Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Blossom, that's how mine looks the day before ov (and is why I like the cheapies as I know it's about to happen and can start dtd). I think ttc after a miscarriage is a total passion killer altogether to be honest, it seems to be for us any way!

I think I'm 2dpo today, feeling okay at the moment, dont feel positive about this month but not stressed either (yet!)

Mcbaby, I'm so sorry :( seeing a gynaecologist might be helpful for you though, are they going to rescan you? I'm surprised they're not happy with that though, they told me they class anything under 5 as zero, and you're really close to that. Hopefully you'll get a chance to talk it all through with someone anyway though X

Jinglebelmel I did way but they are now nearly normal but they said it was the difference between the two was not good enough four days apart.

I will be good to speak to someone who specialises in it anyway even if they confirm its all normal.

My appointment is tomorrow afternoon.

Hi ladies
McBaby - after my MC it was a bit strange too. After the medical management I bled or had discharge for about 3 weeks. I tested positive on pg tests and OPK tests for 4 weeks and then I bled again just as I was about to go for a scan. The hospital wasn't really sure what happened but because the blood was about 4.5 weeks after my MC, they said it must be a period - altho they did say they were not sure.

rider1975 · 10/08/2016 17:14

Thanks Al and Blossom for your comments. Period stopped altogether on Monday so pretty normal duration for me - I've had shorter periods since last November from memory but still got pg in March. It's quiet here - tiny village middle of nowhere n constant rain - so just kicking back. I'm intersted in reflexology and acu - maybe check that out in Sept after main holiday. Everyone seems very into it.
You ladies are so dedicated and great with takings temps! I can't see me getting up in the night to do this. I do have 3 OPK sticks for Sat thru Mon tho. My bf booked me in to see his Norwegian dr - apparently they take everyone seriously here even if I'm 40+. Just going to talk through all the physical and psychological symptoms I've had. £20 for 1 hour is a bargain !
Hope everyone is going well xx

thatsnotmybear · 10/08/2016 17:47

Rider I had a bleed 4 weeks after my mc and it was definitely not AF because that arrived 2 weeks later. Mel explained things to me at the time - it was most likely caused by a drop in hormones (progesterone?) A bit like the withdrawal bleed that you have on your pill-free week when you're taking the pill.

I just starting temping this cycle and am getting a bit obsessed with it (it's a cheaper habit than POAS)! It's reassured me that I did ov this cycle at least. I got a big temp dip below the cover line at 5dpo which of course Google tells me could be something or nothing! Grin

jinglebellmel · 10/08/2016 17:49

Wow Rider £20 is a bargain, well worth it! hope you're managing some relaxation while you're away. I usually have pretty short periods to, 2-3 days and it's never seemed to cause a problem with getting pregnant.

Mcbaby, good that it's so soon and you'll get to speak with someone who knows what they're talking about. Hopefully you'll have some closure (at least to the physical part) soon.

The weird thing is I am sure I ovulated this month. And ff thought so to so I have really no idea. Hopefully get some answers soon and then start ttc again! (But struggling with the thought this could all happen again).

Allium40 · 10/08/2016 19:08

McBaby, did you say this was your third pg? Everything is so crazy in those first few months after MC. I was so up and down, couldn't stop crying. I'm feeling slightly more level-headed now.

Rider - great about the Norwegian doc. Let us know what s/he says.

Bear - how many dpo are you now? Are you consistent with temping? I'm not, especially as it's school hols and I'm sometimes awake early and sometimes late. I have noticed a def bbt rise so that's something at least.

jinglebellmel · 10/08/2016 20:11

Mcbaby, I had a scan when my hcg was about 20 and the radiographer thought that I'd ovd. Apparently it's progesterone that stops you ovulating while pregnant not hcg, so it is possible.

OP posts:
McBaby · 10/08/2016 20:28

Jinglebelmel that makes sense as my base hgc is 2 normally! So I must ovulate with come hgc normally.

Allium yes it's my 3rd pregnancy but this was my 1st miscarrige.

My hormones are always nuts which is why I can't take any hormonal contraception so it kind of makes sense to me that my body doesn't do what is expected of it with the hormones.

jinglebellmel · 11/08/2016 12:29

Hope it goes okay this afternoon mcbaby.

Bear I missed your post sorry, let's hope the temp dip is something to get excited about!

Rider, blossom, allium - hope you're all getting on okay. Who's in the two week wait now?

OP posts:
Allium40 · 11/08/2016 12:51

Yes I'm in the 2WW. Not sure which day but I think I ov'd Fri/Sat which would have me at around 5dpo. What about you Mel?

Blossom, any joy with the opks today?

3 dpo today allium. Already getting impatient.

Sounds like it should be soon blossom, and dtd before is best anyway so hopefully you'll be fine :) I'd like to wait until 21st which is the day before af is due, but realistically i'll probably cracking much earlier, maybe around 19th

OP posts:
Allium40 · 11/08/2016 14:57

Apparently surges are more common in the pm so it sounds like it's imminent and you're doing enough :-)

As for testing, I normally get a bbt drop so I know AF is coming. Last month I didn't even get close to testing. The previous month I did and it was gutting to get a negative. So we'll see. AF is due on Sat 20th I think.

thatsnotmybear · 11/08/2016 15:17

I'm 7dpo. Am on holiday and deliberately didn't pack any HPT's, not even IC's, so I can't drive myself nuts testing early, or at all. Also packed sanitary towels as didn't want to be overly optimistic. I don't have any symptoms so am expecting temp to drop within the next days (whilst being wildly hopeful that it won't).

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

McBaby · 11/08/2016 15:21

Just had scan there is a small piece of retained tissue not picked up in the scan 4 weeks ago. I have to have another scan next month and hopefully it will have gone with my next period.

rider1975 · 11/08/2016 15:26

Not fantastic McBaby but at least you know now

rider1975 · 11/08/2016 15:27

Gl ladies in the 2ww! I'm just post period n not stressing even if no ovulation this month. I have decided to be bothered next month Smile

McBaby · 11/08/2016 15:29

Im just happy I wasn't imagining the whole thing.

On a positive note my pcos has totally disappeared :) no evidence of it on the scan at all!

Allium40 · 11/08/2016 15:47

That's fab McBaby - every cloud!

I'm not familiar with these blossom but on my OPK kit the line has to be as dark as the tester line.

Blossom that looks pretty good to me, I've has months when that's a dark as it got for me, and I know I ov'd (got pregnant on one of them!)

Great idea to remove temptation bear!

Sorry mcbaby, but good news about the pcos. My retained clot didn't stop me Oving, so hopefully you'll be the same. Did they say if it's okay to carry on ttc?
