it really can get you down Azure can't it? I can spend hours thinking of the difference between a 1 yr old and a 5 yr old or a 4 yr old an an 8 yr old and so on. You're right though, when possible, best not to think about it.

when is the earliest you can test realistically. I am one of the philosophical ones who just waits for her af, then I'd test say the next week or soething... I didn't know you can test before af is due?
Really, golly how tempting and how potentially expensive!

runtus · 06/08/2004 11:27

I would just like to add something to the whole ' whats the best age gap' debate. My mum fell prg with me when my sister was just 2 months old and I know from experience that there is such a thing as too small an age gap! When we were younger we did nothing but fight and compete becuase really we were the same age, had the same friends, fancied the same boys etc.. We get on great now and are happy to be the same age (sort of) but growing up it was hell. Talk about clash!

That said, my borther is 4 years older than me (and therefore about 3 years older than my sister) and we hardly know him at all. It sort of feels like there is a real generation gap between us if you know what I mean.

I don't think there is a 'perfect' age gap - you are what you are and it happens when it happens, by worrying about it all you will do is make yourself tense and jeopardise your chances of ttc. My advice (and I know I am yet to get pg so ignore me if you want) is enjoy your kids now!

tex111 · 06/08/2004 12:41

Piffleofagus, some of the home pregnancy tests are more sensitve and you can test up to three days before AF is due. My fave is First Response. I got a light BFP with DS at 9dpo, about 4 days before AF was due! Brilliant, but you're right, very expensive.

Tania2 · 06/08/2004 13:18

Bugger!! iam driving myself insane. I keep going to the toilet to check if af has arrived (due on Sunday its 10:15 friday night in Oz)I have promised myself i will not do a test unless af doesnt arrive and that i wont test until after my birthday on the 15th. reading into things too much as usual. headaches, tired (only today), weeing lots and cleaned out all my cupboards in my kitchen. last time pg i washed all the walls in my house. stop it! stop it! stop it! But iam spotting in the mornings. am i being silly

Azure · 06/08/2004 13:33

Tania2 not silly, just normal. There are plenty of people who have experienced spotting but been pregnant - unfortunately, it's just a waiting game. Best of luck - and get some sleep!!

Hi Tania2

If you're being silly then you're part of a very large club methinks...

I'm either 4 or 6 dpo (had a couple of drunken late nights last weekend and fertility friend isn't sure of my o date due to erratic temps!) and I'm already doing my usual obsessive examination of all twinges and sensations... roll on next week when I cease to function as a normal human being because I'm so busy rushing to the loo, checking my boobs and surfing mumsnet for people with who are pregnant who had the same 'symptoms'...

Bibi

runtus · 06/08/2004 15:40

You are certainly no sillier than me.

I currently have a funny taste in my mouth and even though I am only on day 11 of my cycle, there is a bit of me going 'ooh, this could be a sign, lots of people talk about a metallic taste as an early prg sign'.

We'll all bebatty by the time we do fall!

runtus · 06/08/2004 15:43

Is it just me or has Friday afternoon fever set in?? I really want to go and sit in the sun!!

(D)

xoz · 06/08/2004 16:07

I haven't tested yet but AF's not due til tommorrow. I really want to but I just can't bring myself to use a test until there's a reason to. I can't believe how expensive they are!!!! They know they have a captive market don't they. It makes me feel a bit exploited really... I try not to think about it too much.
As to the age gap thing. I ave 21 omtnhs between dd1 & dd2, which was less than I wanted (would've liked about 2.5 years) and i I'm not pg this month then it will be a bigger gap than that.My two get on really well at the moment (for their age and I hope that continue as they grow up) but I think it is often more about personality.
Runtus - I've just come in. We had a picnic in the park for lunch and it was lovely.

lostinparis · 06/08/2004 16:23

I've been thinking about how ridiculously priced pg tests are too. I think we should check on the manufacturers' websites what other products they make for women and then boycott them until they bring the price of their pg tests down to a more reasonable price and until they put more than 7 sticks in an ov test pack!

Twiga · 06/08/2004 18:16

Dh is a Doc and was somewhat fed up with the cost of pregnancy tests too, particularly as I was using heaps in my desparation to know had we done it - eventually got annoyed enough and ordered some tests at www.medisave.co.uk, which are the ones they use in hospitals and are really cheap. Link to follow is Medisave.co.uk . Which will take you to the test page! Example - Packs of 20 at £6.25 plus delivery. Anyone can buy from this site, don't have to be a DR.
Only draw back is you need a container to pee into - plastic drinks cups are the cheapest thing, test come with wee plastic pippetes to then transfer said pee to test!
There's a nac to avoiding peeing on own hand but aim comes with practice ! Hope this helps x

ShouldKnowByFriday · 06/08/2004 18:35

Azure, thanks for asking. No AF, no pains, not feeling grumpy or premenstrual (good sign) but took test when I got home this evening at 6pm and got a BFN - used Predictor cos that's all they had in Waitrose. First day of last period was 1st July so now day 37, ususally have a 32-34 day cycle and wonderting if its the heat that's making me late? Confused. Didn't know when egg arrived in cycle either or even if it did.
DH prodded tum yesterday and asked if there was a baby in it! Feel bloated and puffy due to heat. I don't know what to think. Should I accept that AF is late for a reason other than preg or should I stay hopeful? SOOOOOOOOOOOO bored with the whole subject now.

ShouldKnowByFriday · 06/08/2004 18:36

P.S. Have never been late due to hot weather before.

katierocket · 06/08/2004 19:10

SKBF - sounds hopeful to me. fingers crossed.

ChaCha · 06/08/2004 20:59

Ohhhhh Fingers crossed for a few of you, sounds hopeful!

Whooopeee doooo, Friday night again!
CD26...

ShouldKnowByFriday · 06/08/2004 21:29

I have just woken up after putting DD to bed at 7.30pm and I fell asleep as well!! So it's 9.15pm and I am ready for MumsNet! DH out with friends so that's perfect.
ChaCha and Katierocket, don't you think it's odd that there isn't even a faint line in preg test? Surely being this late if I was pg I should at least have had a pos result by now? I have read of other Mumsnetters getting a BFP 3 days BEFORE or ON the day AF is due. Just seems odd that's that I am definitely late and really the test should indicate one way or the other for sure by now. And it has... BFN.
Oh no, starting to ramble again.....!

bluestar · 06/08/2004 21:41

SKBF, with ds1, I didn't get a positive test until just over 5 weeks. Someone I know didn't test positive until they were 12 weeks pregnant even though they had loads of other signs. Good luck.

Runtus, sometimes I get a metallic taste in my mouth just before AF. You really cannot read too much into any symptoms, after a while, it just does your head in. Sadly the pg symptoms are often the same as AF ones. Does anyone really think god is a woman?????????

Tania2 · 06/08/2004 23:07

SKBF good luck sound promising.
well i think AF arrived this morning will have to wait a couple of hours and check if still there. sorry for too much info but wondering if anyone else gets this. I only seem to get spotting in the week b4 AF when i go to the loo in morning after doing a poo then later nothing. give it that this moring it was a bit more and i am having slight cramps. I am starting to not want to go in the mornings just in case. Tipping that i can count this month out though. Bugger Bugger Bugger!!!!%$#@&

logic · 07/08/2004 15:03

I'm sorry you're having a bad day, Tania2

As one of my friends said to me today - "Chin up and keep having fun practising!"

ChaCha · 07/08/2004 20:50

CD27...waiting..and..waiting. Last month was only a 25 day cycle. I'm going to be so pissed off if AF arrives, just once, just once, let me see a BFP! I cant keep up sex kitten routine for another month! zzzzzz......

Seabird · 07/08/2004 21:50

ooh ChaCha, sounds promising!! Are you tempted to test...? Good luck++++

ShouldKnowByFriday · 07/08/2004 23:31

Oh ChaCha, you are funny about the sex kitten bit! Sorry Tania I didn't understand if AF arrived or not...hopefully not for both of you, in fact, ALL OF US!!
Day 38 is coming to an end and no AF, wanted to ask bluestar what her cycle ususally is as she said she was 5wks pg when BFP.
Am going to buy an early response test on Monday when I am out and about. Don't have any cramps or anything really, just sensitive boobs.
Thanks everybody for your support. Am going to feel so silly if I am not pg.

ChaCha · 08/08/2004 09:05

ShouldknowbyFriday - You wont feel silly, i feel silly almost every other cycle, LOL Good luck, fingers crossed, i really hope this is your month
