We seem to have filled up our last thread so here is a new one.

A wonderful bunch of ladies supporting each other through the ttc journey when trying for a first baby after 35.

Goodluck to all ladies we can do it Smile

How annoying!

PixieN · 20/09/2018 18:40

Yay! @Kescilly - that’s brilliant news Smile xxx

Carley32 · 20/09/2018 20:14

@Kescilly aw that’s lush. Special times! So pleased for you.

@newbie on damn!! Sorry Hun. Enjoy the wine and get cracking again this month... good luck!

I really want to get involved in all the testing and ovulation talk!! 🙈. Damn you unreliable AF! X

BambiOnIce80 · 20/09/2018 20:23

@TheNewbieStep, sorry for AF rocking up 😔 I'm upping it to being 95% sure I'll be joining you tomorrow!

@Kescilly, glad you've got you're nurse consultation tomorrow 🙂 I'm sure they'll keep you right with your meds 👍 Did you say you were long hauling somewhere soon? Anywhere exciting? Wine tasting was indeed tonight and was very pleasant indeed 🥂 I'm only 5% worried that my AF symptoms let me down and I shouldn't have been drinking! I'm sure she'll be rocking up tomorrow though...

@Carley32, I'm sure it'll be just around the corner 😉

@79andnotout, that is pretty poor service for the private sector 😕 Hope they get a good result back to you tomorrow 🤞🏻🍀

Carley32 · 20/09/2018 20:41

@good luck Bambi 🤞. Yea hopefully something will give soon. It’s so hard to plan and arrange.

Speaking of alcohol I am supposed to be having a girly cocktails arvo on sat, but the same as you.. I feel so guilty drinking. I feel should I hold off doing the business until Sat so I can drink guilt free? Or hope for the best and limit my alcohol? 🤷‍♀️ It’s all so frustrating when plans are made!

I’m sure meds will get sorted @kescilly. X

PixieN · 20/09/2018 21:28

Just read thorough the messages properly - finding it tricky to stay caught up with everyone. I hardly get chance to check on the thread in the day. Just been out for a birthday meal. Twice in one week lol. Sorry to hear about AF @TheNewbieStep Flowers
Still crossing fingers for you @BambieOnIce Hoping this is a lucky thread for us all 🍀 x

Hope you get your results soon @79andnotout very annoying when you’ve paid for the tests Hmm

And hope you’re celebrating with some cheesecake @kescillly Grin

Kescilly · 20/09/2018 22:14

Is it your birthday, @PixieN? How did I miss that? The thread does move fast! I didn't celebrate with any sort of cake, I'm worried about my weight and this pregnancy. Determined to eat as healthfully as possible!

@Carley32 do you think temping would help you figure out if you're ovulating? I have no patience for it but lots of people swear by it.

@BambiOnIce80 we are flying to the US to visit my family (I'm American). I'm torn because I'd love to tell everyone in person but it's just too early. If this pregnancy sticks though, I don't know the next time I'll be back. It's hard being so far away.

I'm glad you had fun tonight! I don't even drink much but found myself thinking about my last glass of wine. Had I known I might have asked for another!

Carley32 · 20/09/2018 22:27

@kescilly no I assumed that would also need a regular AF? Or be very patient because i assume I’d need to do it for a few months first to see peaks and falls?
Aww that is a dilemma for you. There is always FaceTime if you do decide against telling them!

Happy Birthday 🎁🎉 @pixie ? X

PixieN · 20/09/2018 23:12

Haha - no it’s not my birthday. It’s my DHs. Good for you being healthy @kescilly I’ve had cheesecake 2 days in a row 🙈😳😁 Back on to healthy eating tomorrow!

BambiOnIce80 · 21/09/2018 07:53

@Carley32 if you're not sure where you are in your cycle, maybe take a FRER on Saturday morning so that you can be pretty sure you can have cocktails guilt free? One of the TTC things that has previously done my head in is avoiding having lovely cocktails with lovely friends, only to then have AF turn up the next day!

@Kescilly I see what you mean about the 'to tell or not to tell' dilemma. I think I'd probably keep it to myself until first scans and what not were out the way, but then I don't have a very close family so I wouldn't turn to them for support if it didn't stick... it's a tricky one 🤔

AF didn't greet me first thing this morning, but I can feel her lurking around the corner. Pretty sure she'll show up before today's out - probably just after the GP's close so I won't be able to ring to arrange my 'it's been 6 months of trying and I'm old' appointment until Monday... AF really is a bee-aitch! 😒

BambiOnIce80 · 21/09/2018 07:55

Sorry!! No idea how I managed to double post!! 😰

QuantumGirl · 21/09/2018 08:22

@Carley32 I'm with Bambi. Make THE MOST of this 'unknown' period (no pun intended) and enjoy your cocktails with the girls. You will miss having drinks when you get back on track, your body is still recovering from the effects of the pill 🥂🍸🍹

79andnotout · 21/09/2018 08:53

Yeah fuck it, if cocktails were that bad for TTC then I imagine hardly any of us would have been born? My dear old alcoholic ma drank her way through a couple of bottles of wine and smoked sixty fags per day throughout mine and my siblings pregnancies, and we have been by and large healthy and intelligent. Certainly not advocating that, but it makes me keep some perspective.

Noodella18 · 21/09/2018 09:27

My mate tested on New Year's Eve and BFN. She then hit it hard, we're talking booze, drugs, the works. Went on holiday with her mum the next week, wine at the airport, wine the first night, wine when the slopes were closed... And then got a BFP. Only started taking folic acid that day. She had a completely normal pregnancy and a beautiful, normal, happy little girl. Sister got smashed when she didn't realise she was preggo. Obviously it's not 100% ideal but it's really not that big an issue if it's a one off. According to GP partner things like foetal alcohol syndrome only kick in if there is drinking over an extended period of time.

Speaking of period, @bambi, if you're pretty sure it's round the corner cant you just ring up the surgery today anyway and get an appt? The worst that can happen is that you have to cancel it (and that would mean you were preggo, so not a bad silver lining!!!)

BambiOnIce80 · 21/09/2018 10:52

@Noodella18, you've made me feel waaay better about my 'devil may care' attitude at the wine tasting last night with AF due today 🍷😂 Even though I can feel it coming on, there's still that 5% whispering in my ear "shit, what if I'm wrong?!".

It would indeed make a lot of sense to call the GP's today and get a date in the diary. That'll be a job for lunch break 👍

Noodella18 · 21/09/2018 10:58

@bambi haha glad I could help! (This isn't at all related to the fact that I'm trying to reassure myself after I got pissed not once but twice during the TWW before I got my BFP...) Seriously though, I'm pretty sure thousands of babies are exposed to all sorts of terrible substances in the first month because the mums don't realise, and don't come to any harm.

79andnotout · 21/09/2018 12:50

I got my results. AMH last August was 8.1, and now is 10.3 pmol/L (same lab). So, it looks like my egg reserve is low for my age but pretty stable (accounting for some lab error, which is why it's gone up slightly), so I'm not rapidly lurching towards menopause!
Obvs that says nothing about my egg quality, but I'm taking it as a win.

Kescilly · 21/09/2018 13:10

That's good to hear, @79andnotout. Glad you finally got your results!

BambiOnIce80 · 21/09/2018 13:26

@79andnotout, that is very good news about the egg reserves - definitely a win 👍

Blondcat · 21/09/2018 13:39

@79andnotout that is good news when you finally got the results. Hopefully you will have your bfp soon x

I had my phone appointment and it was clear as mud. He didn’t have any actual advice on the dosage of my meds, just that it was safe to continue to take them (which I already knew). I asked him what I was meant to do next and he just said I could make an appointment if I really wanted to. I don’t want to waste NHS resources but surely I’m not meant to amble on for the rest of my pregnancy with no direction?

Beeseeinya · 21/09/2018 14:35

Huuuuge congrats on your BFP @Kescilly StarStarStar

And well done for that basket of eggs @79andnotout ;)

I am on CD 6 and got a faint line on the OPK (nothing for two days prior). A little excited to see my first sign of something going on all up in there.

Bit confused about the cheap opks needing afternoon wee, and the clearblue one needing first morning wee?

I am considering switching to the clearblue tests from tomorrow, or maybe trying both.... since this is my first data experiment, and I'm not yet at the point where the money feels wasted!

Noodella18 · 21/09/2018 16:27

@kescilly what did he say when you asked what to do about dosage? Did he give an answer? Are you sure the dosage is supposed to change? I'm on medication and the advice was just to keep on going with them in the same way and just to get in touch if I had a change of symptoms, and I was told I didn't need to go in unless I wanted to.

If you're sure it needs changing then I guess book another appt?

Kescilly · 21/09/2018 17:26

@Noodella18 he said I could keep taking the medicine and when I asked about the dose he repeated that it's fine to take it. It's a thyroid medication that usually is adjusted immediately in pregnancy. And my levels weren't right even pre-pregnancy, they've been making adjustments lately based on blood tests.

I'm nervous about this because almost every doctor I've seen has mentioned that they'd want to closely monitor this if I were to get pregnant. I also don't understand what I'm meant to do in general. Just contact the surgery again if I make it to 12 weeks?

Anyway I can't worry about it for now, as we are off tomorrow morning!

@Beeseeinya thank you! I know what you mean about the strips and CB tests needing different times. I think if you are good with the strips, it provides a more accurate window for your surge. I used the CB monitor and wondered if I was missing my surge. I think I read somewhere that the surge is more likely to happen in the afternoon?
