Morning all

Kensgirl - didn't read your post properly and looked in vain for 500mcg folic acid at Boots yesterday. Doh! Will have to book appt with GP and hope they know about the latest advice.

Wheely - where did you get your coeliac test done? I'm interested in getting this done as I am not short (5ft 10)and had a big baby and conceive easily BUT having had 3 m/c in a row I will try anything. Also I do think I have a slight allergy to gluten in that I get bloated when I eat it.

ronshar · 09/08/2007 10:56

Its my birthday and I shall not cry because I am soooooo old!
31st, 2.30pm Upper High Street. It is burnt onto my eyelids so I do not forget. All I have to do now is not talk myself out of going as scared of meeting ladies who I have bored with my tales of woe over the last 5months.
I am also more than happy to do another meet for cake in Oct.
I was lurking out in the rest of MN and there is a xmas party being organised in London. I think the 1st Dec was the date. How about we go to that too. And get drunk??
Or just sip orange juice(boring but hopefully necessary for some of us)?

ronshar · 09/08/2007 11:02

, , , .
Ellie congratumalations, being married is fab. we have been married for all 9months so I am still happy. We have been together for 10 years mind you so I kinda knew what I was getting! Snoring and all

EllieG · 09/08/2007 11:12

Good idea ronshar! And thank you for congratlations (mine snores too). And happy birthday!

Have a virtual cake with some candles.

I like the idea of october cake fest - I am coming on thurs 11th Oct for a conference but is only one day and am going to stay for a long weekend. Also like idea of Dec party though as you say, we might all be up the duff by then (ain't holding out that much hope cos it's been 5 months so far, ho hum).

ladylush · 09/08/2007 11:12

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONSHAR [GRIN] Sorry, didn't mean to shout! I am old too if it's any consolation. Have a lovely day

ladylush · 09/08/2007 11:20

Oops - doesn't work in capitals! Hoping I can make the 31st but if not, October will be good. I put my name down for the xmas party, then I started to get scared as some of those ladies are fierce. So if some of you are going I might be more inclined to go along.

ronshar · 09/08/2007 12:18

Yes they scare the pants off me. Thats why I thought I would ask you lovely ladies.
Safety in numbers
I am 33 ssshhh. Dont tell anyone.

nh101 · 09/08/2007 12:21

Ellie that's fab! Be careful tho - my sis was TTC for over two years and then as soon as she booked her wedding she conceived! (They postponed the wedding)

Does anyone know... My SIL said last night that OVP sticks can also detect pregnancy. She says her fertility doc (she has been ttc for two years) told her that. He said it was like "having a hat on" or something...

Anyone know if this is true?

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 12:22

Morning girls
just got in to work after fab reflexology session - feeling very chilled hooray

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 12:28

nh101 · 09/08/2007 12:28

Just googled it and found this....

messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-praug07n&msg=2058.3

It says that OPK sticks will give you a positive result if you are PG... but I assume they will only give a +ve result when hcg is high enough eg when a HPT would work anyway.

Wheelybug · 09/08/2007 12:42

Hi All

Happy Birthday RONSHAR !! 33 is hardly old (I am 32 so 33 can't be old....)

NH - OPKs can give a positive if pg - its something scientific to do with LH having the same (molecular ?) make up as HCG - I am not a scientist so can't explain it really well but I know it can.

Defo do an October cakefest - I could make it at 2.30 but am on hols for 31 Aug.

Ladylush - I had my coeliac test done through my gp, its just a blood test. I just told her what i'd heard and she said fine, have that done as well (but she is/was (as unforetunately she's left, very willing to do tests if youre worried about something).

Popsy - well done on the buying of baby clothes sans sobbing ....

nh101 · 09/08/2007 13:40

Thanks Wheely, do you know how quickly OPKs give a positive. Is it 10-14 days after conception like HPTs?

Wheelybug · 09/08/2007 13:52

I reckon so NH as they are detecting the same hormone - if anything I think it might be longer than some of hte more sensitive tests. Are you trying to tell us something ?

scorpio1 · 09/08/2007 13:56

they detect it earlier-the hormone isnt hcg, its LH, i think, something to do with the yolk sac? but yes, they will give a ++

opk as pg test

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 14:13

spill the beans obinh101kenobie.....

OP posts:
nh101 · 09/08/2007 14:19

Ha Ha, I wish wheely! No, I am still here on CD65.... I think I may never have another period!

I have started using OPK sticks again just in case I haven't ovulated yet this "month", I am only getting faint lines on them so I don't think I am PG or ovulating (yet).

I just wondered about the OPK sticks also being able to detect pregnancy cos my SIL said it the other night, and I'd never heard that before. I thought it couldn't possibly be right.

But I stand corrected!

nh101 · 09/08/2007 14:20

X-posted there Popsy!

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 14:24

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 14:26

p.s. sorry for getting all over excited there obi - just WANT ONE OF US OLD-TIMERS TO HAVE SOME BLIMMIN GOOD NEWS IYSWIM?
p.p.s. lesley regans book is good though now wondering which type of genetic defect my beanie had or whether being at a vet school means i got some horrid farm animal disease... cat has got to go at very least.... JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
nh101 · 09/08/2007 14:44

I do too Popsy - fingers crossed for us all

I haven't been very obi-like for the past few months have I? I've been pretty down but am feeling much better at the mo. I think it is cos I am 'taking control' by going the docs about my non-existent period. He can give me drugs to make me ovulate which so I am not worried about that too much now.

popsy76 · 09/08/2007 14:46

that is great news - are you going on clomid? My friend had immediate success with it (do you find you sometime wish they would find soemthing worng so they could just give you a drug and make it better??)

OP posts:
EllieG · 09/08/2007 14:47

Am trying very hard not to think about testing. Just looked on the ovulation calendar and don't think bd'd at the right time so sure it will be no go this month. Plus have cramps. Will be able to tell tomorrow but NOT testing.

Really, really want another cake fest in Oct. Agree about the xmas thing - other MNers can be a bit scary
