(nomoremagnolia here with a HP name)

hi ladies - can I ask you how well monitored you are on clomid? I have been given 6 months supply with no monitoring (as far as I'm aware), but have read that you should be monitored? I have to go to GP for a day 21 blood test in first cycle with clomid to show ov, but apart from that I've not been told anything else. I have been given the number for the women's health nurses if I want to ask anything but should I be worried about the lack of doctor (either gynae or GP) monitoring? Getting myself all worried about it now!

wizzywig · 16/07/2007 16:15

hi padfoot, when i first went on clomid for my first baby i had a consulatation with my gynae after two months but no scans (this was a private gynae). at first i was given 50mg dose of clomid. then bupa stopped covering me for treatment so after three months in total with my private gynae i went on the nhs. my nhs gynae upped the dose to 100mg and i was given follicular tracking after two months on clomid and i got pregnant that month.

when i next go on clomid (im waiting for my first appt with my gynae to come through the post) im definately going to make sure i go through follicular tracking. im so lucky becuase i saw my son literally when he was first conceived becuase i was having daily internal scans from day 12 for two weeks and the nurses told me to write that month off becuase my follicles werent getting smaller to indicate that i had ovulated but that was becuase i was pregnant.

BUTTERCUP: my london private gynae charged 180 a consulation and that never lasted more than 15ninsw. thank god bupa paid for the consulations. i cant remember how much scans were but they were expensive.

flosspot · 23/07/2007 09:39

Not really monitored at all at the moment.....Attila would be appalled.

Hi, can I join.

It took me 4 years and about 10 cycles of 100mg Clomid to get pregnant. I lost that baby at 13 weeks. A year later and another 6 months of 150mg Clomid plus one cycle of IUI and I conceived DS, now 1. We're starting to feel like it's time to try for another baby (are we nuts? this one still isn't sleeping through...) so not on Clomid yet, but expect I will be soon. I never had much in the way of side-effects, maybe a few hot flushes at night. But this time I'm stil breastfeeding so worried that will conflict with Clomid. If I can't do both I don't know what I'll do - DS really not ready to stop bfing (nor me). Anyway, will cross that bridge when I come to it. But I'm another Clomid success story, although I did need IUI as well the second time.

RavenclAwen · 23/07/2007 23:43

flosspot · 25/07/2007 17:30

Awen- hello- glad to hear you are well. Hope the summer goes OK for you and beanie.

All- hope you are well, and making what fun you can from the sucky weather. Told DH was seriously considering IVF last night as he has been away for nearly six weeks. I suck at not being pregnant!

Hi ladies

Started taking Provera this morning so, the ball is truely rolling and I'm getting excited - but still trying to keep myself under control

Hope everyone is OK and keeping positive.

babytalk · 30/07/2007 12:26

Hi, I am new to this site. I am on my first round of taking clomid, I have been taking it for 4 days now, I am on 50mg, I have had no side effects. is this usual or have I all this to come to me?

I came off the pill a year ago and since my periods have been irregular and all over the place, longest cycle has 57 days!!! Have had blood tests done, I am ovulating, why no babies? my last cylce was 32days!

Have a pelvic scan in 10 days time, nervous as I don;t know what happens, can anyone help?

No-one I know has had any problems and all my mates are either pregnant or mothers! Hard to talk to them about it!

It would be good to hear from you!

(blush)

buttercupbabe · 30/07/2007 12:53

Hi babytalk. I'm on my 2nd cycle of clomid also 50mg. I've noticed that on the days I take the tablets I don't sleep very well - but that's the only side effect I've noticed. I had a scan last cycle. It's to basically check that you are producing follicles (and not too many). Mine was an internal scan - but I don't think everywhere neccesarily does internal ones. Good luck!

tigerschick · 30/07/2007 14:43

Hi babytalk - I'm about to start my first cycle of Clomid - just started the Provera bit today as I don't have periods, well, I do but very infrequently. I hope that I don't have any side-effects either, a friend turned into a screaming banshee when she was on CLomid - to the point where they have decided that, now they have a ds, they aren't going down that route again.

I also had an internal scan when I was being diagnosed. I found it to be more physically uncomfortable than a smear as the probe is quite big and they move it about a bit, but it was less embarassing somehow because, once the probe is in, the sonographer is looking at the screen - not up your wotsit!

Good luck with the scan and the Clomid

flosspot · 30/07/2007 15:37

Hello all- hurrah, I am back inthe game! Sad to say I was actually happy when af arrived (when I was on an emergency job and had nothing with me....) last week as it means I can get back with Clomid and BDing. Have been in a lull since mc just waiting to start again, but seven weeks later....thunderbirds are go (more like thunderthighs!)

RE: side effects- if you don't have any, you are bloody lucky. I am satanic and weepy. Perfect for visiting MIL this weekend!!!

Role call please:

Hello everyone, thought I would bump. Anyone out there and still ttc whilst not going mad on drugs?????

OP posts:
minxi · 03/08/2007 10:47

Hi girls, I didn't take clomid this month as I was away from dh from cd8 to cd14 managed to bd cd7 and 15 but af due around 11 August so will start af then back to cycle 5 of clomid for me ( on holiday day af due for 3 weeks so should manage plenty of relaxing bd pre ov during ov and after ov- so if that doesn't work who knows!!- quite tempted to douuble this dose just because but bit scared just to do it....)...

Have appointment with consultant on 5th September and I think he was hoping that he wouldn't have to see me again as cycles got back to normal...

must dash - hope all is well with you all and hopefully clomid not making you too crazy!!

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 07:51

Can I ask a daft question, one that I probably should have asked the specialist?
Once you've started taking Clomid, about how long does it take before you ovulate? Just thought that I haven't got a clue how long I will need to wait.
TIA

flosspot · 06/08/2007 10:42

Good question- doc gave me Clomid and a little drawing showing cycle- ovulate day 14, af day 28, so I assumed that's what it would be like. Soooo not the case. Still on 40 day cycles, no ew, no luck with OPK...they think I'm not ovulating, so probably not the best person to ask......

Hi all- well, I'm back. I was trying not to obsess this month so told myself I would try to stay off MN a bit more. Also have had non-stop visitors. I did not take the clomid this month and felt really good about it. I ovd (I think) on CD22, so a bit later than with the clomid. I got a very tiny bit of pink blood about 12 days later which at first I thought was AF but then went away. So I thought maybe I was pregnant. Was a bit upset when a tiny bit of spotting started on Sunday. But then AF came full force last night. So upset. I thought I may have been lucky this time. So I think I am going to go back on the clomid tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing Ok. We definitely need some luck on this thread!

Tiger- my doc told me 5-9 days after the last pill you should expect to ovulate. I am pretty sure that this is spot on for me.

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 12:00

Thanks flosspot and lulu I just hope I stop bleeding before I ov (sorry - TMI)
Sorry your period showed up lulu - good luck for this time round

boozle · 06/08/2007 12:46

Hi, can I join you?

I have unexplained infertility and am TTC#2. I already have a DD aged nearly 2. She was conceived (after 31 tries) in the first "drug-free" month following two months' of Chlomid treatment, a month's break and then three months' of treatment with Puregon (hmm, I am not sure if Puregon is used in the UK (I live in Germany). It pretty much does the same job as Chlomid, but is an injection rather than a tablet. I was given it instead of Chlomid as Chlomid dried up my cervical mucus (and also made me into the world's nastiest, angriest person ....!)).

I am now about 18 cycles into trying for #2. Like whizzywig I had hoped I would be one of the lucky ones the second time around, but it's not to be. Anyway, I have just completed three cycles of Chlomid (50mg for five days, causing exactly the same problems again) and am now due to move to Puregon. That said, it's likely that I will have to give this month a miss as, depending on when AF arrives in the next few days (and she will, I have no doubt!!), I will likely be away from my DH at the critical time.

Good luck to us all!

flosspot · 06/08/2007 15:45

Boozle- join away. Would say the more the merrier, but in this instance, the fewer the better. Sorry to hear about yourfertility. It's a nightmare however long it takes, but I have to say that you give me hope, since havig DD is one better than me!! Stick with us, hopefully not for long!

Lulu- so sorry. Why is it always so upsetting?? Have been thinking of you whilst you have been away- you were such a great support when I first joined this thread. Sending as many positive thouhts as I can your way.

To all others- minxi, coggy- hope you are both well and still fighting the good fight

Awen and PCM, pop by and say hello. Hope things are well with you two fat ladies...

All others, happy Monday. One less day till the weekend!

Apologies for fat fingers

hi there, thought I would ask you kind ladies some advice about Clomid. How long were you TTC before being prescribed it? I had a mc in March and have only had one proper period since then. I am on CD62 now! I never had regular cycles when I was younger (before going on pill) and even when I got PG the cycle was nine weeks! But as it is only five months since my mc what are the chances of my GP prescribing it for me to regulate my periods?

And how much does it cost to go private?

Yes I am a mad crazy TTC woman (reading your threads has made me smile as I see myself)

tigerschick · 07/08/2007 08:13

Hi nh101 Sorry about your m/c.

I have a dd already so I think that sped up my diagnosis. I've been ttc since January, I went to the gp at the beginning of April and was proscribed Clomid mid-July. I think that this was rather quick - I have PCOS which was relatively easy to diagnose.

Can't help with the cost of going private. I was very impressed with the speed treatment I received - I hope it continues like this - but I know it varies massively from pct to pct.
Good luck - hope you get another bfp soon

flosspot · 07/08/2007 10:28

nh101- hello. Are you defecting????

CAn't help with cost of going private, but would certainly speak to doctor about regulating cycles...when I was first put on Clomid in Feb, was given a drug to bring about cycle (didn't know how long I would wait otherwise as longest cycle 122 days) then thought that Clomid would do the rest. Cycles still at 40 days, but has been talk of upping dosage to shorten/regulate cycles, so who knows.

I would speak to your doc- if you don't ask, you don't get....

humpydumpy · 07/08/2007 10:51

Hi there, I just wanted to ask a quick question. I took clomid 50mg earlier this year and ov around cd14 (I did get pg but had mc), I am now back on it on a 25mg dose. Last month I ov on cd18 and was wondering if the difference in the days I ov was due to the change in doses of clomid or if anyone else found their ov days changed each month. The whole womens cycle thing is a complete mystery to me, having never had regular af.

lulu1414 · 07/08/2007 11:28

Nh101- sounds like we are slightly similar. I had miscarriage in Oct at 13 wks after only trying for one month. After the miscarriage I didn't get AF for 6 months. I would put on clomid as a result. As for private- I ended up going private as was so unhappy with my treatment on the NHS. Luckily, after the fact, we found out my DH new job meant we could have it covered. But NOT if it had anything to do with fertility, so the doc has been great and pointed out this was to try to sort out PCOS and not necessarily fertility. It cost 150 or so pounds a consultation and about the same for a scan. But you can go private and then revert back to NHS.

So onwards and upwards all. I will start on the clomid this eve. So this will be my 5th clomid cycle and one month off.
