Positive opk after a miscarriage

jinglebellmel · 19/05/2016 20:28

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Hii! Just to shread some light to your story, i had a m/c last month, and i was ovulating within 9days, im now currently waiting for AF to show up( hope she doesnt) but you can ovulate straight away after having a m/c xxx

thatsnotmybear · 18/07/2016 08:06

Hi Mummynay, sorry for your loss. There are a few of us here hoping that AF doesn't arrive, you're welcome to keep us company!

thatsnotmybear · 18/07/2016 08:16

Hi all, I went away for the weekend so am just catching up. I should really start temping as I'd like to know for certain that I'm ovulating. I already have a decent thermometer but it beeps as it's taking a reading & I think that would drive my DH nuts as I tend to wake early.

I don't think this is my month; AF is due Sunday & I'm entirely pg symptom free Angry

How is everyone else doing?

Allium40 · 18/07/2016 09:18

Hi Bear - hope you had a nice weekend away, great weather!

Yes my thermometer beeps at 06:30 every morning - my OH is normally sleeping with DD1 by this time while I sleep with DD2!

I'm not feeling good about this month. I'm feeling quite depressed and negative which is no doubt a sign that AF is coming. I told OH I hated him yesterday!

I keep thinking about where I would be now if I hadn't lost the baby and I'm so worried about my age.

I think if you're due on Sunday, you wouldn't have any symptoms now anyway. See how you're feeling on Fri/Sat.

It's such a rollercoaster.

x

Bee1234 · 18/07/2016 09:44

hello everyone,

Firstly I'm sorry mummynay for your loss! I hope AF stays away for you!

Bear being symptom free doesn't mean anything so don't lose hope yet! I didn't really feel anything until a couple of days before I tested and even said the same thing!

Also Allium, being emotional doesn't mean AF is necessarily on her way! I'm sorry that you're feeling crappy. It's so hard to stay positive but think of all the people that have gotten results so why can't that be you! I know you think age puts a dampener on it but there's so much these days to help and you really are putting everything into it! You deserve this and it will happen.

Mel I hope you're doing ok.

thatsnotmybear · 18/07/2016 14:27

Thanks both, had a nice weekend away in the sunshine to take my mind off things! And you're right, it isn't over until AF arrives.

Allium it's hard to let go of a previous pg & fully accept it's no longer happening. I have a close friend who's due around the same time & her scan updates & growing bump are not easy for me to deal with. Having a mc gives you a horrible anxious feeling of time wasted and being left behind. I'm also worried about my age but it's not time to panic yet, we're going to get there x

Allium40 · 18/07/2016 15:51

Thanks Bear, I hope you're right.

I saw a Chinese doctor today because I was worried about my high temps.

He's put me on a herbal medicine/tea for a week. He said my blood is too hot, I'm stressed and my intestines are not right. He doubts I'll conceive like this.

I feel better already and (psychosomatic perhaps) but I feel that the tea/medicine chills me out.

We'll see!

jinglebellmel · 18/07/2016 19:46

Sorry you're feeling negative Allium, hopefully the tea will have the desired effect for you.

Totally with you Allium and Bear about thinking where you'd be in the pregnancy. I have a friend due the week I would have been and a friend due the week after. She has her 20 week scan tomorrow and I feel left behind/overtaken, it's horrible!

Bee, hope all is going well?

Mummynay sorry for your loss, good luck for this month.

I'm 6dpo no symptoms either, but then I had plenty last month and no pregnancy so not putting too much importance on that! Think we are due Af around the same time Bear.

I know you are all a couple of months ahead of me but can I join. I lost my baby 2 weeks ago I started bleeding the baby should have been 10 weeks old but had not grown past 4 weeks.

Scan on Friday showed no issues and waiting for pregnancy tests in the post so I can check they are showing nothing.

For the past 3 days I have had positive okps and I just don't know if I should trust them or not!

Bee1234 · 18/07/2016 22:17

Sorry for your loss Mcbaby, we all know how hard it is :-(

I also got positive OPKS 2 weeks after mine. I suppose it's hard to tell whether to trust them or not but there's nothing to say that you're not ovulating. If when you get your pg tests, they are negative, this will be a good indicator that the OPKS are correct.

McBaby · 19/07/2016 07:21

Thank you for replying Bee1234 I think I just need to try and relax and let my body get on with what it needs to do! hopefully pg tests arrive soon!

jinglebellmel · 19/07/2016 11:56

Sorry for your loss mc baby :( I was similar, 11 weeks but the baby never developed, hope you're doing okay. As for the opks I got positives right through the first cycle so I don't think you can rely on them unfortunately. Although I had a scan 4 weeks post miscarriage and I had ov'd (even though still getting positive pregnancy tezts) so there's nothing to say you won't ov, just might be hard to tell when based on an opk this month.

I am doing ok it seems very surreal but I think that is due to having miscarried while on holiday in France - the hospital was great but they spoke little English and I do t have great medical French. We were at Disneyland for the most of it which was bizzare!

So now we are back home it's like back to reality and dealing with moving on. I have two little girls already so at least I can focus on them.

I have pcos so chances are opk Sky not ge that reliable I only have them as I saw my friend on Saturday who also told me she is 10 weeks pregnant passed them on to me!

Allium40 · 19/07/2016 12:53

So sorry for your loss McBaby. It's such a hard thing to go through and hard to imagine how painful it is, until you go through it.

I hope you recover and conceive again soon.

How old are your girls? I have 2 girls too :-)

I screamed at them this morning, I'm not up to my usual parenting standards lately but we're only human I guess x

thatsnotmybear · 19/07/2016 13:03

Hi Mcbaby, I'm sorry for your loss and that it happened while you were on holiday, not a nice experience at all. I had a mmc at around 8 weeks (heartbeat seen at 7wks but was sadly too slow to be viable and had stopped before our next scan). I have no idea whether I ov'd after my mc as opk's gave me very confusing results, but I had surgery and was advised to refrain from DTD for 2 weeks afterwards anyway. It's frustrating because you want to know what's going on, but as you say it's just a case of waiting for your body to sort itself out (which it will!) I found moving on from the mc became easier once the pg hormones had left my system.

McBaby · 19/07/2016 15:22

Allium my two girls are nearly 4 and just turned 2.

The girls are being great at the moment and had to be in the hospital through the whole thing so know mummy had a sore tummy and was bleeding a lot!

jinglebellmel · 20/07/2016 07:34

How's everyone getting on, what days are you all on now? I'm 8dpo, no symptoms, super high temps (although I suspect the weather may have something to do with that!)

Allium40 · 20/07/2016 08:51

Hi Mel,

Sounds promising for you, fingers crossed!

I'm expecting AF today, my bbt dropped this morning and I've been super emotional and crampy. Not quite sure what happened to my cycle this month, it's been really short!

I've been reading It Starts With The Egg and I'm not expecting anything to happen until at least the autumn as it takes 3 months for eggs to mature and I only started taking supplements this month.

Plus it's going to take some time to get my temps down and increase fertility.

Good luck for the rest of you this month!

x

jinglebellmel · 20/07/2016 09:44

Sorry to hear that Allium, it's always disappointing even if you're expecting it. Good that you have a plan though and hopefully in a few months things will be looking better.

I think my temps are probably just down to the heatwave to be honest, not expecting much this month either, but also thinking in a few months things might be more hopeful once all the supplements I've been feeding me and dh kick in!

Allium40 · 20/07/2016 09:44

If I do get AF today then I may well have ov'd 2 weeks ago when I had that panic. Which would have been very early but perhaps caused by my high temps.

If anyone is at home, can you tell me what your BBT is right now (or when you read this)? I'm on 37.49.

jinglebellmel · 20/07/2016 10:48

Yes I'm at home will do it now

jinglebellmel · 20/07/2016 10:50

How early was it, which day? I'm 37.31 x

OP posts:
Allium40 · 20/07/2016 11:17

That was today. At the time I messaged. Given my temp this morning was 36.66 (although I had got up by this point).

Sorry it seems like AF is on the way Allium.

I'm not sure when I ov'd this month but I think I should be about 8DPO or 9DPO. I woke up this morning feeling congested and am sneezing a lot. Am desperately trying not to read too much into it but my earliest symptom last time was rhinitis of pregnancy which basically meant I was congested and sneezing a lot. Trying to tell myself it's probably just pollen in this weather, although I don't suffer from hayfever. Nothing else apart from a few weird twinges near my ovaries. So, it could be something or most probably nothing!
