Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

I just did an hcp test and was negative so hopefully this means opk are reliable?! What do you think?

jinglebellmel · 02/08/2016 19:37

Sounds like it's picking up lh rather than pregnancy hormones, which is promising. A few of us did have lots of random positives with opks the first cycle though so I think it can be hormones out of whack. No reason why it couldn't be ov for you though, fingers crossed.

8dpo and feeling so stressed about the next few days. I know there is nothing I can do to change the outcome and relaxing is the only thing which will help!! I need to set a test day and stick to it I have had negative tests for the past few days the first ones since the miscarrige.

It is also four weeks exactly since i started bleeding so I feel like af should be appearing soon!

lizziedoll I still get nearly positive okps and have done for the last 2.5 weeks!

Lizziedoll · 02/08/2016 19:51

Good to know! I tend to ovulate late so I guess they're not reliable after a mc. Might give up on them until after AF returns!

Finally!!!

Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi ladies - I'm ready to come back and try again! Life has moved on for sure and you prob don't remember me Smile. I'm 41 and two MCs behind me. How is everyone doing ? Nice to be back

McBaby · 03/08/2016 12:36

Very tentatively 9dpo and four very faint tests this morning (as I was worried I had a dodgy test or 3!).

I have had completely negative tests no faint line even when left for hours except for last Thursday! So feeling a bit hopeful! Fingers crossed for a stronger line tomorrow!

Allium40 · 03/08/2016 14:54

Hi Rider, welcome back! Of course we remember you! How are you feeling?Glad you are feeling a bit better. It does take time.

McBaby, do you think this might be a new pg? Fingers crossed!

jinglebellmel · 03/08/2016 15:25

Hi Rider, how are you doing? Hopefully you won't be trying for long :)

Wow amazing mcbaby! When did your tests go negative? Fingers crossed its a new one and darker for you tomorrow x

First negative was last Wednesday then positive last Thursday but negative fri-tues. faint positive this morning. So hoping it's something new rather than becoming positive after 5 days of negatives. Just hoping it gets darker over next few days.

I also had a big dip in temp yesterday and it's back up again, had lots of cramping sat-mon. So possible implantation?

So much symptom spotting I think!!

jinglebellmel · 03/08/2016 19:29

Yeah you wouldn't think that you'd get 5 days of negatives followed by a positive unless it was something new? Fingers crossed anyway, keep us informed!

Hi Bellmel and Allium - how are you getting on? - and everyone else,
Firstly, very happy for those who are having positive readings.
I'm probably two cycles in after the MC. I tried the OPK this month but couldn't get a positive so in the end I abandoned when the sticks ran out. I actually haven't this month's period so am wondering what is going on. Seriously, I've been like clockwork forever.
After this MC, I read a book on fertility and took some recommended supplements and which had various articles to support them - Maca (big superfood), co-enzyme 10 and Vitex tincture. I think something in that potion hasn't helped - I think I'll drop everything for now ... I guess it was wishful thinking..

Lizziedoll · 03/08/2016 20:50

Good evening everyone, I'm 12 days post miscarriage and I've been dtd for the 5 days (since bleeding stopped). Pregnancy tests are already negative and I've had two near positive ovu tests yesterday and today. Today I'm having uterus "gargling", I had this last time I conceived. Any chance I could've already conceived?!?!

jinglebellmel · 03/08/2016 21:00

Hi Rider, getting on okay(ish) seem to be ovulating but I'm having lots of strange spotting and I'm not pregant yet, so could be better! Maybe a good idea to drop some/all of it then and see if you can back to normal. Do you know if you ov'd last cycle?

lizziedoll, seems quite soon to be having any symptoms, but who knows! Fingers crossed for you.

Yes I'm probably just being silly!!

rider1975 · 03/08/2016 21:12

Hi Bellmel, Lizziedoll,
I haven't read all the thread. How many months have you had a positive for ov? I have no clue what happened first cycle - it was all kind of unexpected after the MC - even the clinic were unsure what was MC and was was period. Yes - I've posted a few threads here at MN. Vitex seems to really work for some people.
Lizzie - I had positive OPKs for some weeks after my MC. I read that it picks up on a pg hormone which might be still in your system. Or, you could have ovulated. Everyone is different and even my two MCs were different in terms of recovery. Fingers x'd for you.

Allium40 · 03/08/2016 21:21

What's gargling Lizzie?

Rider, how long was your cycle and what day are you on now? It could well be the supplements. Vitex is for regulating cycles isn't it and increasing progesterone? So it could quite easily lengthen your cycle. Could that be a good thing?

Lizziedoll · 03/08/2016 21:30

allium my uterus is making weird rumbling noises which is what happened the month I got pregnant. Also my breasts are starting to feel a bit sore again, it all seems very soon so maybe I'm just imagining it all. My libido is through the roof which was also one of my first pg symptoms but it seems very early to have conceived as I only mc 12 days ago... Im probably just crazy

Allium40 · 03/08/2016 21:42

Lucky you having high libido!

It could also be ov symptoms but you never know!

It is possible to conceive straight after MC as we're hoping McBaby is about to prove!

rider1975 · 03/08/2016 22:01

Hey Allium - I'm a 28 day girl so I'm just 2 days late. I've had major anxiety, horrible nightmares during the time that should be PMT and other weird stuff going on - and really life is just fine. I I can recognise hormones going apeshit and this is exactly it. Lots of nausea/diarrhoea too. Just wrong.

rider1975 · 03/08/2016 22:02

Yes you are right - vitex promotes progesterone

Lizziedoll · 03/08/2016 22:06

mcbaby how soon after day 1 of mc do you think you conceived? And please keep us posted, you give me hope Wink

thatsnotmybear · 03/08/2016 22:20

Lizzie I thought for a moment that 'gargling' was some kind of uterine irrigation that you were having done!! Grin

Hi Rider, I think I'd just joined the thread when you last posted. The positive opk that I got today is my first one since my mc in May. This is my 2nd cycle and I don't think I ov'd after the mc, or last cycle either.

Mel I asked my acu'ist about spotting (which goes on until CD8 for me) and she said that ideally my body could be more efficient at expelling everything during AF, but it doesn't indicate a problem with fertility.
