I have zero evidence for this, but I think a type II diabetes diet might be the best way to go for PCOS. In both cases, what you are trying to address is a problem with insulin sensitivity.

I've been going for medium-low carb and sugar. I don't cut out everything, just enough to make sure that I am not eating high GI meals. Simply cutting out processed foods got rid of most of my carb/sugar intake anyway. I try to eat lots of veggies, protein and fat. And I count calories, because I need to lose weight too.

Just had my folicale tracking scan. 1 dominant folicale at 15mm. Like everyone else I feel really positive about this cycle. So here's to lots of DTD between now and Perhaps Tuesday.

Going to start opks 2moro - even though if bloody hate them -

SLady · 30/03/2017 16:17

Sounds good amy does ovulation happen at 18mm? Out of interest how does everyone work around the clinic appointments and work? I am really nervous about this...I'm not sure how many times I can have a "dentist" or "doctors" appointment

looking4hope · 30/03/2017 17:03

SLady, I just said that recent investigations revealed a problem and I need to do a lot of tests to get to the bottom of it (which is not a lie). They seemed okay with the explanation.

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 18:10

Good follicle size Amy, that's great news. You should ovulate in the next 2-3 days!

AmyC86 · 30/03/2017 19:46

Last month, I had a 20mm folicale on the Thursday at my Scan. Got a positive OPK on the following Tuesday, but I think that I was probably about 24 hours too late & I just caught the tailend of the surge. I did get a questionable opk on the Monday so it was one of those things. My period came exactly 14 days following that, which does explain that I'd probably missed ovulation by at least 24 hours, maybe even a little longer.

So, with that wisdom. I think that I ovulate when my folicals are 22mm going with the basis that they grow a mm a day. Ovulation is to be expected between Tuesday and Thursday of next week.

I'll keep track with the opks, not sure how I'm going to manage that in work but we'll see!!

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 20:19

If you know you've got a lead follicle, I'd ditch to opks and DTD every other day for the next week/10 days to cover yourself. I used 2 opks Monday/Tuesday this week, didn't get a positive so gave up. Been DTD every other day since cd10 and will do until cd20. Either I've missed the lh surge or it's happened in the last 24 hours but I should be covered either way. Opks just stress me out with their inaccuracy. Plus does anyone know if a follicle always grows to the same size each time one ovulates?

Also, how ridiculously complicated is it to get knocked up?? How do so many people get pregnant with no issue??? Hmm

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 20:21

Having said that, I think I was advised that I'd ovulate on a Sunday last cycle and we stopped trying after that Sunday and I reckon I missed it too. Fuck, why is it so hard?!

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 20:22

Bah.

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 20:22

Either way Amy, huge good luck and all things crossed for you x

Avocadosmoothie · 30/03/2017 20:25

Hi guys, is anyone able to give me an opinion on whether I have PCOS or not? My GP says no, one consultant I've seen says borderline and another said unsure! Here are my details:

Day 21 progesterone - 28
Day 20 scan showing luteal body
Androgen level - v v v slightly above the normal range but apparently 'no clinical significance'
AMH - 56.44
Day 4 FSH - 6.8
Day 4 LH - 11.6
No acne
No excess hair
Not overweight
No signs of PCOS from scans.

What do you think? Would be grateful for comments 😀

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 20:49

It doesn't sound like you do.. I don't know what the figures should be but if your scan shows normal ovaries then it's unlikely.

What length cycle do you usually have? Have the bloods been done on the right days in your cycle? Do you have regular periods, do you know if you ovulate? My understanding is that a score above 16 means you have ovulated.

Avocadosmoothie · 30/03/2017 21:03

Thanks so much for the response! Scans show normal ovaries and I had a luteal body on CD 20 which I think proves ovulation. I have regular cycles which last between 28 and 32 days. The AMH result, raised androgen and LH:FSH ratio I think suggest PCOS though? Sorry to butt into this conversation, I'm just so confused and I knew there would be a lot of knowledge here!

satsoooma · 30/03/2017 21:06

Hi avocado, I doubt that you have PCOS if you have regular periods.

OP posts:
YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 21:06

You're not butting in at all, but I don't know a lot about the ratios.

Got this from the NHS website.

PCOS support thread
looking4hope · 30/03/2017 21:09

As far as I know the LH:FSH ratio should be over 2 to indicate PCOS. In your case, it's lower than 2. Based on the fact you don't have other symptoms, I'd say you don't have PCOS.

Avocadosmoothie · 30/03/2017 21:26

Thanks for the opinions guys, it's so good to be able to chat to someone, thank god for Mumsnet!

AmyC86 · 30/03/2017 21:58

Tbh Boggle I agree with you about the opks. They're highly inaccurate and you have to have at least 4 hours between wees to collect a good sample. I drove myself insane with them last time & that's when I became doubtful about the whole cycle.

I also waited until i got the LH surge before DTD - which meant that we completely missed the window.

I think that I'll just take your advice, DTD every other day, perhaps when I 'think' I've got ewcm I'll test then to double check so to speak.

avocado you definitely dont have PCOS

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/03/2017 22:08

This sounds really bad but I can't be arsed to DTD tonight... but I don't wana risk missing it if I've ovulated later than I think I have. 😐

AmyC86 · 30/03/2017 22:45

Nothing worse boggle xx I totally get it.

Also, in answer to your earlier message. My consultant said that even a normally functioning female only has a 35% chance with each cycle!!

She then followed it up with humans don't reproduce that well 😂😂 tbh, I get it, because third be a lot more than 7billion people in the world

danigrace · 31/03/2017 01:52

Thanks Boggle. Really hope you and Satsooma are currently up duffed!! And fingers crossed tightly for everyone else!

We haven't opted to have any scans for various reasons so the first time we'll get a glimpse of baby is in the flesh! Due 25 July.

For those talking about the pcos diet / herb route I would totally recommend it if you feel up to it! Took a good 7/8 months of me being super strict with myself and changes only started in the last 3 months, in fact I had a month 'off' towards the end and regressed massively and the lovely ladies in this thread kicked my bum back onto it and I got my bfp just over a month later. A couple of days before getting a letter that basically said they thought I was too messed up for clomid and wanted me to come in to discuss going straight to ivf... So I feel I'm proof it can work (like all treatments/methods for anything it may not be for everyone) but I promised myself I'd stick with it for at least a year and am supremely glad I did!!

FluffyEwok · 31/03/2017 07:01

Hello all. Boggle i totally get the cant be arsed dtd sometimes you just think whats the point? I didnt really follow the diet but was doing more exercise and took metformin.
Ive got no obvious symptoms yet so bit worried. My boobs are tender on and off and ive got a tiny bump

YouBoggleMyMind · 31/03/2017 08:13

Is everything ok Dani? What was your reason for just scans, I'm not sure I could do it haha 😂

YouBoggleMyMind · 31/03/2017 08:13

No scans*

satsoooma · 31/03/2017 08:55

Sounds like you've got a good follicle there Amy!

Less than 24 hours to go before I can POAS. So far my day is like this:

  • breathe in: "this is so great, I am totally pregnant right now"
  • breathe out: "Aaaah! What was that twinge. OMG is my period starting? AAAAH!"
  • and repeat ...

Gonna be a fun day Hmm
