Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Hi Blossom, sorry crossed posts. I had a kind of withdrawal bleed 4 weeks after my mc & mistook is for AF.

Proper AF arrived 2 weeks later.

thatsnotmybear · 20/07/2016 12:36

*it

I didn't have my hcg levels taken or monitored though.

seems quite high for the day of Af allium? How much did it drop by compared to yesterday?

Blossom, I was still getting positive tests so had a blood test - I think it was 22. Had a scan 2 days later to check for retained product and that showed I had ov'd or at least tried to as I'd developed a cyst on my ovary which hadn't been there during the miscarriage. So I'm not sure what my levels would have been, but I guess high 20's.

Bear, that sounds promising, fingers crossed! I'm not feeling anything other than a bit of cramping every now and then (but I had more of it last month and no bfp so I don't think it means anything)

Mel - it's really strange. I took my temp differently this morning as I got up for a wee, was planning to go back to sleep but then realised it was quite late. So then took temp, it was 36.66. Yesterday it was 36.96 so a significant drop. And it should have been higher because I'd got up right?

Then it was so hot an hour or so later.

Really strange, I do feel very hot on waking, weirdly enough.

But I definitely feel AF is imminent.

Obsessed with temping!

jinglebellmel · 20/07/2016 14:32

did you take it at the usual time? If it was earlier than usual then I think that can make it lower than normal? How many dpo are you, could it be an implantation dip??

I know what you mean, I'm just sat here obsessively looking at my chart every two minutes, it's not healthy!

OP posts:
Allium40 · 20/07/2016 15:16

I took it slightly later than usual and I'd been walking around for a few mins. So it should have been higher, not lower.

I think 11/12dpo is too late for implantation and I'm not getting any symptoms but feel premenstrual. I'm expecting AF tomorrow.

Last month I got a dip on the day AF arrived but had a 28 day cycle.

It's shit isn't Allium, I hope you're not feeling too down.

That sounds promising then Blossom :) no way I could have been bothered dtd last night though, you are dedicated! I got Af on day 27 (counting the day I passed everything from miscarriage as day 1) that was 5 days after my blood test showed hcg as 21 and I don't think it was back to zero when Af started. The gynaecologist I saw said that it is progesterone that stops you oving and having Af during pregnancy, not hcg, so it's possible for you cycle to return before hcg is zero. That was when I would normally expect Af, so I suspect I ov'd at around the normal time too.

My pregnancy tests arrived an showing a very strong positive 2.5 weeks after miscarriage does that sound normal to you all? And might indicate why I have had so many positive opks.

My scan last Friday showed very thin uterine lining and that uterus was clear?

thatsnotmybear · 21/07/2016 13:17

My pg tests were still very strong positives 2.5 weeks after my mc. They became faint after 3 weeks or so and finally negative at 4 weeks, so I would say it's normal. I imagine it will vary depending on how far along you were and how far things had actually progressed.

I really can't be sure that I ov'd after my mc although I think most women do, as some fall pg before the first AF arrives.

I'm no expert but I think the results of your scan are good, i.e. no retained tissue. Did you mc naturally?

McBaby · 21/07/2016 13:21

I miscarried naturally the baby hadn't grown passed 4 weeks but I started bleeding at what would have been 10 weeks. I had very few pregnancy symptoms over the last few weeks of pregnancy compared to the pregnancies with my two girls.

Hi mcbaby, I tried to post earlier but it seems to have vanished. I was very similar - medical mc at 11 weeks, but just a sac and placenta, no baby so they said it hadn't made it past 4 weeks. I didn't get a totally negative test until after Af, so about 4.5 weeks after (that was using a 15iui) how sensetive are your tests?

So my chart was looking lovely, ff said it was triphasic and then I woke in the night to be violently sick! Looks like my high temps might just have been down to a stomach bug brewing!

I did wonder initially, but then my husband started throwing up and blew my excitement!

Allium40 · 21/07/2016 20:02

What is triphasic? Extra high temps at the end? x

jinglebellmel · 21/07/2016 20:07

Yeah, so you'd get a second temperature shift about half way through your lp, it's by no means a guarantee of anything (especially not if it's caused by a sickness bug!). How are you Allium, any sign of Af?

Not yet Mel but due tomorrow x

thatsnotmybear · 22/07/2016 07:57

I'm out. AF has arrived 2 days early. I knew it when I woke up yesterday feeling low & tearful (which is the PMS I get just before AF). So the rhinitis is just a sodding cold!

I was so hopeful I'd get pg again straight away. Feeling properly sorry for myself this morning!

Allium40 · 22/07/2016 08:04

Oh Bear, so sorry. It is shit. I do feel the worst when I have AF but then feel better when ov time approaches. That's one good thing about having a short cycle!

Look after yourself today and treat yourself in some way. Or go for a long walk.

x
