Hi Tiger-good luck with your scan you doing ok?

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 10:50

Hi lovey
I'm doing pretty well ta. Will let you know later how it all goes.
Hope you are doing OK too.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 14:26

Well, been scanned and guess what ... it didn't work - the clomifene that is, not the scan.
My ovaries are just as polycystic as they were before. The "infertility specialist nurse" that I'm seeing actually seemed chuffed that it is so obvious - she said that she'll use my scan for teaching as it is so clear!

So, now I have to wait until cd35 and, if I haven't had a period, ring for another course of progesterone and start again. She said that she is reluctant to up the dose after just one go as she has seen cases in the past where someone doesn't respond at all to the first course but does to the second ... we'll see. At least she has said that if the second course doesn't work she'll up the dose next time, so I guess that's something.

Feeling rotten tho. If the drugs had worked and I just hadn't got pg then I think I could have accepted that. This way feels like my body is even more crap than they thought! Sorry - mustn't go on, I know that there are lots of people in much worse situations but it is getting me down today.

Hope everyone else is feeling a little more positive

nomoremagnolia · 21/08/2007 14:33

tigerschick sorry it didn't work Hang in there though, it sounds like your nurse is nice and she'll sort you out one way or the other.

Kerri1983 · 21/08/2007 14:34

Hi all, I am new to this but have been reading your threads and found them very useful. I have taken my first course of 50mg clomid however, I am now on CD33 with no sign of a period. I have PCOS and don't have periods without medication. Is it normal to not have a period after clomid??

Any advice would be much appreciated. x

scorpio1 · 21/08/2007 14:34

tiger- what a shit. so sorry .

flosspot · 21/08/2007 14:42

Kerri- Clomid did nothing to change my 40+ day cycles...if in doubt though, call your GP. If it is your first course, it might just be that you are adjusting....

tigerschick-sorry it didn't work this time. stick with it. You sound like you have a good nurse, which is better than a lot of us!!!

Hello all- nada to report....

Oh., and welcome to anyone I might have missed.

Thanks flosspot - I have an appointment with my consultant on Friday, I will ask then.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 14:47

Kerri - I have PCO - not sure about the S bit - and this course of clomid hasn't worked which means I won't ovulate so I won't have a natural period, or it is very unlikely that I will. Were you scanned on cd13/14? If not, it is possible that the same has happened to you - sadly. If you were scanned and you did ov then I would go back to who ever is treating you and ask them. Things differ so much area to area but you are entitled to know what is going on.
HTH
Thanks for the replies folks. Feels a bit better to have ranted on here.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 14:48

X-posts Kerri - good luck for Friday

Kerri1983 · 21/08/2007 14:51

No I didn't have a scan so I don't know what is going on.
What is the next step to you taking your 2nd course of clomid if you have no period, do you take other medication to give it a kick start?

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 14:56

Yes. I took 7 days of Provera which is progesterone and that kick starts your cycle. Did you take something like that or did you just take the clomid? I have heard of both happening. So I have to wait to see if I have a period - not likely - and, if not, take another course of the Provera then clomifene (which is basically the same as clomid) on cd2-6 and fingers crossed for next month.

I don't understand why they didn't scan you. I was told it was for 2 reasons - firstly, so that they could see if it had worked, and secondly, to make sure it hadn't worked too well and released loads of eggs. I would have thought that it makes sense to scan everyone for these reasons, but, like I say, it varies massively from area to area.

Kerri1983 · 21/08/2007 14:59

I will ask about the sacn when I go on Friday and will let you know.

I didn't take provera I took Norethisterone which is basically the same thing and then Clomid on days 2-6 the same as you have.

Kerri1983 · 21/08/2007 15:04

I did have a 21 day blood test and will find out the results to that on Friday.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 15:04

I would definately ask about the scan - like I say, I can't understand why they don't scan everyone. If it isn't working, the scan seems to be the best way of telling, and if it's working too well, you know that you're at risk of sextuplets in time to decide if you want them!

Incidentally - do you know the difference between PCO and PCOS? I've never been told which I have and I'm not even sure that there is a difference or if it's just terminology. Ta.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 15:05

Ah - of course, that would tell if you ov or not.

Kerri1983 · 21/08/2007 15:06

I am not sure of the difference either however the "S" stands for syndrome. Not sure if there is actually a difference.

tigerschick · 21/08/2007 15:20

Just read this and it suggests that there isn't a difference. Just terminology then.

nomoremagnolia · 21/08/2007 15:41

I'm not being scanned - had a day 21 blood test (at GP's) on first cycle which showed I ov'd and have now been told to carry on taking the next 5 months' worth and go back if I'm not pg by Feb 08. Nobody's said anything about monitoring, doc did say chance of mulitple pg is 10% higher than normal and that I might feel 'menopausal symptoms' but that was all. Seems treatment/monitoring varies quite a bit.. I'm on NHS in Swindon PCT if it makes any difference?

flosspot · 21/08/2007 16:28

Have same thing as you nomore....no monitoring at all. It's very lonely.....

OP posts:
tigerschick · 21/08/2007 16:59

I don't know if they would continue to monitor me if the clomifene had worked this time. I think they would simply have told me to carry on. The fact that I haven't oved means they will continue to monitor me a bit longer. There was another lady waiting to see the same specialist as me, I saw her notes (not close up of course) and where I had 1 row of boxes filled in, indicating 1 scan, she had at least 5 or 6. So I feel a bit bad complaining.
I'm in Leicestershire, but when I went for my first meeting with the specialist she said that my gp had done a lot more than a lot of gps bother to do - ie he had sorted my diagnostic scan and blood tests. So it varies gp to gp, specialist to specialist and area to area - what chance do we stand really!?!

nomoremagnolia · 21/08/2007 18:31

I do wonder where we are on the lottery of NHS - we were seen by specialist really quickly, but no I feel we've just been cast adrift with just the Clomid for 6 months. Hopefully it'll work fine and I won't need to go back, but I can't help wondering what kind of service we might receive if we do...

nomoremagnolia · 21/08/2007 18:31

now

flosspot · 22/08/2007 10:33

with you there nomore. Frustrating and worrying, neither of which help on the whole ttc front!

OP posts:
lulu1414 · 23/08/2007 12:48

Nomore- it is frustrating. After my first scan they just sent me off for 6 months. I wanted to see the doctor just to touch base and talk about some of my concerns so I did after 3 months. He was fine with that and was helpful, but I think it the first scan is OK and they see that you are Oving then there is no real reason to keep poking and prodding at you. But am I right in thinking you didn't even have the first scan?? They really should have done that, I think.

hope everyone else is OK. Floss- where are you at now? I'm at CD18...
