New Year, new thread! 🍾πŸ₯‚

Basically: a wonderful bunch of ladies supporting each other through the TTC journey when trying for a first baby after 35.

Here's hoping 2019 brings some BFP luck to us all!! πŸ€πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ€πŸ€žπŸ»

So true @BambiOnIce80! Im also just bored of social media generally - such an unnecessary time dump. Trying to de-digitise, although I guess I just joined this digital forum lol. It's great to have some support through stressful times though.

79andnotout · 02/01/2019 18:26

I've also quit Facebook because I'm being stalked by one of the old men at my allotment! He's thoroughly nice in the flesh and I enjoy the chats but he's getting far too flirty and pest like with the frequency of his messages. He's in his sixties and married (happily I thought) and knows I have an OH (as I make him come up and do some digging when I can bully him into it). I got a message with lots of kisses on the dot of midnight on NYE. Intense!

Welcome @umpteennamechanges and @Weathergirl1 !

Clare19821 · 02/01/2019 18:48

That's truly disturbing @79andnotout !!

QuantumGirl · 02/01/2019 19:27

@79andnotout that is so creepy 😳. I put an old fence on freecycle the other day and an allotment guy came to pick it up and in return he gave me two butternut squashes from his allotment. I was quite touched, felt like old Victorian times when everything was based on exchanges.
I also rarely use Facebook but today I am proud to announce I cancelled my 'hayu' Β£3.99 subscription, so no more real housewives of the OC πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

79andnotout · 02/01/2019 21:00

Ha well done @QuantumGirl ! Yeah the bartering system is great! Comes in mighty useful.

@BambiOnIce80 what diet is that? Is it just a general healthy Mediterranean type diet? You're better than my OH, I ask him not to bring home junk food when I'm trying to lose weight and he always comes home armed with biscuits. That he leaves in his rucksack but the dog finds them and brings them to me. They are in cahoots to keep my ass fat.

Kescilly · 02/01/2019 21:00

Another one here that finds that very creepy!

If I’m being totally honest, I deleted my Facebook account ages ago because of the baby pics. I have other issues with Facebook but seeing all the babies really made me miserable. My first husband changed his mind about having kids and all I could think was that everyone was finding someone to have kids with but no one wanted to have kids with me. Then we got divorced and it was even worse.

I’m pregnant now but don’t want to go back on, I don’t think it’s good for my mental health. I do enjoy Instagram however.

A big welcome to our newbies! This thread was probably the first bright spot for me in the midst of all the TTC/baby angst.

@BambiOnIce80 and anyone else looking for healthy recipes, I love Skinnytaste.com. It’s an American site but it’s the first place I found healthy recipes that I truly enjoyed eating. I highly recommend taking a look!

@Carley32 I’m loving the name changes and happy to see you here in any form!

Kescilly · 02/01/2019 21:01

@79andnotout I’ve just informed my husband that he needs to bundle up all the leftover sweets and take them to work. I am home all day and simply don’t have enough self-control!

BambiOnIce80 · 02/01/2019 22:02

Awwww, @Kescilly you made me tear-up with those lovely words about this thread being a bright spot ☺️ I'm not usually much of a soppy cow, so I think my progesterone must be on the up too! πŸ˜„ And thank you for the website recommendation - I'm going to give it a look ❀️ I've got a few American cook books, but I get really confused with the cups and the different types of cream (eg. Heavy and light) and flour (all purpose??)... might need to call on you for some help in translating, if that's OK?x

Oh wow @79andnotout - that is truly all kinds of creepy and a bloody good reason to quit Facebook! 😲 The diet DP is starting next weekend is a 12 week programme run by the NHS (yep, he's really piled the weight on since we've been together and I love him for seeking proper help to sort it), but he's trying to prep for the shock to his system to come by dieting the Italian way (cutting out meat and eating veggies instead). Whilst I'm going to be full on supportive, I've really taken one for the team over the last 2 evenings... I've troughed the last 2 tubs of Ben and Jerry's to remove the temptation for him πŸ¨πŸ˜‹πŸ˜¬

All power to you for your sacrifice @QuantumGirl πŸ™ŒπŸ˜‚ If you're after some free trash, may I recommend both the Australian '7 year switch' and the American 'Married at first sight' on 4OD?! I find they satisfy my dirty little secret for car crash TV, anyway 😬

Yikes @79andnotout - allotment guy sounds freaky 😳

I’ve not quit Facebook (despite all the baby bombing and β€˜perfect lives’ though it’s tempting!), but I’m trying to limit my screen time as I spend way too much time on social media. Should really reduce my time on mumsnet too, but I can’t help myself. @kescilly is right - this thread is fab and a lovely source of support Smile

I like your altruistic removal of Ben & Jerry’s @BambiOnIce Grin I’d like to incorporate more veggie meals and actually start meal planning to save buying things we don’t need. I really like pinchofnom and slimmingeats for recipe ideas.

Hi @umpteennamechanges and @weathergirl1 Good luck with ttc!

PixieN · 02/01/2019 23:09

@kescilly - not heard of skinnytaste.com, but sounds good πŸ‘

Kescilly · 03/01/2019 02:00

@BambiOnIce80 it’s true! You ladies are wonderful. And I’m happy to translate recipes when necessary! Plain flour is fine for all-purpose. If you do a lot of baking, I highly recommend getting some American measuring cups. It’s so hard to convert recipes otherwise.

I’m going a bit mad with houseguests. We had people staying over for NYE, we have houseguests this weekend, then my mom staying with us next week. And some in-laws the weekend after! Originally the friends were supposed to be here in December and my mom in February, but it’s all ended up this month instead.

I’ve also got an appointment for my visa application on Friday and my 20 week scan next week so I’m slightly stressed about that.

Carley32 · 03/01/2019 09:32

πŸ˜‚ @BambiOnIce80 the name will probably return to the new one after I get logged out again πŸ˜‚. Thank you 😊

@79andnotout that does sound a little concerning... very freaky. Hopefully he will take the hint! Do you see him often up there?

@Kescilly thank you 😊 nothing seems to go right when it comes who technically with me!
Good luck with the visits and your visa appointment 🀞

I am still on Facebook but have decided to spend less time on my phone ao that’s one thing which will be lessened. My googling absolutely everything to do with ttc, babies, symptoms and health concerns is also out of control so will need to be almost banned completely I think πŸ€”.

Welcome and hello new friends x

PheobeBuffet · 03/01/2019 13:36

Hi all,

Would love to join you all! Had miscarriage this time last year at 7 weeks. All I could think about then was getting back to normal and trying again, however my partner was totally freaked out by seeing me so upset and was devastated by it himself, so went back on the pill and put ttc on hold. Looked on the brightside and used it as an opportunity to lose some weight and get healthier so we could give ourselves the best chance for healthy pregnancy.

Smear test done as well, results showed changes so had to have a Lletz (I think that's what it's called!) early December.. No letter from hospital yet with results which I'm trying to see as a good thing!!! So after the all clear from that we are giving it our best shot!!

I'm going to start back the gym this week and start the healthy eating again - because of the procedure I had I wasn't allowed to excerise or have sex (still haven't yet Blush). Its been a real kick up the bum because although you are meant to google, I did and read about women having to have hysterectomies. Also everything you read is so doom and gloom RE ttc over 35 - just trying to keep positive and this thread is good inspiration!

Apologies for the long af first post, feels good to write all this down for some reason!

Kescilly · 03/01/2019 15:18

Hi @PheobeBuffet, welcome to the group! You've really been put through a lot in the last year and I hope that you get the all clear soon. I was really down about TTC over 35 and this thread helped me a lot. Yes, some of us will struggle, but I had friends struggling all through their twenties as well. Wishing you the best of luck on your TTC journey!

BambiOnIce80 · 03/01/2019 17:56

Crikey @Kescilly, you sound crazy busy! πŸ˜“ I get very grumpy if I have guests in my space for too long- I just end up craving normality (aka. onesie/sofa/Netflix!). I hope you're visa appointment is a piece of cake and that your scan is a breeze (I can't believe it's 20 weeks already!!).

DP and I will be having an enforced phone detox at the end of February too @Carley32 πŸ“΅ We're going back to a beautiful hotel in the remote north-west of Scotland that has exactly zero WiFi or 4G reception! πŸ˜‚ We went to the same place last year and DP looked very pale when he realised the WiFi situation, but actually loved it when all we did was play scrabble, drink gin/whisky and actually talk to one another! πŸ˜±πŸ˜‰ Him loving it so much is the reason we're doing it again a year on 😊

Welcome @PheobeBuffet πŸ‘‹ Sounds like you've had a really tough year of it πŸ˜”πŸ’ Fingers-crossed you get the all clear soon and the green light for the TTC fun can commence πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ€

Kescilly · 03/01/2019 23:34

@BambiOnIce80 I think it’s good we are keeping busy because otherwise I’d be more stressed about individual things. I can’t believe how far along I am either and am slightly bricking it, to be honest. I’m still struggling to believe that we will have a baby to bring home.

I’m also kind of sad about not being able to travel and do fun things! Is that horrible to say? Your trip to Scotland sounds amazing and I’m so jealous.

We were wondering if we could squeeze in a small UK trip in February, any suggestions? I can’t imagine that the weather will be great anywhere. I’ve never been to the south and we were thinking it could be nice to visit the southwest of England, but I’m not sure where.

BambiOnIce80 · 04/01/2019 07:56

Of course it's not horrible to say that @Kescilly! ❀️ Every time I have a "do I really want to TTC or should we just get a puppy/kitten?" wobble it's usually based around the things I think I'd be limited from doing if I was pregnant/had a bambino. I think it's perfectly normal (at least I hope so! πŸ˜‚).

I think you're right about the February weather - god only knows what it'll be doing, but it's fairly likely that it won't be 'nice' 😏 We went to the hotel I was talking about on valentines day last year and we had to drive through a total white-out blizzard to get there 🌨️ It's crazy-mild at the moment though, so who knows what'll happen this year?! I think a mini break before the baby arrives sounds like an awesome idea (I think I'd be hitting those pretty hard if I was pregnant! πŸ˜‰). I went to Cornwall once and it was very beautiful. Stayed in a little village called Polperro, which was ridiculously picturesque.

Happy new year lovelies! Hoping you all have BFPs in 2019! πŸŽ‰

VenusStarr · 04/01/2019 10:25

Hi everyone, hope you are all getting on OK. Feel like my mood is lifting slightly, being back at work has helped a bit. Went to the gym last night and ran 3k which isn't too bad for me. Off to badminton tonight with dh. Also off out for lunch with friends on Sunday. Taking each day slowly and taking time out when I'm feeling overwhelmed and walking at lunchtime.

Af is due anytime now but don't really feel like I usually do.

Have a lovely day all 🌟

ladybranstonpickle · 04/01/2019 11:17

happy new year everyone!

my nuvaring is out (jan 1) and i have started the withdrawal bleed. so exciting and terrifying at the same time.

i am not sure yet whether i want to use OPKs this month, feels like it might be a bit stressful?

MrsRRC · 04/01/2019 12:27

@Kescilly how about Port Merrion it’s gorgeous. Also I think I would be very focused on good food seeing as you can’t imbibe booze right now.

Or, and obviously I am biased, Kent is full of lovely places. Whitstable is right on the sea and is gorgeous in the summer, there are some beautiful restaurants and plenty of little galleries and shops and it’s very close to Canterbury if you get bored and want to go shopping and check out the Cathedral.

MrsRRC · 04/01/2019 12:35

@79andnotout the soup was really good, hearty and healthy. Definitely one I’ll be doing again. Going to spend some time in the kitchen this weekend making more lunchtime meals. I am so sick of sandwiches!

Got to say this week back at work has been a struggle. It’s relatively quiet in the office and I am lacking in motivation.

Also horribly bloated. Probably more to do with Christmas than anything else!

We’re off to a Michelin starred restaurant for DH’s birthday this weekend with a group of friends, am just concocting part two of Wisdom toothgate to explain my abstentions! I will be drooling over the wine and oysters.

MrsRRC · 04/01/2019 12:35

Gah! I pressed post too soon. What is everyone else up to this weekend?

BambiOnIce80 · 04/01/2019 13:05

Very glad you're starting to feel a bit better @VenusStarr 😊 I'm keeping everything crossed that you feeling a bit different on the run up to AF is a good signπŸ€žπŸ»πŸ€

Your weekend plans sound awesome @MrsRRC! 😎 I'm very sad to say my weekend plans don't include any Michelin starred restaurants 😏 Think mine will be quiet because we're away the following weekend (so enjoying the calm before the storm, really πŸ™„).

Welcome @ladybranstonpickle πŸ‘‹ First cycle for you and exciting times ahead! I'd probably advise leaving the OPK's alone for the first few months if your cycle is regular and just input your dates into a free app to get the prediction of fertile week. OPK's are great if your cycles are irregular or if you've been trying a while and you want to check your likely to be ovulating, but I think they can make TTC a lot less relaxed (in my experience, anyway).x

That sounds just perfect @BambiOnIce80 I’m quite jealous too. It’s surprising how much these little things control your ability to communicate IRL.

Sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough time @PheobeBuffet. I hope a new year brings better and exciting times for you.

Well I tested using my CB OPK. Empty face πŸ˜’ maybe my cycles aren’t getting back to normal after all. Or maybe Iv drunk and eaten so selfishly that I had no chance anyway. Who knows 🀞 I tested to late and it happened without me knowing.
