Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

Absolutely gutted! So after 7 months of trying I finally got a faint positive on Sunday, followed by two more faint positives (with a different brand) Monday and Tuesday. Tested again this morning and it was negative! 😭 I'm on cycle day 41 and still no AF. I honestly don't know what to do. Should I contact the doctors?
I tried posting this with pictures, but, as my account is new, it still won't allow me to post images.

AlisonLew15 · 11/06/2020 08:09

So I caved and tested this morning at 15dpo, as I wiped I had a tiny mark of spotting on the tissue. So pissed off. Suppose just waiting for AF to fully arrive now. Did a test anyway and is of course negative.

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 08:29

@Bam27 I'm sorry to say this but it could have been a chemical? Yes, I would give your gps call. If it is a chemical then it should be logged on your records

@AlisonLew15 oh no, so sorry. Hope you're ok x

Bam27 · 11/06/2020 08:49

@AlisonLew15 sorry to hear about AF it's always so disappointing when she turns up 😔
@Daffodil21 thanks for replying. Yes that is what I'm thinking 😭 strange that AF still hasn't arrived. GP is going to ring me later this morning.

It let me post the images, those are the ones from earlier this week. This is from this morning

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 08:58

@Bam27 the last one you posted doesn't look negative to me..?

The other ones don't seem to have much colour though, which could indicate evaps, but it would be unusual to get that many faulty tests? How horrible for you to be so unsure

Bam27 · 11/06/2020 09:14

@Daffodil21 the ones from earlier this week definitely looked more pink in person and the lines came up with the time frame. Its also two different brands of test and there was a fourth one (toon two tests in one day) not included in the picture.
The test I took this morning does have a line but it is so faint I'm surprised the camera picked it up and I can't tell if it has any colour to it.
I'm so confused!
Thank you so much for taking the time to look and talk to me. It really is so helpful just being able to share how I'm feeling ❤️

Hi ladies,

I hope you don't mind me posting on here but I was reading through the thread and hoped I could offer a tiny bit of advice that may help as I know how frustrating ttc can be!

I'm not currently TTC (late pregnant) but was trying for 14 months. Two months before I fell pregnant I started taking COQ10, and eating Brazil nuts, was pregnant 2 months later, the month I was being seen by a fertility specialist. I'm not sure if either of those worked, but definitely worth a try! 🤞🏼 to all of you and I hope you all get the news you deserve soon 💖💖

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 09:45

@Bam27 how many dpo are you? I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but I don't think you'll get a definite answer for a week or so, until either AF arrives, or until you get a stronger positive.

Thanks @impatient2bmummy. How many Brazil nuts did you eat per day? I'm only eating eating one-two per day atm - is that enough?

I've also read very good things about Maca. It's the root of a plant from Peru, but it comes in powder form too. I've got some arriving in the post today (as well as some wheat germ for a COQ10 boost - nowhere near as much a supplement though!) - thought it can't hurt to add to my morning oats! I think it had quite an earthy flavour so it's easy to add to things.

This may be our last month of actively TTC, so pulling out all the stops.

Just on COQ10 - if you do fall pregnant I think you're supposed to stop taking it

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 09:45

Also - congratulations @impatient2bmummy !!

impatient2bmummy · 11/06/2020 09:53

@daffodil21 I think I was only having 2-3 a day too as I couldn't stomach more (really didn't enjoy them 😂) so I think you're doing great.

And yes with COQ10 you should stop as soon as you find out you're pregnant!

Thank you, it's a lovely feeling, can't wait to hold my baby (I hope soon!!!) and for all you lovely ladies to have the same experience 💖

CEW19 · 11/06/2020 10:13

@daffodil21 @impatient2bmummy Do you eat the brazil nuts throughout the month? last month i just ate a couple each day during TWW. I've ordered some raspberry leaf tea this month as it's supposed to boost fertility, but only between CD1 and ovulation i think. And drinking lots of grapefruit juice! DH and I are both taking Boots pre conception vits.

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 10:21

@CEW19 I do eat them throughout because I read that a daily dose of selenium is good when TTC, and Brazil nuts are very high in selenium (plus I actually like them!) But I think you can just eat them from the day of ovulation (although what do I know?!)

Bam27 · 11/06/2020 11:23

@Daffodil21 I don't know when I ovulated as I don't track it. I am on cycle day 41 though, so I think I definitely ovulated late. If I was pregnant and ovulated when I should I would have BFP by now but if not I should have had AF arrive, so either way my ovulation must have been way off normal.

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 13:11

So sorry this must be such a head wreck for you. Maybe give it another week and see if there is any change and contact your go for their advice as well . Good luck x

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 13:21

Ah sorry to hear that, it's the worst ! It's such a relentless cycle

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 13:26

I've ordered some COQ10 from Holland and Barret and also the pregnacare fertility tablets. Part of me thinks the pregnacare tablets are just the same as the regular vitamin tablets and it's just a money making strategy but I'm trying to be positive and believe it will make a difference 😂 it can't do any harm.

Just waiting for aunt Flow to go away and we can get started again, I haven't really been tracking my ovulation to be honest , we just did the deed every second day and then it made me think maybe I don't ovulate and that's the problem.

I remember a work colleague mentioning once she can feel when she ovulates, I do notice a change in mucus but that's about it so I'm going to pick up some ovulation strips.

I feel like there is so much involved in this process than I ever realized!

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 13:42

@TerryRose be careful with pregnecare - they can delay ovulation and lengthen some women's cycles

Dreaming101 · 11/06/2020 14:09

I second @Daffodil21 be careful with pregnancare!
I’m now taking the pregnaplan vitamins by cytoplan as they are all natural!

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 14:16

@daffodil21 oh my goodness I had no idea, thank you for saying that, I feel like that's something they should warn about ?! It's a minefield

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 14:18

@dreaming101 thanks for th head up, I didn't even think about vitamins having a negative impact on ttc , wow. I must look up the ones you are taking so and see if I can get them in Ireland . Thanks

TerryRose · 11/06/2020 14:29

Has anyone here tried or heard of the
Ferti Lily Conception Cup ? I'm just on Boots looking at ovulation sticks and it has come up, I've never heard of it but looking at the reviews and a few people saying it helped them get pregnant and I can't help but wonder, it's pricey but it there's a chance ...

SK2970 · 11/06/2020 16:09

Hi, not posted for a few days but been silently reading! Hope everyone is ok despite lots of ups and downs!

Definitely felt some pains today that took my breath away so hoping it's ovulation! DTD every other day so fingers crossed!

How have people coped with cutting out/ down on caffeine? I usually have 2/3 cups of coffee a day, I have switched to decaff and have the worst dull headache for the past two days! Does it go away?!

AlisonLew15 · 11/06/2020 19:05

Hi everyone. So after this mornings slight spotting AF is here in full flow this afternoon. CD1 we meet again. Any tips for trying something new this month? I'll be trying out the CB digital OPKs for the second month and continuing with the Seven Seas tablets. DH has said he will try to DTD more this month.

Found out that I'm going to be an Aunty to another little nephew in October. Some happy news!

Daffodil21 · 11/06/2020 19:30

@AlisonLew15 so sorry it's not the news you wanted. Have you heard of SMEP? It's where you dtd every other day up until you get a static smiley on CB, then you DDT's 3 days in a row, miss a day, and then dtd again one more time for good measure. Might be worth a try?

Lovely news that you'll be an aunty, but I hope you don't find that news too hard to hear as well (obviously you're happy for your bro/sis, but let's be honest, it's always hard to hear news like that when you're TTC)
