Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Thanks bear, I hope so.

I had 4 days of high before I got a peak, was beginning to think it wasn't coming!

Hi Mel, I don't think a hot tub can be any different to a bath. My OH had a bath the other night and I only realised afterwards. Not sure how much it affects sperm, if at all.

jinglebellmel · 19/06/2016 20:47

Thanks Allium, I've been googling which is all doom and gloom (don't do it!) I guess it's done now anyway, I just can't believe I didn't consider it at the time.

Hope everyone is getting on okay x

Last year when we were ttc, my OH was having a few (hot) baths every day (due to his illness). He was also on very strong medication AND we were dtd AFTER ovulation. Really kicking myself now!! Hey ho!

Allium40 · 19/06/2016 21:13

(I only found out about hot baths last week too btw)! But if you think years ago people only ever had baths and they were conceiving left, right and centre! I imagine if a man has a healthy sperm count, it won't affect it too much - still millions!

Bee1234 · 20/06/2016 18:49

Great to hear about your temp staying up Allium, it's a positive sign! I must invest in a basal body temp ASAP!

Mel I wouldn't worry too much, im sure it won't have significant impact, and is probably advised against more as a precaution and not an absolute no no. Try not to beat yourself up about it! When my sister fell pregnant her OH was cycling to work every day and they say this effects sperm in the same way but they had no problems! And like one of the others said, in the old days everyone was probably taking hot baths!

jinglebellmel · 20/06/2016 19:19

Thanks both :) dh reckons he has super sperm and will be fine! We'll see!

I think I ovd yesterday, but no major temp rise yet, hoping to get something a bit higher tomorrow. Would be such a relief if I could confirm everything was still working as it should.

Haha, super sperm - sounds familiar!!

thatsnotmybear · 21/06/2016 13:56

Day 3 of Highs on the Clearblue monitor Mel, I think my readings are going much the same way as yours! Let's hope I get a Peak soon too.

My DH cycles to work & home again at least 3 times a week and actually credits this for helping produce the super sperm which got us pregnant so quickly...

Good luck with your 2ww's everyone.

jinglebellmel · 21/06/2016 18:32

Haha seems like they all have super sperm!

I'm sure you will in the next couple of days Bear, if I'd have seen the stupid flashy face one more time I think I'd have gone mad!

So I've had cramps since yesterday evening which was 6dpo. Too soon for AF but anything is possible post-MC I guess.

I did get implantation cramps last time I was pregnant. They continued all the way through pregnancy so I think it was initially implantation then the uterus growing.

I've read that implantation can take up to 3 days then your body starts to produce hcg which shows up in your urine 3 days later.

However, I have had implantation cramps before and not been pg.

But thought I'd keep you updated.

How many dpo are you Mel? What cd are you on Bear? Anyone else?

Bee1234 · 21/06/2016 21:53

I think I'm a couple weeks behind all of you ladies but will start with OPKs on cd8 ( seems early but the sperm meets egg plan suggests this ) and im currently on cd5!

It's really nice being able to follow all your journeys!

Hoping it is implantation cramping Allium! I remember having cramps about 6 or 7 days after ov and it never really eased off!

Allium40 · 22/06/2016 06:25

Yes I followed SMEP Bee. I started testing even earlier because I used to have a cycle of 26 days and last time I conceived on cd 11. My cycle seems a bit longer now though.

Nearly ov for you then! Good luck! Smile

Bee1234 · 22/06/2016 10:16

Wow really! Ok that's good to know thank you..

yes not too long now, eek thanks 😊

thatsnotmybear · 22/06/2016 14:43

Bee I'm only CD11 today so not too far ahead of you!

No Peak on the monitor yet, but we DTD on CD11 before and got pregnant with our DS (ironically, after practically a year of trying, we conceived the month we only DTD once!) With this most recent pregnancy it was CD12, CD13 & CD14 and I only got a positive OPK on CD14, so have learnt not to rely entirely on the monitor or OPK's.

I really hope it is implantation cramps for you Allium.

jinglebellmel · 22/06/2016 19:02

Hope it's implantation Allium!

I'm cd 17 and have been doing smep too, found it exhausting! I think I ovd on day 14 or 15 which is a bit later than usual, still waiting for another day of temps for fertility friend to detect ovulation though. Feeling as though chances are slim after the hit tubbing incident, but fingers crossed. I certainly think we deserve it after all the sex we've had this month!

Bear, are you still on flashy faces? Hopefully you'll get a peak soon. The reviews seemed to say a lot of people had lots of highs first.

Bee not too long till ov for you hopefully then, good luck.

jinglebellmel · 22/06/2016 19:02

Hot tubbing even...

Bee1234 · 22/06/2016 19:09

Wow bear that's amazing about conceiving after dtd only once! Just goes to show how timing is everything ( and super sperm of course lol )

I agree with not being able to entirely trust OPKS, I suppose they are a guideline rather than a given!

Bee1234 · 22/06/2016 19:19

Sorry Mel didn't see ur post before I sent mine!

Im not surprised you're feeling exhausted!!

Ov for me is usually cd14 ish so I've got a week to wait but I'm going to start testing Friday!

Fingers crossed for you and yes you definitely deserve it after all that loving!

Allium40 · 23/06/2016 15:11

Very exhausting! Especially by bonk number 3 and then number 4 just-in-case-bonk! No wonder we sleep so well in the TWW!

Mel, I remembered this morning, my friend actually conceived in the jacuzzi! And that was after trying unsuccessfully for a year! So, don't give up hope!

jinglebellmel · 23/06/2016 19:03

Thanks Allium, he's always having baths so hopefully they've become desensitised to heat!

I know, I'm not sure how many months I could keep it up, I almost couldn't be bothered with number 4 but I'd better struggle on and do it properly!

thatsnotmybear · 25/06/2016 10:48

Hi everyone, how are you all getting on?

CD14 here and still no Peak. Just did a separate OPK in case monitor was playing up but that was also negative. Wondering if my cycles may be longer post-MMC and ov may happen later? Either that or I'm not ovulating Sad

Allium40 · 25/06/2016 11:39

Hi Bear, are you getting any kind of line at all? I would test twice a day as surges normally happen in the afternoon.

Good luck!

Bee1234 · 25/06/2016 11:40

Hi Bear,

Don't lose faith yet! Perhaps your peak is coming tomorrow or the next day! I don't use a monitor so I'm unsure how they work but does ur OPK show a line? If so is it at least quite dark? I find that my days leading up to ov they get noticeably darker each day.. It at least reassures me that the surge is coming!

thatsnotmybear · 25/06/2016 11:53

Thank you both, I needed some reassurance! There is a line on the OPK, it's too faint to be considered positive, but hopefully it means things are going in the right direction. That's interesting about surges happening in the afternoon; I will try testing later today to see if gets any darker. Thanks, am feeling a bit better now!
