Thought I would create a fresh thread as the original had been going since Feb. This is for anyone TTC #1, a bit of moral support as we all attempt to embark on the scary journey that is parenthood! Join us if you are a mix of terrified and excited, don't really know what you're doing yet and hadn't heard of CM before you started reading Mumsnet!!

Welcome ima, power and lemon
Thanks suchajem and busynothings - I'll sure have a cocktail for each of you!
Hopefully I'll be about cd6-7 on my return and raring to go in FW
busynothings haha, I'm addicted to my bbt thermometer, it's even coming on holiday, I take bbt at least 10 times a day but only record the first one as soon as I wake upSmile

MishyBakes · 14/06/2016 21:25

Hello everyone, can I please join in? I'm very new here, and very much looking for moral support! A quick summary:

Age: 28
TTC #1
Cycle 2
Cd 3

I've been on various contraceptives for 10 years, came off at the end of April, had first pill free cycle over May. I've been using OPKs to monitor ovulation, and nothings happening yet. I'm hoping everything gets "back to normal" soon, but will keep trying in the menatime! I'm using Ovia to track my cycle and fertile days, and trying to stay as healthy and relaxed as possible! I hope everyone is doing well, and look forward to getting to know you all!

BusyNothings · 14/06/2016 22:04

Hi mishy! You sound in a very similar situation to a few of us on here. Are you getting sick of the be relaxed and enjoy it line? I'm going to scream if someone says it again. I am relaxed but that doesn't mean I have to ignore how my body works.

Sorry pent up frustration tonight lol.

MishyBakes · 14/06/2016 22:18

Hi busy! Some days I'm okay with the "relax" line, other days I'm a bit tetchy to say the least! Depends on where I am in my cycle/whether I've had a bad day at work. Also, in the last year, 5 people I know have conceived. I keep worrying I'm in the reproductive slow lane! I hope things are going okay for you, it's good to vent!

SuchaJem · 14/06/2016 22:53

Hello lemon Smile

Busy time slows down I swear when you are trying. Agree with you on knowledge is power. I would be more stressed without my opks I'm sure

Imavino bless your oh. Mine asks tentatively how are you... When it's coming up to test date. I'm like NOTHING! Period is coming!! Like a hormonal loon. Poor lad

SuchaJem · 14/06/2016 22:54

Hi mishy hope your cycle gets back on track soon

Lemon27 · 14/06/2016 22:59

Ovia scares the crap out of me I downloaded it but it wants so much info I deleted it again!

Don't have OPKs either gonna just get on with business without them and see what happens. I'll give it 6 months if I can and if nada at that point I'll reconsider.

Trying to stay chilled!

SuchaJem · 14/06/2016 23:05

Lemon absolutely, everyone is different so whatever approach suits you. If you know your fertile signs ie the right cm then you don't really need opks.

I personally feel reassured seeing a positive OPK and knowing my body is making luteinising hormone and thus hopefully releasing an egg. For me though temping is too much, and not something I'm considering at all.

BusyNothings · 15/06/2016 16:08

Ok figured out why dtd not going so well. Hubby having a bit of "performance anxiety" as I've learnt dadsnet call it. I'm not even telling him all the stuff I'm reading or doing, just keeping that in my little world. Anybody else experienced this? I feel awful and want to help pun not intended but no idea what to do.

SuchaJem · 15/06/2016 18:12

I can't offer specifically as DH doesn't have a problem with this (unless drunk Hmm) but in terms of relaxing and getting in the mood I find a sexy playlist of music helps, as does DTD at different times of day - eg Saturday lunchtime or as soon as I get in from work. Just varies things up a bit - plus if we wait until we go to bed there's more expectation somehow and also the pressure that if you don't do it there and then then it's another day you haven't done it.

Jjspoon · 15/06/2016 19:34

Woah this thread is getting busy! Today was the first day when I've been kind of 'right we need to dtd, it's that time'.. as soon as I got home from work! It was a bit awkward and forced for about 1 minute but got in to it quickly enough haha. I'm trying not to think about it too much though and will relax again now (though hopefully squeeze another one in friday/Saturday!).

Everyone seems to be using ovia, I'd never heard of it until on here a few weeks ago. I'm using clue and I think the only thing different is that ovia tracks temps and clue doesn't. Out of interest is everyone using it tracking temps? If not, why did you choose ovia?

MishyBakes · 15/06/2016 20:02

Thanks gem, am crossing fingers and going with the flow (metaphorically and literally).

Jjspoon I just googled apps to help with conception, and that was the best rated one that came up. I track bbt on it, as well as other things. It's helped me get used to my cycle again, after spending such a long time on hormone based contraceptives, and helped me identify when my fertile window should be as well. I'm sure all the apps do the same thing Smile

fuzzinmybrain · 15/06/2016 23:13

Jjspoon I use Clue to track my expected period date - it's always correct, at most +/- 1 day off with AF prediction date, whereas Ovia/Glow/Fertility Friend seem to change the date according to the data I feed in, making it rarely correct. I've been using OPKs for the past two months and found that relying on Ovia to track my fertile window was probably silly, as my peak fertility has been almost a whole week before when Ovia says it is!!!

I use Ovia for the little articles, as well as the daily insights. I use FF for the graph that helps me visualise my BBT and ovulation spikes/dips. And Glow... I'm still unsure about.

SuchaJem · 16/06/2016 08:40

Hello how's everyone doing? Anyone testing?

I'm 13 DPO and fairly sure it is soon to be turning into day 1 of cycle 7 HmmSad

BusyNothings · 16/06/2016 10:44

Still no sign of anything for me. Got all the pms symptoms but no show yet boo I really wish it'd get a move on so can start c1 properly

CinnamonTwist · 16/06/2016 12:20

I'm just about to start the tww, and I'm already feeling impatient! Not holding out much hope for this month though as we had a bit of a worry just before starting this FW whether we could definitely afford a baby at the moment (due to house move costs), then when I went over our finances and confirmed we could we went back to plan A (Hmm) so only managed to DTD twice during my FW so far, it ends tomorrow. Mind you Ovia keeps moving when my FW is! I'm tempted to try temping or ov sticks, but I know I'll get obsessed..!

OP posts:
BusyNothings · 16/06/2016 13:04

cinammon if you aren't sure when you ovulate then opks may be your best bet? Temping on,y shows after the fact so it would take at least a month to get an idea. But opks show before during and after highest peak - maybe limit yourself to only using them during your fw if worried about getting too much?

But then again if you know you'll take it too far maybe just try and ignore it and see what happens? If in a few months no dice then start? Only you know how well you will cope with things Smile like the fact I know I'll become overly stressed if I don't do opks because I neeeeeeeeeeeed to know what going on lol (something I need to work on Blush)

Imavinoops · 16/06/2016 13:18

cinnamon I have been avoiding opks and bbt for exactly the same reason, thinking about going for it next month though if this month doesn't work, although I think I have a pretty good idea of ovulation days so far but it would be nice to have a bit of confirmation :)

CinnamonTwist · 16/06/2016 14:12

Busy I know I will become exactly like that if I do use them though and DH already thinks I overanalyse everything too much Blush so it wouldn't help my 'being relaxed about it' case!

OP posts:
BusyNothings · 16/06/2016 16:17

Have you thought about tracking mucus instead? It's not something you actively have to test just be a bit more aware of?

CinnamonTwist · 16/06/2016 17:40

Yes I have been tracking that on Ovia, I think that's why it changed my FW, as I seem to get one thing in the morning and another in the evening so I think I've just confused the hell out of it! I might try ov sticks next month...

Pyjamas81 · 16/06/2016 19:02

It's too late for me on the obsession front ConfusedBut, I'm like this with every new thing I do - I have to know every single detail and research the crap out of whatever current obsession it is!

In third day of AF and looks like it'll be the last day - am excited!

Jjspoon · 16/06/2016 19:13

pyjamas I'm the same haha. Literally as soon as we decided to ttc I didn't sleep for about a week up all night long researching and googling ttc info, fertility tracking, pregnancy etc! Very ocd but it seems it's not something you can plan that well and everyone is so different especially after coming off hormonal contraception!

busy I'm only tracking cm at the moment no temping or opks but I'm even though I'm getting it I'm not sure it proves I'm ovulating as I got it sometimes when I was on the pill anyway? Just didn't realise what it is meant to mean! Did anyone else get it when on the pill?

Jjspoon · 16/06/2016 19:18

cinnamon BTW were in a similar position and about to move in a few weeks and going to be very tight on money... tbh I don't think we can afford to have a baby if we sat down and worked it out. Especially on my crappy statuatory maternity pay at work but that's something we will come to when it happens and I'm sure we will find a way. Having a baby is something we've wanted for years now so we decided to just go for it and cross those bridges when we get to them. I think if you think about it too much then we would never be ready!

CinnamonTwist · 16/06/2016 19:36

pyjamas and jjspoon you both sound like me!! I get super obsessed when doing anything new, have to know all about it; How and why etc etc etc and then I have to try and be perfect at it... Drives DH absolutely potty Blush but I can't help it!
And jjspoon exactly the same with the house too; it's because we've moved house and had to spend more money than expected on it that I was worried we can't afford it, but we've figured out a saving plan so we can... No holidays or meals out or buying clothes for us, it all has to go towards baby... Totally worth it Wink
