Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Unfortunately I have it all the time, at least once a month. It really sucks and there is no cure!

rider1975 · 05/08/2016 17:14

Hi girls - this may be a very silly question but it seems the right thread for it : if I have my period, does that mean for sure that I ovulated ?

Allium40 · 05/08/2016 17:33

Yes I am getting the sexy dreams too! I got the opk + today (cd13) and feel it's imminent as am feeling tender around my ovaries and lower back.

We dtd this morning and will dtd again tomorrow morning.

We're pretty worn out already as dtd Sat, Tues, Weds and today. OH couldn't produce the goods last night which is a first. And my old friend cystitis is making a return.

Rider, I think you can get your period even if you don't ov. I wondered that myself as you need ov to get progesterone which causes the lining to shed when levels drop. But pretty sure I read that you still get a period without ov. And I know people who do.

thatsnotmybear · 05/08/2016 17:53

Glad to hear you got your positive opk Allium, it seems (CD)13 is the lucky number!

I think there's a lot of pressure on our DP's to come up with the goods. It's definitely affected DH's performance before. I would say of the 4 times we DTD, only 2 of those we both really enjoyed and the other 2 were a bit more business-like!

Rider I've had 2 AF's since the mc and I don't believe I ov'd before either of them. It's not unusual after a mc but it should be temporary. I've tried to accept that it was my body's way of letting me know it wasn't ready to support a pg yet, but it is frustrating.

thatsnotmybear · 05/08/2016 18:12

Oh ffs another pg announcement on Facebook. Time for some wine I think!

rider1975 · 05/08/2016 18:13

Got it - who knew !! - thanks for your advice with this. I'll keep on with OPKs - at least know what's going on Grin

rider1975 · 05/08/2016 18:13

Awwww notmybear - totally feel for you n know that pain Sad

jinglebellmel · 05/08/2016 22:21

Oh bear, it's rubbish isn't it?! ive never had so many friends due in the same month before, just happens to be the one I should have been due in too!

McBaby · 06/08/2016 07:37

I hate all the pregnant people my best friend just had her due date moved to two days after then mine would have been!

My frer is looking darker this morning but I also had brown spotting last night and this morning so not too hopeful.

thatsnotmybear · 06/08/2016 08:58

I'm normally a nice person who is pleased for others, honestly! I'm expecting to see baby announcements, but it's the scan pic posts that seem to catch me unawares.

jinglebellmel · 06/08/2016 09:19

I think it's totally normal bear. I'm very happy for my friends but it is a constant reminder of where I should be with my pregnancy, and hard to accept why I was the one it didn't work out for. I've never put a scan photo on Facebook, and after this I feel sure that I never would!

Mcbaby, horrible isn't it? Feels almost as though you're being left behind. I'm hopeful you'll have some news to cheer you up Monday though :) brown spotting is okay I think as its old blood? I know it must be impossible to be positive though X

I've got my positive opk today, so expecting ov today or tomorrow (hoping tomorrow so I can dtd more before hand! How about everyone else?

Also for anyone testing on ICs I no longer believe in them! Here is a comparison of my frer and an ic from today!

Yay to positive okp jinglebelmel get dtd.

Allium40 · 06/08/2016 09:49

So strange McBaby, fingers crossed.

Glad you got your + Mel.

I got my + yesterday and had the ov pains yesterday evening so I think I ov'd then. My ov seems pretty quick after the surge. I wonder what the quickest timeframe is.

Had a slight bbt rise this morning but only up to the cover line but tookmy temp much later than usual.

Didn't dtd on thurs but we did manage weds evening, fri am and this morning although I think the egg has been and gone.

jinglebellmel · 06/08/2016 11:17

Allium, accord to ff I ovd on the day on my pos opk last cycle, seemed strange to me so not sure if it was right.

Mcbaby I don't think th cheapies are as sensitive as they say they are. Mine were supposed to be 10 iui but after mc they went negative and I was still getting positives on other less sensitive tests, my blood hcg then came back at 25 so I reckon they are around that.

Faint test and bleeding makes me think it was left over hormones and my period. Never trusting ICs again!

Good luck to everyone else.

thatsnotmybear · 07/08/2016 08:13

Oh I'm sorry Mcbaby. Are you still going to get the blood work done so you know for certain?

Allium40 · 07/08/2016 08:54

Sorry to hear that McBaby x

jinglebellmel · 07/08/2016 10:03

Sorry mcbaby, hope you're alright

Hi Blossom,

I know what you mean about the sperm. Maybe see how you get on with SMEP this month and if no joy, maybe start dtd a bit later next month. You could even start dtd on cd15.

I still don't have my post-ov bbt rise and have ewcm today so am wondering if I'm still fertile. Deffo all later than last month! Last month ov was day 11/12 and this month 13/14/15. My first proper cycle after MC was day 15 too.

Let's see what tomorrow brings!

thatsnotmybear · 07/08/2016 16:29

Allium I read that post-ov temp rise can take a few days to register and isn't always observed the morning after ov, but a day or two later.

Blossom I read in SMEP that adjustments to the plan are recommended for men with a low sperm count and they should DTD every other day:

“Adjustments to the plan: Start on your usual day with every other day baby dancing and take your OPKs. I would prefer if you took your OPK twice a day rather than once, so we can really nail that surge. Buy the cheap ones online. Wondfos are $10 for 25. You should see that second line appear as the surge begins. In this case, it is okay that the line is still too light. If you see that, go ahead and do a baby dance that night IF you didn’t the night before and IF your cervical mucus is excellent. Otherwise, wait.

When the test line gets darker, you know your surge has begun. If you did not baby dance the night before, do it that night. If you did it the night before, wait a night and do it again in the morning or the next night.”

Apologies for the advertising bit - it did that automatically when I cut & pasted from the eBook!

jinglebellmel · 07/08/2016 16:42

Blossom, if you have a potential sperm issue then there is quite a lot of research which suggests a high dose of vit c for dh can improve sperm quite a bit, will see if I can find a link.

I'm day 13, another positive opk so hoping I'll ov today.
