Positive opk after a miscarriage

jinglebellmel · 19/05/2016 20:28

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Struggling to concentrate on anything else!! I just want to switch off from it and be surprised again one day!

jinglebellmel · 31/07/2016 21:59

Sorry to hear that Bear :( it's so tough isn't it?? I feel like I can't be too honest with the few friends that know. They are sympathetic and have been great, but at the end of the day no one wants to spend all their time talking about sad things, the obsessiveness makes me no fun to be around.

I'm also making out that we'll try again soon once we're ready, when in reality we've been desperately trying for a couple of months already, but the added pressure of them knowing would be too much.

Totally agree Blossom, wish I could just switch my brain off until I get that positive test.

Sorry you're all feeling as shitty as me, but on the bright side at least it seems like we're all normal!

I'm trying this positive realisation/hypnotherapy thing as I'm fairly negative and anxious about the whole thing. I am struggling to switch off too.

Zita West do a £10 one you can download. I've bought a cheaper one from the App Store which is just a couple of quid.

It's quite calming and it helps you to look forward but I do still have this voice in my head saying "no it won't". Hopefully I can switch that off.

Or there are free ones on YouTube. I found this one quite good:

Thanks allium, that's a good idea I will give it a go.

Allium and bear, I think it was you talking about long period/spotting after period? Do you or your accuuunturists have any idea what causes this or how it affects fertility. I've Google it yo death but can only really find info on spotting in lp due to low progesterone - don't think this can be the cause pre ov as progesterone should be low at this point. Any ideas?

jinglebellmel · 01/08/2016 12:19

That should be acupuncturists sorry!

Allium40 · 01/08/2016 12:25

No they didn't explain what the cause of long periods/spotting is. Mine didn't mention spotting but just said 6 days AF was too long. I used to be 3-4 days and light but this month I was 5 days and heavier. No idea why. I am taking iron so perhaps the lining is thicker. They also asked whether there was any clots.

thatsnotmybear · 01/08/2016 18:35

Ha ha Mel, I may well be calling my acu'ist that if it fails to work or costs me any more money!!

Am seeing her tomorrow so will ask what the spotting/lengthy AF means for fertility, if anything. She just implied that it was something that could be tweaked & improved upon. Medically I think there is a wide range of 'normal' in terms of AF length so I don't know that it affects fertility unless you are spotting or bleeding throughout the month or have irregular cycles, but I do find it annoying to still be spotting on CD8 or so, especially when my last cycle was only 24 days long!

thatsnotmybear · 01/08/2016 18:41

On a different note I've been getting my knickers in a twist about not having had a positive opk or peak on the monitor yet! I'm on CD11, had EWCM yesterday and my cervix is very high, tilted & soft. Have only started temping this month but had a big drop this morning - which could mean something or nothing? Opk's were inconclusive last month too. Could it be just my luck that I'm not ov'ing after the mc?

jinglebellmel · 01/08/2016 19:21

Haha, thanks bear. It could be that you're missing the surge, did you get near to positive last month? Also are you doing them mid afternoon time as apparently that's best to catch it. I only had a 1 day surge last month if I'd tested at the wrong time I'd have missed it. If you have cheapies I'd test a few times a day around the time you'd expect it.

Hopefully the temping will reassure you it's happening.

The month of miscarrige when is counted as cd1? I started spotting on 5th July ( which is when scan confirmed the baby was not viable) but heaviest bleeding was 9th July and passed the sac on 11th July.

Allium40 · 01/08/2016 20:25

I had a temp drop today too and read that this is normal pre-ov. I didn't get a positive today either but am expecting one tomorrow and/or weds.

I did read about someone else not getting any positives on I think it was the CBFM. Which ones are you trying Bear?

You're getting all the other signs so I would definitely presume this is fertile time.

O/T, the Conceive Plus arrived and it's the tiniest tube ever!!

jinglebellmel · 01/08/2016 21:41

Mcbaby, I counted cd1 as the day I passed sac etc x

OP posts:
thatsnotmybear · 01/08/2016 21:44

Thanks ladies, I really hope I am just missing it, or I get a positive tomorrow or the next day. I'm using the CBFM and didn't get a peak last cycle either (but this can be fairly standard for the first few cycles with the monitor as it's getting to know you). Also using Superdrug opk's but might order some IC's too.

Is the Conceive Plus for one-time use Allium?! The gels are generally very expensive for what you get.

Mcbaby I think CD1 would be the first day of proper bleeding, so whichever day it went from spotting to full bleeding.

Allium40 · 01/08/2016 22:23

If you look at the thread called something like "AF due 20th July...." someone is talking about getting false positives on CBFM.

There must be something about these monitors.

I think the Conceive Plus is supposed to last a few goes. I was expecting the size of a toothpaste tube but it's more like an eye cream tube!

Lizziedoll · 02/08/2016 10:41

Hi everyone, my name is Lizzie I was 6+2 pg (first pg) and had a miscarriage 10 days ago. I only bled for a week and we are now TTC again. I really don't know what to expect in terms of ovulation. I started testing again this morning, it had two strong lines but not second line not as strong as test line so negative. However I'm thinking I could be near ovulation or just passed it although it seems very soon after mc?! I read a few posts on here and it seems opk aren't reliable after mc because of hormones being all over the place? I feel incredibly depressed after this horrible experience and it's affected my relationship too and I feel only getting pg again will make me feel ok again. Any info or support greatly appreciated

Allium40 · 02/08/2016 11:18

Hi Lizzie, I got a pos opk days after MC but then had another pos a week later. We ttc that month but my head and heart weren't ready. It's worth trying though.

It is so hard, I know what you're going through. I'm 3 months on and finally starting to feel better but I think about it every day and am still devastated.

Are you temping as well?

Keep testing and see what you get tomorrow?

Have you had a neg hpt yet?

Lizziedoll · 02/08/2016 11:22

allium I haven't tested hcg yet but will do today I think. I'm not temping. I also feel devastated and my heart isn't really into it either. We are not actively trying, but dtd every 2-3 days and not using contraception. I'm sorry about your loss, do you have any children? I don't and this was my first pregnancy Sad

thatsnotmybear · 02/08/2016 12:33

Hi Lizzie, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's completely normal to be feeling depressed, your mc was very recent and it's devastating when it happens to you x

Allium40 · 02/08/2016 13:17

I have 2 DD but am 40 so hope I can still conceive.

It's heartbreaking and so many go through it.

Have faith that it will happen for you.

I have found hypnotherapy is helping. You can get free fertility hypnotherapy on YouTube.

Bear, I didn't get my opk pos as expected today. I'm going to try again later. Did you get yours?

thatsnotmybear · 02/08/2016 16:15

Unfortunately not Allium. And another slight temp dip this morning too. I will keep doing the opk's and temping but I think there is a very real possibility that I'm not ov'ing after the mc and my body still needs a bit more time to sort itself out. I met with a friend today and she told me that she didn't ov for 3 or 4 months after her mc (but then got pg the first month she did finally ov). To be honest I'm struggling to DTD this month anyway, just not really in the mood and it definitely feels like more of a chore for us than it should!

Allium40 · 02/08/2016 16:47

It wouldn't hurt to have a month off I guess. See what the temping and the ICs show.

A temp dip is a good sign. How long have you been charting? Can you post your chart on here?

Have you been getting any other symptoms like EWCM?

You've got me thinking that perhaps I'm not ov'ing either. My boobs are very droopy since the MC - not how they used to be!

thatsnotmybear · 02/08/2016 17:18

I've only just started temping this cycle so not much to show yet! I've had EWCM for the past couple of days and also my cervix is really high and tilted back like it should be during FW. Just no positive opk!

Do your charts show ov?

Allium40 · 02/08/2016 17:37

I'll post some on here later. Just in terms of temp rise they do I guess. I only get clear EWCM for 1 day... I don't know how to check my cervix and I'm a bit squeamish about it!

jinglebellmel · 02/08/2016 18:13

Sorry for your loss Lizzie, I felt (and still do really) that only getting pregnant could make me feel better. Nearly 3 months on and it's still very rough but the feelings are becoming manageable, more good days than bad. I think for ,last people opks aren't too reliable straight after, but that doesn't mean to say you won't ov. I'd do a hpt test, if that's negative then there's more chance your opks are accurate so it might help you to know where you stand.

Bear, sorry you've not got a positive yet, must be very disheartening to think you might not be oving :( which day are you on now? I'd definitely recomend getting some Internet cheapies, you can see the line getting darker (or not) and it might give you an idea if you're just missing the surge or if it's not happening at all.

allium, you're getting a temp shift though aren't you? I googled this myself last month and if you are getting a sustained temp shift of 5+ days it's almost definite that you are oving.
