Positive opk after a miscarriage

1002 replies

jinglebellmel · 19/05/2016 20:28

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Hello ladies,

Firstly I just want to say how sorry I am about your losses :(

I'm glad I've stumbled across this post as I feel like it's answering the questions that I need most right now! I had a mmc at around 8 weeks and I'm 27 days post medical management. I ovulated around day 14/15 and now waiting for AF to arrive. I have noticed we are all in similar situations with wanting to know where we are at with our cycles etc.

If you wouldn't mind, for those of you who did get a positive OV, how many days after did AF arrive? Just wondering when mine will show?

Thanks, and again I'm really sorry we are all here posting.

Allium40 · 15/06/2016 11:45

Hi Bee,

Sorry for your loss too. Sad times, I hope things are getting easier :-(

I don't think I ov'd on that first cycle but did get a lh surge on 14th and 21st May then AF arrive on 31st May so I guess either 10dpo or 17dpo.

Cycle and hormones were all over the place. Hope they have calmed down a bit now.

Good luck for this cycle, are you ttc straight away like us?

Bee1234 · 15/06/2016 12:15

Hi Allium,

Thank you, things have gotten easier and time seems to help. I hope this is the case for you too.

I didn't try this cycle as wanted AF to arrive first, and as my LH surge was exactly 2 weeks after the procedure I thought it was best to wait. Obviously I don't know that I definitely ov'd I'm only going by the OPK and CM.

We will ttc this time round once my AF turns up. So now, like everyone else, it's just a waiting game! Hopefully AF will arrive in the next few days.. I'm 11 dpo today.

Thank you for your reply :) and yes hopefully things have calmed down a bit for u.

thatsnotmybear · 15/06/2016 16:30

Hi Bee, I'm sorry you find yourself here :-(

I have no idea whether I ovulated as my opk's were too unreliable to tell (and I went slightly POAS crazy). However I did get AF 27 days after the surgical management and that's my usual cycle length. How long is your cycle length usually?

Bee1234 · 15/06/2016 18:26

Hello thatsnotmybear,

my cycle length is usually around 30 days so I guess I should expect mine in the next few days ( never thought I'd be hoping for it to come ) I'l be very happy if my body has bounced back this quickly!

I saw you were contemplating acupuncture? Did you ever do a session? My hormones have been pretty wild too. Especially yday but maybe that's a good sign AF is on its way. No other symptoms though.

jinglebellmel · 15/06/2016 18:47

Good news about the ov Allium, you must be pleased :)

Bear, did your period progress in the end? I guess it would make sense for it to be light after a d&c like you said.

Be, sorry for your loss. I believe I ovd around cd 12 in my first cycle, and Af arrived 14 days later, so all timings were as usual for me.

I'm still having mild cramps every day and a little spotting. It's like ewcm with a bit of blood mixed in (sorry for the details) very odd. I've had a 'high fertility'day on the clear blue monitor and opk getting darker. Can't see that I'm going to ov if spotting though?!

OP posts:
Allium40 · 15/06/2016 18:59

Hi Mel, I had a lh surge when I was still not spotting but don't think I actually ov'd. Either then or when I had the second surge a week later. Fingers crossed the spotting stops asap x

Allium40 · 15/06/2016 20:08

Sorry, I meant to write:

I had a lh surge when I was still spotting...

thatsnotmybear · 15/06/2016 21:15

Bee if you know you definitely ovulated isn't that a good sign that AF should follow 2 or so weeks later? If it helps I didn't really get any of the usual signs that AF was on it's way before it arrived.

I haven't had the acupuncture yet. I was feeling quite overwhelmed emotionally but have been feeling on a more even keel over the past week. I think my hormones settling down has helped. I think I'll go for the acupuncture if my cycles don't settle down after this month.

Mel AF was just really light and short lived. I'm on CD4 now and am just getting occasional spotting. I don't know that spotting will stop you ovulating by the way. It sounds like your ovaries are still doing their bit even if there's still some old stuff to clear out of your uterus?

Bee1234 · 15/06/2016 21:57

Thanks Mel for the info

and yes Bear I probably should just trust it will come due to positive OPK but then I've read so much stuff about false testing etc it's just got me paranoid. Anyway time will tell. No signs for u is reassuring thank u. Glad to hear that things have settled for u.

thatsnotmybear · 15/06/2016 22:58

The waiting is horrible though, I can sympathise. It took nearly 4 weeks for HPT's to turn negative for me, then I got AF and a negative test around the same time.

jinglebellmel · 16/06/2016 14:00

Thanks bear and Allium. Opk is quite dark today (although I've not had peak fertility on the clear blue thingy yet), I'd say positive and its cd 10 so right on schedule, but still having light spotting and cramps every now and then. I guess it's either hormone imbalance and I won't ov, or just my body trying to get this clot out, in which case I might ov. Although I am concerned that if it continues after ov that would make implantation pretty difficult. Also got the bloody cyst on my ovary since the miscarriage so maybe that is a factor too. No wonder my poor body has gone a bit crazy!

Morning all,

Do I remember one of you saying you took co-enzyme q10/ubiquinol? Could I ask how long you've been taking it and whether it's safe to start in the 2ww?

Bee1234 · 17/06/2016 16:11

Hi Allium, I don't have any advice on that unfortunately sorry.. I would like to wish you luck on your tww though :)

AF arrived for me today ( yay ) so I can officially count this as my first cycle.

thatsnotmybear · 17/06/2016 22:37

Not me Allium, sorry. I'm just taking multivitamins with folic acid, and omega 3. What does co-enzyme q10 help with?

Great news Bee! Smile

jinglebellmel · 17/06/2016 22:56

That's good Bee :)

No not me Allium. Fingers crossed for you during the wait.

OP posts:
Allium40 · 18/06/2016 07:40

Ubiquinol (the purest form of q10) boosts sperm and egg quality, especially in older women. I feel that it could benefit me but read it takes 3 months to generate new eggs. I guess I should get some!

Bee1234 · 18/06/2016 10:12

Thank you ladies :)

Sounds very useful allium, I had a little Google! Anything that can boost chances is worth taking i guess!

Have a good weekend everyone!

jinglebellmel · 18/06/2016 13:04

Sounds interesting Allium, def worth a try. When is your 2ww up?

Finally got my smiley face peak fertility today, also did an early response pregnancy test which was negative at last! So quite positive today. Still having slight spotting though so trying not to get too positive as I guess there's a good chance I won't ov

OP posts:
Allium40 · 18/06/2016 13:48

Good news you got a negative Mel, sounds like your cycle is getting back to normal.

I think I ov'd Tues but fertility friend has me ov'ing later. Temp is rising but no sore boobs yet.

RIP Jo Cox, thinking a lot about her poor family

jinglebellmel · 18/06/2016 14:34

Yes, horrible news :(

Temp rising is a good sign though, fingers crossed for you. I've done such a bad job with my temps I don't think I'll be able to tell anything from them unfortunately!

OP posts:
Allium40 · 18/06/2016 14:54

Thank you. Mine started off pretty chaotic as I wasn't waiting for the beep but first fortnight was under 36.5 and since ov over 36.5-37. Science is amazing! I have never tried this before. I've even noticed sleeping deeper and dreaming more. Can't believe I've been oblivious to this all these years!

jinglebellmel · 18/06/2016 17:08

It is amazing isn't it, fascinates me! I'm feeling so stupid, we've been away for 5 nights, and used a hot tub every day - I had no idea this killed sperm and I think we've ruined our chances now. So disappointed and can't believe I didn't know!

OP posts:
thatsnotmybear · 19/06/2016 10:12

I wouldn't worry too much Mel, I'm sure hot tubs are fine in moderation and probably only affect sperm production over time?

I'm also using the Clearblue fertility monitor and got a high this morning. I'm only on CD8 which seems a bit early for a high, but I spotted before I got AF so might be further along in my cycle that I thought. Did you get many highs before you got a peak?
