Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

I couldn't see the pic Mumofmany

Bee1234 · 06/07/2016 19:12

I wasn't able to see a picture either?

thatsnotmybear · 06/07/2016 19:38

I've read that the Clearblue digi's are not as sensitive, maybe try testing again with FMU on a FRER or Superdrug early test?

jinglebellmel · 06/07/2016 20:28

Thanks Allium, that's interesting, I'd not managed to find anything which suggested anything chemical/hormonal happened until implantation so had dismissed it, but maybe we can feel something happening after all?! And thanks for the positivity too,I'm just being a drama queen today! I've been lucky enough to conceive either without trying or on the first month previously (I hope that doesn't sound insensitive to anyone, I realise now how lucky I was) so despite knowing the stats I think subconsciously I thought it would happen right away again. Also just found out that another friend from my baby group from our first babies is pregnant, so I'm just having a negative day today, tomorrow will be better!

Control freak here too - it makes me feel better to know in precise detail what my body is up to!

I'm feeling pretty negative tonight too and am thinking for me, it's all down to egg quality and I may get a few viable eggs per year if I'm lucky.

jinglebellmel · 06/07/2016 21:43

:( I'm sorry you're feeling negative Allium. I've read a lot which says egg quality can be improved in 3 months, and the article you linked to a few days ago had some positive stats for over 40 year olds. It's impossible to stay positive all the time though I know.

If you've been feeling something going on, cramps etc, then it could be your eggs are pretty good already and just didn't implant this time (as you say it's 1 in 4 chance so that doesn't neccesarily indicate a problem). You're having accupunture too aren't you? I read a study on Ivf patients and it said that it massively increased their rate of conception.

I'm sorry that you're both feeling a bit negative.. Some days it's really hard to pick ourselves up when we hit that negative slump. Totally understandable after what we've just been through. Hopefully as the weekend approaches you'll both be feeling a bit better. I found this article which is really interesting.. It might pick you up a bit and has some really positive points in it..

I hope this helps just even a little bit...

Allium40 · 07/07/2016 13:15

Thanks Bee for your words of wisdom and the article too. I like to read things like that :-)

Just started my opks today and got a positive on day 9! I used to ov on day 10 so perhaps my cycle is returning to what it used to be. Going to be dtd tonight but hope my cycle hasn't gone up the wall.

See photo - positive or near positive?

Oooh how exciting Allium! I'd say that was a definite positive. How long was your cycle before? Nice that you don't have to wait very long after AF!

Bee1234 · 07/07/2016 13:49

Ah great news Allium 😊 Looks like a definite positive to me! Excellent that your cycle is almost the same as before. Good luck and enjoy!

Allium40 · 07/07/2016 13:52

Last cycle was 29 days and I had opk positives on days 14 and 15 and the temp rise on day 17.

But I used to have a 26 day cycle - last time we conceived on day 10.

thatsnotmybear · 07/07/2016 15:14

Sounds like your cycle is reverting back to what it used to be. My cycle was 27 days but I didn't tend to get a positive opk until CD13. I'm a bit envious of yours, ha ha!

thatsnotmybear · 07/07/2016 18:22

Allium re: your other thread asking about acupuncture. I've got my first session on Saturday morning. The acupuncturist asked me to set aside 2 hours for it. I think this session will be mostly Q&A regarding my cycle, etc, so I can ask her your Q's if you like?

Allium40 · 07/07/2016 18:41

Thanks Bear, that would be great.

I found online that the key times are.

  • During the follicular phase - day 5, 6, 7 or 8 of your menstrual cycle (day 1 being the first day of heavy flow)
  • The day before, day of or day after ovulation (as indicated by your LH surge)
  • During implantation time (6 - 10 days after ovulation).

I actually emailed my acupuncturist who I saw last year when I wasn't even properly trying (d'oh) and she said to come and see her around day 7 but unfortunately she's on holiday then for 2 weeks.

It sounds like you're acu'ist is very thorough. Good luck and let me know how you get on. What day will you be on?

Something I would also be interested in finding out is if it's best to start at the beginning of a new cycle rather than having a one-off treatment for implantation for example - do they have to treat each point in the cycle or are there any points which are more important than others?

Thank you

Bee1234 · 08/07/2016 09:01

Ah good luck with the acupuncture Bear 😊 Can't wait to hear all about it! If it goes well and you recommend it I'm definitely going to try it next month.

I'm currently 7dpo ( going by positive OPK ) and so far I'm symptom free. Annoying. It might just be too early but i feel like last time I just knew and I'm not feeling that this time!

Allium40 · 08/07/2016 09:24

I reckon 7dpo is too early for symptoms as implantation probably won't have happened yet. And most people don't notice implantation anyway. It's only when the HCG kicks in that the symptoms start - and they start pretty gradually too.

How early did you know last time?

Bear/Mel - are you gearing up for ov? Any lines yet?

Anyone else?

I'm going to test again this morning but terrified I've already ov'd as had a slight temp rise this morning. Hoping to get another positive today.

Bee1234 · 08/07/2016 09:48

Hmm well I hope so! Last time I tested 13 days after my positive OPK and got My BFP. I think by about 10dpo I was having sore boobs / tiredness / lightheaded / and thought to myself yep this is it! Anyway let's see after the Wkend, I do agree it's probably too early and I may not have even ovulated until late Saturday! Next cycle I'm going to start temping so i have a better indication.

Ahh good luck with the OPK! Hopefully you caught the beginning of ur surge and not the end!

thatsnotmybear · 08/07/2016 10:03

Mel you were right, I have to wait 3 months after mc to have a smear. Was sent home from my appointment this morning. Disappointed as I really wanted to get it out of the way and also as there's no follow-up or check-up after SMM, I kind of wanted the nurse to tell me that my cervix had healed and all was looking ok? Feeling a bit flat now.

Allium40 · 08/07/2016 10:04

Hang on in there Bee - see how you're feeling next week.

Argh, I think my cycle is a day later than I thought. So I'm now on day 11 - I thought I was on day 10.

Did another test - there's a strong line but not sure if it's positive. What do you think?

Also, what you think of my temps - do you think I've post-ov already. I did wake up today with tingly boobs.

Panicking as we only dtd Sun and Thurs!

I forgot to say, I did get cramps on Weds (cd9) but I dismissed it as dehydration/back ache. I thought I was on cd8 so didn't think it could be ov.

Bee1234 · 08/07/2016 10:36

Hmm the rise in temp does suggest that maybe ov has occurred? But if this is the case at least you got BD in yday? However the OPK does look positive still.. usually I compare darkness from previous test. I can't tell from the picture! For me with this cycle, I took another test the day after my strong positive and got a much fainter line.. So it could suggest you're still surging and haven't OV'd!

If I were you I would hope for the best and get in another BD or 2 when you can!

Bee1234 · 08/07/2016 10:54

Bear im sorry your appointment didn't go to plan :(

Remember that our bodies are very resilient and the cervix heals much more quickly than we would think or expect. It's annoying they don't offer follow up appts isn't it! I suppose they believe we don't need it.

Allium40 · 08/07/2016 11:19

Sorry Bear :-(

Hopefully you'll be pregnant by the time you need your smear and then you can have one next year :-)

Allium40 · 08/07/2016 11:26

I'll do another test this arvo and see what my temp is tomorrow.

I'm such an idiot. I put the start of my period as spotting in FF instead of light so now I've changed that, I'm 1 day on.

And according to SMEP, we should have dtd Tues and we didn't as I was hoping to up the sperm as wasn't expecting to ov until the weekend. I'm so annoyed at myself! I should have done an opk on Weds when I had the cramps but I presumed it was something else. Arggghhh!
