Hi Hester, so sorry about AF.

Don't know an awful lot about menopause, but think cycles are more irregular as opposed to just getting shorter and that the actual af bit is varied in length and heaviness too...

I've actually heard that people get more fertile for a while pre-menopause but know you've been ttc for a long time so maybe that phase is yet to come? Let's hope so! Another reason to not give up at 41 and something to help with keeping a positive mental attitude perhaps? (Think pma is important even if just for retaining sanity - how about we use MN for venting the negative thoughts and stay positive in the 'real' world - like DIY / cyber reiki?)

Another thing (possibly misguided and unhelpful, but truly hope not) - if your cycles are shorter then does it give you more chances per year than if they were getting longer?

Wishing you extra babydust. x

Know what you mean sweetheart, I tried not to be too scientific and then when I started temping tried to be discreet i.e. not let dh know! But thermometer alarm wasn't helpful... also temping did make me even more obsessive so for the last month just did it from day 10 until ovulation and have stopped altogether now.

I'm not convinced by ov sticks - only becoz they seem to give me a positive even after I've ovulated (don't ask me why I was testing after ovulation - told you I was obsessive!).

I'm now going to go with the natural signs and just bd as much as possible - have also banned dh from boys weekends away for the moment as he's missed ov twice in the last few months!

Must. do. some. work.

bye!

miranda2 · 19/08/2004 11:07

just had a positive test!!!!!!
V early days - only 14 DPO but couldn't wait to test. So maybe temp charting does help - it was my first month of charting. Not telling anyone yet (except dh this morning obviously - I asked if i should test, he said no, wait a few days as the tests are so expensive. I said OK, then thought no i want to test anyway, and then told him!!) so its great to be able to tell you guys. Lots of babydust to all of you!

Azure · 19/08/2004 11:16

Fantastic news Miranda2 - many congratulations . Will you be joining us on the April thread? The first graduate of Becki's thread already!

sweetheart · 19/08/2004 11:17

I think testing after ovulation is definalty obsessive bibi!!!!

I went out and brought some first response tests the other day - just having them in the house was driving me mad. I ended up testing on Sunday. It was negative but I'm still hopeful, after all it was only 6 days after ovulation!!!!

I think you and i will get along well

Twiga · 19/08/2004 12:16

Great news miranda2, our first graduate, congratulations! All the best for a happy, healthy pregnancy !!!

hester · 19/08/2004 12:34

And Bibi20 - many thanks.

Cyndii · 19/08/2004 13:12

bluestar · 19/08/2004 13:21

miranda2, congratulations!!!!!!!!!

tex111 · 19/08/2004 13:34

Congratulations Miranda2!! Our first grad! Any symptoms yet?

Sweetheart and Bibi, add me to the obsessives club. I use OPKs after ovulating too (just to make sure) and I took 5 hpts last month , one of them just six days after ovulating! All BFNs but I always feel better after weeing on a stick. I guess it just gets it out of my system for a few days.

Massive congrats Miranda!!!
I've just started the fertility friend as well, joined last month but was pretty inconsistent.
Will see what happens this month...
AF just ending today it seems so here we go on the rollercoaster again....

sweetheart · 19/08/2004 14:01

I seem to be following you areound today piffle!!! This is the 3rd place i've seen u

Cyndii · 19/08/2004 14:19

tex111 your comment "I always feel better after weeing on a stick" ~ I must say made me laugh!!

When I told my husband that I've just order 40 tests he told me that I was mad and getting myself worked up but when I explained my logic that I have already spent E45 on 3 tests that I was actually saving money, he laughed and said matter of factly (such a word????) that I shouldn't even have to spend 1c until well after my af was to arrive, but little obsessive me I like to cheat and test myself 3-4 days before af due!!! Like at Christmas shaking the presents under the tree............. but girls I'm telling you this has be our turn!!

logic · 19/08/2004 14:26

Pamina3 - thanks for the tip about the medisave tests...

I am making myself wait until the 26th to test again because that was the date that my AF started on last month. I do feel very odd this month but I don't want to get my hopes up.

sweetheart · 19/08/2004 14:38

Just checked out that Medisave website - OMG!!!

I really really wish I'd known about that 6 months ago - I could have saved myself somewhere in the region of £150!!!!!!

Oh well, hopefully it's too late now. But if AF comes I'll definalty be logging on again to stock up!!!

BeckiF · 19/08/2004 15:38

Hello Ladies! My this thread has got busy already! So many new faces and some of the usual too! I was feeling optimisitc in the week that maybe a pregnancy had sprung the ultimate surprise on me, as I had terrible back ache and period type pains since Sunday ... pulled myself together this morning and reminded myself it is just SO unlikely to happen naturally! None the less, I will wee on a stick on Tuesday before I go off to see my ol' pal the gynae doc! I might even ask for a course of Clomid as I'm desperate to conceive the old fashioned way where you make love and it just happens

Thanks for all the congratulations and best wishes!
No symptoms yet really - but then i didn't really have any with ds, jsut felt very tired for the first four months. Am off to bed now actually for a little nap before picking ds up from nursery - any excuse for a snooze! Really hoping i don't get m/s this time - didn't last time, lucky me. good luck to all of you for this month!

hester · 19/08/2004 15:47

Ooh me too, BeckiF! Good luck with the doc.

BeckiF · 19/08/2004 16:33

Ooops I meant to congratulate you Miranda2, I am so sorry! Well done

tex111 · 19/08/2004 16:55

For everyone who ends up testing early (like me) did you see the super sensitive tests on the Medisave site? I did a little research and the First Response tests can detect 25iui (I think that's the abbreviation) of HCG. Which means you can get a BFP up to three days before AF is due, or a little earlier if you're lucky. The super sensitive Medisave tests can detect as little as 10iui of HCG so you can test even earlier. Brilliant!

Fonzie · 19/08/2004 16:56

Congrats Miranda! I've just been with DS1 to hairdresser and found out that the salon owner is pregnant with #2 - I think her DS1 isn't quite 1 year yet. Felt very depressed initially and then reminded myself that we would like a summer baby and not winter one. Not that there's anything wrong with winter babies as I'm one myself! Twiga, glad to see that somebody else is experiencing the same "summer", probably down to the fact that I'm in Aberdeen too! Must go, DS1 is itching for his tea. Have a great time in Egypt, Runtus.

Twiga · 19/08/2004 18:09

Well AF just about over so looks like we'll be busy from tonight onwards - need to balance a passion killing visit to Tesco with a cosy night in with a chinese.

Fonzie what is it with Aberdeen, just when you think it's safe to hang the washing out....... How did you find maternity services and stuff up here?

Pamina3, don't you worry about health professionals if you are pg again, you're an adult with choices, don't take any rubbish - just enjoy if you are, everyone's different and the need to start again is perfectly understandable. We didn't take a break either, didn't see much point for one month.

Tex111/Cyndii, I love the way your minds work and know exactly what you mean. Will look out for the super-sensitive tests when we order this time - dh ordered last time and just got the normal ones, said I'm obsessive enough, think I'll have to help out this time!

BeckiF, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, hope it all works out, good luck for Tuesdays appt. What a busy thread you've started!

Twiga · 19/08/2004 18:25

did anyone esle just catch that lovely story on BBC news? lady in Belgium had cancer and told the treatment would leave her infertile - they froze some of her ovarian tissue and replaced it after the treatment for cancer, she concieved naturally and is not far off delivering. Apparently this could soon be a common operation and is new hope for ladies undergoing cancer treatments - what a cool story!

katierocket · 19/08/2004 18:55

Hester, YES! I would love a glass of wine and a moan. It's s**t isn't it
I have to say that I haven't had much PMA recently so must try harder. You just feel like "oh no, not another month".

BeckiF, I really hope it happens for you - you stand a better chance being the thread starter, definitely extra baby dust for that
