite pricey, good to know what I'm looking at though if we can't wait 3 more months!

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 21:37

@notyetamumbuttrying it is for what it is I feel. If we didn't have the NHS I probably would have done so feel so lucky to have such a good health service. I'm sure there are cheaper places who would just do the scan and sperm test. Hopefully everything is ticketyboo so we don't need them. Xxx

notyetamumbuttrying · 22/05/2020 21:42

Here's hoping! @Peach1204 can't help but wonder when it hasn't worked so far, but l know it takes time for some (most I think but you always hear about the ones that caught first time)!

Peach1204 · 22/05/2020 21:56

@notyetamumbuttrying yeah they do take time for a lot of us. First timers are lucky! Xxx

Summertime1992 · 22/05/2020 22:12

Hi can I join, Im 27 my Partner 30 and this will be our first child.

First month trying ( was using condoms as had my implant out last year, awful side effects, most hormones just do not agree with me).

We have planned to start this spring as wanted to avoid a Christmas baby and was a little worried about Covid-19 so held off while I read the research on it.

Now we feel ready so this will be our first month (currently on day 2 of usual 4 day period).

I have been taking pregnancare for a couple of month, I have conceive plus lube, and have been tracking my period on flo for the last 12 month which apart from last month is always 26 days.

How many of you have found Flos ovulation days accurate ? as was just going to use that as an around about idea of ovulation and Cervical mucus.
