Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

That's only one day missed Allium, not the end of the world! I know it must be frustrating but don't give up just yet! Carry on with spem and fingers crossed you haven't missed out this time! It says the middle day of the 3 days in a row ( day after positive OPK ) is most important so try and focus on that!

thatsnotmybear · 08/07/2016 12:15

Thanks ladies. Not sure why but I found it a bit triggering - perhaps because the nurse referred to me as being post-pregnancy, whereas in my head I think of myself as being post-mc or post-surgery, and just hearing the words "recently pregnant" made me feel sad all over again! That's not to suggest she was anything but kind & sympathetic though, she was very understanding & apologised for not being able to do it!

I'm currently CD11, still no positive opk but from experience CD11, CD12 & CD13 are days when I should be DTD, even though I don't usually get a positive opk until CD14.

Allium you still DTD in your window so there's every chance! And opk still looks positive enough to keep trying.

Bee I didn't have any symptoms in the 2ww after I conceived my DS. I only did a test because AF was 3 days late and the BFP was a complete surprise.

jinglebellmel · 08/07/2016 14:55

Wow I pave missed loads!

Aww sorry bear, sometimes it's just the little things that trigger it, I hope you're okay. I'd really like to get mine over and done with too but still 4 weeks to wait.

Allium, if that positive was yesterday then I'd have thought you'd ov today? I think it's normally 12-48 hours later so hopefully you've not missed it. Have you dtd at all this week? I'm not sure which day I'm on either as I had spotting before, not sure if that would be day 1 or not, think I'll test every day just incase!

Bee, I wouldn't worry about being symptom free, I don't think there is much evidence that early symptoms are actually pregnancy rather that progesterone or pre Af, until you've git a bit of hcg in your system anyway. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks both for the reassurance :) that's made me feel better!

Allium40 · 08/07/2016 15:27

Yes I would have guessed today but I normally feel it. Last cycle I got the ov pains on the second day of opk positive. So no idea what's going on unless I ov'd on day 9 and was still surging on day 10?

jinglebellmel · 08/07/2016 15:33

Hopefully you've got some swimmers in there in time anyway, fingers crossed for you.

I passed a small clot yesterday, not even half the size of the one that was supposedly left but maybe it had broken down a little? I never gave clots during Af, even tiny ones so it was a bit odd. I'd been spotting on and off again since Af finished and so far nothing since I passed the clot. I'm tentatively hopefully this maybe the end of random spotting (although I know better than to get my hopes up these days!)

Please ignore all my typos I have a little helper jumping all over me!

Maybe that's what was causing the spotting Mel. I'm sure that must be the end of it. What day are you on?

I just had another clear opk positive so feeling slightly better. Unless it's another 4 day surge like I had on the first cycle! I'm hoping I'll ov tomorrow but who knows!

jinglebellmel · 08/07/2016 17:33

I hope so! I'm on day 8, but I spotted before so could possibly be 9. Normally ov on cd13 so hoping to get back to a normal cycle this time.

That's promising then, if so you'll have caught it just at the right time!

Allium, here's the info I got from my acupuncturist regarding acupuncture for fertility. She explained that the menstrual cycle is divided into 5 phases; menses, pre-ovulation, ovulation, post-ovulation & pre-menses. Although you might want to focus on having treatment during the pre-ovulation & ovulation phases, the practitioner would prefer to treat throughout the whole cycle, as there could be an issue during another phase that needs addressing (during menses if you have heavy painful periods for example, or post-ovulation if you're concerned about implantation). So treatment is suggested once a week to begin with, until there's a clearer picture of your cycle and where your concerns are.

Allium40 · 09/07/2016 16:53

Thanks Bear.

So starting at the beginning of the cycle, how many weekly treatments would someone need? Until you either fall pg or run out of money? ;-)

jinglebellmel · 09/07/2016 17:49

Bear, how much does a session cost out of interest?

OP posts:
thatsnotmybear · 09/07/2016 18:35

Ha! Quite. She didn't recommend having a particular number of sessions but I think I'll have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6. Really depends on whether I feel it's having any benefit. Definitely couldn't afford it on an ongoing basis! £55 for initial consultation then £45 thereafter.

I know, I saw an acu'ist last year and had a bit of a shock when she said it was weekly. I did 2 or 3 sessions then gave up!

jinglebellmel · 09/07/2016 20:51

Sounds really interesting, and there's someone near to me who is very sought after apparently. I really couldn't afford it as an ongoing thing though, might just keep trying for a few months first! I hope you have some luck with it bear.

Bee1234 · 10/07/2016 11:18

It really does sound interesting! I hope you get great results from it Bear! It's definitely something I will consider for the future if I try for a few months without success! But yes agree that it's a hefty price tag for a weekly thing. As a one off though I'm sure will be worth it.

8dpo for me and dying to know if anything is happening! I wonder when I could test?

Allium40 · 10/07/2016 13:08

The waiting is hard isn't it Bear? On each of my 3 pregnancies, I managed to wait until AF was late, by which time I knew. When is the earliest you can test?

I think I ov'd Fri/Sat as I had cramps Fri evening. I got a decent temp rise today at 6am, went back to sleep and had an even higher temp. I've used the first on FF.

It was DD's 5th birthday party yesterday. It was so stressful and I was super grumpy!

Bee1234 · 10/07/2016 13:33

Wow that is really disciplined! How did you manage it?! I wish I had it in me to wait! I tested a couple of days before my period was due last time.. 13 dpo. Il see how I get on this week! I've bought 2 clear blue today and have quite a few Internet cheapies as well. Ahhhh too much temptation!

Good news about the temp rise! Looks like you def ovulated then 😊

Aww no way, I'm sure throwing parties is stressful for any parent! Hope DD enjoyed it!

Allium40 · 10/07/2016 14:05

Well, the 2nd pg (although planned) was a bit of a headf**k as DD1 had just turned 1.

3rd pg was unplanned.

1st pg was planned and I was like a woman possessed (like now) but didn't know I could test until AF was late (it was in 2009) so maybe the early tests weren't so well-known back then.

How have you been passing the 2ww, any tips?

Bee1234 · 10/07/2016 14:48

gosh so close together! How lovely though!

Yes early testing has definitely become more available in recent years! I kind of wish it wasn't.. Because like u, I am also a woman possessed! Doh!

Well the beginning of the week I was away so that went pretty quickly, and then when I got back I just carried on with the gym to busy myself! Wkends are easier because OH is home and we are usually out but it's still in the back of my mind constantly. So I guess the answer to your question is no, I don't have any useful tips! Haha.

Allium40 · 10/07/2016 15:26

Are you ttc#1 Bee?

Bear are you ttc#3?

I was running from when I got AF, think I'll just do brisk walks and cycling for the TWW.

Am gonna eat Brazil nuts and pineapple. Any other tips? x

Bee1234 · 10/07/2016 16:21

Yes number one for me :) first pregnancy and fortunately first try! Shame it didn't end well.

Ive been eating as clean as possible in the 2ww without going OTT. Lots of fruit and nuts.. What does pineapple help with?

Is it true we are meant to give up running in the 2ww? I did read somewhere others had done so! I haven't ran in a while anyway.

I hope it passes reasonably quickly for u! I'm going to hang on until Wednesday and then try one of the Internet cheapies!

jinglebellmel · 10/07/2016 17:32

Not too long to wait then bee! I got a bfp about 12dpo with this recent pregnancy and 13 days with my son. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.
